Looking back, I'd say my year was a pretty good one. I had gotten to a lot of drawings that had been left unexplored for too long. I made quite a bit of progress with my Photoshop/Illustrator skills. And I'm still meeting a lot of good people here at DeviantArt. :)

I have always loved Christmas, since I was a little boy. But I NEVER thought I'd be one trying to avoid it, if only until the actual holiday comes up. It seems more and more, retail has been celebrating Christmas earlier into the year, making Halloween a secondary and in most cases ignoring Thanksgiving altogether. This is because I'm dealing with stuff in the real world. A large part of it involves seeking a new job, one related to what I spent six years in college studying; urban and graphic design. The problem being that the job market sucks. I have been pitching resumes wherever I can and going to all kinds of job fairs. Thanks to 90s Nick, I've been re-exploring the Nicktoon, Hey Arnold! It became my new favorite Nicktoon after I got sick of Rugrats, and it still stands as one of the best ever.

The Christmas festivities have already begun, with still only a week until Thanksgiving. Many places have brought in the Christmas cheer even before Halloween came.

Still doesn't make it any less ridiculous. WalMart and Target got all their Christmas stuff up. One of my local radio stations have been playing Christmas tunes NON-STOP for the past week and a half. A few neighbors already have their Christmas lights up.

I love Christmas. It's my favorite freaking holiday ever. There are plenty of foods I do like that have cheese. Pizza is one, but it would need a topping. Cheeseburgers with enough ketchup, mustard, pickles, etc. to mute the cheese flavor are acceptable. Homemade mac-and-cheese is fine. And some snacks like Cheetos, Cheez-Its, and Doritos are enjoyable.

Then there are the cheese foods I don't like. Cheese popcorn, cheese danishes, Ritz crackers with cheese, nachos with cheese, and chili cheese dogs are among them. I went to dinner with family and friends yesterday, and I got some cool gifts too: Volume 1 of the Spice and Wolf manga, and Clarrisa Explains it All Season 1 DVD. I also got a cool new T-shirt and some $ whilst I continue with the job hunt.

Today, I spent more time with family, and later attended a community forum for Buffalo's waterfront while getting birthday wishes all day. It was a wonderful day! :)

Contrary to the DreamWorks-flavored ads, a lot of what were seen in the trailers are NOT in the film. It's a shame when a studio has a lie to find an audience, especially when there is nothing to hide.

My only slight problem was with Flynn Rider. It's a given that Disney takes creative liberties with the source material. And hey, maybe they were trying to make the prince-to-be more modernly relatable than his predecessors. But the movie lost a bit of subtlety by having him narrate the exposition. Her time in this world was unfairly short. Her career was in a lull in her final days, suspect in part to her marriage to Simon Monjack. Her last few movies have received very little attention. She had trouble securing several movie deals before she died. And she was the first main cast member of King of the Hill to pass away, only three months after its series finale. :cry:

Well, those days are long gone. The Disney Channel today has become an all-tween network, and aside from a pre-school series, Mickey and company had been practically banned from the channel for years.

I've been unemployed and mostly broke for the past two years, largely because of my Grad school studies. Since graduating, I've been submitting resumes and contacting dozens of businesses over the past month or so. No progress as of this writing.

The stimulus package from last year has shown very little results. Unemployment is at the 9% mark. I would, however like to believe that things are looking better than the Bush years, if McCain/Palin were in charge.

I guess the upside to not having a job just yet is that it's giving me time to figure out where my starting point will be. I have several major paths to ch ]]>
