First things first

I would like to say the loudest HELLO to all those cool and talented comrades who watches my DA page, more or less its gonna be you people whose going to read this entry (unless of course you choose not to activate the automatic update, but then again, its unimportant).

2007 was not a very good year for me. First, i have been sick last year and it took months before i completely recovered. And due to this mainly, i have been out of focus, shattered and i would say, lost throughout the whole year (yeah, i was pathetic).

BUT this year is different. This year will be different. Since January, i am keeping myself on track and focus on my goals, both in my work and in my personal life.

And part of this is giving a special time to DA. The community has given me so much and the least i can do is become a lurker again (yes i have been a major lurker for the past year!). And i say enough to that!

Cheers to my most favorite people here in the community:

20 Great Movies that Ignite Inspiration (Part 1 of 2)

I was seven years old when i watched my first movie. Vividly, i still remember my father putting the book like Betamax tape inside our then, technologically advanced Betamax Player. I still remember how butterflies seemed to flock around, flying inside my stomach. I was excited, yes; and probably nervously anticipating what’s in store in the following minutes. Perhaps i have known in my gut that something magical and extraordinary will start to happen; so magical and so beyond my small, confined thinking, that the event would leave a lingering imprint in my memory.

The movie was Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory.

No words would ever be enough to describe how wondrous the effect of such magic happening before a seven-year old kid’s eyes. My heart was so full, my mind racing with thoughts and possibilities. The experience changed me; it awakened something absolutely positive and inspiring, it opened my mind to a different world, so beautifully different to our small country town where amazing things happen, where the streets seem to have a life of its own, where men lived to find their dreams. That such a world existed, that such a world is achievable became the guiding light on which my life’s path began to unravel.

At seven years old, i became a dreamer.

I became a dreamer and a movie addict.

Twenty one years later, that kid who lived in that small country town is still a movie addict. I am no longer just a dreamer though as i have learned throughout the years that dreams are merely the starting point of even greater things; now, i am actualizing those dreams and taking the right path.

Hopefully.

Because at 28, i still am weak. I falter a lot. And i still depend on movies to awaken something magical; i still watch a a good movie to pump up my creative juice; i still go back to watching a movie everytime solitude beckons.

And this is where my list starts.

1. Schindler’s List
I wasn’t able to watch Schindler’s List when it was first shown and won the awards it so richly deserved back in 1993. So when i got the chance to watch it the first time two years ago, i know that i will be swept away. And i was. The depth of the story and the value placed on life, on human life, is extraordinary. The movie is not about war or the Jews or the Nazis. It is about hope and about the triumph of the human spirit. Quote:Whoever saves one life, saves the whole world.

2. Malena
The first thing that drew me towards the movie was of course the beautiful Monica Belluci. Ms. Belluci is one of the greatest beauty i have ever seen on the screen (forgive me, i just have to say that). I could write a hundred poems just describing her beauty. So casting her to play that mysterious and seemingly perfect Malena Scordia who captivates every man who lay eyes upon her, young and old alike, was perfect. It is a movie about sensual awakenings, yes. But to me, Malena is more about the evolution of a young man’s perception of the world; how he has come to realize that the world can be cruel and irrational and unjust and that one must do his best to be positively different, to start something that is good.

3. La Mala Educacion (Bad Education)
I have been a long-time fan of Pedro Almodovar’s film making. His movies are dark, comedic, and yet deep, thought provokin...

It's been quite a while since i last submitted something here. For most of the time, i have been a lurker these past weeks. My mind is still so bombarded by work and client projects that i hardly get the time to squeeze in some personal creative works. I hope in a few weeks time i would be able to create something and get to use the wonderful new stock photos that i have found.

My subscription has run out and i hope i would be able to get one soon as looking through updates without the thumbnails could become a really tedious task especially when you have 900+ unopened new submissions to look over after days of not being able to check in.

Will update soon....

WHAT A SICK EXPERIENCE!!!

Almost four weeks ago, i suffered from Urinary Track Infection which was caused by my NOT drinking enough water for so long a time (i usually drink C2 Iced Tea). For more than a week my fever was terrible as it shoot up to 40+ Centigrade; everytime my fever shoots up, i suffer from an almost hallucinatory state where i begin to imagine things and my mind just wont stop grinding aside from the fact that i felt like i was being burned at the stake! (Yes, it was really, really terrible)

And on the fifth day of my illness, i just couldnt bear it anymore and my fever shoot up to the highest and i told my mom and my cousin to bring me to the hospital. After 8 gruelling hours of waiting and some initial laboratory testing, we finally got a room. They gave me injections of liquid paracetamol to lower down my fever. Thankfully, that helped a lot. I stayed in the hospital for three days and undergone so many tests as the doctors wanted to make sure its just UTI thats actually attacking my system. Thankfully again, all my tests were okay.

BUT eventhough i was out of the hospital, the week that followed was still not too well. I still had some occassional fever attacks. Basically, i wasnt STILL feeling my topmost.

It was only this week that i began to feel that im regaining my old self again. Thank the high heavens.

CHANGES!

Obviously, due to what ive gone through, i decided to change my lifestyle and began to be more concerned about my health.

1. I drastically reduced my smoking. From my usual, gee, how many packs of cigarettes a day TO just 5 sticks per day.

2. I began to really drink 8 glasses of water per day and totally abandoned drinking C2 Iced Tea.

3. I began sleeping earlier than my usual bedtime which was around 4am then. (Now its strictly 1-130am)

4. I stopped skipping meals which i was really guilty of before i got sick.

5. I began to really eat REAL food.

6. I promised myself that i wont be drinking alcoholic beverages anytime soon OR i wont drink if dont feel like drinking or if i feel that my body isnt just conditioned to drink.

7. I began to see that i abused myself; let my work abused me; and how i allowed the people around me abuse me. (And it is to be put to a STOP!)

8. Most importantly, i began to appreciate my family more. I realized how much they love me and how greatly they treasure me. That really made an imperative impact on how i view life now and how i willed myself to change my self-destructive lifestyle.

^^^

I so missed my great artist friend Angelles who have also been away for the past weeks. Glad youre back now Gells and hope we could see more great art from you in the coming weeks.

Prelude

And so the Holy Week Holiday officially ends today. Here in the Philippines, its one of the few holidays that actually allow normal working people to take a long break, go to the beach, and spend their hard earned peso.

That last one... spending my hard-earned peso... gave me a headache because my allowance for this particular holiday was actually drained. Poor me.

Michael Jackson

Yes. I have mustered a totally new sense of respect for Michael Jackson music. After acquiring his complete discography via a method which i am NOT completely sure if actually legal (winks!) and spending hours listening to each song, my mind decided that Michael Jackson was indeed a phenomenal artist as what most of the entities of the global music industry claimed and hyped him to be.

You see i am not an MJ fan. I know about his music and his self-initiated campaign to be revered as the "King of Pop" (or is it actually MTV that started this campaign?). And of course i am well too aware of his superhuman dance moves which made a lot of girls scream and faint into tears.

But i found his artistry to be more than these things. More than his dance moves and definitely more than the screaming fans and the "King of Pop" title, his music is just raw and affecting. The lyrics are reeking with powerful messages on love, racism, sex, freedom... death. These powerful messages matched with a seemingly fragile vocals are just amazing.

I am not claiming that i am now a fan of MJ, the person BUT rather MJ, the artist.

Gee, i hope i made some sense here and didnt sound too much too eager to just update my journal.

But then again, probably i am.

Just too eager. (winks!)

Prelude

It has been quite a while since i've written something on my journal. I have been finally working again after my long self-incurred holidays. It has been quite a ride these early months of 2007 and i have made a conscious decision to finally learn different things... to push my self to the limits of what i can do and what my mind can process.

The journey has been very rewarding. And the new things that i have learned are somewhat overwhelming to a common tao such as myself. And i am ever so thankful for every bit of juice added to the nourishment of my neurons.

As always these new things humble me.

A Surprising Gift

I opened my DA account tonight and was positively SURPRISED when i learned that i am now SUBSCRIBED! It wasnt definitely myself who made the subscription so somebody here must have been very, very kind to have given me a taste of it. I was totally overjoyed that i readily told my mom about it. I am happy. Really happy.

I found out later on when i checked my email that it was from one my most admired artist here in DA, Angelles. My sincerest gratitude. Thank you very much. Thank you.

I shall make the most of this subscription and do some more works which i hope would be worthy of every comment or view or favorite.

Grateful

Thank you to all the persons who have made DeviantArt a nurturing place for persons such as i am; thank you for unselfishly illuminating the rays of your creative art to a dreamer like myelf.
Thank you to all the brush artists whose works i have used and will still be using. Your works have been such a great help.

Thank you very much to the artists here who have been a great inspiration and influence to my works and my drive to continue on striving to do better.

Whenever i work, and thats everyday and almost every night, i dont seem to notice that my nicotine intake increases. It seems that nicotine is directionally proportional to ideas and creativity.

I know, i know, THATS PATHETIC.

^^^^^

Been a while since i last wrote something here. Im visiting my DA page but havent got the luxury of actually uploading my works. Gee, i havent even been able to upload my new photographs. I hope i could do so by next week since im hoping that work will even out by that time. (As if somebody cares if i upload my stuff! LOL)

^^^^^

I also hope i would be able to participate in my Eliteartists group here since i wasnt able to upload anything for them since, gee, i cant remember. Guys, so sorry!

Oh, and congratulations to the winners of the Leaving Eden contest. Nice works everyone!
To the PINOYS whose works and talent are all ASTIG!
You guys make every ounce of the Filipino blood in me extremely proud!

X-Men 3 is okay. I watched it a few days ago. It was less than what i expected it to be.

And to think The Phoenix part of the X-Men cartoon is my all time fav of the whole series.

Oh well, thats just me.

Cheers to all my friends here at DA!
Wish to see more of your awesome works here!
Ive been doing most of my work in my laptop because my PC's monitor suddenly turned very dark and unbearable. Now, i really have to buy an LCD for it. Darn!!!! Ive been delaying that for quite some time!

Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged reeks with so much intellectual power and groundbreaking philosophical values that rocked the core of my being.

It has moved me because of how it perfectly intellectualized every aspect of the human experience. It awakened in me an objective and rational view of life and how one's self, one's mind, and one's values are to be placed as basis of a person's absolute moral code - a moral code that is never to be surrendered because of altruism which is ultimately a negation of one's high regard for life, for one's life.

Ayn Rand's impeccable literary voice embraces all generations and is beyond religion, society, and doctrines. The book is about how life and human beings are ought to be.

I have been greatly influenced by this book. From the very first words up to an end which is but fitting and memorable.

And i have read and re-read it numerous times and still found my views of life empowered.

YOU? WHAT IS THE GREATEST AND MOST INFLUENTIAL BOOK YOUVE EVER READ?

1. Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, and find line 4.

Guess what? The only book on my desk is a handy dictionary which has been really <and when i say really, i mean REALLY!> worned out not because of frequent use but because of negligence. <Alfred tells self: Shame on you! You little piece of ill-fated vocabulary scum!!>

So line 4? The word is automatic: done without conscious effort.

2. Stretch your left arm out as far as you can.

On my left is an orange painted wall. Hmm.. that made my joints sound a bit. Thanks for the little exercise.

3. What is the last thing you watched on tv?

A re-run of Murder, she wrote with the good 'ol Jessica Fletcher. This woman knows her business really well; and it seems that shes the only one on the show who does. <Alfred tells self: Well, its her show dimwit!!!>

4. Without looking, guess what time it is:

Gee, 4:00 in the afternoon???

5. Now look at the clock. What is the actual time?

Its 4:19.

6. With the exception of the computer, what can you hear?

Sounds from the TV. Dogs barking. Birds chirping!! Now, why are there birds in my neighborhood?

7. When did you last step outside? what were you doing?

About a minute ago. I went out to get the mail.

8. Before you started this survey, what did you look at?

My mobile phone.

9. What are you wearing?

Boxers and a muscle shirt. Both blue.

10. Did you dream last night?

All of us dream every night my dear. Its just that sometimes we dont remember. So if youre asking: Did i remember what i dreamed about last night? Its a yes.

11. When did you last laugh?

I cant remember. Havent laughed the whole day. Am not sure if i laughed yesterday.

12. What is on the walls of the room you are in?

Framed paintings. A really big mirror which covers almost 3/4 of one of the walls. A clock with some wall art behind it.

13. Seen anything weird lately?

Yes. Im seeing myself in the mirror.

14. What do you think of this quiz?

Another reason to burn time.

15. What is the last film you saw?

Havent been into the movies lately but i watched Memoirs of a Geisha a couple of days ago on dvd.

16. If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy?

Powerbook G5 <on top of my list>. An outdoor signage printer so that i could start a new business. Give some parts of it to the church. All Ayn Rand books. My fav Paula Cole CD. The 3 best compilations of Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals. Schindler's List DVD. A house.

17. Tell me something about you that I don't know:

You know nothing about me.

18. If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do?

Im going start with changing my sometimes edgy and sometimes irrational view of things and of myself and of the things and or people around me.

19. Do you like to dance?

Not after i graduated from high school.

20. George Bush:

Is scheming. But he amuses me.

21. Imagine your first child is a girl, what do you call her?

Nicolette <thats the first name that came up to me!!>

22. Imagine your first child is a boy, what do you call him?

After all my self-absorbed peculiarities; my self-righteous claim to my existence; my seemingly undaunted countenance; my unrelenting perspective to intelligence; in short, after being a total oximoron and a couple of sleepless nights, i had the courage and the heart to talk to my God.

I humbled myself and prayed to Him. I came clean before Him and spoke to Him in my most sincere of thoughts. I dropped my sword. I removed my armor. I stood before him naked.

And today, He answered my prayer. Today is the day when i have come to realize that indeed God is with me and by me.

Truly, He is listening. Truly, i am blessed.
