A great and certainly eventful Yule /Winter Solstice.

We went to Arbor Low stone circle up in the Derbyshire Peak District National Park (our nearest stone circle), to watch the sunrise into Yule. Once off the A515 the track roads are covered in thick snow. We got as far as 10 metres onto the track road towards the farm, my car would not get up the slope. So we got out, dressed into our cloaks and left the car there. It was a good mile up the hill and down to the track that then went upto the farm (in which the stone circle is situated). Twas a good 'ol trek, lol (especially through the knee-high snow drifts upto the actual site. But it was wonderful, very beautiful with all the snow. There were only Thaly, me and another lady up there (hardcore Pagans ftw!).
Getting back down was interesting, as workmen were clearing the tracks with my car in the way, lol. They helped us get the car back down the track.

Back at home there's naff-all snow, kinda disappointing after that great morning.

Thaly got me an 'Owl experience' (where you get to handle/fly owls at a falconry centre) as a Yule prezzie.

I've been inspired lately to do some sort of seasonal pictures for people, call it seasonal silliness if you like.
The idea: draw characters kissing under mistletoe (most definately not my norm, disturbing yes?). These will be coloured headshots of two characters beneath a bunch of mistletoe (no background)

I've had a bizarre couple of days, that most definately lean towards my morbid and macabre side.

True i am watching the tv series Kingdom Hospital and reading the book i bought today 'Ritual Sacrifice, Blood and redempton' (it's about sacrificial practices around the world throughout the ages). I'm always interested in that kind of weirdness.

But yesterday we spent time in the company of a dear friend as his brother committed suicide yesterday morning (jumped in front of an articulated asda truck on the A52). My friend is really shook up, so we're keeping him company and running errands for him.
Which is more than i can say for some so called 'friends' that acted as complete fucktards on Facebook with nasty bull-shitting comments. But that's another story.

I hate seeing my friend in this state, but i have my best wishes and hopes with him.

It's been one of those days...when you wonder what's going to happen next.

Started out ok until we set out in the car for my physiotherapist's appointment. Went early 'cos traffic sucks in the area we needed to drive through at that time, but as soon as i started the car and reversed out...clunk, and the expensive sounding metal clunk. I shrugged it off, as did i with the loose clutch pedal. 500 yards down the road... clunk, and the clutch lost more resistance. Another 500 yards and as i was turning into the road that goes past the Rolls Royce aero engine plant, i lost the clutch pedal and ability to change gears. My exact words... oh fuck! Managed to stay in 3rd gear until i could pull over (next to the engine test facility).

A string of obcenities later and i've enough composure to phone my Dad (auto-savvy petrol-head who works for a auto-spare retail group). My assuptions are confirmed by Dad. He arranges for me to leave the car at the fleet mechanics whilst i call my breakdown recovery agent.
35 minutes later and the car is being hoisted up to the back of the recovery truck.
The blokes at the fleet mechanics know me by now (car/s have been there a few time, out of favours for my Dad, lol.

So the car needs a new clutch - that bit's easy (and cheap - yay for getting parts at cost prices!) but it's gonna cost Â£140 for the blokes to replace it in labour costs, and they can't do it 'till wednesday! So no car till then. But we've got a photo-shoot thing to do tomorrow and long hours at work doing stock-take, ugh! I've spent hours today ringing round trying to get a rental car or van (could't borrow my dad's tank-of-a-mercedes, but not that i'd be happy driving it).

Now we should be getting a van tomorrow morning until tuesday. But now i'm in some agonising pain with my crappy dislocated knees and damaged hip. Gah!

An interlude whilst i'm working on sketches and my anthro lizard project.

1) How you thought of their name.
Morganiss - She once was a human girl called Morgan, who died and became a dragon - I just added the ÂissÂ.
Caoin Murdoch - My fascination with Gaelic words and names, Caoin means ÂlamentÂ, she was named by her dying mother only minutes after birth. Murdoch is her Scottish family surname.
Fraoch - Again with the Gaelic/Celtic names. The name means ÂheatherÂ and I originally saw it on a bottle of Scottish heather ale thatÂs called ÂFraochÂ. I was wanting to draw a Pictish/celtic purple dragoness.
Fyreroth CrimsonTalon - A rather predictable name for a half-dragon half-demon that has fiery origins, I often give my daemon/demon chars a ÂothÂ or ÂathÂ ending to their names.
Kazan - Possibly a combination of names IÂd seen in fantasy stories. He was to be originally a male counterpart to a female anthro dragon char I have called Kazul.

2) What made you create the character in the first place?
Morganiss - She became a guardian in the Underworld for a story of mine.
Caoin Murdoch - As part of a long back-story for another character and story, sheÂs somewhat of a protagonist.
Fraoch - I wanted to create a celtic/pictish purple dragoness, and I saw the name ÂFraochÂ on the ale bottle. From that, my species of Beithir-Mughach (Pictish Fur Dragons) was created.
Fyreroth CrimsonTalon - Again as part of a story, he is the offspring of elemental dragon and fire demon, created to become a champion warrior against the daemons.
Kazan - He was originally supposed to be part of a story with another character, but then got put into a crappy fan fiction, and now is in limbo in his own stories.

3) How the character has changed over time?
Morganiss - Apart from her reincarnation at the start of her story, then not at all, even my drawings of her havenÂt changed in design. Her personality became a little more subdued and friendly towards the end of her story.
Caoin Murdoch - She is and always will be somewhat of a tortured soul, angry at her family and those who have her fatherÂs attention. She can be a nasty piece of work.
Fraoch - Can be rather crazy and uncontrollable at times, though is rather chilled out any other time - this is her personality from the start.
Fyreroth CrimsonTalon - IÂve not really developed him much, simply because the story has only got as far as his birth. He does get a partner and daughter later on though.
Kazan - His appearance has never changed, but since heÂs been bumped from story to story heÂs changed somewhat. He started out as an general scum-bag anthro, then to an aggressive and destructive creature, now heÂs a vain, curious and naÃ¯ve sort.

4) Any random fun fact about that character?
Morganiss - she likes rolling in mud
Caoin Murdoch - she sings to her raven friends
Fraoch - give her enough mead and sheÂll do anything
Fyreroth CrimsonTalon - he collects round stones with holes in
Kazan - chooses not to use his magick.

What if i made some dragon characters, gave them colours, names and a basic background story/profile. Would anyone be interested in adopting them as their own characters?

- Each user is only allowed to adopt 1 dragon
- You can only adopt a dragon if you are a watcher
- Adoptions are 1st come 1st serve

- Fan art of your adopted dragon is permitted.
- Do not pester other users for their dragon, it's not their fault if you missed out on one you really like, it's first-come-first-served.
- Once you adopt, you can't trade in your dragon for others, or trade them with other users.
- Once adopted, the dragon belongs to the adopter. They may extend the profile and background story of their dragon, they may write stories involving their dragon, they may draw pictures of their dragon and they may allow others to draw their dragon.
- Adopters must be nice to their dragon. Do not kill, maim or use the dragon in unacceptable circumstances (in accordance with deviantART's policies please).

Tueesday - Today has been surreal, i can't quite comprehend it all myself.
I was attempting to get a doctors appointment for a completely unrelated cause, but cos i've got a cold i was told to ring a different number - this turned out to be the hotline for swine flu pandemic, lol wtf! After answering all their questions i was given authorisation to get the medication (Tamiflu) used to combat swine flu. It's not confirmed that i have it however. I'm still in slight disbelief at this.

Anyway, i feel like crap and have spent most of the day in bed.
Commissions may be delayed a little.

EDIT: Friday - still down with whatever-this-flu-is-possibly-swine-flu-lol. I've been off work all week.
Until a couple of hours ago i had a hacking cough that felt like the chest-bursting scene from the Alien films. I've spent the last few days feeling absolutely fecking awful, in bed or slumped on the sofa out-of-it. I've had more meds and natural remedies that's available, to try and aleviate the nastiness.
I've completed 2 of 3 commissions and started the 3rd. I've also got several of my character artwork coloured.
Now i'm just wrapped up in my woolen cloak watching the sci-fi channel.

Sod off wasps!Irritating trio that won't go away - 3 wasps that have this obsession with me, the computer, the tv, hovering round my dragon statues and hitting the window (i do have the patio doors open, but i do have olbas oil in the air atomiser - it usually keeps them away)

I finally got round to taking photos of our new pet rats.
We've got two males this time (only kept females before), they're called Narvi (he's the cream/champaigne smudge nose/bum one) and Loki (the black and white (part) hooded rat).

They're awesome. Now just to get back our huge 3-storey rat cage that we can fill with toys and activities (long story that irritates me).

I've finally found out what the feck is wrong with my knees! After how many years! Anyway, after a visit to the Physiotherapist, i now know - my knee caps are not where they should be, in the case of my left (worse) knee the cap is grating over the lower head of my fibula (thigh bone) hence the sharp sudden agonising pain.
So i've got to try excerises to help relocate it, if those don't work then i'll probably have to have surgery.

Thank you work-place for causing this aggrivation.

Meh

I'm recovering from a sudden and severe fever i got (dunno where i got it from, though i suspect it's from the agony and inflamation of my knees). The persistant headache is making it hard to concentrate on anything, nevermind drawing.
Why is it that this happens when i've got a couple of days off and time to do artwork, it's frustrating.

I'll hopefully be back into drawing again soon.

I've worked out the journal skin/CSS thing now.

Had my toe sorted out, it looks like it's been in a blender, lol, but suprisingly it doesn't currently hurt (it did when the local anaesthetic wore off). Taxis are expensive! I've had to get them too and from the Dr's surgery for the surgery and bandage changes, and boy do i miss driving.

I've not improved in technique, style or quality over the years, i just spam my own gallery with endless tat of random and colour-puked OC's. I look at what art i had planned for myself - more fucking OC's! I'm sick of them. I have folders full of the crap i've done, and what for? I hate looking at my 'art', it's depressing, i'll never get to draw how i see stuff in my mind.
Perhaps i should have continued on with art after high school, not that i got taught much to that level (i found my old school art folder, oh dear). Too late for that. I'm 27 and there's 10 year olds that draw far better than me. It gets to the point that i'm ashamed to show my scrawlings to anyone.
I'm my own worst critic. My colour choices are like a puking rainbow, shading skills abominable, anatomy and posing awkward looking, use of medias available limited; and topic content monotomous. Then there's the lack of depth, perspective, backgrounds and 'life' in the stuff i produce.
My art is going nowhere, it's stagnent, lying comatose in it's own filth. I'm tired of it, i've had enough of the inadequate waste of paper and colours.

I shall complete all work that i owe people - art trades and contest prizes (when my contest ends). I'm not entering any more contests, nor shall i set my own after my current one has ended.
There will be no other artwork until the time comes that i create something that is a drastic improvement.
I'm now deliberating whether to remove stuff from my gallery.

Why is there no alcohol in the house when i want to drink myself into oblivion?

EDIT: Still no dragons, still no planned personal art. What there will be is something very halucinogen-induced.
I won't be removing my artwork, no matter how crappy i think it is.
I'm considering going into creating surreal and psychedelic art, as i'm awe-inspired by artists such as Roger Dean, Patrick Woodroffe and Peter Pracownik.
There are certain things i want to do to improve my technique in any art:
* construct a light-box - this will help me produce neat pencil line drawings in order to move onto watercolours/watercolour pencils.
* Practice with other medias - i have a collection of art materials i don't use: oil pastels, sepia/sanguine pencils, charcoal pencils, water colours, and my acyrlics don't get enough use.
* Experiment with different bases - i've got lots of textured cards and papers, as well as proper paper for pastels etc. Even use materials such as wood and slate to paint on.
* Draw more inspiration from nature - i've seen some wonderous and mystical sights in my time, they ought to be interpretted and shared.

We'll see how this goes. As i've also got other more serious things on my mind currently.

I've just come across an 'artist' aka theiving scum that has blatently stolen several original images of a rather well known artist - Lisa Hunt [link] , and claims the stolen work as her own creation, even going to lengths as to describe techniques, time taken and making up stuff to comments made by gulliable people. The proof is that the original artist's signature is in the bottom left or right of every image.

I'm amazed that people still think they can get away with this shit. I've just gone ahead and reported every stolen image to the admins. The deviant is just not worth my breath informing her personally (i suspect she's an newbie or has been banned before for such behaviour - 'deviant for 3 weeks' ).

We were about to get our weekly shopping from ASDA.
Luckily no harm done apart from an interesting wound on his head and blood everywhere in the supermarket carpark. The receptionist, the triage nurse and the doctor he saw all thought it was funny what i'd done; odd, I'm the only one that doesn't find it funny, more guilty and freaked-out by it.

I've even been doing some gardening! (even though i work in a garden centre, i'm not known for gardening skills)I've got courgette and potatoes growing in pots, as well as sowing some flower and gourd seeds,and re-potting crassula (money plant/jade plant) cuttings and some houseplants.
I'm now gonna go to the local Ikea to buy picture frames and hotdogs.

Conditions for trading:
* Trades can be traditional, digital, 3D media or even a story on your part
* I donÂt expect immediate return on a trade, I do expect both sides to complete trades within 2 months.
* Procrastination and lame excuses are not appreciated, if you are going to do this then donÂt bother asking.
* Do not waste my time. I work full time and have little time to spend on art as it is.
* If you are wanting to trade, then you must post your half before I post mine.
* You need to have some sort of reference picture or detailed description, vagueness wonÂt do.

Somewhat harsh I guess, but IÂve been burned by some fobbing off on their halves in the past.

What to expect from me:
* I will ask for a suggestion for pose and background.
* I will offer a choice of 3 characters of mine for you to choose one.
* I scan my art in stages, so I can show work in progress if required.
* The image will be inked then coloured. This will usually be A4 sized paper in coloured pencil or acrylic paints, but other medias can be discussed.
* My half will be fully coloured, including some form of background.
* I can supply fully written descriptions and images of creatures to draw.
* Any art I create is copyright to me, it is not to be reposted or used without my permission. Characters are copyright their original owners.

Right, i got a pretty neat idea i think. This is likely to have additions/updates and crud from time to time - keep watch!
Scenario:
Zha'krisstol is having a party for her birthday. Who is there? What's going on? Where is it?

The contest: Draw, write (etc) the scene that you imagine.

Rules:
*Must have an incarnation of Zhassekbis Seiloki Korrigan Krisstol (Zha) in the scene (any of her many forms - ask if you're unsure).
*Include at least 1 more of my characters (again, ask if you're unsure of who are my characters).
*Include as many as you'd like of your own characters, and/or fandom characters (etc, Hellboy, Pyramid Head, Shrek, Spyro, whatever, lol.).
*Depict/describe where the party's at and what is going on - freedom for wild insane imagination here.
*No killing/mortal wounding of any of my characters.
*Please keep within DeviantArt's perameters and policies (NO porn, NO yuri/yaoi/hentai, NO paedophillia, etc.
*It can contain gore/violence/macabre etc, but for goodness sake FLAG & TAG correctly as mature (warning or severe).
*All questions and enqueries MUST be done via the DA notes system. Also, entries MUST be submitted in a link via the notes system too.
*My characters must be given credit to me.

Other notes:
*I can provide ref pics of my characters, and written profiles of some.
*Ask as many questions as you like, I don't bite, much. Please discuss things with me, i'm rather open-minded.

Deadline: Thursday 21st May 2009 (day after my birthday, whut, i'm not going to be competent to use a computer on the 20th!)

Prizes:
1st - 3 full coloured pictures of your choice (other, more exclusive art prizes are available instead - e.g. acrylic painting).
2nd - 1 full coloured picture and a detailed lineart request.
3rd - 1 detailed lineart and a metallic pen/black paper portrait request.
4th - 1 metallic pen/black paper portrait request.
(note: these could be subject to change)

All entries that get a placement/prize will also get a full feature in my journals.
If i have enough money when the time comes, i'll throw in some subbies too.
