So those of you who occasionally frequent my page have probably noticed that I've been having Pyrtuma visiting some of the classic game worlds of the NES/SNES/N64. In part, I am doing this because I've been fighting a bit of a mental block lately (and the other part is that I'm being lazy about doing anything much more time consuming).

So, as Pyrtuma and I continue to travel through the various game worlds, please feel free to throw your suggestions/recommendations into the hat. As long as it falls into the "classic NES" game category, then I'll do my best to make it a reality for one of my future pictures...

At least until Pyrtuma grows bored with these endeavors and decides to go an alternate route. Silly, tiefling!

Being both tired and hungry after a long day of work (hell, it's been a long couple weeks), I figured that I'd make an old favorite for dessert as I work on dinner. Here's another recipe that I originally got from Biquick (love that product) and bastardized to suit my own tastes. Thought that I'd share in case anyone is ever looking for a good recipe for cinnamon streusel coffee cake...

Coffee Cake Ingredients
2 cups Original Bisquick
2/3 cup milk
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 egg

Streusel Topping Ingredients
1/2 cup Original Bisquick
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons firm margarine or butter

Cooking Directions
1) Heat oven to 375 degrees. Grease round pan (9 x 1.5 inches).
2) Stir bisquick, milk, cinnamon, sugar, and egg together until blended. Spread mixture in pan.
3) Make streusel topping by mixing bisquick and brown sugar. Cut in margarine/butter using a fork or pastry blender, until mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle on top of coffee cake mixture.
4) Bake 18 to 22 minutes (or until golden brown).
5) Enjoy!

Since I mentioned making chili in my last journal entry, it seemed like a good idea to share my recipe with my friends here at DA. The original recipe came from a Bisquick cookbook that I've had for a few years. However, I've modified the recipe to taste several times over the years. The ingredients and directions below are my own interpretation:

Chili Ingredients
2 pounds ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
1 large green pepper, chopped
1 can (~15 oz.) whole kernal corn, drained
1 can (~15 oz.) red kidney beans, drained
1 can (~14.5 oz.) stewed tomatoes, undrained
1 can (~16 oz.) tomato sauce
1 packet chili seasoning
1 bottle beer

Dumpling Ingredients
2 cups Original Bisquick
1 cup cornmeal
1 cup milk
3-4 tablespoonfuls of cilantro and or parsley

Cooking Directions
1) Cook beef and onion in large pot over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until beef is brown; drain.
2) Add chopped green pepper, corn, kidney beans, tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder/seasoning, and beer into beef mixture (Note: If not using a bottle of beer, add about 1-2 cups water for moisture.)
3) Heat mixture to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes.
4) Mix Bisquick and cornmeal thoroughly. Stir in milk and cilantro/parsley.
5) After chili has simmered for 15 minutes, heat chili to boiling. Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls onto chili; reduce heat to low. Cook dumplings uncovered for 10 minutes. Cover and cook about 15 minutes longer or until dumplings are dry.
6) Enjoy!

Well, last night was the first time in a very long time that I had the opportunity to get together with some friends and play some D&D. It was a pretty basic hack & slash battle against an orc outpost (which was blocking a major trade route between towns), but it was great just to get some friends together for a few hours and catch up on things.

I made a large batch of my chili with cornbread dumplings, through together some notes to run the adventure, and then sat down with everyone as fun ensued. I don't know if I'll be making dinner for everyone everytime they come over. However, if it takes a good meal to bring good friends together, then it is a small sacrifice that I am willing to make...

My mother called me yesterday at work to notify me that my uncle had passed away late Wednesday night...

It didn't come as a surprise, since he had been sick with cancer for the past several months. He spent a large part of his life drinking and smoking, which caused him to have tumorous growths riddled throughout his body (brain, liver, pancrease, bones, etc.). In fact, when my uncle was diagnosed last November, the doctor didn't predict that he would survive past December. It was a miracle that the chemotherapy and radiation reduced the growths enough that he exceeded his expectancy an additional four months.

However, my uncle's condition grew worse over the last few weeks. He lost a lot of weight and his health quickly deteriorated. It was depressing to see this 6'4" man (who weighed close to 300 lbs) wither away. I am very sad to have lost this man from my life, but he is truly in a better place now.

God bless you, Jim! We will miss you very much...
