Isn't it funny how you can be exhausted and euphoric at the same time? I think any new mother can understand what I mean. And of course, when I have NO time I start coming up with all kinds of ideas for new artwork and products. Hello everyone,

This is Symian32x, Wren's friend, and I'm writing here to let you all know that Wren was hospitalized early this morning with pre-eclampsia, a condition which, at her term of pregnancy, means that she'll be having her baby very soon (likely tomorrow). She'll be fine, it's a fairly common complication, but of course it is scary for her and for all of us, and I'm certain she would appreciate your prayers and well-wishes.

She being the trooper she is, Wren asked me even as the morphine brought her to sleep to make certain to mention to all of her friends and customers who purchased her various services or products to please give her some time before she can recover and return to her normal schedule. I tried to assure her that it wouldn't be a problem, of course we would all understand, but her steadily sleep-driven voice was just too bittersweet-cute to refuse.

Hubby and I and the parents went to Babies R US last Sunday and with their help we managed to get a pretty good nursery setup. There's still some things we need but I think we are prepared for Day 1. It's hard to believe that in about 45 days I'll have a little baby! Annnnyyway, I wanted to share: We chose a nursery theme! It's sorta an 'african safari' theme, and we got the Zanzibar set from Kidsline! Here it is:

*Squeal* It's so cute. There's still alot of accessories I want to get: the wall hangings, the toy chest, the lamp, etc, but I've got the crib set and wallpaper and valance! I'm getting excited and nesting has kicked in. I'm cleaning like a madwoman and ..well..I CANT WAIT! Hehehe.

I also wanted to give an update on all the people who won prints from me! The majority of them have been mailed but I ran out of the un-bendable photomailers and the post office didn't have more. I'm ashamed to admit it: I gave in.

I reinstalled World of Warcraft. Thats right, I made it about five months but for a number of reasons I felt intensly curious and against my better judgement stuck those CD's in.

I know that there has been a rise in 3-d stock issues recently, however in the article posted by :dev$realitysquad: it says quite clearly:
-The acceptable form of 3D stock is one in which you, the submitting artist, has personally posed, textured and rendered the model or scene in question. This involves the purchase of a program capable of handling and rendering figures, models and textures or the use of an open source program capable of the same feats. Regardless of the program used the image was actually rendered in real time using your computer at your command.-

And I know Mark owned Poser, and DazStudio, and did his own renders...so I'm confused! Was this what happened, or was it something else entirely?

Anyway, I just wanted to say, Mark, if you read this, we'll miss you!

You don't need to give me the score for each judging point, just the total. I'll be entering these into an excel spreadsheet to tally results.

About The Categories:

Theme- The theme of the contest is Equine Dreams. The interpretation of this is left very wide open. It can be anything from fantasy unicorns, to horse beasts, to scences from the artists dreams, to nightmare horses, scifi horses, etc etc. A normal horse in a normal setting would not be the best theme fit, whereas a unicorn in a dream/fantasy setting would be a better fit.

Creativity- This is not only creativity based on the theme, but creativity in the art itself. Did the artist use an interesting technique? Did they do something that you think is unique? Did they use an interesting pose or expression to add flavor to the artwork?

Effort-I want to make it VERY clear in this category that this contest was open to many different types of artists. I do NOT want to see any piece being rated below another because of the style/software used. A good photomanipulation or 3d piece can take just as much effort as a good digital paint. Please base your effort score on the piece itself, not by comparing it against other pieces. Effort would include all the little details like: Are there shadows in the right place? Are the reflections in the water? Do things blend? Is the anatomy done well? If the horse is flying is there movement in the mane? Things like that. This is the 'technical' aspect of the piece.

Appeal- This is the most 'opinionated' of all the scores. This is were you as the judge look at the piece and say what you think. If you saw a thumbnail of this piece while browsing how likely are you to click on it? A low appeal score would be if you were likely to skip over it without a fullview. A high appeal score is if you'd think about hanging the piece on your wall or showing it to friends.

'The Second Annual Equine Dreams Contest' Rules:

1) For the Digital Art your submission can be Digital Painting, 3D, or Photomanipulation, or any combination of the above.

2) For the Traditional Art category your submission can be painting of any type, lineart, pencil, coloring, inked, etc. Photography is not accepted. You may do sculpture, but please provide some 'work in progress pictures' for it.

3) For the literature category your piece can be poetry or a short story. Please keep the story to under 7 pages.

4) Remember, the theme of this contest is 'Equine Dreams'. Your submission must be 'Fantasy, High-Fantasy, Dark, Gothic, Sci-fi or 'Cute Fantasy' Themed. I don't want a drawing of a plain horse. I don't want paintings of a rider in a show ring going over jumps.

5) Your sumbission must include a horse, some sort of fantasy horse, a horse-creature combination, or some sort of equine. Your submission can contain whatever else you'd like in addition to the horse. (Additional stock resources may be used if desired. You MUST give proper credit to the stock used and follow all the stockers rules- This WILL be checked.)

6) Artistic nudity is allowed, but no sexual acts between characters. (Additional stock resources for photomanipulators may be used if desired. You MUST give proper credit to the stock used and follow all the stockers rules- This WILL be checked.)

7) Will be judged on creativity, effort, and appeal (eye-candy!).

8) Two entries per contestant, total. You can enter in various categories.

9) This must be your own work, and it must be NEW for this contest only. You MUST send me a note with a link to the deviation.

10) You must state in the arist comments that your piece is for the 'Equine Dreams' contest by me and provide my icon. Please put your entry as 'critique not desired'.

11) Entries will be accepted starting on Dec 13th. DO NOT post your entry prior to that date. The contest closes Feburary 14th. No late entries will be accepted.

12) I am NOT a judge. If you have any additional questions or want to toss an idea by me you are welcome to do so.

13) Be a good sport. I reserve the right to deny anyone entry to the contest before or after they have submitted their entry if they are a bad sport about the contest. EVERYONE who enters will walk away with some sort of participation prize.

Well, it's been 2 weeks for me now on DA. Two weeks since I started doing manips. Still having so much fun. Thanks for all your support! Comments written on some of my pieces are not 'showing' so please don't feel bad if I don't respond to them.

My husband and I, and our puppy, went to my parents house for Christmas. We spent the night, opened gifts the next day had a huge meal, and my husband and I went downstairs to pack up to leave, and I was so sleepy that I layed down on the airmatress my parents had put out for us. My husband, who is the 'always serious' sort, suprised me by laying down next to me, then bouncing up and down so I went flying all around on the mattress. I don't think we've ever laughed so hard. Of course, this got the attention of the puppy who joined in on the game. Maybe it seems silly, but those 10 minutes were better then all the gifts a food!

What was your best moment this Christmas?

Oh, and as far as gifts, I got a 20 inch lcd flat screen monitor (along with alot of nice other things, including some beautiful pearl earrings) from my parents, and some great music, candles, movies, and Buffy season 2 from the hubby! Yeah, I'm so spoiled. :blush:

You know whats really scary? Art thieves. I was reading on the forums about a Deviant who had his art ripped from the site and used for an album cover (for a really sucky band, nonetheless). This has caused me to go back through and embed watermarks in all my pieces and to right an ugly copyright notice on them. Sucks, doesn't it?

Anyway, I'm hoping to have a productive week. I'm hoping to have my fourth manip peice out tomorrow, it's getting a bit easier now that I'm getting the hand of all the tools of Photoshop. I've got so many ideas swimming through my head that I had trouble sleeping last night. Of course, maybe that has to do with the fact that it was a freaking 70degrees in my house last night...in the middle of winter...and no, I didn't have the heat on. The weather has been super freaky here.

I've got so much more respect now for the people who do this for a living, its not easy!

Out of curiosity I did a random search on Sephiroth...and oooOOOOOOO *howl*...talk about alot of Sephy fans out there. All this Sexy-Sephy stuff is going to make my brain explode!

Going to see Eragon tomorrow. Hope it's good. Will be nice to see the daylight again after a day holed-up with PS.

My husband keeps telling me that practice makes perfect, and if he's right maybe one day you'll get to see some of my digital art, which is really where I want to go! Just have to figure out the whole photoshop thing first. I can't tell you how much seeing everyone's incredible work on DA has inspired me.
