Hi,

I'm still alive, don't worry if you did (but maybe you haven't noticed my inactivity at all ) it's just examing-time. I hope so I'll finish this thursday (if I can do the last 2 exams at first time ) and then I'm planning go to the Danube shore and take some photos.

Untill then I tell you my last 'festival experience'. There was a 3 days long folklore festival in Miskolc, in the Castle of Diósgyőr. I went on Friday (6th) and Sunday (8th). Friday there was Ghymes and they were wonderful. They're professionals in music I can tell. When Szarka Tamás started to play 'Csengő Csángó' on the violine it made my flesh creep. They played many of my favourites so we called them back 2 times.
One of my friends arrived almost at the end of the concert, he was a little bit drunk. xD 'I wanted to bring you Cinzano and wine but I drank the whole' he said. x) Then, after the concert we sat down at a restaurant (or something like that) in the castle and drank some >bodzapálinka<. Well, maybe Peti shouldn't do that...he got a little bit sick. We arrived home definetly slower then we used to. (That's beacuse the road wasn't so straight as it should be for Peti. xD)

On Sunday I went to the Castle again. That friend didn't come who I talked to so I went in alone. Fortunately I met some other familiar. There was Balkan Fanatik that night. Most of the audience sat on the seats, only some of them were at the stage. However, the members of Balkan Fanatik didn't care and they enjoyed their own concert very much. Well, you can see theese times if somebody do this for music itself or for money.
After that I wanted to go but my friend said the next one will be good as well so I stayed for Csík zenekar too. I wasn't disappointed. First they played >real< folk music from XVIII-XIX centuries then - because that's their real profile - some 'folk music changed' Kispál & the Borz tracks.

I have to say the Castle was a really good place for all this festival, it had got a special atmosphere.

Monday I was on PaganFest in Budapest and it was fantastic! It started at 5 pm and finished at 1 am, so it was really tiring, but I enjoyed it. At Ensiferum my friends pulled me into the crowd but I didn't mind it. Eluveitie was a little bit disappointing beacuse I barely heard the folk instruments and it seemed like they eren't use to live performances. Maybe because it's a relatively new band I think they will get use to it.
The first I could hear was Dalriada (at Bornholm I just stood in the queue) and they were wonderful in live version too. The last - and I think the best - was Korpiklaani. About 00:30 am I thought my waist will split off but I didn't mind that and stayed untill the end.
That's a pity so Turisas didn't come.

On Tuesday I saw the Sweeney Todd movie and believe me it's amazing. Some people say singing makes it worse but I think every actor and actress has nice voice and singing doesn't make lesser the feeling. It's twisted, wicked and terrible. I like Johnny Depp very much as well as Tim Burton so when they work together that can be only a fantastic film.
I recommend Sweeney Todd for everybody. There much blood and cruelty but it tells about vendetta. Overhelming atmosphere, fascianating play-acting, costumes, and great songs.

I was on a 5 days long anthropology fieldwork again. Now I went to Fedemes, a village 35 km from Eger to the North. It has a population of 389 persons and many people live the village every year. There are very few work places and young people go to other places. Transport is bad too there are 3 bus srevices to Eger /day. However people of Fedemes don't want they village extint and they would make some upgrade there to make life better and induce young ones to stay.
We had to make interviews about their feelings about their home, their plans and notions about living in Fedemes and their advices about changes. The other kind of interviews were about family photos, we had to ask them to search tehir photographies and tell us about their life and family. So we could know them, their life, the past and present of the village.
At the evenings we went to the inn (for search interview persons, of course, khmmm.... ) and the last evening our teacher Csaba arrived too (well, he's not an avarage teacher; he loves beer and unicum very much as we got known ; and he doesn't mind if he gets drunk as we got known ) and we could convince the innkeeper of keeping the inn opened longer (other days it closed at 21.00 pm). The consequence was the drinking of a larger amount of alcohol than other days. ^^ Then we went back to the quarters and...continued drinking, khm. We went sleepn about 1.30 am.
Before you think we just drank the whole week I should tell you so we did our task and did all thw interviews we had to. The last night well...a goodbye-party needed.

I'll have a hard year in 2008. In June I'll have comprehensive exam (szigorlat) then a professional practice in the summer and then I will have to write my thesis for the spring of 2009. But I hope the next year won't be only studying. First of all I would go to Paganfest in April (maybe for Nightwish in March) and to Kapolcs in the summer again.
I wish all of you a healthy, happy and lucky new year!

At weekend I was at Tornaszentandrás and Bódvalenke, two little villages in northern-borsod almost at the Slovakian board. This area is very poor there aren't any workplaces and public transport is bad too.

I went there with one of my friend, Nóra, because we had to take interviews for a task that we got at university.

In Tornaszentandrás, there lives only 1 gypsy family but about 5 km further, in Bódvalenke 98% of population are gypsy. People are poor but nice. Children were very vivid, we couldn't take a step without them. We could give them our cameras without fear because they took care about them and gaven them back for us. They were happy about taking photos. They said we are special because we have cellphone and camera and we can eat fine cookies. The haven't got that. And they said we are nice too because we don't look down on them. Well, they weren't different than other 7-8 years old children only the haven't got new and clean clothes.
They are attending to school in another village. I think their parents give them clean clothes when they go to school because their house was clean too so I think they wear dirty clothes only at home, where it doesn't matter.
More pictures will be uploaded when I will get them from Nóra.

When I wanted to upload them on my computer, the camera signed "Memory Stick Error". Then, I couldn't watch my pics even on the camera. I brought back the memory stick to the shop where I bought it because there's still warranty on it (I bought it in this year, on 31st March). There I was adviced to call the company that vendors the memory stick. I did that and they said me to post the memory stick for them. I went to the post office and I sent it with a letter. When I had to pay I was very surprised: it was 720 Ft! One letter and a very light thing. After 5 months the memory stick wnt bad and I have to pay almost 1000 Ft to passit to them for repairing. That's the warranty. -.-

I was at Művészetek Völgye (Valley of Arts) Festival from August 2nd to 5th with 3 of my friends. We slept in tent at Kapolcs, that was enjoyable except nights because they were very cold. First day (on 2nd) we went to a concert at Kapolcs. The band's name was Hétrét and they played some kind of nice mixture of different folk musics: irish, Hungarian, Balcanic and many more. After that we went to the pasture with some Martini and Hubertus and with a blanket and we sang. I sang too because nobody heard me except my friends.
Neyt day we walked to Monostorapáti to the Köz&#233földe (Middleearth) Festival. There, we listened lectures about Tolkien, and saw a parody-piece about the journey in Moria. We ate very tasty >kemencés lángos< (a kind of scone that made in furnace). Than we got back to Kapolcs with bus. That evening we fryed bacon and sausage. Next day we went to Taliándörögd to a lecture about indian dances. After that back to Monostorapáti with hitch-ride (autóstop) because last day we didn't see the performance of one of my friends. He and his companions showed Middleearth fighting tactics.

(Oh, he's at deviantart too: [link] watch his gallery.) <--- Place of advertisement.

At the evening we went to Pula because there was a concert of Bes'o'drom (a band that plays music like Hétrét but it's faster). We danced and enjoyed it but we went to bus stop before the end of the concert - we waned to arrive there before mass. Well, in the end we couldn't got up to the bus so we hitch-rided again.
Next day we went home so we were busy with packing.

That was a really good time so next year I will be again at Kapolcs.

People just stood and straed at him. A man from the other side of the street ran there and asked him about help. The poor man asked for water and the other ran to a hotel next to the busstop. We went there and asked the twitching man about calling an ambulance but he didn't want that. The other arrived back with a bottle of water and after drinking the feeled better. Later he got on the bus himself and thanked the help. On the bus he was still twitching but not as bad as after. I asked him again about ambulance-calling but he refused again.
You know that was a true shock for me so others didn't do anything. Maybe, he could die because of others passivity. We should take care of others - and it soesn't matter if we know them or not - better.

Today I went to search somebody for my other genealogy interview. Once I saw an old woman in a court, and I asked her, but she began to cry. I was afraid I believed I said something very wrong and yes, I did. She said her husband died and her son too, he was 37 so she can't say anything good about her family. She cryed very much. I felt myself very indescreet, and I was very sorry so I mentioned her that.
After this I found finally another old lady who talked to me anout her family. I saw she talking willingly, she lived alone and she was happy she could say theese things somebody, I think.
In the afternoon, I did the 2 hours long proxematic observation (I had to sit somewhere for 2 hours, and watch how people moving - where are they going, and when). It was a little bit cold so that was a 'nice' 2 hours. At the evening, we sit at the court at the accomodation, drank some wine and talked.

It was a calm day - I was very thankful for it. In the morning we were talking as well in the first part of the afternoon. Between 2 and 3 hours pm I had to go to the old woman who I had filled the questionnarie with the day before. I went and I was refused...but not very much. She only wanted me to go back later - at 5 pm. I went back and I could do my first genealogy interview - she was a very good person for it: she didn't spoke too much so I was ready after 45 minutes and I knew about her family enough to draw her genealogical tree.
After I went back to my room, me and three other girls went taking photos in the village (some of them you can see here).
At the evening we roasted bacon on spits and drank some really fine wine (Tokaji aszú). We didn't want to go back to the cold rooms so we stayed for long hours at the fire.

In the morning I got filled the other two questionnaries I had to with a young woman who lived in a large and nice house (and who was unemployed and lived with her sister, brother, who was unemployed as well and with her father) and with an old woman. I discussed her about interviewing her next day.
In the afternoon Kriszti and me went back to the old couple who filled the questionnarie during 2,5 hours because we wanted to interview them about their life.
We were happy when they started to talk about their childhood, about what kind of games they played. We believed we can make a great interview. We were naive.
After 5 minutes they talked about the life in '60s and after another 5 minutes they talked about '90s. Then, they jumped back to '70s and then, '90s again. After 2 hours of suffering (I should say we suffered only, they enjoyed it very much) the old man stopped talking because Balázs show began. We left with a mass of inexplicable sentences which followed each other without system. We knew we have to make another or work with this for a week. We were a little bit despaired.
At the evening our teacher arrived and we complained her during hours about the accomodatin, people and difficulties of interviewing etc. After that she calmed us so among the 4 groups that doing fieldwork at the moment, we are the best and we made the most part of the tasks. She gave us advices. After that we felt better.

I had to wake up early (that wasn't easy because the whole place were strange and I can't sleep well in an unaccustomed bed) and after a coffee, and a cigarette I stood at the enter of the accomodation's court because of doing "proxematic observe". (I had to draw who came and where he/she went so I had to note the moving of people.) That was only 10 minutes but I had to do that every day in the same time (you can imagine how serious was I with this rule).
After that, Kriszti (one of my roommates) and I started to have filled the questionnaries. At the beginning we just lazed on streets not being sure what to do. Then we glimpsed a woman at a court so we shouted to her "Good morning". She listened us and she invited us in the house. She answered our questions as she could but she was very nice, and offered us coffee and cigarettes. (We accepted that because we feared of that she takes offense at refusing.) The house wan't large but clean. We talked about many things, she brought in her almost 1 year old daugther from the other room. Roberta was a really beautiful little girl, with huge black eyes. Her mother, Zsuzsa was 22 years old. Later Zsuzsa's mother-in-law arrived and she was kind too. After filling the questionnarie and talking about an hour we left. Zsuzsa recommended some families where we can do uor work, they were her relatives.
Did I mean Zsuzsa is gipsy?
As she said, we visited her relatives and got filled 1-1 questionnaries. The answered the questions but they weren't so kind as Zsuzsa. After that we arrived back at the accomodation, and cooked some lunch. (We brought a lot of tin and "powder" food.)
In the afternoon we filled a questionnarie trough 2,5 hours with and old couple. They always started to talk about their life and exactly forgot why we were there. In the end we didn't asked the questions in the roght order because when they talked about something that linked to any of the questions, we asked that hoping they will answer fast and briefly.
At the evening we (all of the anthropologysts) were invited for dinner to a pub. Later our host arrived with a microphone and wanted us to sing karaoke. We agreed but we didn't think that will be the program for all night. When our throath gave up, we left and went to bed. That night I slept very well.

04. 16, Monday

About 11.00 am me and 3 of my friends arrived to the accomodation. We were the first ones, so we could chose a room. That was for 5 persons, but we were only 4 in that all of the week. We had an own bathroom so we were happy - we were naive.
Later others arrived and our teacher, Török Zsuzsa said many things about researches and questionnaries. Finally our task: have filled 5 questionnaries, make 2 genealogy interviews, one walk of life interview and our own research. When I got the questionnaries, I almost fall however I sat on the floor. There were some questions that I couldn't answer and I had to expect that the old people will understand it and will be able to answer. Just an example: "What kind of groups could you separate between gipsys?"
Our teacher went home, leaving us alone with horrible questions and with our not-existing experience.
Me and my roommates spent the afternoon with exploring the village. There is an ATM (I was really surprised), 2 shops (they weren't open before 6.30 am, between 11.30 am and 14.30 pm and after 19.00 pm) a library (there was a chance to use internet, but the local kids were always there) 3 pubs, and many gipsyes.
At the evening the owner of our accomodation arrived and brought some >házi pálinka< (self-made alcohol, that could kill a horse, I think). We needed that because among the hills it was very cold, and of course we didn't bring many warm clothes. With the &gtálinka< in our veins, it was endurable. The rooms were like freezes, there was no heating.
After 1-2 snifter of &gtálinka< our host wanted to show us the village (where can we got make interviews, where not etc.). We got in the car with a little fear, and we didn't go wrong. He went like crazy, taking the bends with extreme speed. We were really happy when we got back to our rooms in one piece. Wen we asked him about traffic rules he said: "The policeman is my friend. He use to go with 80." (The limit in villages and cityes is 50.)
Thinking back that day I believe only the &gtálinka< made us so brave to get into that car.

Next week I'll go to Krasznokvajda (don't try to pronounce it, you can't do ) because I have to do some research (I'm an antropologyst student). I won't be able to graduate if I don't do that...I "waited" it very much (to say the truth, I am not in tune for going there) I and I'll "enjoy" it (could you enjoy interviewing 60+ women and men about their life and family, and get know about the daugther of their grandma's sister and other relatives?).
Something about Krasznokvajda: it's in North-Borsod and it has a population about 524 persons (what a huge village isn't it?). I have to pay 1000 HUF/night for the accomodation (so I shouldn't expect comfort and cleanliness - I think I'll take some cutlery, towel, and soap to avoid a few illness (well, maybe that won't be so bad, but I can imagine that place...). Oh, have I mentioned I have to payed all the cost myself? That's nice, isn't it? I have to go there, or I won't graduate, but I have to pay it myself too. Of course the 1000 HUF contains only accomodation, the food isn't included. And I had to buy a dicthapone (17 000 HUF) and a memory card for my camera (6000 HUF). I have to spend there 6 nights, that's 6000 HUF.
After all, only one question: if somebody is very clever but poor, that won't graduate? That's all.
Maybe you're curious what the hell will I do there. Well, I will make interviews, will get questionnaire filled out and take photos in the house of unknown people (if they don't chase me away with a garden fork XD).
I promise when I return (if I return ) I'll write a narrative about my suffering.

It has a special atmosphere. There are old graves: some was made at the beginning of the 19th century. Many tombstones are broken and the engravings are worn out so I could read only parts of them. Unfortunately there wasn't many light so most of my photos are fuzzy but maybe I can help them with computer. A few of them I turned black and white - I think it can help with fuzziness and it emphasizes it's age as well.
