I've recently got hold of a Zorki 4K... that's a Russian camera from 1974... the rangefinder and FULLY manual controls is really helping me think about every individual photo I take.

there's no: see - shoot - look at LCD - shoot again - look at LCD - shoot yet again

It's more like: see - imagine photo - set aperture - choose exposure - set shutter speed - look in view finder - compose - focus (this is tough!) - wait for that perfect moment - shoot - move film one frame forward.

... every frame is precious!

still need to develop the first test film I took... we'll see how it turns out.

... and the reaction on the face of people as I take this heavy, old, film camera out of it's leather case!!! ... priceless!!

Thursday's at Veccja are great as always, with a massive influx of people

Friday at Bridge Bar was a bit strange, good atmosphere and nice people, but had something strange, and the sound wasn't that good

Exiles - nothing much to say about it (not much culture there!)

Bryan Adams' concert was great... although I only knew something like 4 songs... but still I enjoyed it.

as I do every year, I had my movie-marathon on cinema day, watched 3 movies from 13:35-20:00, rushing from one cinema-hall to the other!

Finished The Picture of Dorian Gray. It was a bit boring at times, and don't quite agree with Wilde's philosophy, but somehow made me want to finish it all... the best way to express this feeling is in the words of Dorian Gray himself: "I didn't say I liked it... I said it fascinated me. There's a great difference".

movie
had cinema day full of movies (Oceans13, fantastic 4 Silver Surfer, Shrek the third), and didn't watch any movies this month, except for re-watching "the league of extraordinary gentlemen", which is quite disappointing, but had forgotten the whole plot.

music
currently listening to Placebo Meds and 2 chillout/lounge cds: a cd titled Abstract Jazz Lounge and another Secret Affairs... all 3 are quite good.

On the 2nd I was invited for the opening night for the exhibition by Jason Lu (check him out [link]) at Goth, Sliema... Some really great pieces of art I must say, and he's really cool and friendly... with the typical Chinese bow to tell you thanks!!!

Saturday 9th opened our summer season at Pink Panther, Gianpula... heqq, Ryan's was empty!

On the 28th there's the Brian Adams concert... i'd better get some cds... as I don't know any of his songs!!

book
Finished reading 1984, and I must say that it's one of the best books I've ever read... not saying anything about the plot so as not to ruin anything for anyone, but George Orwell did a really great job with this one!

now started reading "Gulliver's Travels" and "The Picture of Dorian Gray"... and will soon go back to "Lord of the Rings".

movie
Went back some years and re-watched Tim Burton's a Nightmare before Christmas and Corpse bride... really like both of these movies and was in the mood for some fantasy-horror.

Discovered this french band - Aaron, and their latest album "Artificial Animals Riding On Neverland" is really good... depressing sometimes, but really good.

And to relax you can get "City Lounge Volume 3"... not as good as Volume 1, in my opinion, (I don't have volume 2) but there are some good songs nonetheless... and good to chill.

conclusion
to conclude... if you want to listen to some good jazz (Charles City, Joe Debono, Simpson) with a cool crowd... you should hop to Veccja, Xemxija on Thursdays... I'm there most of the time.

Anyways... it seems that this journal is turning out into a blog :S

I've printed some photos using www.photobox.co.uk... got the prints today... the quality and service are superb!! submitted the photos on Monday at 15:50... at 16:50 they were ready and dispatched... received them today, thursday. Really happy with this site... you should give it a try, and new subscribers get 30 free prints... just pay for shipping which is rather inexpensive... will definitely print again from there.

movie
I've watched a really cool movie this week... Pan's Labyrinth (original title: El Laberinto del Fauno)... it's a Spanish movie with subtitles, but after the first couple of minutes it just comes natural to read... it was described as "a fairy tale for adults"... it is R rated, because some violence scene are really graphical... go read some reviews about it, and if you watch/have watched it tell me what you think!!

This week i'm listening to the sound track from the new Spider-Man movie... it's pretty good and indie/alternative... The killers, snow patrol, jet... and many more... really worth a listen!

finally the photos I've been taking throughout these last couple of months are online.

this was quite a big project, which took way too much time!!
not all photos are there, and it seems that each section has a couple of photos which load randomly (refreshing each section might reveal more photos!)

overall i'm quite satisfied with the photos (although they could obviously be better)... and seeing them used throughout a website is really cool!

anyways... back to work, on thesis and work (for money!)
hopefully i'll upload some new stuff soon... if i find some time for that!
