Surgery went really well. Sorry about that little disappearing act I did for about a month afterwards...whups.
Basically, I went to Cameron, TX on my church's Senior High WorkCamp ([link]) three weeks after surgery, so I guess you could say I'm recovering really well. Tomorrow, I go on Middle School WorkCamp...though we stay in Houston for that one.

So, I've been absent for a few weeks...for a handful of reasons...back pain, flu, pneumonia, more back pain, lack of internet, and doctor appointments...in that order.

The story is thus:
The Monday before Easter I went to Fronske Health Center to schedule an appointment for my back (it'd been hurting like Hell), that night I develop a nasty cough. Tuesday I go in (still coughing) and confirm my suspicion that the "doctors" there have no idea what they're talking about (I tell them it's my spine that's hurting, they tell me it's my muscles). They give me a muscle-relaxant to help me sleep (back pain had been keeping me awake for a while at that point), but I fall asleep as soon as I get back to the dorm due to exhaustion from lack of sleep (and being sick, now that I think about it). Wednesday morning I faint (twice) on my way back from the bathroom (a rather interesting experience, but not one I care to repeat) and my mother decides to fly up to Flagstaff that night. Thursday we go to an Orthopedic doctor and he takes X-Ray's of my back...then orders a CT-Scan when he notices that something's not right. Friday we go back to that doctor to see what the CT-Scan showed...Spondylolysis in three of my Lumbar vertebra (aka, I have 6 pars fractures in three vertebra). He says he's never seen anything quite like this (gee, I think I heard that my Freshman Year of High School when I was first told I had Spondylolysis in L3-L5). Mom and I then go to the dorm and start packing (rather she packs while I try to sleep on the bed...I was feeling like shit) since we've decided to go home. Friday she takes me to the local doc-in-the-box (as she calls it) because my cough hasn't gotten any better and I had a consistently high temperature. I'm told I have a version of the Flu that the shot doesn't cover (knowing my luck, it was probably the Swine Flu). Saturday she goes back to the dorm to finish packing things to ship home while I stay in bed at the hotel (again, I was feeling miserable). That night, after watching Ten Commandments (and commenting/ranting on the many differences between the movie and the Bible), she takes my temperature again and it's 104.5. After much complaining from my end and much fretting from my mother's, we finally wind up at the ER (I didn't want to move from the bed). They put one of those little monitoring thingies on my finger and hey, guess what! My Oxygen saturation is 84! I'm given Oxygen and taken back. A couple of chest X-Rays later, I'm told I have Pneumonia in my left lung. One breathing-treatment, two IV's, and a few hours later I'm back at the Hotel (it is now around 4:00 AM on Easter morning). We both sleep through Sunday. Monday we drive down to Phoenix, and Tuesday we fly back to Houston. Internet is down at home.
After a few days of downtime (while I recover from flu/pneumonia and regain my appetite) the doctor appointments start. The overwhelming opinion: Surgery. Therefore, on May 13 at approximately 10:30 AM, I will be undergoing a four-level Lumbar fusion (L3, L4, L5, and S1). Basically, I'll have four screws on either side of my spine connected by a rod. I will lose some mobility in my back (but I'll be damned if that stops me from doing things I love to do!), but it should stop the pain (which had been so bad that I was sitting in class wondering what the teacher was talking about because all I could concentrate on (even with ADHD meds) was how much my back was hurting). Needless to say, I withdrew from the semester.

So yeah. That's pretty much it. Oh, and on a random note, I did Locks of Love last Friday...

I went to my first real college party a few weeks ago. It was very fun! I discovered I'm not quite the lightweight I thought I'd be. However, the headache I had the next day was not fun.

Also, 29 days until my birthday!!!
But I don't anticipate any big celebrations, as I'm in college and not at home. Though my mom did mention something about celebrating my birthday over Spring Break when I'm home...Meh. I'm perfectly fine without all the hubub, it does get old.

So I have my last final tomorrow.
YAY! (Last one!)
At 7:30 AM.
BOO!
I mean really? 7:30?
There is no class that starts prior to 8:00, so why a 7:30 final!?
And my geology class doesn't start until 9:10, so why a 7:30 final!?
Heck, nothing really opens on campus until 7:00, and doesn't really get going until 7:30. So that means the dining hall won't have any decent food before I have to leave...and it's a 20 minute walk to the other end of campus.
Which leaves me ten minutes to eat, not that big of a deal...I can eat a full meal in under 5 (I scarf my food down like someone will take it...no clue why).

But 7:30! I don't wake up until 8:30 since my first class isn't until 9:10!
Even High School didn't start until 8:30. And they didn't make finals earlier than that.


All I can say is what the hell, NAU? WHAT THE HELL!?

So I have three essays to write..well really two, the third is Extra Credit. Anywho, I'm suppossed to get 3-5 pages out of each prompt. Uhm, not happening. I've already started on the harder one, and I'm nearly done...but I don't have even a full page. My Government/Economics teacher last year was surprised with how short my essays were, but she was even more surprised with how well I answered the prompt. This sucks. I can write the essays, but I can't get the three page minimum out of them. Curse my ability to completely answer most prompts in a few paragraphs.

I really should get back to work on those essays now...but for poops and giggles, here are the prompts.
1) Water quality issues in SW United States, Focus on Arizona.
-Reasons for water quality issues, lack of water, etc.
-Current estimates for water usage and what is the population of Flagstaff's need for water (annually) and how are we compensating for lack of water?
-What can you do (as an individual) to reduce your water usage? What are people doing in the SW to reduce their water usage?

2) Climate change, explain Pleistocene climate versus Holocene climate
-Reasons for climate change, what causes major climatic fluctuations? Etc.
-How much has the climate changed and what do the oceanic circulation currents tell us about the climate?
-How can we better understand the cyclic nature of climatic fluctuations?
-Impacts on society

Well, Cariad and Cante live together, so it would be more like inviting Bier. It's pretty uneventful. Elizabeth finds out and joins them (it's her house too). Then they eat and talk about everybody Bier has been trained by (which is everybody) and how odd it is that he has mastered every form of magic (summoning included) and meelee.

Nine [Drwg] tries to get Five [Zreti] to a strip club. What happens?
Drwg would do no such thing. Though he might go to the strip club.

You need to stay at a friend’s house for a night. Who do you choose, One [Blaidd] or Six [Kunzite]?
Blaidd. Nobody really knows where Kunzite and his family live.

Two [Peridot] and Seven [Elizabeth] are making out. Ten [Casus] walks in. How do they react?
Casus dies laughing. My head explodes.

Three [Cante] falls in love with Six [Kunzite]. Eight [Bier] is jealous. What happens?
My head explodes again.

Four [Cariad] jumps you in a dark alleyway. Who comes to your rescue: Ten [Casus], Two [Peridot], or Seven [Elizabeth]?
I would put Cariad in a dress, stopping her attack. But if for some odd reason I couldn't, they all would. Casus would get there first, but only so he can brag about saving a "damsel in distress"

One [Blaidd] decides to start a cooking show. Fifteen minutes later…:
The kitchen blows up and Cante is furious. Cariad just shakes her head.

Three [Cante] has to marry either Eight [Bier], Four [Cariad] or Nine [Casus]. Who do they choose?
He chooses Cariad...DUH!

Seven [Elizabeth] kidnaps Two [Peridot] and demands something from Five [Zreti] for Two’s [Peridot] release. What is it?
Why Elizabeth would kidnap her grandmother is beyond me. But she would demand scythe training from Zreti.

Everyone gangs up on Three [Cante]. What happens?
Cante teleports to the plateau and has Stardust take him somewhere.

Everyone is invited to Two [Peridot] and Ten’s [Casus] wedding, except for Eight [Bier]. How do they react?
Bier is very confused. Peridot already has a husband and Casus is too vain for his own good.

One [Blaidd] arrived late for Two [Peridot] and Ten’s [Casus] Wedding. What happens, and why were they late?
Blaidd shows up in his armor and lights Casus on fire. He was late because he was looking for his armor.

Why is Six [Kunzite] afraid of Seven [Elizabeth]?
Because Elizabeth has a really short temper when all her suitors are around. And she's Cante and Cariad's daughter, so she's pretty powerful.

Five [Zreti] and Six [Kunzite] get roaring drunk and end up at your house. What happens?
I laugh my ass off while my parents freak out. Then they pass out and I have to explain who they are and why they acted the way they did to my parents.

Nine [Drwg] murders Two’s [Peridot] best friend. What does Two [Peridot] do?
She is sad and angry, but doesn't retaliate. Zreti does that for her while Peridot uses Phoenix Down.

Six [Kunzite] and One [Blaidd] are in mortal danger. Does Six [Kunzite] save themselves or One [Blaidd]?
Kunzite brings them both to a different dimension before returning home. Or Blaidd casts Meteo. Most likely both.

Eight [Bier] and Three [Cante] go camping, but forgot to bring any food. What do they do?
Nothing. Bier can hunt very well.

Four [Cariad] is in a car crash and is critically injured. What does Nine [Drwg] do?
He teleports her to her house, then wonders why he did.

As many of you know, I have a distinct passion for the sciences. A few of you may know of my passion for art and creativity. Two different passions, both calling to be followed. But realistically, I can only follow one at a time, as far as college is concerned. Over the past few months, my artistic side has become louder and louder. And now she is screaming to be let out. At first I attributed this to having more time for creativity than I had in High School, but I’m beginning to wonder if she wouldn’t have started clawing her way out anyway.

Junior year is the year she first made herself known as a distinct passion instead of a passing interest. She didn’t compete with my scientific passion then, but she made herself known. At the end of Junior year, it was her influence that made me want to take Art again. And it was her that got me interested in digital media. My Wacom Tablet made her stronger, and that was when I realized that she had a firm grip on my passions. My art improved drastically with the acquisition of the Tablet, but she wanted more. I needed things to draw to go with my newly improved talent. Thus came the Figments. I believe my Creativity inserted herself into them, giving them a life of their own. Now I have a novel floating about in my head; a novel that is begging to become a comic.

This past semester I haven’t had my Tablet, but Creativity hasn’t let up. My artistic capabilities are expanding; now I am nearly confident in my ability to sketch with a pencil then ink it by hand. Not only am I please with my inking skills, I have found Prisma Coloured Pencils quite agreeable as well. I find myself wanting to write and draw more than I want to be on space.com or other similar websites. Granted, I still love learning, but it appears that my passion for science is no longer the stronger of the two passions. There is further proof of this. A few days ago I was asked what I want to do for a living, and I said write and draw without thinking. Last year my answer would have had something to do with being a geologist, specifically an astrogeologist. I already want to change my minor to art, but now I’m not sure if I want to swap my major/minor completely.

I think National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) has helped in solidifying my desire to write and draw more. I have a D in Chemistry, and my parents don’t like it. I have told my parents that I might forego NaNoWriMo this year in an effort to raise my grade, but in all honesty I know I can’t do that. I have told myself over and over again that Chemistry is more important than my novel, but every night I’m back on the computer writing another chapter. I have made myself skip nights of writing in an attempt to get too far behind in my wordcount, but then I will spend an entire weekend catching up and going over. Already I have over 2,000 words, three days ahead of schedule.

My thoughts keep drifting back to my characters even when I’m trying to study. Not long ago I was reading a chapter on Structural Geology, but every term presented itself as a potential name for my many unnamed characters. And of course, whenever I come across a potential name I have to stop and write it down. How am I supposed to study when my thoughts are so consumed by Creativity?

In short, I don’t know what to do. A part of me wants to continue on my current path of scientific knowledge; but a louder and more persistent part wants me to abandon that path and forge another within the realm of Art.

Okay. So I'm really pissed at NAU. No matter what I do, I can't get Internet. I'm even writing this on my iPod Touch.

I had this problem when I got here in august, but it was fixed...supposedly. Then last week I got a popup on my compy saying that my antivirus was not supported. That's a load of bull shit, as Kapersky is very much supported by NAU. So I called the techies and they set me up with temporary acess until they could fix their stupid little program. Then on Friday I got the same damn message. So I downloaded their damn Sophos antivirus in hopes of having Internet over the weekend. No such luck. I have every damn program they want and I still can't get internet.

I need Internet to check email, because if I don't reply to every damned email my parents send in a timely fashion they freak out and call me. And I'm not fond of talking to them for hours. What's more is that they won't let it count as their weekly call either, which means I have to talk to them more than once a week. I hate that.

I'm gonna go now before my browser decides to spontaneously close. :shakefist:

Blaidd: avoid the pool and sit on the patio (he's too modest to be seen in a bathing suit). His falcon would drive my cat nuts and scare my dog.
Kunzite: try to contain Zreti, give up, and sit in the spa.

2) How would you react if he/she suddenly appeared in your house?

They have mindspeak, and since Kunzite can fly, so they wouldn't get lost.

My parents wouldn't leave us alone. But I'd probably sit them in front of the TV and watch them gawk.

That would imply that Drwg and the Inquisitors were in my world...that'd be bad. Very bad.

You know what a really good series is? Well, if you couldn't guess by the title of this journal entry, then I suggest you read the title.

The AoF series will have 6 books out when complete; currently, there are three, with the fourth coming out in December.
The series is about the extinction of dragons, from the dragon's POV. The first three books focus on the plight of different hatchlings of the same nest (before and after their nest cave is raided and their parents killed), and it looks like they'll meet up in the fourth.

Dragon Champion: focuses on Auron, the champion of the Egg Shelf. He and his sister manage to survive the initial nest raid by getting to the surface, but then Auron gets captured to keep Wistala safe. DC details the difficulties Auron encounters as he fights for survival against nature and the Dragonblade without the advantage of scales.

Dragon Avenger: focuses on Wistala, Auron's surviving sister. After seeing the nest raid and Auron's sacrifice from her point of view, Wistala takes us towards the Wheel of Fire Dwarves. On her way, she comes across her father, AuRel, who barely survived the assult. Tala helps him recover, but before he is well enough to fly the Dragonblade finds them. AuRel and Tala put up a fight, but in the end, AuRel dies and Tala plummets over a waterfall with the Dragonblade's dogs. Luckily, a kindly Elf finds her and raises her from that point on. But her troubles have only just begun; she has to deal with an imperialistic Thane, the Dragonblade, and a travelling circus before she can avenge her family.

Dragon Outcast: focuses on The Copper, the crippled male who didn't win the egg-shelf. By failing to win the egg-shelf, The Copper is outcast from his family. After we see the raid on the nest cave from his point of view, The Copper takes us on an underground journey to find other dragons. Along the way, he picks up some bats whom he owes his life. He finds the dragons and is adopted for having killed some Demen. We follow him in the community of dragons as he struggles to make a name for himself with crippled leg, faulty firebladder, blind eye, and broken wing.

Dragon Strike: all I know thus far is that AuRon learns of Wistala's existance, and I only know that because a read the first chapter on the Age of Fire forums :paranoid:

I especially like how thought-out dragon anatomy and evolution is.

Mk! So I'm grounded from the computer for the rest of summer :shakefist: so that's my warning.
In other news, I just dumped a crapload of art (okay...so there's only 5 new ones) that I've been working on since late March. It's not done, but I can't exactly finish it without a computer can I? I am getting a new laptop at some point this summer (hopefully a MacBook Pro) since grandma gave me "A computer of your choice" as a graduation present. I'm also hoping that my groundedness from the computer won't apply to my new laptop...that's the only computer-oriented loophole I could find. The other loophole involves my iPOD Touch, but that's dependant on internet acess.

And as an aside, I graduated on Friday, May 30. So I no longer attend HCHS, which is really weird. I'm still not used to telling people that I live in AZ and attend NAU...but oh well, I will eventually.

Yeaaaah...

My laptop crashed the other day and needs to be reimaged. But that's not the bad news. The bad news is that when it gave me the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), my flash drive was in it. Ok, so that's not the bad news either. But when my PITA-POS gave me the BSOD and died, it took my flash drive with it. (Ok, fine, that's technically not bad news either.) Unfortunately, -ALL- my art was on said flash drive so I wouldn't overload the school network with my massive files.
[sidenote]
The school techies are also going to go through and delete all pictures, music, and video files on the H-drive and give each student (500 of us) a maximum of 500MB. That's nowhere near enough for all the shack we have to do!
[/sidenote]
Anyway, all of my art (except for what has already been posted) is now inaccessible, as I have yet to come across a computer that will recognize the damn flash-drive when I plug it into the USB. I know all the data is still there, I just can't get to it.
And what really hacks me off is that I was almost done coloring Zreti-wolf...all I had left was some minor shading and the BG...but now I have to go and re-trace her whole outline (and the outlines of countless others I had already traced) by-hand on my laptop's touchpad.:pissed: I swear I'm going to get tendonitis from this...

Aeon Wolves

Aurora- This wolf has a peaceful, calming effect when she is happy. When she is angry, she will virtually become an aurora. She can create an aurora by her own will. She has a seductive effect on all of the males, though not to the extent of Fertility.

Healing/Magic- Is most often found in companion with Wisdom. This wolf can heal others and knows how to use magic, however if Wisdom is not present to guide this wolf, he/she is more likely to become corrupt and use dark magic.

Wisdom- The wisest among the pack. Often found with Youth and/or Immortality. When a wolf with the mark of wisdom is in a pack; the pack will prosper and be at peace with neighboring rival packs

Fire- This wolf has a soothing, warm effect when they are happy; in this state the wolf is able to create a warm campfire. When this wolf becomes angry, heat will radiate off its body, & unless calmed down, its fur will change into fire effectively making this wolf a formidable & dangerous opponent. Generally quick to anger unless Wisdom is present.

Wind- Generally calm, but can create Katabolic Winds if provoked.

Snow- Nearly always female & is the calmest of the pack. If provoked, however, she can create Hail and Snow. When Wind & Snow or Ice mate, one pup is almost always Blizzard.

Blizzard- Very temperamental; often gets himself killed before fully mature. When angered, he can use both properties of his parents to inflict the most damage. He will often use Katabolic Winds to propel either hail, snow, or ice daggers at an opponent. He too has an ice-cold demeanor.

Lightening- Also temperamental; rarely makes it to maturity. When provoked, lightning is visible in his eyes, and his body becomes an electric conduit. When extremely angry, he can create any and all kinds of lightning. At his worst, he creates positive lightning from himself up into the atmosphere while he is "charging up" for an offense. When he is ready to strike, he directs the lightning with his mind to the desired target. He adjusts the amount of volts and amps according to how much damage he desires to inflict.

Thunder- Most often a sibling of Lightning. This wolf is the strongest physically & is often the Alpha. This wolf is always larger than average and is the only one with prominent bodily-markings. Always jet-black with brightly contrasting full-body markings.

Immortality- This wolf often lives up to 100 years. Can be paired with any other gift, but is most often found in Wisdom & Healing.

Youth- Can also be paired with any other gift. When in combination with Immortality, the combined gifts keep a wolf in his/her prime until 100 years old; often lives 150 years. Alone, a wolf with this gift can live about 50 years. In essence, this gift allows a wolf to remain in their prime for longer and live 50% longer. Symbol can be found anywhere on the body.

Impact- Often the son of Thunder. He will often leave the pack of his birth once he can fend for himself. Packs with a weak Alpha will often fight over him. Upon being absorbed by a pack, he will fully mature into Thunder.

Ice- A very good fighter/hunter whose breath can freeze what it touches, but only under his/her command. Always wins staring contests with his/her icy stare, can literally glare daggers at you. Often gives others the “cold shoulder” and is the least emotional of the pack; to the point that only the Alpha (Thunder), Wisdom, and the Alpha’s mate can tell when he/she is in an emotional flux. Often Thunder’s closest sibling.

Water- Very calm, fluidly graceful, and grandmotherly. When this wolf runs, it appears as if they are flowing. Is most often female. She is very cool and collected, and is the most level-headed. When she gets angry, her fur appears to liquefy; the angrier she gets, the more visibly turbulent she appears.

Earth- the single most “down-to-earth” wolf in the pack. If you ask for his/her opinion, he/she will give it to you as it is, without sugarcoating it. They are often best friends with Water. When angered, they will appear to have dust and pebbles flying off of them before the one she is angry at realizes that the ground is beginning to split underneath them. When more than one is in a pack, they can combine abilities to form a large-scale earthquake.

Fertility- The most flirtatious of the pack. She very rarely is an alpha, although she often has pups of her own with several different fathers. The reason I fell off the face of the earth is that my parents blocked acess to ALL of my blogs...so I was unable to even check them until my compy broke & got reimaged...and break it did!
