So I'm kinda off-and-on with the art, but my muse has, for the most part, returned. Life is just mega-busy with my approaching move to places distant. I'll post 'em as I got 'em!

If ya haven't noticed, the arts are a bit on hold. Life is all kinds of hectic - being in transition as it is - and is littered with intense frustrations at certain people. My muse has gotten bored and wandered off. While I have hundreds of ideas, I have little motivation, confidence, or time to commit them to paper. When the giant, evil stress-monster is conquered, this will change. Until then, I thank the people who leave me comments, stop by, give me inspiration, support me, and remind me how life can be so much fun.

What's New:
I updated Torin & Kage's info page (see link in footer.) I also deleted many of my older works, and moved the Inu-Yasha comics to Scraps, and gave them a Creative Commons license. My gallery needed a bit of cleaning, and will probably be cleaned out more soon.

Otherwise, my life right now consists of job, errands, Harry Potter (I'm on the fourth book!), video-gaming, writing, sketching, and (hopefully soon) painting. AND ABOVE ALL AVENMORE!

A big show is coming up, lots of great bands will be there, and the merch will (hopefully!) be unveiled! I'm counting down the days... >:3

Life = busy. Two Jobs + sharing a car + trying to have a life = exhaustion. Free time = sleep.

I went to Blissfest last weekend, and while it was awesome and worth all the time and effort, it wasn't a restful vacation. I haven't been drawing so much lately, but I'm trying to get back into it. My boys, Torin and Kage, are also going to take a bit of a vacation. I feel like I'm rehashing the same story events in my mind so much that it's making me crazy. They'll probably pop up every now and then, but for now, they need a break.

Also, my #1 favorite band, FrontSide, has undergone some major changes! They are now known as Avenmore, and they have new songs (which are amazing!), a new EP (w00t!), and some new merchandise (coming soon!) Go take a look at the new t-shirt designs, and you can see what I've been working on lately. ;D (I'll have stuff to post concerning those in the near future.) While you're there, be sure to listen to their new tracks! I'm not exaggerating or sucking up when I say that they blew me away. So go. Now. GO.

I have two jobs now, both of which will be getting busier soon (hotels, yo.) So, it's hard to say how much time I'll have on my hands, but I will be making time for artsyness. I have some t-shirts I'm going to paint random things upon, some sewing projects, some blank canvasses + paint, and a handful of ideas which just need to be committed to paper of some kind. And that FrontSide digital painting is almost done! SO CLOSE!!

Otherwise, I'm still addicted to Guitar Hero and Devil May Cry, I plink around on my keyboard now and then, and run around outside like a hooligan when the weather is nice. And I still have to leave some time to see FrontSide play.

BUSY DAYS, MAN!

Okay... I have something serious to discuss. I've just learned that I have a disease, and I'm trying my best to cope... Here's some information about it:

Ospedstultustia, or ÂFoot-In-Mouth DiseaseÂ (FIMD) is a condition which affects many people in all parts of the world. It's normally known to be more common among males, especially those undergoing puberty or midlife crises; although, contrary to popular belief, it can be equally as common among women. FIMD has a lengthy list of symptoms, including chronic feelings of awkwardness and loss of vocabulary, and can be potentially fatal in certain social situations. It's not proven to be contagious, but scientists still haven't found a cure. Some people with FIMD find that alcohol, when taken in large enough quantities, alleviates the symptoms; however, this method can have undesirable side-effects. It's recommended that you check with your doctor, loved ones, coworkers, acquaintances, and pets before starting treatment.

Okay, I didn't have that much art to post this time, but I have a good excuse, I promise.

STORY TIME AGAIN! (I will attempt to make this brief, though so much crap has happened.)

Last weekend, I went downstate for a concert. FrontSide was playing, and I'd made plans with ~MarkusAurilius to go to the show. The show, of course was awesome, FrontSide rocked the place, and the other five bands did as well (each in their own way... ahem.) The night was made even more interesting when people kept starting a random mosh pit in the middle of the room. I got bowled over once, and still have the faded reminder of a very large and colorful bruise on my shin, a lovely souvenir of the night.

(I'm actually not being sarcastic, I'm kinda proud of it.)

Anyway, dear Markus and I hung out with Galen, Matt, Nick, and Inochi (you're all awesome guys, thanks for a kick-ass evening.) By the beginning of the last band's set, there had been plenty of time for those who wished to get drunk. One of these souls was unfortunate enough to get nailed by one of the moshers, got pissed, and the mosher ended up getting maced. I don't know if there was anyone in the room that didn't cough at least once the rest of the night. I just drank lots of water.

The frontman for the final band (Only The Ashes Remain, I believe) was irate, by the way. He was not happy at all with the people who were fighting, and told them so. Loudly.

After that, Markus and I started home. Long story short, we ended up in the ditch. We didn't get extracted by the tow truck until 1:30am. I got a total of 2.5 hours of sleep that night. The next night, I got pulled into the fun of being with Markus' mom (who is awesome) and brother (dude, you're awesome too, much love, faux snow!

) Of course, it didn't take much for my already shaky good mood to crash. Got about 6 hours of sleep that night. The next morning, we hauled ass back North so I could go to orientation for my new job, and after that, the Christmas party for my other job. Orientation was okay. The party was hell 90% of the time. I felt like shit and didn't want to be there. It got better toward the end, though, no worries.

From that point 'till pretty much now, I've been trying to catch up my my sleep (never happened) and trying not to keel over from stress. The other day, I finally got sick. Lack of sleep took out my immune system, I guess. May I just say, head colds suck royally. At least I have today off...?

Blargh.

Anyhoo, that's been my life the past week or so. I like my new job. Colds don't last forever. Things will get better. At least, I refuse to think otherwise.

New junk is up, go see!

One scribble in the gallery. I was going to post a silly little drabble, but I'm having format issues.

Small edit: FrontSide now has its own category in the gallery. Since all the photo-referenced stuff I had was of them, I figured, "oh, why the hell not?" They can have their own spot. If I do any other photo-ref stuff, I'll just make a new category. :3

A note on my goofy boys, Torin and Kage:
I've been playing with the idea of creating a small alternate universe for them in which Kage is a lycanthrope (as he was in his previous universe). I've actually laid out a small, basic plot, and since I can see an ending for this story, whereas their main story is, in ways, never-ending, I'm considering scribbling out a short manga for this alternate universe. (I've already started page roughs... heh heh) Anyhoo, if it interests ye, check back. More news there will be!

...Now, I'm going to address a question that it's pretty likely a lot of people couldn't give a rat's ass about, but which I feel a need to explain. Hopefully, this will serve a purpose more than just to make myself feel better.

The question: Âwhy did you choose to draw a gay couple?Â has been asked of me a couple of times, but I haven't had a decent reply to offer so far. Truth be told, the possibility that most people don't ask, but make assumptions instead, bothers me more than actually being asked. So, if you could care less about my reasons, you can stop reading here; but remember, you'll have no excuse for judging me based on false assumptions. Remember children, to assume makes an ass out of u and me.

Q: 'Why the gay guys?'

To be honest, these two ended up together one day a few years back when I decided to randomly throw together two original (male) characters and see what happened. To make a long story short, I grew so attached to them as a couple that their original storylines were tossed aside, and a story of their own began to unfold. Over time, the two of them have come to mean much more to me than two pretty gay guys, and represent various things I encounter and struggle with in my own life.

Q: 'What do Torin and Kage represent?'

Torin, in essence, is the embodiment of the person I wish I was, and want to be. Why can't he be female? That, I don't know. I do know that I've tried to make that work and it just doesn't. He simply can't be any other way than the way he is.

Kage, in contrast, is a basic representation of the qualities in myself I dislike. There's a lot of him that's unique to his character, partly because of how his relationship with Torin works, but also because if he were the embodiment of everything I dislike about myself, he would have no redeeming qualities. He'd be 100% bona fide bastard.

Their story and their relationship, I've realized, revolves around a central theme: redemption and triumph over personal demons. Torin is, in a certain way, Kage's savior. Not only does Torin keep Kage from his self-destruction, but eventually helps him see the world and himself in a better way. You could call it a happy ending, but I see it more as the achievement of balance and harmony.

So there it is. If necessary, I'll add to this, and maybe add it to Torin and Kage's info page. Otherwise, I'm outta here for now. Peace!

I did post up another Torin/Kage a while ago, but didn't mention it here... I'm trying not to spam the journal space too much (sort of).

If I seem somewhat less on-speed as I have lately, it's because I'm lacking in energy. Lots o' hours working. But hey, get 'em while you can, right?

Bought InnerPartySystem's album, and have hardly listened to much else since. I need to change living locations before I go bat-shit insane. My new haircut looks like Ada Wong's circa Resident Evil 2. I wanna see Rocky Horror Picture Show on Halloween. It's 75 degrees outside in October?! OMGWTF?! Life is... interesting, and not very predictable. Viva variety? Viva life. Viva La Vie Boheme! End transmission.

I've started to play Resident Evil 2. LOVE. LOVELOVELOVE. BUT. I realized, too late, that I can't save my game due to lack of PS1 memory card.

So, my PS2 has been running for about two days straight while I try to get my hands on one. The coworker who lent me the game became suddenly and violently ill, so I can't even ask to borrow one, and the only place in town that sells the things is fresh out. [Sigh] I might have to restart my game. I'm not all that far, and besides, I'm thinking of making Zombified Brad Vickers appear for extra coolness...

I've been in a findnewmusicNOW mood lately. Hence Pandora Radio... They play Mindless Self Indulgence on the local radio now!

I've been fixated on "Don't Stop" by InnerPartySystem as well. I may even buy the album... I think my recent fixation on FrontSide is partially to blame... I hate the fact that I missed out on seeing them live. I didn't even know about the band until a couple of days before they moved a hundred miles away... Poo on you, karma.

Well, until they play another show up here (they said they would at some point), I'm going to be plotting a road trip downstate...

Alrighty! There are two new posts, and I've reorganized my gallery a bit. A lot of things which were previously in the Featured section are now not, so look 'em up via Browse or the appropriate category. I've also added scraps to some of the sub-galleries (example: Torin & Kage scraps can now be found in the Torin and Kage Art section too, not just in the scrapbook.)

The Torin/Kage piece I was working on had hours of progress devoured and then spit back at me in the form of "Photoshop 7 has unexpectedly quit," so it's going to take even longer, since now I'm annoyed...

Thanks to the inspiration provided by the latest issue of ImagineFX, there'll probably be more stuff like the unfinished Matt painting coming from my direction.

I'm in that "I wanna learn/experiment/improve" mode. It's good to be back.

I feel a little like I've been creatively asleep for almost the past two years...

I had a gigantic and utterly profound pre-written entry to post, but decided against it. Short and sweet (and silly) is the method du jour!

I have a Torin/Kage piece in the works, I just haven't quite decided how I'm going to mangle it in Photoshop yet.

I've been absent from my creative tools more than I'd like lately, and the internet even longer than that. Free time's a bit more scarce lately...

I am now a multi-department employee. I am a Breakfast Room/Housekeeping/Front Desk... person. Someone called me a "Jaqueline of all trades" today.

Most of the time, I love the work (despite how much of it I have) and I think I'll love my next paycheck even more. >:3 Moo-ha-ha? (Let's hope I don't get slammed by that nasty flu/cold/misery bug going around.)

I've gotten my hands on the Requiem for a Dream & Pi box set, and also Mysterious Skin. Even though I saw the latter fairly recently when I borrowed it from the library, I've been dying to watch it again. Hopefully, tonight will be my chance to do so (NO TIME, GAH!) But hey, I have tomorrow and (I think) Tuesday off - "Time off? What's that?" - so I can relax a bit. ^_^

Oh dearest devART, how I have missed thee...

Such is the misery that is not having internet access at home. Gee, guess I'll have to grin and bear it...

But hey, I don't need a subscription now to view thumbnails in my devWatch... thingy. Thank you devART! You make my empty pockets bearable!

I come bearing more Torin/Kage... stuff! I have who-the-hell-knows-how-many unfinished things in line, as well. (Animations, even! Ooh! Ahh! Hopefully I'll finish them before I turn eighty...) Work is keeping me busy, but every other waking moment is spent being creative! ...Except when I'm cranky, then my waking moments are spent shooting some Ganados or kicking Olcadan's cocky feathered ass, or running myself ragged via Guitar Hero or DDR... (I love you, PS2. You relieve my stress.) ...But I digress.

Also, the last time I was here, I glanced at some of my older posted works... Eh heh heh, wow... the descriptions are... idiocy. So please take note of the posting date before taking note of the grammar (or lack thereof?) I feel terrible having that tripe up, as much as I complain about other people's refusal to speak (or type) their native language coherently... See, kids? Improvement is possible!

As a side note: I finished Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay. The TV show (Dexter) follows it until around the middle, then they become two completely different storylines. Good book, though - I recommend.

Here is some basic information on my two fictional characters, Torin and Kage. In the future, I hope to have a website dedicated to this story, most likely told through a combination of written word, manga, and images (perhaps even animation, we'll see.) It is still very much under construction, but I have not (and will not) drop it.

THE BEGINNING OF THE STORY:

It begins in a small town in the northeastern US, in a public high school. The senior class is buzzing with excitement in their last year of high school; all, that is, except Kage Kirkwood. He keeps to himself, staying distant from his classmates. Most of the school has given up on him. After all, who wants to be around someone who only speaks to say something rude?
A new student arrives at the beginning of the year, a friendly, good-humored boy named Torin Zalman. He notices Kage right away, and decides to make it his mission to make the sullen boy lighten up. It becomes a fight to win Kage's trust, overcoming belligerent football players, the views of their peers, expectations of their small-town society, and most of all- their own personal demons.

Tends to wear rather nondescript, darker neutral colors and clothing which covers a lot of skin. Is interested in alternative-style clothing, but doesn't want to stand out too much.

~Personality: Seems self-possessed, quiet, reserved. Can be charismatic, but is very good at scaring (or pissing) people off with biting sarcasm and half-veiled insults. Distrustful, perfectionistic, slightly neurotic. Angry and disgusted, especially with himself. Self-destructive at times. Lonely, but denies it. His trust is hard-won, but once earned, he is very loyal. Around Torin, he's more able to be himself, so appears more awkward and easily embarrassed.

I am the kind of person who despises having to censor herself when it is unnecessary, and I want this to be a place I am comfortable speaking out and speaking to the other artists here. I want to be able to be myself without having to worry about someone using it against me somehow. Since I still don't have my personal website up, this is where I direct people who are interested in seeing my art.

Now, I have something to ask of you, the visitor to my deviantART page.

I ask you to refrain from jumping to conclusions concerning my personality, state of mind, or anything else based on what I create or say. I do not appreciate receiving comments which have, in all honesty, absolutely no constructive or positive value concerning my art or any personal matter I may allude to.

Now, since this semi-rant has mostly been brought about by the behavior of those who know me personally, this request applies not only here, but in any contact with me. It's far easier to ignore a belligerent stranger than a snide comment from someone close to you.

Now, that said, on to devART-related bits.

And Now, the Actual Update!

I've been spending more time with my drawing tools lately, so, with any luck, I'll have something new to post in the near future.

I've been bouncing back and forth between Resident Evil 4 fanstuffs involving Leon and Ashley (yes, I ship, hold your fire) and my original characters Torin and Kage.

~Notes on Torin and Kage:
Torin is the boy from this character sheet: -Old- OC Character Sheet

Kage is this character here, though he's changed a bit since then.... techniques

Torin and Kage were previously part of separate universes, but after putting them together as a bit of a joke, I liked the idea so much that they are now together in their own little universe. :3 They are both male, and they are a couple, so shonen-ai is on the horizon (and my desk, but we'll see how much of that stuff makes it to devART....)

As a bit of a side note; Since Kimi-Rane is now missing half her storyline (in the form of Torin), I might end up with a new character and perhaps some shojo-ai.

I figure I'll make a slightly more personal post here since mah LiveJournal is mostly friends only, and there's a sliver of a chance that someone here will give a crap about my life.

Besides, I'm sure y'all are sick of me posting about my never-ending inspiration block.

Basically, I'm trying to find a job to pay off lots and lots of debt, as well as help pay the bills and buy food and all that boring stuff. Some of this debt is college-related, some is thanks to my most recently ex'ed boyfriend. Here's what I have to say about that (and him):

I'm hoping to get back to college one day, but if it's the one I went to last time, it won't be for some time because I left before the end of the semester, and as such, didn't finish all the projects. Basically, if I'm not on academic probation already, I soon will be. My wonderful professors gave me plenty of second chances and extensions, but.... What can I say...? My motivation to draw is totally shot.

So I think I've officially given up on finishing those projects and making the money I paid worthwhile.

I have very little in the way of friendship at the moment, so, those of you who know where to reach me, this is my official invitation to do so. I can't say too much more about that here, since there might be people lurking who don't need to know stuff like that. >_>

As far as my inspiration block, like I said, I haven't drawn much at all for a long time. However, I've started to spend time on brainstorming again, which is leading to ideas for my Resident Evil 4 fanfiction, which I'm hoping will lead to more inspiration and motivation, and hopefully, that will someday lead to me drawing again. Little steps, I guess....

Otherwise, most of my time these days is spent on Gaia Online (username Aelis Mikilai) and my LiveJournal (which, again, I don't want to mention because of ebil spies.) When I'm not online, I'm usually playing Resident Evil 4. Want proof of my lack of social life? I've played probably three whole RE4 games the last week or two. I'm on my eighth consecutive 'Normal Mode' game. (To anyone who hasn't played RE4, a short game is about 14 hours long) Please, god, let me find a job or.... just shoot me. Put me out of my misery. Please. D':

Oh, the good ol' days, when I had inspiration galore...

I'm thinking about also uploading some of my sketches, but many will probably be going into scraps.

I might finally be getting through my four-month (maybe longer) artist's block. I'm going to force myself to get back in the groove, even if I have to temporarily turn into a night owl to get it done (some of my best ideas come when I stay up until the wee hours of the morning.) Hopefully, you'll be seeing more from me in the near future.

So, if any of you have a muse you lend me for a while, it would be much appreciated.

Synopsis on life since the last journal entry:

Personal (or should I say 'interpersonal'....?) problems and a slight resurgence of depressive tendancies, as well as the fact that I was behind in all my classes caused me to leave Detroit on pretty much a whim because I didn't feel safe being with just myself anymore. I applied for, and finally got (I think) incompletes for my classes so I don't fail them. The only catch is that I have to finish the projects I had to do for that semester over this next semester period. I have yet to start.

I moved in with a high school friend of mine (now boyfriend) and his family, and am still there. I have to say I like it here a lot better than I would were I living with my mom again....

Anyways, since I moved, I've been in one hell of an art slump, I've only drawn maybe four pictures since moving. however, I'm hoping that getting on board with some Gaia Online avatar edits will help get me back into creative mode. We'll see.

On the upside, I've been working on my Leon/Ashley fanfic-ish stuff, so perhaps I haven't completely burned out....

I posted my Christmas list (work in progress) and a rant on my inability to do homework in a timely manner on my LiveJournal, if anybody cares. For those who don't care enough or are too lazy to visit the LJ, here's a synopsis:

College = SHOOT ME

On second thought, I feel like ranting about it some more, so here I go....

I have been up ALL DAY and ALL NIGHT doing nothing but SCHOOLWORK. I got up and went to the college early so I could research what I couldn't research Friday (because I was stupid and forgot the hours of the library.) I got a bunch of info, but couldn't print any of it, so I saved it all on my pen drive, and once I got home, I STILL couldn't print it, because by the time I was ready to, my Uncle was asleep, and I didn't want the printer to wake him up. After going to my one class (yeah, just one class today), for which the teacher thankfully didn't ask to see our progress on our projects (because I haven't started it yet, and oh, it's due what, tomorrow now? I am so fucked), I got on the bus, which nearly crashed into an idiot in an SUV, and came home (after buying caffeinated beverages at Meijer.) I worked from about 11pm (which isn't long after I got home) until about an hour ago (5am) and got ONE THING DONE. Well, I suppose it was more than one thing, but I only worked on one project, which is due today, and I do not have it even close to finished. I cut the mats for and did one drawing/painting in a series of 8. ONE. Out of EIGHT. Not to mention I haven't started something that was due last week for that same class. Good thing I can make that one up....

Also due today are sketches for a project I also haven't started on (another class.) Therefore, I am thoroughly angry and upset and utterly pissed the fuck off because I've worked so hard today and gotten nearly nothing done. I really need to learn how to work FASTER. I could get into a rant on how today's world is so fast and convenient, it's making the human being obsolete, but I doubt anybody would care, and I don't feel like thinking about it right now anyways.
Well, since I'm pretty much fucked no matter what I do now, I'm going to occupy myself with some more Yuri Manga before I have to ready myself for a day of explaining to my professor's why I don't have anything done. I'm afraid that Chris is going to be awfully bored when he comes over this weekend, because I'm going to be veeeeeery busy. XP

However, it is somewhat amusing to watch this little "rant" mood icon do its crazy little thing.....

I've also somewhat rekindled my recently pushed aside infatuation with the Leon S. Kennedy/Ashley Graham pairing from Resident Evil 4.... If I ever get the time, I want to resume work on my fanfic..... maybe even illustrate it a bit!

Yeah, school's kickin' me bum.... I'm a bit behind, but oh well. I'll deal. I'm going to have yet another ill-advised late night tonight, since I have so much to do, but it won't be an all-nighter... I'm too tired for that.

~Write a review for the Annie Leibovitz American Music show at the museum
~Paint a saturation scale
~Do more preliminary work for the seven sins project in my Figure Illustration class
~Make thumbnails for my urban landscape project (which I learned today we can totally make up, YAY!)
~WORK ON MY DAMN BIRDHOUSE

Aaaaand I think that's all for now..... All I'll likely do tonight is the Leibovitz review, since that needs to be done for tomorrow. Most of that other stuff will prolly have to wait until Friday.

Well, I should really go write that review thing now.... I'm wasting time here....
