Three reasons why I'm posting a journal: 1) To prove that it's not dead despite the fact it hasn't been touched since November, 2) I have some code to add to show the dA accounts for ImagineFX forum members and 3) I've just given my art blog some purpose by posting my impressions on fanfiction, or to be specific a certain type. Being a bookworm I may as well keep up to speed with all things literature no matter what - or what's passing for it in some cases.

And if there's something like a talking cat in it then I'm sold, because there aren't enough of them if you ask me.

Something's up with me lately. After SEVEN YEARS of having one idea running around in my head, I'm actually pulling out a plot. I've been jotting notes down like nobody's business over the past few days, which is more than the amount I did over those years put together.

I figured the reason - I hit my head on the sloping overhang you have over a set of stairs on Sunday (I kinda bounced upwards when I went down a step). It didn't hurt really, not even a mild concussion, but it must have tripped a switch or something because I've been going overboard.

Downside is, now that this plot has surfaced, I need to rethink my map again. Oh well, didn't like it anyway.

We're getting a Wii for Xmas - please expect over-zealous Mii making on my part, there's a considerable lack of FF Mii floating around. Knowing how clumsy I am and how enthusiastic my brother is (I nearly got belted in the face while he was doing air guitar once), I'm guessing the first accident will happen within two months.

I think I've gained another fandom (as if I didn't have enough already) - maybe it's regional pride and all that (what there is of it), but I've really gotten into the BBC series of Robin Hood lately (Will Scarlett is supposed to be buried in my local churchyard, I kid you not). I'd like to think it's because it's purely based on the fact it's a superbly written drama, but it's far too silly for that (not as silly as a Russell T Davies script mind).

No, it's more to do with the writers taking more liberty with historical accuracy than is probably legal. It's unbelievable - next week they're going all Indiana Jones on us! And this week they had a cake in the shape of the British Isle, which I'm sure shouldn't have looked any near as accurate as it did.

Another thing is that perhaps for the first time none of the 'ships scare the living daylights out of me, they just make me go WTF. The amount of ammo the writers provide for pairings is staggering - after Saturday's ep I'm nearly convinced the writers have been lurking around the fandom and decided to have some fun. That said, I still don't know what evidence supports Guy/Robin, and I don't want to think about it to be honest.

1. I think too much - the inner workings of my mind have some very odd things running around in there.
2. I've hit a creative stalemate - my mind is buzzing with ideas but my hand and brain are refusing to communicate.
3. I've developed a bit of an interest in werewolves.

Oh well, saw Tales From Earthsea on Wednesday Can't see why people were complaining about it being slow - I was glad to have problems keeping up with the plot due to the pacing being on Prozac for once (which was extremely welcome considering we saw the subbed version).

All praise due to my sister *AngelBless, she went down town for an eye test today and came back with Lego Star Wars I for the Gamecube, which I'd given up all hope of finding - she knows squat about Star Wars (only time she's ever paid attention is during lightsaber fights), but she spotted it and rang home to check that she was seeing right and this was the first game (took a little while considering I couldn't remember the cover clearly).

Oh, and does anyone know of a campaign/petition to make Stevan Moffat Russell T Davis' successor as the guy in charge of Doctor Who? The guy is a genius and if he doesn't win an award for Jekyll someone needs to be shot (or have Hyde set on them).

This week's theme seems to be "solutions so easy it verges on silly". First was the rebooting of our 15 year old Acorn A3010 computer, which we did by simply holding the delete key whilst starting up (thus performing possibly the fastest system reboot known to man).

The second one literally caused my jaw to drop. Ever since we got wireless my mac has never been able to connect to the network under its own steam. I have to click on the airport icon, go to 'Other...', select LiveBox-XXXX, set the password type to WEP/128 bit-hexidecimal and paste the WEP key in to get it connect. Problem is, the connection drops whenever the mac goes into sleep mode (blank screen, slowly flashing power light), so I have to use a program called Jiggler to make sure it doesn't, which can't be good for the screen.

This morning whilst checking something on my Yahoo account I thought I'd see if anyone had come up with a solution, because it was becoming a royal pain in the butt connecting like this all the time, especially now someone else has a hub showing up on the list. After 15 minutes on Google I found a blog that supposedly had an answer...

Put a $ at the start of the WEP key in the network window.

"Can't be that easy."

A little dubious, I turned off the airport and tried it. Pasted the key in, added the $ at the start (not easy when all you can see are dots) and applied the new settings. Nothing. No error box telling me to 'try again', no horsemen appearing (because something going right without a hitch in my house is surely a sign of the Apocalypse). Just the black Airport symbol.

Hang on... Black airport symbol?

You've got to be kidding me. All I needed to do was use a dollar sign?

Apparently, because Airport uses decimal passwords, and LiveBox is looking for a Hexidecimal one, it was like one was speaking English and the other French and they didn't understand each other. The $ lets Airport and LiveBox know it's hex.

Before I forget, no I didn't get the job.

On a sad note, my Gran died on Monday. I don't want condolences or anything, we've known it was coming for a while now, and if I'm honest I feel a bit detached from it all, I mean I feel sad, of course I do, but there's no sense of grief or loss. I'm feeling it more for my dad, because he's lost both parents now.

I am getting a litle excited though, my mum turned round to me the other day and said the next day off my dad has, we're sorting out my Intuos tablet. Making it a full... two and a half months sooner than I thought I was going to get it. Couple that with the Il Divo concert in just under two weeks, and I'm mentally starting to fidget.

My mum keeps having to remind me to make a quick call home on my mobile to stop it from being locked. So I did it this morning and was surprised to have a voicemail about an interview for a Customer Services job I'd applied for a couple of weeks back. I phoned back and I've got an interview tomorrow morning. Wish me luck!

On a totally unrelated note, we went to the Nottingham Ice Arena on Sunday to familiarise my brother with the venue before we go and see Il Divo at the end of this month. He's got a great seat and we're along the row from him. It's lot smaller that we thought, and he actually could deal with the noise in there (they were re-doing the ice) - it just made us unable to hear what people were saying. He's real excited now, we all are. It's gonna totally rock (and if me and Angel get hold of glow sticks we'll probably revert to 5 year-olds).

I've got my new Shuffle, so what's the first thing to be done? Plonk a load of music on it. Problem is, I was being told there was no music on it, even though it was right there in the contents window. After much internet searching I happened across a possible culprit - the file format. I have all my files as mp3 for ease of compatibility, and as far as I know Shuffles can play them. So I converted a track to AAC (Apple's own format) to see what happened and guess what? It worked. So now I'm converting my playlist to AAC till I can sort out the mp3 problem. It's not a biggy, just really odd.

And as advanced warning, Doctor Who starts tomorrow, so be prepared for me going into full 'geek mode' over the next 13 weeks (punctuated with me raving about the Il Divo concert). I reserve the right to be an idiot.

EDIT: Well I'll be a bacterium's a-hole. iTunes's autofill function was the troublemaker by not copying the songs over properly. Doing it manually makes mp3s work, so I'm converting them back from AAC again.

On Wednesday on a trip down town I took a look at the iPod Shuffles in HMV. £55 for a 1GB blue one. "Hmm" I thought. "If mine dies I'll get one of those to replace it."

dA is not working properly in Seamonkey anymore. The browse section disappears upon loading now, alongside the current vanishing comments trouble. This is only happening on v.5 pages, and when I sent a helpdesk reporting the latter I got this in reply:

"We are sorry but dA doesn't support the Seamonkey browser."

Bull! It was working perfectly fine in Seamonkey up until now. And Seamonkey = Mozilla, which if I recall has a lot of users. I am NOT browser-hopping for the sake of this one site.

Am I the only one suffering this?

EDIT: Well I be a son of a monkey. The mystification over why Seamonkey isn't supported still stands - in fact, it's increased if anything - but the bugs had nothing to do with dA at all. It occurred to me this morning that dA might have altered the classes of the different components of the site. My hunch was right, and the culprit in fact turned out to be a Greasemonkey script called deviantUNANNOY that's meant to remove ads, but which didn't really do anything in the first place, and I ended up leaving it on. Obviously the script wasn't written to be very specific and ended up targeting exactly what it wasn't supposed to.

So now Seamonkey is working perfectly again. Which is strange behaviour for a browser that "isn't supported" by this site.

Sometimes I start to wonder about the state of merchandising, and I came across a prime example this morning doing my web rounds.

So I read the Doctor Who books - the ones for the new series - and Angel has brought on on a few occasions about the photos of the Doctor and Rose on the covers, something along the lines of: "do they pay them to stand around looking like muppets or what?"

I'm inclined to agree, as they seem like someone couldn't be arsed to think them out properly because it's a showed aim at kids (despite instances to the contrary). Even the Torchwood covers are better designed, and that was a worse series.

The covers of the three new books with Martha are even more of a hoot than usual. Just what is he doing in that first one? And if I didn't know any better I'd swear that the third one had it's pic of the Doctor robbed from one of the first promo images (wouldn't bee the first time). And the pictures under the title are worse than usual. Sometimes I think David Tennant is thinking " I feel a complete prat" whilst these photos are being shot.

Seriously, would it have hurt to do the traditional cover art that adorns most books? I quite like some of the old DW book covers, and I'm there are a lot of artists looking for work who'd jump at the chance to do a job like that. Hell I would.

Oh, and despite the fact I'm not doing much at all lately on dA I'm still getting favs left right and centre. What's all that about?

Dragons, mythical beasts, weird beasts, people when I'm in the mood for giving myself another headache.

Pencil. I used to outline in pen, but I stopped doing it after getting a tablet and Photoshop.

H or B pencil depending, Painter IX.5 (2B pencil brush), Photoshop on rare occasions (custom pencil brush) and a Graphire3 tablet.

Either the imagined final image (I consult my long term memory a lot, it's more reliable than my short term) or something related, or something completely different. I never let myself becom totally focused on a painting, otherwise I end up thinking too hard about what I'm doing and inevitabley create something I'm not happy with.

Another one for the "Stupid Question" catagory methinks. But yes, I'm a visual thinker which tends to help. I often mull over something I've been doing working out which tool will work best or how two things will fit together.

Once, two of my friend Emi's friends came up to the table I was sat at at college while I was drawing my demon dragon. I distinctly remember them taking one look at it and saying "I hate you" in the nicest possible way. Which was their way of saying "dude, you're awesome".

[8]Do you get frustrated when you draw?
A far bit, especially with faces and heads. I think too hard and screw them up.

[9]Are you shy when it comes to people saying your art is amazing?
I'm shy at letting people see it, but I'm fine when they eventually do.

Closest I got was winning an Art award for getting straight A's in art one year at secondary school.

I think it has character, but it's not the best it could be yet.

Do what you think you should do. Don't pander to others and draw they will like. Draw what you love and it will shine through in your art.

Mix of both. I do realistic art with a touch of cartoonism. People have a somewhat manga style atm.

Someone accused me of that one in a forum thread about realism being overrated and I wanted to knock their block off. What they said was vicious and hurtful and really upset me.

This afternoon British Time the three months subcription I got with my Print Account - which is the only thing I have that will expire when Hell freezes over (leaving me to wonder what the staff are going to do if it actually does happen) - will expire.

Am I bothered about it? Not really, the main boon of having a subscription for me is the thumbnails in the message centre and comment previews (a real time saver) and the extra stats, but I've never been a subcriber to the belief (no pun intended) that you need a sub to get noticed by the community. I'm more content in focusing on a seperate website in conjunction with my gallery than customizing all the added bells and whistles that you get for journals.

Ok, I turned 20 on Tuesday (note to self: do new id as old one is 2 years out of date). No pressies because the dragon model I've asked hasn't arrived at the shop yet, so it's belated. And Super Smash Bros Melee is seriously delayed.

The main thing about turning 20 means that next year I'm 21, which means I get a bigger budget for presents. I'm not normally fussed about loads of pressies, but I've got my eye on an A5 Wide Intuos3 tablet which is about £300 since I'd like to add a bit more swing in my arm movements when painting and to be able to make better use of some of the brushes in Painter IX, not to mention get rid of any distortion with my widescreen iMac. So my mum and dad have agreed to let it be a joint present between Xmas and my Birthday (a perk to have a birthday at the end of January). I'm already trying to work out what to assign to the express keys to save me going to the keyboard since it's going to be practically impossible to reach over the tablet (it's going to be a stretch to fit on the lap tray I use to rest my Graphire on).

Oh, and I'm 6 away from 5000 pageviews. Who wants to bet no-one catches it?

One of the best days ever today. My parents have decided to upgrade to wireless broadband, meaning that me and Angel will be online at the same time. And then we found out that not of the computers (mac included) were ready to use it. So, yesterday we got pc cards for the laptops and this morning we went to the Apple store we brought my G5 from to fit the Airport card (Gordon Harwood Computers in Alfreton, Derbyshire. Highly recommended). And at the same time we had a gig of ram fitted. Now I can create large canvas files without fear of a system blowout (how I avoided it before I shall never know).

I also took a sneaky peek at a leaflet on the Wacom Cintiq whilst I was there too (couldn't resist) - as I said to my dad, anyone who has one of those puppies gets instant God status in my eyes. Whole thing cost £176 - I originally thought I'd be in debt till May, till my mum reminded me of £50 I had left over from last year holiday. And after having had a peek on the website at the price of an A5 and A6 wide intros, I can safely say I won't be having one of those anytime soon, more's the pity.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Paying attention Square-Enix? This is how you should be handling a franchise. Which basically means "don't start planning sequels before you release the game just because some people will pay for any old tripe you throw at them." This game is bliss. The only moments of frustration usually came after commentary from my brother, which is pretty irritating when you're trying to climb up on a goron that's about to do an impersonation of a springboard before it goes off.

On another note, I applied for a library job at a couple of local libraries this morning. Having to hike down town to the local Job Centre to sign on for Job Seeker's Allowance every two weeks for 2.00pm gets very annoying when you have to take the bus both ways. I'm having one of those evenings where I generally can't be arsed. Might have something to do with going out in the cold to put up some Xmas lights (if it was snowing I'd feel better about it). I'm annoyed at my current job hunting situation - being hard-of-hearing means I can't do a job that requires me to use a phone (not that I'm complaining), which just about rules out most jobs going. Others either require a driving license (can't drive, nor do I feel easy about doing so), experience (just how am I supposed to get experience when I can't get a job in the first place?) or those that I do apply for can't be bothered to call me back at all.

Someone asked me if I will be doing commissions, I said I'd get back to them on it, as I'm trying to figure out my sums - someone shoot Microsoft for not having a dollars to pound conversion formula in Excel. Damn that's annoying. So I have that plus getting paintings ready to become prints plus finding a job to contend with. I hope I get a job soon, otherwise my prints and commissions will be causing problems with my jobseeker's allowance.

A thought for you. If you wanted a commission, depending on your money situation, would you rather pay a set price for an image, or buy a subscription in exchange instead? I don't mind either way, and I know some would find it easier to afford a 3 month subscription than a set price.

It's pretty obvious I'm now subscribed. But the thing is how long I'm subscribed for. Three months. There's a reason for this - after much umm-ing and ahh-ing I've brought a print account.

Anyone who's willing to sift through the copious amounts of spam on the news page will have seen the Prints Update article, and the fact that at the launch all members will get standard print accounts and the premium will need an annual fee. BUT - anyone who has a premium account at the time of the Prints II launch will get a lifetime premium account (I was so sure I was dreaming that I had to ask to make sure I was reading it right). Hell, no way I'm passing that up. Especially since the new product include books (writers throughout the community probably needed resus), graphic novels (I nearly needed resus), and one that made my jaw drop - skateboards! Holy crap you'll actually be able to buy a skateboard.

Since I'm subscribed til Febuary, I'm going to make some time to tidy things up a bit alongside job hunting and getting paintings ready for my print shop. Although I'll have to get back to you on prices, maybe I need to ask my brother for help...

OK, didn't get a job offer - there weren't any suitable positions available - so I think I'd better sort a portfolio out. Which happens to be the downside of being a digital artist - just what do you do about printing it out? I'll figure something, maybe shell out for a new photo cartridges and use some of that photo paper I have lying around (hardly gets used for the proper purpose you know, if at all). In the meantime I've applied for a temp job at my local video games store. Hopefully they'll stop playing KH2 footage by the time I start if I get it. I've seen quite enough of it for one decade thank you very much.

I brought a fantasy encyclopedia when down town for an eye test this morning (right eye actually keeps improving, which is a surprise), and while reading through it I came across something called Dragoncharm. I remembered it when I went online this evening and decided to look it up. It's the first of a series of books of Graham Edwards where dragons are the central characters (think Watership Down with dragons and you're practically there). I was surprised - how come I had never heard of these before? Here I was pondering my story and wondering whether having dragons as centralized characters displaying human characteristics would work and here were books which pulled it off. Certainly gives me some confidence in attempting it.

Problem is, I want to read these books now (and possibly the other trilogy he wrote too), but they're all out of print. Has anyone heard of or read these books? Or perhaps know if they will be reprinted? Heck, even an e-book will do. Any help would be much appreciated.

I sent off an email to apply for a job at a local design studio. There are two areas that I want to work in, I just hope they actually read it instead of passing it by because of my yahoo email address. I really hope they give me a shot, because it would be just great to get paid to do something I love. So at the moment I'm anxiously awaiting a reply.

I'm also getting to find out whether you can draw and write with your wrist strapped up (typing's certainly a bit tricky). I ended up whacking my right wrist against the the edge of the keyboard shelf the other day, and I think I hit a nerve as there's a bit of a persistent ache. So rather than leave it and possibly make the problem worse I put on one of those tube bandages to give it some support because the last thing I want is my drawing hand out of action. Although it doesn't half itch I can tell ya.

I know programs are prone to go weird at times (Photoshop has an occasional habit of resetting its preferences), but Seamonkey gone and done the whole caboodle (however that's spelt). It's essentially gone back to factory settings - no passwords and the homepage reset among other things (hope you remember most of your passwords sis, and mum's come to think of it). No idea why it's done it, but at least the bookmarks are still there. I've spent ages nurturing that library of links so that I can access something at a moment's notice. To lose it would be nothing short of a catastrophe.

Like ~AngelBless I'm getting an external hard drive for Xmas. It's 250GB, which is 50 less than her's but mine needs to be mac compatible. Then I'll be able to backup my whole hard drive so I can finally do those system updates and have a scratch disk for Painter and Photoshop (which they seriously need, keeping a 256MB ram mac from packing up from the workload isn't easy with those two). But I think I'm gonna a need a two way usb hub to put in the back since it needs another port - or plug my tablet into the hub at the back of the keyboard, whichever's easier.

Maybe next on my list should be a ram upgrade.

My infection has cleared up - yiphee!

I owe ~AngelBless a fanart of D.Gray-Man for getting her hooked on it - although the blame can be traced back to our friend Emi, who got me hooked in the first place. Can't wait to see how the anime turns out.

I have at least two paintings on the go at the moment, and a couple on hiatus (it includes your request Kacey, sorry bout that). But for some reason my mac was having trouble with memory and Painter slowed to a crawl. And the zip disk played up. That was really odd.

I was a little surprised eariler when looking through some of my old schoolwork my mum have found whilst clearing out the cupboard. I seriously couldn't remember having such a flair for creative writing (I was really surprised to find a poem I'd written that was rather good, I've never been one for poetry) - the years of misery at secondary school must have made me blot out the memories.

We also found a load of photos from when me and my brother and sister were kids. I can't believe what a poser my brother was. And we found a very odd photo of my dad. I can't think for the life of me who he reminds me of though.

Why isn't there an emote for being in serious pain?

At the moment I have toothache, which is pretty determined to not only make one of my front teeth which have crowns on feel like someone's jammed a cocktail stick underneath it when pressed on it anyway (or when I have hot tea), but set off every other tooth on the left side of my mouth off something chronic. Upside is I no longer feel like someone's socked me in the gob. But that's a small upside in the overall scheme of things.

And today I got a comment telling me that an Italian magazine has printed my pokemon wallpaper (along with other people's fanart) without permission. I want words. Thank you ~Pkergirl for telling me about this.

Right back to trawling the net (anything to distract me from the ache in my molars).

EDIT: Okay, nothing serious has shown up on the xray, but I tell ya, if this is just an infection I hope I never get anything more serious. Bizarrely, it's not my front teeth that are causing me pain (although my left crown seems to give ever so slightly when I press it with my tongue, but that might be because of additional sensitivity) - despite the pain hopping a tooth and the fact my nose feels like it did the time ~AngelBless accidentally poked me in the face with a feather duster - it's my back molars on my left side. Knew there was something that needed doing when I came back from holiday. *ahem* Hoilday was great, I'm amazed at how much we managed to get done - and the weather forecast managed to be wrong every single day. Which just goes to show that you really need to have a seperate weather station for mountainous regions.

Anyone who remembers what I said in my last journal will also know that I said my scanner wouldn't know what hit it. Guess what? I've forgotten to do that too. One the plus side my new painting's coming along great - but I find out that hair is a real pain in the butt to paint that it doesn't look as flat as a pancake.

It's not been the best couple of days lately. Sunday we found out that on of the people who lives on my street that I grew up with had been shot in Afghanistan. I saw the man from the MoD go into the house, and I knew something had happened. I was kinda in a daze for the rest of the night, it was hard to take in, and I wasn't really a friend, just someone who had known him. The grief around here is just so intense at the moment, since we live in a little cul-de-sac. And to make things worse we currently have the press sniffing around - they're stopping anyone they can get hold of for information.

Now, this morning I got a reply to something I'd posted on the forum. I basically said that I thought realism was rather overrated in my opinion since you seem to only be deemed a great artist if your work is realistic (just so you know, the topic was about anime being overrated).

To say I was shocked at what the person said is a bit of an understatement. This person basically said that I was the reason people hate anime, that logic about why realism is better escaped me and that he had nothing but pure hatred for us "talentless hacks". This person obviously hadn't looked at my gallery, and himself has nothing whatsoever to show that he has some degree of artistic talent. It's obvious he was aiming to cause hurt with his comment, and it certainly succeeded - my family has a strong sense of fairness and my dad especially was incensed by what was said.

Don't worry, my reply was reasonable - although I have a feeling his response with be just as insulting as before.

Hear me now. I am never, Never (with a capital N), going to up sticks and go and live somewhere with a permanently warm climate. The current heatwave in England at the moment is driving me up the wall. Too damn hot - we're not built for these conditions! Whenever it's hot I get aches and sharp pains. At the moment they have decided to take up residence in the right side of my chest, nothing to do with my heart (I don't think heart related pain feels like someone jabbing you very hard in the chest) but I'm not entirely sure whether it's caused by a certain part of my anatomy in that region or my asthma. But some prat who's got a fire going isn't helping the situation. Muscle pain is a pain in the ass.

My current pic in Painter is coming on a treat. I was practicing my anime drawing last week and was struck with an idea that I just had to draw. So I drew it, and decided to put my Doctor Who fanart on hold so I could paint it. The question is, do I stick it in anime or fantasy?

Speaking of Doctor Who, it's over till Xmas - that was one hell of a sad finale, followed by the biggest WTF moment I've ever witnessed - and my withdrawal is beginning to kick in. I'd better watch through series one again to starve it off till the series two box set comes out (and I really want to watch series two again, particulary episode 4).

Someone made an amusing point about whether David Tennant would be leaving. They said, and I quote, "He won't. A kid who queued for hours to get Tom Baker's autograph and can answer more fanboy questions about the show than I can is not going to do a Davison." (Davidson meaning he'll scarper after two year) I don't think we'll see the back of him for a good while yet.

Don't know 'bout anyone else, but in my experience I've found having a fanboy of the show as the lead isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Wasn't half kidding when I said don't hold me to getting that fanart in time for Doomsday, I've have a lot to do and it airs in three days! Bit hard to get motivated when you're stuck in a heat wave. And I'm still trying to adjust to my new glasses (got them yesterday), headaches aside they should be fine once I get used to them trying to squeeze the life outta the bridge of my nose! >.< The pollen count isn't helping either. And I've got the most irritating heat itches ever. Especially at the base of my skull on the back of my neck - it's like neck ache but prickly and itchy to boot.

Right enough of me moaning. I got the results for my Multimedia course last Tuesday (and thanks to my memory being on top form, I forgot to post a journal) aaannnd...

I got three Distinctions! You can't get higher than that. Apparently I had a grin that threatened to spilt my face in half when I came back out of the Multimedia room.

This does pose a small problem now, I'm on a gap year and I've got to find employment or start making money out of my art - I'm leaning towards the latter as I'd rather put my skills to use instead of working a till (I hate maths).

Damn chest cold. I'm at the "hacking up phlegm" stage, which is about as fun as having your teeth pulled, except not as painful. If those who have my msn get a sudden surge of typos from my end at the moment, you have a good idea why.

It better clear up sharpish, cos I've got to go in tomorrow to pack up my presentation (my animation went down a storm by the way, despite the dodgy audio), and then we're going to Lincoln on Wednesday. And I'd rather not be hacking up stuff during Doctor Who on Saturday. It's the two-part finale already - nooooo! Why does it have to end? I'm gonna have serious withdrawal after this.

*groans* I'll admit I've felt better. RIght now apart from my new glasses not sitting right on my nose (and if you're as short-sighted as I am you'll know how annoying that is) my chest feels congested from a cold. Might be the paint and turps fumes from when we're were painting the presentation boards this week irritating my lungs. And my arms feel like they want to detach. I'm glad I don't have to go to college until next Thursday afternoon.

Right now I've discovered several things:

1) no matter how much you need the exercise going up and down stairs repeatedly is not the way to do it. It's more likely to kill you than being overweight if you ask me.

2) Muscle aches play tricks on you. What felt like symptoms of a heart attack turned out be from when I twisted a my left shoulder a couple of months back. I think I took out every muscle in that area. And a few nerves to boot.

3) Despite what the mac fan-boys say iMovie is not the best "free" video editor. My poor iMac had to suffer unwarrented verbal abuse thanks to that program.

4) Never and I mean never leave anything lying about in a classroom, particulary if you're doing an art and design course unless you want it back in the same condition as when you first got it (or want it back full stop).

5) Seven days really does feel like an age when you're watching a two parter on tv. The Satan Pit can't come on quick enough for my liking.

It's here! It's here! It finally came this morning before I went for my eye test - my mum played a really cruel prank on me saying it was some books she ordered (to which I started thinking "what book?") - did a little happy dance around the house, beats deafening everyone with my singing. I've been playing around with it this afternoon - I'm still trying to remember exactly which tool did what, but I'm getting there, I stuck some tools I know I'm gonna use into a custom toolbox. I'm still gonna use photoshop from time to time, it depends on my boredom levels and which program's open at the time (and it has an easy to find scan option, I've yet to find it in Painter, if indeed there is one).

Another thing, turns out after having my eye test that my right lens is too strong - my eye has actually gotten better. Whether it's due to me lacking any finesse in gauging my sight (unlikely, I notice changes easily) or my eye actually has improved I'm not sure, but at least I know why I've been getting headaches and loss of focus lately - I've been over-focusing. Might stop these sinus headaches too, they're killing me lately.

Ever get the feeling that somethings are just meant to be? Some might remember me mentioning that I was itching to own Painter IX in the comment for Before The Dawn. I didn't win a copy, but by sheer luck - and me goofing off on work again, wasn't like I could do an insane amount - I discovered that Corel have an offer to buy the full version of Painter IX.5 at the upgrade price. And my mum's let me buy it yiphee! (she has the credit card in case you're wondering) Oh I can't wait! I've missed Painter.

Firstly sorry to those who watch my scraps, I've been tidying up my gallery a little - been meaning to do that for a while. This does mean that my scraps outnumber my main deviations, but considering I've got three paintings on the go (possibly four, depending on when I remember to scan something in) It should even out again.

I need a new ID, for a start the current one has the wrong age, and I need to add a few things here and there. My fmp deadline's coming up, so I got the weekend and the week break in two weeks time to animate and put it together. I'll do it, I've just got to stop procrastinating.

1) I have a odd habit of thinking in prose. Well, I used to, but reading manga and watching anime a lot of late has dulled it a bit.

2) I've recently noticed that I have a bit of a thing for straightening things out and tidying things. It's only with some things, like the rug in the kitchen or the covers on the settees, and organising the files on my mac - I despise a untidy desktop. Now if only it would extend to my room, then my mum wouldn't get so mad at it being a dump. I also have a habit of keeping things in a certain order, like my dolphin collection - I'm always making sure I put them back on the shelf in the exact same order after I've dusted them.

3) I seem to have a different personality online than in real life. I tend to have a bad case of run-of-the-mouth when typing.

4) I'm maturing in reverse. I'm definitely more immature now than I was a year ago.

5) Angel doesn't know it, but my mind's quite a active place, and slightly macabre - I scare myself sometimes. I lost count a while back of how many times I've killed off/maimed/traumatised my characters in my imagination.

6) I'm a science geek, handy when you're watching Star Trek and they spouting a load of techno-babble, I have a good idea what they're on about. I'm also a sucker for ludicrous sci-fi plots. I couldn't give a stuff how implausible and daft the scripts are, they're great fun.

Been awhile since I've talked about Pokemon. So I'll do this quiz I "borrowed" from ~Cotton-gravy

1) What was your first Pokemon game?
Pokemon Blue, mainly because I really wanted Magmar. I'll come clean - I used the Missingno cheat for infinate Master Balls and Fire Blasts.

2) Can you remember who your starter was?
Squirtle. Never did evolve him.

3) Did you ever complete the Pokedex in any games? Which one(s)?
Nope. Didn't come close in Blue, although we did use a Xploder cartridge to get Mew - cutest little thing ever.

4) Did you watch the Pokemon anime?
What do you think? Although about halfway through Johto I kept getting this sense of deja vu.

5) Do you still watch the anime?
Only the movies. They still retain a cool plot.

6) What's your favourite Pokemon type? Explain.
Dragon (duh). Despite the fact you need a hell of a lot of patience to level them up, they're rock solid on the offensive front (my Dragonite kicked Lance's butt into the forth generation).

7) Who's your favourite Pokemon? Explain.
Dragonite. A cute dragon who packs one hell of a punch. And his good attack stat makes Fly a great asset despite slightly off accuracy.

8) Which Pokemon do you dislike the most? Explain.
Most of the Ruby/Sapphire lot. They just don't look like Pokemon to me anymore.

9) Which is your favourite region? Explain.
Johto. The Bug Catching contest, berries (I make a habit of stockpiling, saves me loads on anitdotes etc), having to track down the cats (my prodest achievement - I nabbed all three in 2 days), and a whole cave full of Dratini - what's not to love about it?

10) Which is your favourite Pokemon series (ie, Kanto 1-151, Johto 152-251, Hoenn 252-358, others)? Explain.
Johto - the dark and steel types are amazing, and breeding - talk about fun.

11) Can you say a series Pokedex, without a reference, in order?
Hey, I may be able to recall their rough whereabouts in the pokedex, but I'm not that good.

12) Do you know all the type advantages, disadvantages and all the super-effective moves for each type?
Yeah. I still double check, but I know now which pokemon gets its ass handed to it by what.

13) Did you prefer Pokemon before the new ones, or after?
Definately before. The only good thing about the lastest ones is the fact there are more dragons.

14) Have you got an Original Character who is a trainer?
No.

15) Have you ever written a fanfiction story about Pokemon?
Never really written fanfiction, so no.

For those who have real potential and talent - keep at it, don't let anyone else tell you what your style should be. You are unique and so is your art. And you are free to choose to draw whatever your heart desires.

To the 'sheep' of dA (you know who I'm talking about) - Don't jump on the bandwagon, if you're gonna draw fanart, don't base it off what's already out there. If you're gonna draw anime or fantasy, be unique. No-one wants to see 3000 odd carbon copies of the same thing. And for the love of all that's sacred don't stay at the same skill level all your life. You don't stop growing as a person and neither should your art.

And don't try to be someone you're not. You are the only one who walks like you, who talks like you, who thinks like you. Those who achieve in life are those who stand out from the crowd, not disappear into it.

The colouring - I overkill on detail.

Depends on whether I leave it for a bit or not. Maybe a few hours.

Course, even the ones I screwed up.

Verdana half the time, although I'm very fond of Papyrus.

300dpi. Especially important if I'm zooming right in.

Watch TV or listen to my iPod, although the latter's a bit of a rarity.

Writing this journal took considerabley longer than usual, I started writing it last week but got kicked off the mac and couldn't finish. Which meant I lost my train of thought. So I'm going to do a rundown of what I want to say:

- They've finally given fanart subcategories (huzzah!). Should be easier to navigate now, but I think fancomics might need splitting up at some point.

- Somehow - I have no idea exactly what I did, I imagine I've twisted funny at some point - I've managed to completely throw out my left shoulder. Which explains the persistant muscle pain I've had on the left side of my neck for the past week.

- My procrastination has known no bounds this week. It's taken me a week and a half to finish colouring Al and now I've moved onto Ed (which is moving considerable faster).

- I've been coding a stylesheet for my LJ layout (hooray for Smooth Sailing!), so I've been using it an excuse to create a new header that will probably become my new ID.

... Can't remember anything else... Later.

Finally! All my first projects for college are done and done! I thought I'd go mad. Now things might be relaxed enough for me to do some more art and practice my anime skills - if only a) I could stop going on the internet as much and b) get off Baten Kaitos for more that 2 hours.

Onto another point, that Fake Friends thing got me thinking - I have 39 watchers and around 10 - 12 of them actually show up at any point. Where are the rest of you? Some that watch me have made so much as a peep since they started, and to be fair I think it's a bit pointless to watch someone if you're not going to comment or fav.

Btw, I think I've gone and broke the dA fan system. My current FMA fanart isn't doing much at all compared to my Dark Tempest pic. Annoying when a real poor comic of the FMA movie gets over a thousand views and mine get around 60 (and Angel won't be offended by that 'cos she's said mine's way better). Strange how it works.

Well I'm impressed, I'm not the size of a beached whale after Christmas - I may be large (and I am not fat, I'm heavy-boned. I'm serious, the weight's coming from somewhere and it definately isn't from excess baggage) but my appetite is rather small. On the downside we've got enough sweets to feed a small army.

Also I've altered the name of my journal, because it was actually the title I was looking for for my fiction. Trust that bit to be in pain sight. So the community for it has been made, but give it a while before anything concrete is up.

Now that brings me onto something else - are any of you members of Livejournal? I'm building my friends list and would like to know if there are any others.

The day is here! After going through a small mountain of wrapping paper we managed to get to the presents.

I got a china eastern dragon ornament, the 2005 Land of the Dragon year piece, some other dragon items, a dolphin glass paperweight (I hadn't got one of those) and a glass-topped dragon table, of which I was sure I wasn't getting.

Angel LOVES her birthday pic (see recent deviation) - so much in fact I nearly got strangled when she hugged/glomped me. I'm rather proud of it.

Now for a musical interlude:

Yes my friends the time has come to speak of other things. Of Hannuka and Christmas Day and Kwanzaa (spelling not withstanding) and pressies!

Yes Christmas is once again upon us. And if you live in the UK you will no doubt know that at this time of year prices become rip-off. I cannot get hold of Pokemon XD! Gahh! *tears hair out* Not to mention leaving your shopping until the last minute is not smart - Daleks really are hard to find, we were lucky to find one in time for my brother.

I'm gonna be cutting it real fine with my Xmas pic, as I'm making Angelbless' birthday present. You guys are gonna see it, but she sees it first, so you'll have to wait til Xmas day. But all I can say is you're gonna be surprised.

Update: Due to the fact that I've spent 5 straight days working on Angel's present in Photoshop, I really need to take a break from it to reacquaint myself with my right hand. So there won't be a xmas pic from me this year. Sorry!

So with that being the case:

OMG chapter 54 of the FMA manga is seriously screwed-up and is now burrowing theories into my mind like a frenzied ferret. Now this is totally spoilerific and to say it here would be a bad idea. So those who haven't read the chapter don't look at this! If you really want to, go here and read from chapter 50 so that you know what the heck is going on - OK, you won't know even then but you'll get the basic jist so you won't be totally lost. As for 54 you'll have to be patient and wait till tomorrow on that site for it to appear in scanlation form. Or you can go on a mad google search for it, someone's bound to have put it up.

Done that? Then head to here and if you can get your head around that, then I know I'm not entirely crazy.

Oh the mad plot bunnies. If I stay remotely sane after this I'll be impressed.

Man this place really needs sorting out. *starts clearing away the cobwebs* So I've decided to tidy this thing up a bit. What to do... Sketches are nil at mo, creating a new piece of fanart. I've got a Gamecube with Pokemon Colosseum, so I'm gonna be lost in that for a good few months (especially when I get Gale of Darkness).

Other than that writing might start soon if I can get off this stumbling block. And yeah that's it.

It's half term... and apart from the stuff I need to do for college (which surprisingly doesn't seem that much if you ask me, these combined units and extended time for projects are working wonders) I'm itching to do something constuctive. Like actually put pencil to paper - must ask Angel for those pics of Ed for reference - and there's preparing for the cosplay that's hopefully happening in just under a month. Expect photoshopped pictures from that.

Oh, and my LJ will be the most likely place for any rough sketches I do from now on, my scraps aren't really used anyways, and I've settled in well, so I'm relocating my random stuff and sketches to there, this place will be for my finished one-offs pieces if you get my drift, so for example character designs for my fiction concept will be there with the character bios, but painted scenes from will be here, if that makes any sense. My Blue Dawn Rhapsody piece is kinda what I'm talking about.

.... I'm not making any sense here am I?

Btw, when I do start writing, it'll be on my LJ (I seriously dislike dA's way of laying out fiction on here), but I'm planning on doing a sketch based on each chapter and posting it here to let you guys know.

I've finally sorted out a LiveJournal account for storing my ranting and writings (I think I might need to find somewhere to do where people won't look over my shoulder - it's a pet hate of mine)

No longer will you guys have to put up with my novel-length journals, 'cos it will most likely be on there (I have never been so thankful for the lj cut!), as Xanga doesn't have the facilities to handle feature length entries.
