I'm so sickeningly busy it's not even funny! I'm so busy I shouldn't even be posting this journal! Bad Jackie, bad!

But I'm just gonna take a sec now to give everyone a heads up since I won't be around much for the next ooohhhh 7-8 days.

Thanks to the wonderful Mark Smylie and Nick Tapalansky (~TheHumungusStudio), I now have some FANTABULOUS scans of my older work as well as my more recent stuff. I'll be slowly replacing the old images with the newer ones, so look out for that.

Baltimore Comic Con (my FAVORITE show of the season!) is this weekend!!! I'll be in the AA in the 'awesome' section with the following skilled artists and creators:




Umm I'm not sure what table I am, cuz I suck at life, but Nick (~TheHumungusStudio)and Alex (~TheABones) are table 60, and I'm right next to them, which makes me and Kate (~Beeftree) table 59 or 61. That's enough info, right? lol
I'll be selling prints (INCLUDING my sweet new stuff) and taking commissions all weekend.

Hey everyone--

So this Friday through Sunday (Sept. 25-27)I'll be at the Javits Center in NYC for New York Anime Fest. I'm at AA32 in the Alley, which is on the 1st floor.

I wish I could be more excited, but school and life in general have kept me...busy. Almost too busy. Busy to the point of me thinking 'How bad would it be to just skip this damn show?' Please help me be more optimistic by stopping by and saying hi/buying a print/getting a commission. The hi is free, the rest will be available as usual.

I think I'm getting too old for these anime cons lol- hope I'm not turning into a grumpy old bat! XD I promise I'll be nice at the show, though, so don't be scared!

So school and work starts up again for me tomorrow. -_-
I've done a buttload (yes, a buttload) of new pieces which will hopefully be scanned soon. I miss my scanner ;_;...But please be patient, I promise I'll have them up soon!! Failing that, all I do in class is doodle, so maybe something epic will emerge from that! XD

This summer was great, I'm sad to see it go...but I suppose the year will continue whether I want it to or not, right? Besides, I'm not out of con season yet, so there's still fun stuff to do! Thankfully, I somehow got the Mondays after NYAF and BCC off from school! Whew, that was lucky.

So, the book is out - now what? Now, oh loyal readers, we need to keep the momentum going. Reviews and interviews are abound but now we need to show comic shops that there's good reason for them to carry the book in their stores! Below is an open letter to comic retailers which I emailed out to all the shop contacts I could gather online. What we need YOU to do is repost this on blogs and message boards, Twitter a link, send up a smoke signal - get this info to your local shop to help them sell the book. That doesn't mean you should go in and ask for ten copies of the book to be ordered, that's not what this is about. This is about spreading the word about the book and giving retailers the ammunition they need to confidently recommend and sell the book to their customers.

Hello, purveyor of four-color greatness!

My name is Nick Tapalansky and I'm the writer of the recent Archaia release, Awakening (Volume One). Selling comics is a tough business, and nobody knows that as well as you guys. That said, you do it day in and day out and, one better, you do it well. If I can appeal to your generous side for just a minute, I’m hoping you’ll read on and find your free PDF of the 144-page volume, a trailer for the book, and more. I’m putting in some legwork, trying to spread the word about the book’s release (the hardcover was released in July of this year), and let you know how the team behind the book, as well as Archaia, is working to promote the book and push readers into your stores. First though, a little background.

When the first three chapters of Awakening were serialized back in 2007 the series was nominated for four British Eagle Awards including Favourite Newcomer Writer and Favourite New Comic Book. We’ve also received tons of critical praise, including:

After Archaia underwent a publishing hiatus for most of 2008, we quietly waited with the book until the business end of things was sorted out. By mid 2009 the machine was moving again and Awakening, now a two-volume hardcover series (more on the format shift in a minute), was ready to make its comeback! The book has since been featured on CBR, in Rue Morgue Magazine, and on various comic news and review sites.

Cynthia Ford, well known as the town crazy, comes forward to speak with retired police detective Derrick Peters one January afternoon. Mmmmmmm fair food....

This was by far the best show I've done and I want to thank everyone who stopped by for a commission and prints- sorry to anyone I had to turn away at the show because I was backed up! I lost my favorite pencil. Yes, this news merits a journal. I loved that pencil. It was my favorite thing...this is the equivalent of one of you digital artist types losing your Wacom pen or something. I'm still searching for it....hopefully I left it at 's apartment. 2- I'm participating in the super exciting AA Card Battling game, Convetional Combat!

Asmadi Games [link] will have a really inexpensive starter pack available at their booth and then participating artists will have their own unique cards available at their tables in the Alley! I wish I could tell you more about the game play, but I'm not too sure on the specifics right now. (Though I do know the battles will be able to be played relatively quickly; you could challenge someone in the hall!) So if you come to my table, you can pick up my super special ultra cool card....CARD NUMBER 1! You know you want the first card.

Ok so, I've tried to not suck so much, and put up a few new pieces for all you lovelies; hope you like

Also, a reminder! I'll be at the Albany Comic Con on Sunday, April 5th. Some of you have already been so kind as to get in touch with me about it, so I just want to confirm that yes, I will be taking on-site commissions- first come, first served- so try to get to me early in the day! I might take a couple of extra commissions if people don't mind being mailed them (at no extra charge for con attendees ONLY) cuz lets face it: Mama needs a wedding dress.

I'm also confirmed for Anime Boston, May 22-24th, where I will once again be taking commissions and selling prints---new ones by then (I promise) and Wizard World Philly, June 19-21st (the week of my birthday! woot!)

Okie dokie, so---on April 5th I'll be at the Albany Comic Con at the Wolf Road Holiday Inn (I'm like, 95% sure of the location, forgive me if I'm wrong!!). I was very graciously invited to go with the two lovely and talented (if not a little demented ) gentlemen with whom I shared space with at NonCon!

Aside from Anime Boston in May, that's the next show you can find me at. Which is good. Because I have way too much school work to do ;_;.

I'm getting pumped for this convention season, and as soon as I get a break from all of the history that is starting to own my life (I guess that's what happens with a major...heh) I'll be working on new prints and pinups!

You know, as much as I complain about all the history books I have to read, I must say it's starting to inspire me. The other day I was thinking about doing a piece with the Dowager Empress of the Qing Dynasty...ehhh turning into a history nerd!!

Anyway, happy March, everyone! I'll have a few new pieces to post this coming weekend (when I have access to my beautiful scanner again), seriously, I will!!! <3

Hey guys! Sorry for the inactivity, school's been keeping me super busy. BUT this weekend I'll be at Non-Con at Vassar College Yessiree, I'll have some prints and I'll be taking commissions all day Saturday and Sunday at the convention! If you're gonna be in the NY Po-town area, please stop by and say hi!

I also have confirmed that I'll be at Wizard World Philly this year, alog with some fantastic artists, who will be named in a later journal I'll be at Anime Boston for sure, too!

I mentioned in my last journal that I would also be doing AnimeNext. Well, I sent in my application on DECEMBER 23rd, and after hearing nothing for over a week, I sent a little e-mail to the address provided on the website. Just checking up.
I recieved a snippy e-mail back telling me I had the wrong e-mail address. Ok. Instead of just forwarding it on for me, they gave me the correct (?) contact info.

This was ALSO the wrong person. This person, however, was much more helpful and forwarded my e-mail to the staff address, so everyone got it. Seems people weren't quite sure who was in charge of the alley. Ummm ok.

So I get an e-mail from the 2nd Vice-Chair of the convention. Well, surely this guy can help me! Or not. Seems that he doesn't really have any idea wht's up either. So he gives me the e-mail address (SIGH) of the person who is, in fact, responsible for Artist Alley. He then tells me to keep him updated of my progress and apologizes. Hm. So I e-mail the person in charge of (I guess?) the alley. This was ohhhhh two,three weeks ago? Ask me if I've gotten a response?

Cuz I haven't.

After a week of hearing nothing, I send the same e-mail again. Maybe it got lost in the shuffle, who knows. Another week. NOTHING. So I send an e-mail to my helpful friend the Vice-Chair letting him know that I've followed his advice and gotten nowhere; anything else I should be doing? Someone else I should be taking to?
This was over a week ago. STILL NOTHING.

Now, I don't know, maybe this is common with anime conventions in particular. I've never done one. Maybe I was spoiled by Baltimore, and its organized, professional, helpful staff. I have no idea what else to do. I didn't realize that you didn't have to do your job if you're convention staff. At this point I'm thinking about not even bothering with it, regardless of whether or not I get into the alley.

Ok, so first; I hope you all had a festive non-denominational holiday season!! I don't know about the rest of you, but I plan on spending New Year's Eve on the couch watching Blu-Ray and eating Chinese food with my fiance, sister and friend. Woot for being in pajamas!!

Second; I'm sitting looking at the finished inks on a new piece and I'm just full of ideas for others. Now that school is done (until the 26th! woot!)I have pleeeeeenty of time to make new stuff. You'll see that soon.

Also, submitted my registration stuff for Artist's Alley at AnimeNext! Oh yes, I'll be there. Once I know all th info, I'll stick it up here. I'm also waiting for the Otakon info for artist's alley to go up, so expect to see more on that as well.
