Well, I'm finally taking a formal art class. We haven't done a whole lot yet, mostly just sketches for homework (studies, so far we've done plants, animals, and town/city life). Although I did do my first abstract piece... Definitely not my strongest point. I have been slowly (VERY VERY SLOWLY) getting back into the endless cycle of school, homework, and crazy band rehearsals/competitions/football games/nerve-racking auditions. Although I am very excited, because tomorrow I get to leave rehearsal an hour early and take part in Dr. Tim Lautzenheimer's Leadership seminar!! You may or may not have heard of him, I never had before attending the same seminar last year. It really changed the way I think and boosted my self-confidence, so I'm eager to find out what other qualities I can bring out of myself. :)

By the way, commissions are still open, although I highly doubt that anyone would be interested. I've got loads of dA crap to finish up in the meantime. Hopefully I'll be getting a job this winter... I really need money so I can save up for college tuition, buying my own car, and living on my own. God, I feel so old! Only two years left until I leave the nest. Wish me luck. :omg:

Anyways, I just got back from a wonderful vacation on Tybee Island (which is near Savannah, GA for those of you who haven't heard of it, which is probably most people), where we spent almost full days on the beach enjoying the ocean and the warm weather. Unfortunately, on our last full day there, we went over to the back beach area, which is called Tybee Creek, and I got stung pretty bad by a jellyfish. It felt like I was being stabbed, and it got me in three places along my legs. Plus I felt it bump up against me right as the pain kicked in. I had one huge red splotch on my right thigh, and then two smaller red splotches on my left thigh and my right ankle with a little dotted pattern where the barbs went in. For the first few hours or so, they were swollen, puffy, and stinging, and it felt kind of like the areas they were on were going numb. But by the time I went to bed, they weren't swollen anymore and stung only when something touched them. I still have the red marks, which are now fading, thank goodness. Every day we had gone to the beach, at least one of us got mildly stung on one or more occasions. I almost didn't go the last day because I was afraid of getting stung again... And look what happened. :noes: But whatevs, I still loved being there.

One of the great opportunities I had during our stay was taking a tour of the SCAD campus-- the Savannah College of Art and Design. And I just have to say, what an amazing place it is! It's spread throughout the city of Savannah, and the facilities are, for the most part, fairly new, despite their placement in the city's restored buildings. They've got lots of technology and equipment for the students to use-- and guess what? They have CINTIQS!!!! :la: They've got around four different Cintiq labs, each of which has at least 20 computers with cintiq screens. It's soooo cool!!!

But most importantly, of course, I learned a lot about the college programs itself. The thing that got me the most was their view of how students discover their talents-- they make everything as open-ended as possible, so any student can take any class they want to help them figure out what field they want to go in to. It made me realize that, despite all the trouble I've been having with art over the past few months or so, I really do want to be an artist. And I think I can be, if I can ever figure out what my problem is. While I was gone, I didn't have a computer available, so I had no access to deviantArt. Something changed-- suddenly I found myself actually wanting to draw, and I had a spurt of inspiration that made me start thinking I could actually make something worthwhile. At first I wasn't sure where it came from, but I think it may have been due to my absence here on dA. Because almost as soon as I got back here, I once again found myself losing any inspiration I had, and thinking that my and my developing style wasn't good enough to be shown to anybody. So in order to get myself moving again, I've decided to take a little hiatus- a break from deviantArt, just until I can find a foothold in my confusing world. I'll still pop on occasionally to check messages for anything important or make a few comments here and there, and (of course!!) I'll keep up with any commissions or other such art I need to finish, but for the most part I'll be keeping myself away from here. I think it will help, and I'm hoping it does.

On a more serious note, I've FINALLY started drawing again. Mostly dragons, since I'm pretty tired of furry canines at the moment. You should be seeing something new in the next day or so, assuming I can finish it. But then... After that..... Let's see, I've got like three sketches I need to finish. That part's easy. Then there's coloring. That's a whole different story. :cry: I don't know how to color!!!!! I mean I can do fur pretty well, but when it comes to big, smooth areas or scales I just don't know what to do!! ;; And sadly, I could move on and color everything digitally like I've always wanted, but I just can't seem to figure it out. I don't know what it is. I just... start coloring, and it looks good for a while, but I leave and come back and I realize it doesn't look as good as I thought it did. The only pictures I've actually finished look like the coloring is partially transparent. I'm trying to achieve the look of oil paints, which are thicker and therefore not transparent-looking. I don't know how!! D:
So I guess I'll just have to keep trying, until I get it right.... Which could take quite some time. :[ I'll have to stick to traditional for now...

Oh well.

Until then, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE commission me!!! I need the money, my parents can't pay for any of my needs anymore. (Besides food and shelter, of course.) And I need to start saving up for a car, college tuition, and college textbooks. Although I am only paying for half of my tuition, it's still a lot! Help me out here ;;

And, even better, I've been a deviant for almost a year now. So I've decided to officially open commissions. I probably won't get any for a long time, but hopefully somebody will have the money and the generosity to commission me eventually. I've got a list of prices, although I'm not sure if they're appropriate or not for my skill level. Here they are:

So... I feel bad that I can't get more time into drawing, I've been really busy lately... I got my report card, and I didn't make the honor roll, so this quarter I have to try and bring my grades up. Stupid 82.94%... :noes: Anyways, I'm working on something that's been taking me a lot more time than I'd hoped. Right now I'm preparing to make it into lineart, hopefully it won't look as bad as my last picture. Since it's probably going to take me even longer, I borrowed my grandparent's scanner again and will be posting some sketches and things I've done over the past few weeks. I even have two linearts I can finish. :3 So yeah.

Sorry guys. I haven't drawn anything in like... 2 weeks... ^^; I just kinda lost inspiration, I guess. I've still got to finish up that trade, and lord knows what else I've forgotten about... It's been really hard for me to draw anything, especially coloring. It just doesn't seem right... I don't know. I think I'm going to be jumping around for quite some time before I can actually find my style. So much for settling down.

Hehe, I think the only reason I remembered to come on today is because I have a Bamboo tablet... I got it yesterday for my 16th birthday. I've been trying to draw something, and I had it almost finished when the program I was using (some free program called Artweaver) messed up and said it couldn't find the file. Apparently, it doesn't exist. :| So I get to start over, yay.

Digital is a lot harder than I though it would be... I have trouble making clean lineart, but maybe it's just me. Plus it takes me forever to get anything done. Hopefully I'll be able to upload something today... I feel bad leaving everyone hanging.

Wow, a whole month spent away from here...

I could have gotten it waaay back on October 5th, but no, my mom wanted me to wait until after I finished Driver's Ed, so I couldn't take it until now. I got really lucky, because I just barely passed it. You can't miss any of the first 10 questions (which I didn't) and you can miss up to 5 of the second half, which has 25 questions. I missed all 5. [link] You guys might not agree with me on how absolutely amazing it is, but ~xxMenudoxx has been my friend for quite some time and just started an account recently. And she's already got a great sense of movement and muscle detail, in addition to shading in general! Please take a look at the rest of her gallery (it's small, don't worry =P) and encourage her! :D

Hey hey, so I just got back from a rockin' awesome 3-day ski trip! We went to Seven Springs up in Pennsylvania, which is absolutely filled with slopes and trails. ~xxMenudoxx came along with me (and another friend who you don't know), and we had SO much fun! 8D The only problem was the ice... There was so much of it that it made even the easiest slopes dangerous. O__O The worst patches of ice we saw were on a super-steep blue slope (should have been a black!), and all three of us fell. It was painful, but very funny to see us fall. XD By the way, for those of you who have never been skiing, slopes marked by a sign with a green dot are the easiest, blue slopes are a little harder (there are lots of them, so they vary in difficulty), black diamonds are super-hard, and double black diamonds are pretty much suicide. owo

Guess what I discovered the other day? One of my favorite pair of boots has a crack in the sole. It goes about halfway across, and it exposes the stuff underneath it. :[ Why me?

I'm still trying to finish up the last two sketch requests... It's not going too well since I have so much other work to do. My to-do list is kinda full now...

We went down to visit my grandparents, and my uncle from the other side of the family (my dad's brother) came along with us. We had a reasonable amount of food for dinner, although I barely ate any of it... I did have turkey and stuffing, but I just didn't feel much like eating. And then there was the pie. Oh my goodness, the pie. There were about 7 pies, most of which were pumpkin and pecan. Then there was a chocolate-caramel cheesecake, and one extremely delicious and popular Chess pie (like a cream pie, but more condensed) that my brother made. I've never eaten a better pie in my life. :drool:

So how were your Thanksgivings? :D

Haha, well, my experiment certainly succeeded. And by that, I mean commissions. I knowingly opened them far too early, guessing that I wouldn't get commissioned at all. And lookie there, I was right! XD I just wanted to see what people's reactions were, and they were as expected. I didn't really want to open commissions anyways, because I wouldn't have enough time to work on them. I know I said I needed money for a scanner, but I decided to get it as a Christmas present. (My little pile of gifts is going to be even smaller this year... ) Christmas is only a month away anyways, I'm sure I can deal with the camera just a little bit longer. ^^

So commissions are officially closed, not to open for quite some time. I need a lot more practice, and commissions weren't exactly the best way to go. So I've decided to open free sketch requests! :D I've got 5 slots, and I'll draw anything- except humans, of course. ^^; I still haven't quite gotten up the courage to draw them.

By the way, these sketches may or may not be fully detailed and shaded, depending on how much time I have in the next week or so of working on them. I used to be awesome at black and white, so let's see if I kept that skill or not. ;)

Sorry for being gone so long. But hey, I finally decided to join track. I won't be fat now! And we have practice until 4:30 every day. Also, the coach told us that we will have practice over Thanksgiving break! But since I'm leaving, as they expected most of us to be, I just get a workout sheet and have to make sure I exercise. (It's been two full weeks of track now, nobody wants to have all that work be for nothing.)

And concerning art, I have definitely developed a style now. I was thinking about making a collage of sketches I've been dong during school, which will include some linearts I plan to color. You should definitely be able to spot my style. XD

Also, I started doodling chibis a while ago, and I think I've got it. So expect to see a few of those soon. ;)



So I need money for a scanner (I need one desperately! The last three deviations don't look anything like they should!), and I don't have time for a job or anything, so... I'm trying out a commission or two. ^^; I know it seems very early for this, but I'd just like to try it out.

Commission prices:
Sketch, fully shaded- $4
Chibi, fully colored- $5, $3 for every additional character
Crayola colored pencil, fully colored- $9, $4 for every additional character
Koh-I-Noor colored pencil (better quality, but fewer colors)- $10, $5 for every additional character

NOTE: I can draw both dragons and wolves for any category except chibi- I haven't figured out dragon chibis yet.

That's a lot... But I do need practice, and I think these fairly cheap. Please commission me! I would love to draw your character(s), and you'd be helping the quality of my deviations. (And I could finally color some lineart digitally!) ^^

So yeah.
It seems that my real life friends are getting tired of my art. :\ I was drawing during class today, and my friend was talking to me. She stopped at one point, and I told her I was still listening. Then she said that she can't stand it when the people she's talking to aren't looking at her. I saw nothing wrong with that, and stopped drawing. Near the end of class, I picked up my pencil and paper again so I could put it away. But my friend thought I was going to start drawing again, so she put on her 'angry' face and made a whining noise. I said I was just putting it away, and she instantly brightened up. ._.

I mean, it's not like I draw all the time. I only do it in classes where I'm bored, or I don't feel like talking. I don't see why my friend has to talk to me all the time. I see her every day for at least 5 hours. (She is in most of my classes and both of my lunches.) I don't know if it's because she's just really talkative, and needs people to look like they're paying absolute attention, or if she is really just bothered by me drawing. She's commented several times on my ability to draw, saying that she wants to steal my art skills from me. (She's joking, of course) But I don't know... I don't see anything wrong with being an artist.


...Sorry guys, I didn't mean to depress you with my troubles. So on a happier note, I am in an oddly good mood today. :D My face, with which I have had acne problems (all because of genetics and my dad), is FINALLY starting to clear up, after about 5 months of treatment. No, not dermatology or surgery, just by using Proactiv (which gave me a kick start, then stopped working) and other various products. Hopefully, it will all be gone by Christmas. (Or earlier XD)
Also, I get my permit this week! I can take the test anytime, but Saturday I have a band competition (last one of the year, thank GOD), and the DMV is closed Sunday, so I'll probably go on Tuesday afternoon. I'm so excited! :lol:
Ooh, and one more thing: The election's over! No more campaign ads! No more debates interrupting other shows! No more creepy pictures of the candidates! (Look here: [link] )

So this guy asked me to Homecoming... But I don't like him. Not even as a friend. He's kind of annoying, although not as much as my "date" last year. (I thought we were going as friends, but it turned out he liked me and actually was asking me out. :bleh: Last year sucked...) Everyone is like, "Oh, you should go with him! That'd be so sweet!" But I realized today that not only do I not like this guy, I don't want to be asked out at all. Even if it was the guy I actually have a crush on. I know I sound weird, but I want to see what Homecoming is like when you're not anchored to a date. I think it will be much more enjoyable. On top of that, I don't even want to be in a relationship. At all. I love being single! It means you can flirt more. ;)

So Homecoming's in a week, and I don't have a date. Yay! :dance:(I still have to tell the poor guy no, though. I'm going to feel bad, but I do not want it to be a pity date or anything.)

Hmm... Does anybody think I should open cheap commissions? I only say that because: A. I want to have more options (people can commish for drawing a vision in their head or something, not just a character of theirs), and B. Commissions are different from requests/trades... I feel like it's something I could spend more time on, because it's not optional if someone's going to pay you.

Like I said, they would be cheap, because I have very little experience and I am not very good yet. Sure, I've done some pretty good things, but I don't have a specific style I can stick with, and I still have a lot of trouble with anatomy. I was thinking maybe $4 for a lineart commish, and $6 for a fully colored picture. What do you guys think?


One more thing: I did fully draw and color a really amazingly awesome picture that I am VERY proud of, but... It was for English class- a symbolic picture we had to do for an assignment- and my teacher hasn't given it back yet! O___O I really hope I can at least get a picture of it soon, because I really want to show it to people... :( I will post it as soon as I can, I promise!

Why do I ask? It's because I'm entering (well, thinking of entering) our county's Reflections program, and that's the theme. I'm brain dead for ideas, so help would be lovely. :3

Okay, my chemistry teacher is officially insane. She was teaching us about something to do with converting measurements, but instead of using actual units, she made up her own. Here's how it went:
1 smurgle= 3 blobs
2 blobs= 7 gouns
4 gouns= 9 mlips

My first reaction was WTF?! Then, when she started reading it aloud, I just cracked up because the way way said it was HILARIOUS with her accent! XD You kinda had to be there... but yeah.

And thank you all for your sympathy on my last journal, it made me very happy. I will not forget, but I am putting it to the back of my mind for now. she still has a while before she is truly gone...

I hate my schedule... I have Block first and second period(AP History combined with Honors English), french third, chemistry fourth, band fifth (no so bad unless I'm in marching band rehearsals after school), gym sixth, and geometry last.

Hehe, truthfully, I think the main reason I'm not minding marching band so much is because of multiple glances from a certain person... :roll: So I was wondering if you guys (literally you men) could help me out a little here... When you constantly see a guy glancing in your direction but you can't tell if they're staring at you or someone else, you really don't know who he's staring at, right? But if deliberately has locked eyes with you two or more times recently, does that mean he really HAS been staring at you? I know I'm probably just being (very very) paranoid, but I was just wondering... ^^; (PLEASE help! :| I don't want to be left pondering!)
Anyways... I have not had much time to draw recently, so I'm only one-third done with coloring Lakota... And I have to do homework (outlinig four whole chapters and analyzing two passages and summarizing three and a half things O__O) for the summer, which I am NOT looking forward to... :dead: I really need to start on that, it takes me a whole week to outline a chaapter and I only have two weeks left until school starts!! :fear: Wish me luck... (not that I need it, I know I won't finish. :crying: )
Oh yah, and my pink eye went away! :dance: AND I was not supposed to be able to wear contacts until Wednesday because I thought I didn't have anymore and had to order them in the mail, BUT it turned out I still had a pair that was unopened! :iconexcitedplz: So now I can wear them on Monday and stop looking like some crazy glasses-wearing blind freak! They started going bloodshot in the middle of the morning rehearsal (around 11:00 or so), and they have only gotten worse as the day passed. I got a ride home from a friend of mine, who I didn't see for most of the day, and she thought I had just been crying cuz my eyes were so red. X__X I REALLY hope don't have pink eye, cuz then I can't wear contacts and I hate wearing my glasses during band camp. DX The worst part is,
it started out as only one bloodshot eye, then both went red... If it had been only one, I would have worn only one contact. But no, it HAS to be both... :cries: So yeah, I won't be doing any art for a while. Especially cuz band camps only going to get harder from here on out.
OMG It's ridiculous, we usually start out with three days of reviewing fundamentals so we get really good, and then we start laying down our drill spots, which is where we're supposed to march to in different pars of the show. And usually have a specific order for the warm-up block, so it's easier to get in order for warm-ups. But NO, this year the new and teacher has to change almost everything, so we started laying out the show TODAY, after only 4 1/2 hours of fundamentals!! And then we don't even have sectionals anymore, (although we might), but even if we do they won't be the same people! Also, today was the first day I looked at the music, and they made us memorize it already! They give us much longer for that normally!! So who cares if we've already laid down almost a third of the first momvement?! Who cares if we're struggling to memorize music AND march at the same time?! And after not reviewing, I'm really rusty and can't keep my balance too well or even remember half the stuff!!! NYAAAAAA!!!! :rage:

Gah, that felt good to get off my chest... Sorry guys. ^^; *sigh* Meh, I need to eat before I go to sleep... DX Bye for a while.

What's this? I have a style?! :confused: Alright, here's my story.
Last night I stayed up 'till 3:00 drawing a picture for my flute teacher. It was a picture of her dog Kuku that had passed away last year. :tearful: I was originally going to draw it the way I used to, where I put a graph on both the photo and the paper, but after I got the graph on the photo, I forgot about it for a month. ^^; I decided to draw her last night, and for some weird reason, I decided to draw it freestyle instead of with a graph. (YESSSSSS! XD) The sketch was a little hard, but once I started inking it, I don't know what got into me! I normally just outline the outside fur and some of the features, but instead I started making these lines of fur everywhere! She's a shaggy dog, so it looked okay, but I never would have done that normally. :O_o: After inking, I thought, "how on earth am I going to color this the way I want to? The lines are everywhere..." Then, I picked up my colored pencils (black, white and gray, cuz it's a b&w picture) and just started drawing. It was almost involuntary, like I was just placing my hand over someone else's and feeling them draw. When I finished, I sat there in awe for a few minutes at what I (I?) had done. I shook out of it, and made Kuku an angel standing on a cloud. Than I went to sleep...

So yeah. I'll upload the picture today, if my mom ever stops telling me to get off the computer. :noes: The reason I think it's my new style is because it just came so naturally to me. If I can figure out how to do it in color (maybe you guys can help, iono :hmm:), then I will have a new style of drawing fur. :) If not, well... ugh. :X I don't like the style of fur I'm doing on Akari very much, because it took me forever just to get the tail done. I must confess, I am sort of copying other people's styles by drawing fur that way, which is why it seems unnatural to me. I think this style may be it...

Or not. I just don't know. :nirvana:

Yesterday, we went to Savannah to look at the shops and tour around and stuff. I got a new pair of sunglasses (my last ones broke :() and my grandmother and I found an art store, where I got these super cool chalk pens in different colors, a light gray brush pen, a micron 005 pen in black, and a graphite pencil that is light gray, instead of a dark gray color like normal pencils. I also got a new (smaller!!!) sketchbook, because my other ones are way too big, and two pads of cool colored paper- in black, green, yellow, etc. :)
And one last thing- a big thank-you to everyone out there, because I have 400 PAGEVIEWS!!! :boogie: :dance:

XD It would be awesome to find a nicely sized emerald... :O But that's pretty rare, so I won't hope for anything too green. :) So yeah... I won't be back until August 2nd or later, but there might be a computer because my mom and dad both have to work. It didn't go over too well, and I ended up almost ruining the picture by erasing. In the end, I decided to keep the cat but make it a head only, so it looks unnatural. Then I stayed up until 3am (!! Ruining my schedule! :O ) drawing the deviation I have up now. and, four days later, I'm still not done. Although I'm plenty busy enough! I'm petsitting for THREE different people: a set of 2 kitties, and two sets of a cat and some fish. Thankfully they're all nearby! Ooh, maybe I'll have enough moolah afterwards to buy a scanner! Then I don't have to use a crappy camera anymore! XD XD I hope... Oh, gotta go now, or I'll miss lunch. For anybody reading this, plz help me decide what order I should put my old pictures in!
