But Im gonna give it another semester and see if its what I want to do, considering Im almost done w/ my geology major, and Id have to take education classes I don know if I want to take more time to do it

I hope all is well for everyone else and school hasnt made brains into goo just yet, Im excited because its pretty much fall here and its my favorite season, plus Halloween is coming up and its my favorite holiday

well I am off to a geology meeting, cheerio for now!

wow so its been ages since I've updated, so heres the spiel

In 5 days Im taking a two week trip to Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, and its going to be absolutely amazing

I am going with my geology class, we will be stopping in the Badlands, Black Hills, and touring all through Yellowstone, camping and hiking all the while, its gonna be a blast and I'll make sure to get plenty of photos and I know there will be an exciting story or two

Speaking of exciting, be careful riding your bicycle in town, I was hit by a minivan ( Irate soccer mom maybe?) riding my bike across an intersection, she didnt even stop at the stop sign or watch where she was going, but I survived, though my back bike tire didnt, so will have to get a replacement

Im more concerned about my POS car, its on its last leg, so I'm thinking after my trip i will look into getting a new one, which is very exciting as well

I am also interning at Wesselman nature Society, working with their educational committee in designing the new ECO Academy summer camp and projects there, its a lot of fun, and hope I can use it career wise int eh future, considering pursuing Environmental Conservation and possibly being a park naturalist, so we shall see

Anyways hope everyone is enjoying their summer, I'll let you know if someone gets eaten by a bear on the trip XP

So just another update of the goings on

This semester has been a beast, upper level Geology courses are kicking my butt and just tired of school really, but in another month it'll be summer break and can have maybe, possibly some free time.

Im taking a 390 Summer field excursion class to Yellowstone National Park which I am really excited about, its a geologic wonderland and I have always wanted to go there, I will be going with a group of geology students on a 10-11 day trip in Wyoming and have some good times.

I also got an internship over the summer and next fall with the Wesselman Nature Society, Im excited because Ill be helping them develop their environmental education programs for summer camps and fall programs, as well as be trained to handle some of their reptile amphibian exhibits ( too bad I cant be trained to handle their birds of prey because training started in January, maybe next year!) and will eventually lead some nature hikes in the park. Im excited because I think it will be a great opportunity to dive in a possible career field of being a park Naturalist, so we shall see.

I hope this semester is going well for everyone else, I know we've all been busy, but believe me I can not wait for this summer and warmer temps!

Well just to let everyone know that I am not dead I decided to update my journal lol

Ok so no Im not dead but I have been extremely busy this semester. Since im a Junior this year (when did that happen!?) ive been taking a lot of upper level science and math courses which have been keepin me hoppin constantly. I must say I am enjoying most of them, my Advanced Physical Geology class is more of the basic geology stuff just more indepth and we have a few presentations we have to do and 3 field trips, my last one was yesterday at the Wabash river, we took vibracore samples of the sandbar, and will do in lab analysis of the sand deposits this week. Minerology has been kicking my ass we have our first mineral ID exam Wednesday which shall be interesting, however it is an interesting class just a tough one. Paleontology has been a tough one as well, lemme tell ya I never knew there were so many flippin kinds of brachiopods lol but we're learning a lot in the class and doing a lot of labs to get hands on experience with the fossils.

Midterms was also last week its hard to believe we're already half way through the semester and this year is almost gone! its also kinda scary because I need to start looking for graduate schools and really look into what field of Geology I want to master in, ive considered environmental geology, but there are a lot of other prospects out there so we shall see.

Anyways I do hope that everyone is having a good semester and your brains have not turned into a siliceous ooz quite yet hehe, hope you enjoy your fall ( we're finally getting some crisp cool weather) and I shall wish you all a Happy halloween early!

Id encourage everyone if you do have the chance, take a trip and enjoy many of the national parks if you can, you will be amazed at the vastness of nature and the dynamic forces that have created the structures themselves. just a thought, let me know if you have any parks to recommend Ill give a list of parks Ive visted and ones id really love to see

places ive been, cant remember them all but ones id recommend
1.

I have been pondering about something for quite some time, random things I've been thinking about lately when I get bored at work, and wondering if maybe some input, theories or some guidance might help.
I've been thinking about deep ocean vents, and thermophiles, for those in geology or who randomly watch the discovery channel or are a science lover you might know what im talking about. Deep ocean vents are outlets of extremely superheated water escaping from the Earth out on the ocean floor, usually bringing with it a mixture of minerals like sulfur, pyrite, calcium silicon etc.
Around these vents are a variety of animals that can actually survive in these extreme climates, like tube worms, crabs, various other worms etc. Now many of these creatures are primarily white and have no pigmentation, most of these vents are so deep that light does not penetrate to that depth. However some of the creatures have pigmentation, for example the tube worms are partially red, the crabs are born red and some other worms have different pigmentation, I might add that the crabs also have eyes and so on
What baffles me is WHY they have eyes and pigmentation, i mean cave creatures like crickets, fish etc they have no pigmentation, no eyes, but these thermophiles and sea creatures do, and i want to know why?
Another interesting thing I found is that a lot of thermophiles are known to take sulfur and use it as a respiratory base, and not oxygen, i think thats a heads up for scientist, I bet ten bucks maybe later in my lifetime or down the road we will find that life on other planets can exist w/o oxygen, Im still skeptical about water, however so far its needed for all life as we know it.
So just a little something to think about, give me some input, I dont mind what it is. Im kindve guessing pigmentation is genetic and has something to do with the mineral content that they are exposed to or eat, but just a guess I dont really know, anyways let me know your thoughts!

Been awhile since ive updated and I have some exciting news to share so listen up

The University of Southern Indiana is hosting the North Central Geological Society of America meeting April 23-25 here in Evansville at Casino Aztar. I would encourage all who can come to please sign up and do so! We will have many exciting guest speakers and we have a lot of great sponsors for the meeting this year ( including the company I work for Marshall Miller & Associates visit their website at [link] )

here is the link to the 2008 North Central GSA meeting
[link]

take a look around and see what cool stuff will be going on, as a geology major I will be working with some fellow students and staff members to prepare for the meeting and events and will pretty much be there the entire time working as a helper of some sort. A note to all students you do not have to be a geology major to volunteer to work, perks are that you get in free, get free food and you get a free t-shirt so yay for freebies!

On a side note I hope all is well for everyone, here in the Midwest we are getting a shit load of ice and snow which is becoming quite annoying, especially the 1/4 - 1/2 in of ice which Evansville's Department of Transportation just completely fails taking care of our roads in the first place so thank god for 4 wheel drive. anyways I know spring break is coming up for many of us, i wish you well and dont have too much fun

Good luck and I hope to see you at the North Central GSA meeting!

Mondays will suck because ill be on campus from 10 am till 6 because of chem lab but hey at least i can get everything out of the way pretty much at the beginning of the week

Fall is in full swing now all the trees have changed and its absolutely gorgeous, really my favorite time of year love the cool weather, awesome colors and crisp smell just awesome, cant wait to see more awesome pics from everyone too

Well today I officially declared my major for Geology, which is a relief, I finally have that taken care of and something i can work towards, Ive also joined the USI Geology Club, a great group of people, we went camping not too long ago and I believe we will be taking some more field trips very soon I cant wait, the department is great and the professors are very awesome, a very helpful close-knit group of people, I really am looking forward to working with them

On another note fall has officially claimed E'ville has rained for the past few days non stop and its getting quite coolish w/ our low 40 F and high of mid 50's F. But i like the cooler weather ( just not the whole getting darker sooner thing)

Halloween is right around the corner, Im SO EXCITED prolly one of my favorite holidays just because its fun, and I love the horrendously gaudy/grotesque decorations because they're so weird and funny, so happy Halloween!

Also me and the family will be camping this weekend which is exciting ( if it doesnt rain) at Cave-in-Rock Illinois state park and we'll have a big soup cookout, fun times

Well I hope college life and all that jazz is going well for everyone, I know its about midway int he semester now for us at USI, hard to believe next week we start registering for Spring classes for next year, but take it easy, and have a Happy Halloween!

I also got my tenor sax in and it is BEAUTIFUL and plays like a charm, will take a little getting used to but hey its worth it

Also I had a grand time camping this weekend with the USI Geology Club we went camping at Pounds Hollow in Illinois and then went hiking at garden of the Gods, unfortunately there was only 3 of us, but we had a great time and I hope more people will come on the next trip because there is no better camping weather than in the fall in this neck o' the woods

Well time 2 update...again
Well things are going a bit better, my dad and my grandma Murphy are both out of the hospital and in better health, lets just hope they keep it that way.
Unfortunately my lappy is busted, something wrong w/ the hinge on the lid so have to send it in to be fixed by the company...which will take a lifetime but at least I have plenty of notebooks, pencils and hands to take notes with.
Jazz band will be performing Sept 21 on a friday for a USI faculty banquet, so we shall see how our first performance goes
AND FINALLY the weather is amazing for once today we had a high pressure system to move through after several days of rain and it is GORGEOUS outside, barely 75 degrees F here which is spectacular weather compared to the 90's we were having.
Ive also decided to join the Geology Club at USI theyre a nice group of people, plus they take several trips a year going camping, spelunking (caving) and other stuff so that should be a lot of fun
anyways I hope all is well for everyone and college has settled down a bit I know Im still getting used to my new routine but its going fairly well just extra busy.
I also want to express my sympathies and prayers to the families and people effected by 9/11, and to the brave men and women who have unselfishly put their lives on the line or have given their lives in order to help others in this country and around the world. God bless you all

I must admit I think im going to enjoy the class once its started, always found this subject interesting, and maybe later I can figure out whats wrong w/ my head XD

I am also excited about Jazz Band this year we've grown a lot, have about 20 people now which is great, plus we have another clarinet player ( just when I switch to tenor sax of course!) which makes me ubber happy

My Earth System Science class is going to be amazing, although most of the material is what I covered in Physical Geology we're going to cover stuff on a broader scale which is great yay for geology

I hope everyone is enjoying their college life, not sure when mos tof you start, some have already started a week or so ago, but I hope you enjoy it ( but dont have too much fun partying )

well in a hurry goin to work but time to update

been extremely busy work has been crazy since we're remodeling our circulation room, putting in ceiling fans and new computer stations which is nice but kinda crazy

Dads in the hospital, again, has pneumonia pretty bad and will be in ICU for awhile until they can get the infection down and some fluid off his lungs, so we'll just have to wait and see how that goes

Schools going to start this up coming monday, yay for sophomore year in college Im looking forward to this semester although I think I have some tough classes at least they sound interesting

Been record high temps and also lack of rain in this area, our crops are suffering and so is the vegetation around here we've had several trees to die because of the heat and lack of rain it hasnt been below 90 degrees F for ages, and theyre predicting over 100 again this up coming week so pray we have a Hurricane Dean make its way up the Ohio/ Mississippi river or something and bless us w/ some of its rain, speaking of Dean I hope everyone stays safe and if you live in that region dont be stupid like I would and want to stand outside and watch
thats it for now, keep cool stay safe and enjoy yourself

Well i hope everyone is alive during this flippin heat wave, considering it got 102 F yesterday ( around 40 degrees C I think?) I just about died, theyre saying 100 again today so we'll see how things go. ladies and gentleman I have to say that if the possibility of global warming hasnt crossed your mind by now, its about time it did, considering world wide extreme weather events, abnormally high temps at least 1 degree C higher than ever recorded, something is amiss.

but anyways enough of me babbling about the weather, good news at least around my neighborhood, we have been fighting a fella trying to put a party house/bar down the street from us, which is about a half block away from a 2 schools, a chrch and smack dab in a rural residential area, and i might add a very damn stubborn one at that! We all banned together and signed petitions, hired a lawyer and declared meetings with the city counsel to protest. And Im glad to say it finally paid off, the guy dropped the case so I believe he will just be building apartments there like he SAID he would.

Otherwise its also hard to believe I have little over 2 weeks left until i start my sophomore year in college, time certainly flies these days, but I am excited about this upcoming, semester ( mostly because I missed jazz band but hey Im a music dork i cant help it)

Anyways I hope everyone is enjoying their time off, please keep cool ( if possible) and hang loose

<img src="http://e.deviantart.com/emoticons/p/plotting.gif" width="18" height="20" alt=":plotting:" title="Hmm.
I finally got my box set of prismacolor pencils today so I am one happy clam, 132 count set so I am thrilled. plus my batman poster came in so my comic poster collection is now complete ( dorky I know but ive got an awesome Justice league, the flash and batman poster wootz) so now my room looks like an 11 yr old boys shrine to DC comics and Star Wars but it makes me happy

Otherwise despite the happiness of my posters and pencils Im getting kinda tired of this student financial aid crap w/ the govt and school, they keep confusing my information and just want more paper work yadda yadda well they just really need to because its making me angry and getting old. I hope no one has to go through the crappy bureaucracy and administrative bull as we have around here.

but enough of that another exciting thing is this saturdays demolition derby which i am SO stoked about its gonna be great, love me some crashing cars.
Well been taking care of two houses this past week since my grandparents and mom and sis went camping so that was fun having the house to myself, but taking care of my moms Dachshund ( which has to be on crack) was a chore, but shes ridiculously cute so it makes up for it

Also this Saturday i judged the Sport Fishing projects for the Vanderburgh County 4-H fair and I must say it was fun, but tough, the kids did a great job on their projects, ill probably be helping w/ the sport fishing tournament at the fairgrounds again this upcoming Saturday, they need some judges to help weigh and measure fish for the kids, so we'll see how that goes

I must say I am excited my prismacolor pencil set should be here within a day or two and I am stoked, cant wait!

"One small step for a man, one giant leap for man kind"

Well i was just thinking today July 20th 2007 is the 38th anniversary of the first manned mission to the moon, over 38 years ago the entire world witnessed one of the greatest feats in human history when Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Micheal Collin all on Apollo 11 made their way to the moon and back. And just to think years later how far we have come in space exploration.
it still amazes me the technological advances that we have made in the past century, and makes me wonder if 50 years from now how many other moons or worlds we will set foot on.
just another dorky ramble of mine, but just contemplate about what awesome things mankind can accomplish together ( and also that Neil Armstrong graduated from Purdue University in Indiana which is one of the greatest Aeronautical universities in the world! oh yea!)

just spent the entire day helping my sister work on her 4-H poster for her Wildlife project and finally finished it and i must say it turned out quite nicely she did an awesome job

The Freedom Festival was this past week unfortunately it was a little disappointing because we didnt have much of an air show this year but hey we had a few F-16s, p-51's and some choppers and coast guard here which was nice

Also its a sad day because im no longer a teenager 20 yrs makes me feel too old , lol but ill always be a little kid

but thanks to Will who gave me like the entire friggen DC comic universe and seasons of Justice league and Superman, which are the bomb, ill be busy watching some awesome cartoon eps and catching up on my comics soon enough, and i also ordered some posters but they wont come in for a week or two but im pretty excited

also my friends mom let me borrow her Tenor Saxophone which im starting to play now for jazz band AND my best friend, which btw is insane for doing so, gave me her old trombone, which is absolutely gorgeous to me for my bday so i have my own instrument museum at my house now, piano, guitar, clarinet, tenor sax and trombone so its fun times

Im also ubber excited because ill be shopping tomorrow for a box set of colored pencils, ill probably get a nice box set of prismacolor pencils ( which cost ana rm, leg fist born) but theyre completely awesome so cant wait to actually COLOR and DRAW something nice now yay
otherwise i hope everyone is doing well, so whats everyone up to this summer?
a bit of advice...never volunteer to help give your grandma a hair perm...its total hell, and i probably got lung cancer from the chemicals and smell lol

but besides that things have been going smoothly, hanging out w/ the family, work has went well even though patrons have been freaking out because we've changed our loan policy to two week loans for materials instead of 3, unlimited checkouts for CD's and VHS tapes ( which sucks at checkout when people bring up 20 CDs and 20 VHS tapes) etc so its crazy

otherwise one of my favorite times of the year is coming up, next week is our Freedom Festival so we're gonna have Hydroplane races and airplane shows at our river front the entire week and at the Tri-State Aero airport which is SO EXCITING, the Blue Angels arent going to be here this year but a Canadian group of F-16 ( actually i think theyre more like F-17/18) fighter jets are coming here to do air shows along w/ some others, Ill have to get some pictures again and post them

Anyways I hope everyone is enjoying their summer, or I wish you the best of luck on exams i know they can be tasking mentally and physically, hang loose!

Today I was fed up being bored so I bought me a new Star Wars model to build its the Slave I, Boba Fetts ship which is ubber exciting I cant wait to start building it, its kinda sad that the owner of the Hobby Town store knows my name and most likely why Im there but I cant help it

Plus I heard the most awesome news on the planet, I found out that Indiana does not require a license to own a Kangaroo, LOL so my dream of having a pet Kangaroo is millimeters closer....probably not but hey dare to dream eh?

I also discovered a nice line of Star Wars fan films a group of fans actually got together and made 9 episodes taking place between Eps III and IV called Star Wars :Revelations its pretty cool follow this link and check it out
I must admit the roads in Detroit suck, but they had an awesome zoo, my all time fav. was the walk in Kangaroo exhibit and the Arctic exhibit, they have an awesome collection of animals if you get the chance to visit there.

Mackinac Island is a beautiful place, but a big tourist trap for sure. You have to take a charter boat to the island and either tour it on foot, bicycle, or horse and buggy because they dont allow cars on the island. Its very charming but unfortunately the weather wasnt all that great so we couldnt see as much. We also went to St. Ignace which is across from mackinaw City, and the last "larger" city ( lol its not very big at all) that is still in the U.S. until you cross the Canadian border. too bad we didnt have more time to venture into Canada but again, saved for another day.

My all time favorite was visiting the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. a gorgeous place, lots of neat trails and beautiful beaches, when you find it. We had a bit of trouble finding the blasted visitor center because we were coming from the back of the park area, but we eventually got our maps and had some fun. made me sad that the lakeshore area is a bit broken up by large steel mill plants along the shoreline, but I suppose thats to be expected in the industrialized north.

I posted a few pics of the Dunes and mackinac which i will probably put into scraps after awhile I might post some more in scraps of some zoo shots and of Alyce and I goofin around

hope all is well for everyone, if you ever need some info or maps for Michigan let me know because i have a bundle of them

Craziness!

Things have been really busy lately, I finally started working as a clerk lol which has been interesting but I think im going to like it, hell for a dollar more I cant complain.

school has been crazy as well, my table tennis class has started up, which is a load of fun since I have several friends in there and we beat the crap out of each other playing ping pong at 9 in the morning

On the downside tho some punk spray painted the passenger side of my car w/ white paint the other day while I was at school...but at least it had rained that day and I was able to get it off...but that REALLY sucked and I dont know who did it....but beware...the pink ninja bunnies will find you....

Also excited that todays the official first day of spring! yay for the vernal equinox, I am so loving this warmer weather, mid 70's here we come, plus its march and the official start of our storm season you can imagine how pumped I am about that.

nevertheless thats all I have to babble about now, I hope all is well for everyone, cheerio for now

We had a really nice cabin, though living in it with 6 other college kids can get interesting..........especially w/ cleanliness......wow

lol I posted just one pic from our trail, only two of the seven of us made it to the top of the Chimney tops trail its about a 4 mi circuit trip, which doesnt sound like much....until you realize youre climbing up a huge mountain side and then climbing a very steep rock face
boy was it a blast!

Adam and I managed not to die on top of the first peak, unfortunately we didnt get out to the second one, we had to manage our time because it was getting late and dont want to be caught out there in the dark ^.^

nevertheless it was good times i might post some more pics ins craps later, but boy, sure is good to be home, plus great news of being promoted to Central Library clerk now, yay!

A group of my friends and I are leaving for Gatlinburg ,Tennessee this Monday, we're renting a cabin in the smoky mts. right outside the city, so it should be a blast, im really looking forward to it, lets just hope we dont get too lost or eaten by a bear

However spring break is only about 2 weeks away and I'm ubber excited, a group of buddies and I are going to rent a cabin in Gatlinburg, Tennessee and chill out in the Smoky Mountains for a few days, so Im looking forward tot hat, I'll try to get some pics, lets hope I don't get eaten by a bear.....

Anyways our weather is going crazy again, a week ago we had lows of 9 degrees F, and got 4 inches of snow, and tomorrow we're supposed to have a high of 57 degrees F and rain the rest of the week, so, welcome to the diversity of indiana lol.

...

Well, was driving in the car, thinking about things as usual and this song came along, and, well...considering the way things are in life, it struck me as being a familiar feeling at times

funny how music can portray feelings so clearly

Train : Give Myself to You

When I find out who I am
I'm gonna know just what to do
When I pull myself together again
I'm gonna give myself to you

Is this forever
This feeling I've got
Not enough and too much
So free and cornered
And something and nothin
Both at the same time
I'm either out of my head
Or I'm out of my mind

When I find out who I am
I'm gonna know just what to do
When I pull myself together again
I'm gonna give myself to you

Is this forever
This feeling that I'm not movin at all and I just cant stop it
It's like I'm dreaming
And I'm wide awake too
Will you remember me
Cause I wont forget you

When I find out who I am
I'm gonna know just what to do
When I pull myself together again
I'm gonna give myself to you

I guess I was savin my life for later
Or maybe I should have been givin myself to you
Now I will but I got to find out who I am before I do
Before I do

When I find out who I am
I'm gonna know just what to do
When I pull myself together again
I'm gonna give myself to you
When I find out who I am
I'm gonna know just what to do
When I pull myself together again
I know, I'm gonna give myself to you
I'm gonna give myself to you
I'm gonna give myself to you
