It seems like my German external hard drive is finally begging me to retire it. No matter how many times I've tried, either the computer refuses to read it, or else it just doesn't have the power to run properly anymore. I don't know which. Still, though, this means I can't access it at all, and I have everything saved in there.

I'm not as horribly panicked as I thought I'd be, but in part it's because a good portion of my files are saved in my computer down in Texas, and the last time I synced the two machines was back in March. So, in a worst case scenario, I'd be losing whatever I've worked on in the past 3 and a half months.

Namely, most of my comic strips' high resolution files.

Again, not the end of the world exactly, since all the comics are hand drawn...but still. It'd be a pain in the butt to scan them all in and shade them again, etc. etc.

Anyway, I'm pretty certain all the information is still in there, intact. The drive was working just fine last night, and just this morning it made an honest attempt to retrieve a file, except it told me it couldn't do it, and then from there it's been fully invisible to the computer.

I hope this is something the Geek Squad can take care of...I'd really love to recover my files.

Argh, I don't want to be spending money right now... -__-

If any of you have any advice or words of wisdom for me regarding this situation, or even if you wouldn't mind crossing your fingers and toes and hope this turns out all right, I'd really appreciate it!

Edit: for anyone interested in knowing, my drive is a Freecom, Classic Series, and it was bought in 2004.

I've kept on drawing my little comic strip, Fall on Me, and I'm starting to think it'd be nice to display it (and archive it) in a better way than in my blog and DA. That way I'd also be giving the comic strip a "home" of sorts, so to speak.

(If I did this, I'd either keep posting them here or at least post updates of some sort directing people to the "home" link, or something...I'll figure something out ).

I've looked a bit into Comicpress, which seems to be pretty popular, but I have NO idea how to go about it. I'm sure there's other ways to go as well, but I really have no clue.

Any thoughts or words of advice? I'd really appreciate it!

For regular sketching and even for marker work, I normally use Canson Universal sketchpads and so far so good (for those curious, here's a review on the sketchbook here: [link]). And for proper watercolor painting, I just use either Canson watercolor paper (cold press, 140lb) or Arches.

I know about Bristol boards, but I haven't used them since college, and even then I didn't use them too much.

Anyway, I'd love to hear what you guys have to say

Since July of 2006 the crew from Light Bug Productions, LLC and myself have worked to bring The Firefly and the Stars to life. The Firefly and the Stars started off as my 3rd year 1-minute student film way back in Sheridan days (2004-2005), and now it's a 6-minute animated children's short film (available in English and in Spanish) that we're working on to bring out commercially.

All right, I believe I've sorted this out!

I'll be accepting art commissions now, in order to help pay for bills and whatnot.

I will request half of the payment upfront. I will not start drawing otherwise! I've been burned a few times already by people who disappeared on me after the work was done. I never gave them the work, but still...it was a waste of time and materials for me all the same. Not fun.

Here's my pricing:

Sketch (graphite pencil, blue or red colerase pencil or a combo)(samples: [link] , [link] , [link] ): $10 for a single character with no BG or a simple BG element.

Ink or brush pen (samples: [link] , [link] ): $15 for a single character with no BG or a simple BG element.

Traditional color (Tria markers, watercolor, or a combo of both):

-Tria (sample: [link] ): $20 for a single character with no BG or a simple BG element.

-Watercolor ([link] ): $30 for a single character with no BG or a simple BG element.

-Combo of both watercolor and Tria (sample: [link] ) $25 for a single character with no BG or a simple BG element.

Note: I can color with trias and watercolor on inked or un-inked art (i.e. lineart is just in graphite and/or colored pencil ). Let me know which you would prefer! If the work is without ink, I will knock down $5 off the price! (samples of that: [link] , [link] )

Digital color (Photoshop):

Flat colors (samples: [link] , [link] , [link] ): $25 for a single character with no BG or a simple BG element.

More rendered colors (sample: [link] , [link] ): $30 for a single character with no BG or a simple BG element.

BGs: $5 - $25 ($5 for simple BG element, $25 for detailed room or landscape).

I will only be sending you a high res file, so you may go ahead and make your own prints. If you want the original artwork, be sure to discuss it with me first so I can calculate shipping costs into the final price.

I still own the copyright of all commissioned artwork (character copyrights belong to the respective owners, of course!). I reserve the right to use commission artwork for portfolio purposes. Commissions are for personal use only! Please don't sell my work! If you want to commission me for commercial/publishing purposes, please discuss it with me first and I'll be glad to sort things out with you. Be aware that it may affect the commission price a bit.

I preferably take Paypal as form of payment. If you cannot use Paypal and prefer to pay me in other means, please mention it in your email and we'll work it out!

I would like to start offering art commissions after the wedding (this Saturday!!), and to receive payment through Paypal (preferably). I already have a Paypal account, but how would I go about setting it up so people can access my account whenever it's time to make a payment? If it helps, I don't have Paypal set up with any bank account yet.

Also, for commissions, would one normally establish a contract first? What's the best way to go? I've been burned a few times already by doing work I never got paid for (I didn't submit it to the people either, but still...the work was already done =/).

Thoughts? Advice?

In the meantime, I'm happy to be visiting Canada, catching up with old college friends I hadn't seen in almost two years, and enjoying the cooler weather. Epa, que tal si a la persona que vea mi pagina en su marca 10,000 (algun dia, ji ji), le hago un dibujo? (la persona tendria que mostrarme una imagen de la pantalla para probarlo, me imagino...?)

La persona podria pedirme que le dibuje lo que quiera, siempre y cuando no sea algo muy violento o con mucha sangre...y definitivamente nada sexual/depravado u ofensivo.

1. I nibble my fingertips when I'm anxious/nervous
2. On that same note, I tend to bite my lower lip a lot under the same circumstances as above
3. I can pop my left big toe's joint
4. I can whistle by pushing air with my lower lip through my top front teeth, and make it sound like a baby chick
5. I think out loud and pray outloud very often...mainly when I'm alone (hopefully). It's embarrasing when I'm overheard.

He notado desde hace tiempo que la mayoria de mis dibujos estan orientados hacia la izquierda (<--hacia alla). Soy capaz de dibujar de izquierda a derecha sin problema, pero la orientacion de derecha a izquierda me viene mas natural.

I really think DA should have a better way to manage images like that not only from viewers who are not interested in seeing such things, but even from minors! How many underage people (not meant as an offense) use this website and can easily be exposed to such things?? These images should either not be allowed to have thumbnails, or should have a big warning of some sort that people have to click on or something before even showing the thumbnails. That way the viewer can make a decision.

Just realized I'm juggling 3 part-time jobs and a web design class O__o It's not too crazy, but it's been enough to lessen my chances to sit down and draw something.

In a couple of weeks my family and I should be heading off to Venezuela to spend the holidays with the relatives, whom I haven't seen for almost 5 years. Should be fun

And ooooh I get to meet the author of the children's story I based my student film from! I'm very excited about that

Ya volvi de Canada desde el martes pasado (el 29). Fue una visita muy linda, pero se me paso tan rapido! Bueno...

En unas dos semanas mas o menos mi familia y yo nos vamos a Venezuela a pasar la navidad y año nuevo con nuestros parientes, a quienes no he visto desde hace 5 años. Creo que va a ser bien chévere.

Ah! Y voy a conocer al autor del cuentecito del cual basé el corto animado que hice en el colegio! Estoy bastante emocionada con eso!

I met with some old school friends on Monday at Sheridan, and will be meeting with a few more in downtown Toronto tonight for dinner! I'm pretty excited! I miss everyone...

Weather's a bit cloudy and chilly, but I like it. And I'm glad to be able to see a few autumn leaves still. I love autumn

He estado en Canada por 5 dias ya.

El lunes me encontre con unos amigos y antiguos compañeros de clase en Sheridan (el colegio de donde recientemente me gradue), y me voy a encontrar con otros mas en el centro de Toronto esta noche para cenar! Estoy muy emocionada! Los he extrañado tanto...

El clima ha estado algo nublado y frio, pero me gusta. Y me alegra poder ver todavia algunas hojitas de otoño. Me gusta mucho el otoño
