-School has started again. After this year I will finally have finished the classes I need to go to university or something. I'm considering philosophy in Stavanger or Trondheim.

-A friend of mine who also paints and makes art just got out of the loony bin, so now we're two mentally unstable artists in the neighborhood.

-I have had a cold and sinus trouble for a month now and getting tired of it.

-Cashew nuts might be better than pistachios.

-I've made loads of music lately but my band hasn't been able to play for a long while, and I still haven't met the guy who'll probably be our drummer.

-Trailer Park Boys is one of the funniest shows ever.

He's been to the St. Vitus Cathedral and my rubber duck Fiona is deadly jealous of him.

Other than that, summer seems to really have kicked in and my apartment is ridiculously hot these days.

I have gotten a job at a second-hand store for the summer, but a different one than the one I worked at last year. The one I'll be working at now deals mainly in clothes and books, so there'll be no carrying of stoves and other heavy goods.

I have selected my summer album for the year(last year it was Dopes To Infinity by Monster Magnet), and it is Safe As Milk by Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band. Abba Zaba is now one of my favorite songs ever.

I haven't been painting very much lately, but I will definitely be going back to painting a lot soon. I have some ideas

-Yesterday some kids made me happy. I walk by a kindergarten on my way to town, and the kids who were outside playing said I looked like a cowboy.

-The Acid Eaters is not a very good film. The extra material on the DVD was class, though.

-Ren and Stimpy ROCKS and I can't believe I haven't bought the DVDs earlier.

-Clutch are still one of the greatest bands on earth.

-I don't know the local forests and hills as good as I thought.

-It's almost summer. Delightful. Can't wait for some naked frolicking by the lake.

-I don't really like gin as much as I used to anymore.

-I do, however, still like beer.

-I've lost the notebook I had all my art history stuff in, so I'm going to have to do it all over to pass that class.

-ICE CREAM!! OMFG!

-My apartment is a total mess. Again.

-There are way more cats outside now. Joy!

-Someone's been stealing my newspaper from my mailbox.

Ok, here's some news.

I've got a mini-exhibition at the library in Dombås(a small place where I lived a couple years ago) going, displaying three paintings and some drawings. I hope people'll like my stuff.

I'm back at my childhood home for the weekend to celebrate a friend's birthday and say hello to friends and family, I haven't been here since December.

I bought some rather feminine socks with pigs on them the other day. I usually wear women's socks, seeing as I don't have very manly feet.

I watched the movie M*A*S*H for the first time earlier this week and really liked it. I then decided to learn to play the theme song, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

On Friday I went to a concert to see two bands I had never heard before. The first band was YoYoYo Acapulco, which was a very pleasant surprise, they performed a weird and quirky breed of happy ukulele-and-kazoo-rock, had a very very cute female bass player, and were an overall fun band. After them, 120 Days went on, who I didn't like quite as much, although the trippier parts of their dark electro-rock were pretty intense and cool.

I started on this drawing last week, and I've done a lot more on it since I uploaded this picture. It's been a long time since I've been trying to do more detailed and realistic work, so I thought I'd give it a go. It's a self portrait on A3 format. What you see here is just the right side of the format. I'm thinking about doing a series of surreal pencil drawings.

Utsøkt Kadaver

Lately I've been coercing some of my friends who claim they can't draw into playing Cadavre Exquis games with me, with some very interesting results. I'm planning to make a new profile where I'll upload the exquisite corpses I make with my friends.
A point I'm trying to teach them is that they're all artists, regardless of technical skills.


In other news:

I haven't been eating a lot of carrots lately, but I have been consuming quite large amounts of cheese.

I watched A Scanner Darkly last night and liked it a lot.
I also watched V for Vendetta last week, and was very disappointed. The film is ok, really, but it doesn't do the comic any justice at all.

TV is getting crappier and crappier every day.
Shows that are currently running on Norwegian TV that I can bear to watch:
Carnivàle
Monty Pythons Flying Circus(about 100th time they do reruns I think, but I still love it)
Little Britain
Mad TV(more reruns)


Clutch are coming to Norway in April! And Fu Manchu in May! Like, WEEEEEE!

Oh, and about a month from now I'm celebrating my first year anniversary as a free man! On February 27th last year I was released from the Reinsvoll mental hospital! Hooray for me! I will be doing a painting or something to celebrate this, for sure!

One thing I started thinking about a while ago, I've started to consider myself an actual artist, earlier I just thought of myself as a guy who occasionly made pictures and did strange stuff. Now I think of art in pretty much everything that I do, thinking about ways I could capture moods, finding new solutions to stuff and blah blah blah I still get bored though.

Winter came to Animal Crossing a while ago, and I've been making snowmen, trying to get them perfect so that they'll give me snowman furniture, but I've only managed to get two of them right. They gave me snowman floor and snowman TV.

That's it I guess. Check in later sometime for more peeks into my world.

]]> ~abebones http://abebones.deviantart.com/journal/10909417/ http://abebones.deviantart.com/journal/10909417/ Fri, 01 Dec 2006 05:15:33 PST Now, this isn't an oil painting, but since the plastic I was painting on is transparent, I had the opportunity to work on both sides of it to make some interesting effects. I used spray paint, acrylics, ink, and a highly flammable glue I use a lot. When I had applied a little glue to the back of the painting, I set it on fire, to see how it'd look, and whether or not it would melt the plastic too much. It didn't. It actually looked really good, you see, the main motive is on the front of the plastic, but I left a good portion of the surface open, to play with the back. But then I thought, hey, if a little burnt plastic is cool, why don't we cover the entire back of the plastic with glue!? So I did. A thick layer of very flammable glue. I thought it was a good idea, because usually the flames are easily put out. Not now. I just slightly touched the surface with the flame, and WOOOSH!!!, 3 foot flames, anyone? And, being a moron as I am, I hadn't planned this, so I didn't have any water to put out the flames, and trying to blow out the flames wasn't really a working option. I eventually got the plasticy, fuming fire covered with the first thing I got my hands on, another painting, and managed to extinguish the fire. However, when you set plastic on fire, it might tend to melt a bit. It got stuck to the other painting(the one I put out the flames with), so I had to break them apart from each other. At first, I thought I had ruined the painting, but although it's a little out of shape, it still looks pretty good, and now the painting sort of has more of a story to tell of its own, in addition to my own intentions when I made it. So, when we look at this particular incident, I think I've got everyone on my side when I conclude that everyone should eat way more carrots, and drink way more chamomille tea. Oh, and that plastic melts.

I'm currently working on three paintings:
-an oil painting on canvas, 60x80cm, a surreal scene with a red girl, the Argh rabbit fighting other creatures in the background, and other stuff. I have done the big stuff, now it's detail time, which'll probably take a while even though it won't be the most detailed work around.
-an acrylic thing on canvas, 50x60cm, an irregular psychedelic pattern made out of eyes. I haven't started painting this, but I've drawn it up on the canvas. I was out of red acrylic paint, but I got more today so I'll probably start painting a bit on it tonight while the oil painting is drying a bit.
-a work with spray paint and acrylics on a piece of transparent plastic from my refrigerator, which I have no idea how is going to turn out. I've just barely begun, and this is one of those works where I have no real plan.

I've got some bigger paintings at home that I'll try to have photographed and uploaded next week.

The royal crown was available in my town yesterday, but it cost 1,2 million bells so I couldn't afford to buy it. I hope that today's turnip prices are high so I can make a good profit. I want to expand my house more, but I'm not sure if it's possible. Stitches has moved out of town. I don't know yet who'll move in, but I hope it's someone cool. Preferably a rabbit, because I like the rabbits.

Edit: I just uploaded a different version of Animals to my scrapbook. This version's name is WHERE are the carrots????
