After a few months of having this idea in my head, I've come to the next stage of getting it on paper. To give you more detail to what my cryptic message means... many months back, asked for ideas for a piece he was doing, regarding Black Cat. Well, seeing as how this is a fav character of mine, I wanted to participate somehow to help. So I gave him an idea for a pose. Playful and yet very pinup glam sexy if you will. I loved what he did with the pose. Alas, it was not used because of layout problems. The pose just stuck with me and I have tried to draw it out the way I would create it (angle wise) and I can't do it. I have it in my head but just can't put pencil to paper.

The pose and angle are for an idea I had for one of my characters from Sonic Jack. I then decided, why not both female main characters in the same pose? It could work!

Well, still I was stuck on the drawing board (literally).

Today, a friend from the artist jam talked to me before I left. She is a really cool cat and she's very laid back. The best thing about this was I didn't feel awkward asking for the help of her posing for me. And she from what I gathered, didn't feel I was going to be some sleaze asking her to pose nude. Which is awesome. (I'm not asking her to pose nude btw)

So, I have a model now that's willing to help me out when we both have a chance.

After I get this out of my system, it's one block less to accomplishing more Sonic Jack artwork.

My roster of things to do is as follows.
Commissioner Gordon commission.

That's it. lol Nothing else that I HAVE to do.
The rest of it is artwork for prints and pinups that I just want to do to sell.

After this commission, I'll probably get back to Sonic Jack and get it back on track.

My goal last year around this time, due to my loss of well quite a bit of my life, was to have it done and printed by now, or at least by Christmas. Needless to say due to many setbacks and emotional drains, that goal was never accomplished.

We'll see if I can't get it done next year then. I am closer than I was last year at least. We'll see how it goes. I just hope I have a cheering section to keep me going this time around. It always helps afterall, to have people excited and wanting to keep you just as excited for the project as they are to see it finished.

UPDATE- I just found out that I totally misunderstood the agreement between me and the company... I don't have three blanks to wait and draw for people... I have to do those now and send them in with the cards I did for them. Alas, I didn't know that till tonight, about 6 hours after I sent off the cards to them... So it seems I need to crank out some more pieces and get the cards sent back to them... yikes.

Hey all-
Now, this is something I have really been weighing against, but I'll at least post it here to get it outta my system.

I was contacted last week to do 10 cards for their upcoming release of cards. I had to do one character, per card... different characters. No doubles. This was a fun experience for me as some of the characters I had always wanted a reason to draw but never found one. The other characters were fun, but I had never heard of them... so a romping through the internet to find information came for a few hours.

I got the cards on the afternoon of Halloween. I started penciling them the Sunday after. Here we are on Sunday now (for me anyways) and I have one card left to color.

The Characters I was asked to draw are as follows:

Kolchak the Nightstalker

Once I'm allowed, I'll post the cards that I created.
I sent scans in to the person who contacted me and they were received with positivity, which is good lol.

I was told I didn't HAVE to send in scans as that's not what they really do with signature cards, but when I did Marvel Masterpiece 3, that's what we were supposed to do and I just kept that mentality.

Anyways... I have one card left to color and then they are shipped off.

Now here's what I'm really weighing on posting.
I have three (3) return cards that I'm willing to sell. You can message me if interested and I'll tell you the price. Marvel Masterpiece 3 I had a few people contact me on DA and they were happy with what I gave them, (at least they said so lol) So perhaps I can find someone here interested again.

I don't see a time limit on getting these done so... I understand christmas is coming up but these also make decent gifts for collectors...

I'm only allowed to draw the designated characters you see above. Well, I'm sure I can do a few more from their line of titles, but I'd like to keep it to the 10 I have above.

The rule for these cards is.... I have to send them in to the company, so they can get a gold foil stamp that states they are exclusive artist edition cards. Then, I can ship them off to you.

So... anyone interested here, send me a note. I'll tell you how much it is and you can tell me if you're still interested, and what character you want.

Full Color/ waist up, mind you is what I'm doing. I MAY give a little more figure to the females, but I'm not entirely sure.

Well, today is my birthday. With that, I've decided to do something I normally don't get to do... reach one of a few goals. I have a few halloween pieces I've been meaning to do and have yet to get them done... for three years now. I'm going to try and get them as close to finished by midnight as I can. Will I post them by tonight? Probably not. But I'll see what I can do.

After that, I can get back to some of the commissions I have.

For those interested in knowing... the Cheetah Commission that I posted recently... the client LOVED it and has opted to have me do a few more... so that's a major plus.

Glad you guys have enjoyed it.

Once more, I'm pretty open for commissions. Sketch cards/ 9x12/ 11x14/ 11x17 and digital work as well.

During this 'down time' I'm going to work on Sonic Jack as well.

As a rare few who look at my page know,I'm working on a story called Sonic Jack. It's a comic strip saga of a man thrown into a world where Science Fiction to us, is Science Fact. Well, When I first started doing this, I was using the canson comic strip board. But I felt I could do better with a bigger surface to draw on. So I did some research and got a few answers. But some things that have been submitted for me are a little excessive. 10x25 is a bit much and hard to carry around. 5.5x13 is good, but I feel there can be a bit more expansion in my work, if I were to work bigger. Mind you,everything that's given to me is from measurements that will reduce to the proper size for a comic strip. My plan isn't to have this syndicated (yet) in newspapers but to be in a book. Some people don't understand the concept of a comic strip. They think of Garfield or Hogarth and that's it. They think of it as starting point for gag, joke, punchline. It's not just that tho. I think my story would be better received if it were in a comic strip format rather than a comic book standard format. It takes a lot more ingenuity if I were asked, to create a comic strip and keep it entertaining to the point you are craving more story from the next strip. You have more room and you can flood the page with information with a standard comic page and you can lead the reader in various ways.

Here with a comic strip, you only get a certain amount of room and that's it. No extra panels can fit because what you're doing, gets reduced down drastically.

So... I've been trying to do the math in my head and I suck at math... let's say... 8 x 16 or even 10x16 might reduce down to the proper size I'm looking at which is like... 4.75 x 8.35 I think.

It also helps that the original art would be a little more valuable to a person who would want to purchase it, if it were a bit bigger I'd think lol.

Anyways... I have 2 formats I've gone through so far. I am thinking I'll start doing a new format next month and see how I like it. Bigger and the ability to really go all out for ideas on angles and various details perhaps. Maybe it'll just be one of those rare moments when I want to get a lot of detail into one strip and then go back to my 5.5x13

Just moving some stuff around... I moved the 50 Girls 50 pages to the scrapbook. I'm going to be uploading at least one commission I've done this week/weekend after I get it scanned tomorrow. It's 9x12 and I think overall, I like this one.

So, that said, I used this time to find out some interesting stuff atleast for me.

Last month I had 1112 visitors this year so far I've had 10,551 Which to give you a better reason why I'm saying this... this year has had the most visitors I've ever had on here. Which is cool. Thanks to those that show up.

I will also say that Last year, was the first year people actually paid me for shit on DA. It's almost the most money that came in from DA. I was doing my marvel masterpiece artist proofs for 125 a piece. Sold I think 4 on here.

So you can see that deals I've been giving on this site have been a steal to say the least. And a rare few of you have taken me up on that offer. Thanks to those who helped me out when I needed it. Perhaps someday down the road I'll give it another try on here. Never truly know.

Now, reason for not a lot of artwork being posted...
I've had a commissioner that has paid me for a few pieces, but the stipulation was, I was not allowed to post them for fear of someone taking the artwork and manipulating it to their own devices. I can't really say no I won't do it. Money is money. And they aren't pornographic in the event you're asking.

I have one model I've been doing a piece for that's almost done. When I get it finished, I might post it up.

I have stuff I'm working on for a sketchbook for next year. Sonic Jack is going along smoothly I guess. If you're driving a jeep on pavement (and we all know how bumpy those trips are)

I've been spending time with a gal lately that's really important to me and in turn... she has given me new inspiration for some pinups. Yeah, you'll see a few pieces about her down the road.

I have a Sarah Palin pinup I'm doing and it will be available for purchase. Both the original and the prints from it.

I'm also trying to raise money to get a few jobs done around here that are a major necessity. No deals tho. You want a commission go to comicartcommissions.com and look up my name. You'll see my prices. and sizes.

One last note... my beloved Poison Ivy that I did earlier on... She's standing in front of a stump with vines and leaves and moss hanging behind her? Well that WAS for sale, but it is no longer available. It has been acquired by a VERY fortunate person. Both for themselves having the piece, and for me knowing it's gone to a good home.

As excited I am, I'm going back to work and will hope to hear from those of you interested in owning some artwork while I still have downtime in the near future. Remember, I may come off like an ass to some degree... I'm actually a nice guy, and easy to talk to. I'm willing to do almost anything art related for you. All you have to do is ask. Even in the news, people throwing out reasons why they're arrested, why they're fired, why they're hired, why they can't get a loan, why they can't make it in the world. I'm not saying it's just them, but they aren't helping the problem. An easy fix is usually only a fix that will last for a finite amount of time.

Now... in a way I'm the pot calling the kettle black but I'm also throwing out something that should be obvious to all yet isn't talked about.

Now for example... there's a gal that many artists know... Taylor Stevens. I've drawn this gal only a rare few times. As you can see I did a pinup (still in color stage) of Taylor as Valkyrie from Marvel Comics.

Now that's not the issue here. It's to give insight to whom I'm talking about lol.
What I liked was what transpired recently in a blog of hers. I won't mention the site because, well, let's face it. You can search and easily find it online.

Anyways. She apparently is having a time trying to find the Good Guys in the world. And I spoke out on my opinion and someone who apparently fits my ideological philosophy on the matter spoke out. Now is this something to get upset about? No, this is actually more amusing for myself than anything. It takes a lot of guts to post your opinion to the world and hopefully someone with an I.Q. over 140 will read it and say ... man, he's right!

Once again though... No one listens to me. So if Taylor doesn't like it or believe in it... not my problem. This is just my opinion and hey, opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one.

Aside from that... life is going OK for the most part over here. Have had a lot of stressors form recently in life and having to take care of them is a handful. I decided a long time ago that having to deal with this type of crap is for those that waste their time not trying to be something. Not wanting to reach their goals because for idiot on the internet doesn't like what you say.

I've been busting balls getting Mafia Wars stuff done for my sketchbook, and getting a few pinups done that I have been paid for, now I have to deliver. Thankfully there's no deadline one them. BUT I like to get things done so I don't have them looming over my head.

A special note for Erick C. I have your Ms. Marvel inked and ready to mail to you. I'll mail it next week when I know you're back from SDCC.

We'll see how things progress from here. The Comic Strip is slowing moving forward. As Adam Hughes said "Drawing is like taking a hill in Korea. I don't need my own people fighting me to take it." And I don't need people going against me to get a job done. Gotta work in the same flow of productivity that I did with my commissions earlier this year.

He's my bro. He's been an inspiration to me for a few years now. And he's always been in my corner both professionally, and personally.
His detail in sketch cards is phenomenal and he's a great guy to talk to
The man is unstoppable and a talent that the world will soon know for his ACEO's more so than the world does now.
What can I say that hasn't been said or known about the man. He may not like a lot of his work, but I wish I had his stamina, talent and motivation to keep going. Also his humor.
She has a talent and ability to change her styles like the wind changes direction.
Stephane Roux - the guy is truly on top of the world. Love his style.
Frank Cho - don't know the man personally but I do like his ability to render women. I especially love his ability to use cross hatching in the style of for example Serpieri.
He has a style I have never seen anyone do before. It's a style that can't be copied. His determination to not quit and keep motivated is one of many things I look at him for.
Steven E Gordon- Not a day goes by that I don't thank God I have been able to introduce myself to this man and talk to him. His style is fresh and many people try to copy it, even me and you just can't do it. He's an animator and a director and to be honest... he's like a god to me. If I had the chance, I'd beg him with all the money I had to do the artwork to Sonic Jack.
Mike Wieringo- When I saw his work on Tellos, it was something fresh and new and I was attracted to his style fast and hard. His life story was one that made me think a lot about my own. And I'm glad I was able to find his art in a time of my life that I needed a pep talk of sorts to keep going.
Last but not least... Dave Stevens. His style is easily known as much as his name is. He had skill, talent, dedication, inspiration, motivation and an ability that every artist strives to acquire. Some get it all, most only get a few parts.

He's truly the definition of a master.

Kinda surprised at the 09 year thus far.
To put this into perspective, I had a rough year last year. This year isn't any brighter, BUT it's promising at some aspects. I've met new people, I've come to terms with some things that affected me last year, and the very beginning of this year. From loss of a so called girlfriend, to loss of a grandmother, to loss of my best friend, my dog Riley... all in one year, (within the last 4 months of the year... well, except for the girlfriend thing, that hell lasted a lot longer), it was pretty disheartening and I didn't know how to go on. A lot of it has to deal with you people, that kept me going. You still do and for the rare few that know of my comic strip... you people pushing me on, keeping me going is something I can't thank you enough for.

I looked at the numbers for a full year now...

Jeff Lafftery.

I know A LOT of sketch card artists. And I respect so many of them. I find myself, although not using their styles for my work, compairing my work to theirs. Jeff is one of them.
He's a realist. By that, I mean he draws realistic image. he doesn't draw the cartoon or comic book genre that you normally see. He can take scenes from movies, and render them sensationally in a form that is not forgiving. 2.5x3.5 image area is not a lot to work on. And you have to have some great eyes to work on that scale. My work is not able to be compared to his, due to the vast difference in style, but I wish I could realistically look at my work and his and say... I'm on the right path. In fairness to both of us... that's like comparing an 74 el camino to a 05 ferrari enzo. Can't be done effectively.

I will admit, I've asked Jeff earlier this year about doing a commission for me and he was gracious to accept. I learned a lot from him in those months and learned a lot more of him just recently too.

Many artists, not all but a good handful, are very egocentric. They feel artists that aren't up to their abilities, or general public are beneath their time to talk to. Many are just very rude, and wish not to give out 'secrets' of their success for fear you'll steal their thunder. Jeff is nowhere near that attitude and demeanor. He's the small percentage that I find, kind and willing to help and also willing to take the time to create a piece of art that you will hold on to for quite a long time. Possibly hand down to your kids.

He has a blog site [link] and I suggest you follow him. He updates daily with progress reports and artwork. And yes, he's doing, as I said, a commission for me.

We started with one image idea, but we scrapped it. We started on another, but something happened on that second attempt that made Jeff deserve a little more praise than what I could ever give him. Call it fate, or destiny whatever... but we talked for awhile about this change in plans before we carried on (the second time). I sent him a lot of reference for a different character to draw.
The thing that helped with Jeff was, my reference for said character, was a real person, with real photographs.

That character, is my Vanessa Asimov from Sonic Jack!
I told him there's two people that you could relate my character from. I originally designed her with Denise Milani in mind. But I started to see a little more of Ewa Sonnet in the face... today, I noticed that my artwork wasn't so much looking like Ewa, as it was looking like Denise again.

I opened up my browser, checked out Jeff's blog like I normally do and noticed a more rendered image of Denise for his update. That said, I read the description and was blown away. I was SO happy to see what he decided to do as I was starting to have second thoughts on using Ewa for the commission.

Would I have said anything? No, because I'd take a image of Ewa any day as well. But this has more meaning to me. And I can't thank you enough, Jeff for stepping in and doing this for me instead.

Now you're asking how much does this cost? Well, I can't give you a price. Jeff can tho. And I will say, it's fair. More than fair actually.

He's open for commissions, so if you're wanting a sketch card that has a taste of Drew Struzan in it. And to be honest... Drew and Jeff are up there on my idol list. Can I draw like them? No. It'll take me a long time before I can do that. I wish I could.

So add jeff to your watch list, either on here, or his blog.

Well, apparently someone listened to me!

I was at the comic shop today, picking up sketch card loaders (I ran out of the durable ones) and came across Bristol Board... Normally you get them in 9x12-11x14-14x17 and so on... They finally have 11x17! And... they have the 300 strathmore (with no non repro blue lines) AND 200 series WITH the blue guide lines!
Now for those of you that HATE the plate surface (smooth) which these were... they also have two VELLUM products of 11x17! Same deal!

VERY awesome.

I told the Canson people that in order to get my business they need to make 11x17 comic board like bristol and I'll change over. They have YET to do what I suggested. So, looks like I'll be getting board from bristol for awhile.

Now here's the thing... the place I go to, jacks the price up a little bit from places like Dick Blick art supply... but the price for this I could handle... It was something like 40 sheets for 14 bucks! 40 SHEETS! Not the 12 for 20.00+ at BLP for the super nice 400 3ply that I use for 11x17

Looks like I'm shifting back over to Bristols 11x17 due to inexpensive costs and I know how that board acts to my punishment! YEAH!

Sonic Jack is from Earth. He's engaged to a hot babe named Vanessa Asmiov, daughter to Dr. Dimitry Asmiov, astrophysics extraordinaire. Jack is a guy that has luck on his side and knowledge to boot. Which makes him highly dangerous in the right situations.

It's said a Man doesn't know his ability till he's faced with the toughest choice one can make. And he has a few of those on his plate. Wait till he finds out what happens in a few minutes.

He's from Nebraska... go figure, right? And his fiance and soon to be Father in-law, are originally from Russia. After the cold war ceased, Dimitry was offered a job that he just couldn't have found available behind the doors of Russia's government run schools. Teaching what he loved and able to work with science organizations to further the exploration of space. He found however, that life outside of Earth is possibly exactly like us. He received a 'WOW' signal from an operator at SETI many years ago and in his spare time, tried to search out the signal once again.

He found it. It wasn't something you would want to hear.

Making please to government officials, he's laughed at and fired from his schooling and kicked out of the organization he worked for. But during this time, a silver lining was found. Jack Brazzle. Descendant from William MAC Brazzle. (I added the extra z, don't gripe)

Jack is an entrepreneur and luck is always on his side in business. He's an avid adrenaline junkie and an inventor. In fact, he invented a sky car that with a little horsepower can jetison itself out of earths atmosphere and yes... be on the verge of outterspace. TOURS anyone?

He's cool and collected. He's not a spy, he's not an ex SEAL, he's never been in the military. He HAS however, friends that are SEALS, he HAS played paintball scenarios with people and he IS qualified to fire a sniper rifle and many automatic weapons... afterall... he's helped develop many black ops equipment packages for the military and government programs such as the CIA, FBI and so on.

He doesn't panic. He doesn't lose his cool and he hates using guns. Sure he makes em, sure he CAN use em, but he never likes what they stand for.

Vanessa, Dimitry and Jack are all going to find out that the world they live in, is about to expand vastly. And Jack is going to find out just how good he is at what he does.

Vanessa is an opportunist. She's a stressed out chick that thinks that everything needs to happen here and now. She loves Jack, but I'm thinking, for all the wrong reasons. We'll find out throughout the story.

Dimitry... he likes Jack. Afterall, Jack put him on his staff of employees for designs with various outer space exploration vehicles... No, we're not talking to the moon or mars... we're talking sending crews out for a few years and bring em back within the same timeline they left... yeah... wormholes.

So as you see this is sci fi based. And Jack is the kind of guy that makes cracks and one liners like Bruce Willis and James Bond combined.

Jack has come from a world where space travel and aliens are science fiction. He's about to see it's Science FACT. And many of the jokes you hear, one liners and stress diffusers will be based on the ideas of science fiction.

And you'll see if Jack will find the line he has to cross before picking up a gun and showing exactly what he means when he tells someone "Guns take me to a place I don't want to go."

So, there's a little taste of Jack and the crew from Earth.

If you put a speaker magnet on a piece of metal, after awhile that piece of metal becomes magnetized. So how do you put 4 wheels on a car chasis and not have it magnetize the car? Which goes into how do you shield the onboard computers from getting fried from the magnets?

Now think about the 4 wheel drive vehicles... how exactly would you put these spherical wheels on a jeep for instance and still be able to 4 wheel off road? You couldn't. The wheels would have to have so much magnetism to life the car up as tho they are shocks and still keep the tire inside the wheel well that it fits into.

Or waterfording. couldn't do it.

Anyone have an answer to these little puzzles?

The cost is back to normal now. And yeah, you get the same work, maybe a bit better for the price you pay normally for a sketch card commission.

Regardless... I want to take a moment to thank everyone that helped me out. I didn't rake in tons and tons of money, but the point of this was to pay off a tux and I met that mark and even went over a little. So I thank you for helping me, those who contacted me.

News on things happening with me (positive) - I was contacted by an art gallery and asked to showcase my art in their gallery for the month of July. Which means I have to kick it in to high gear and get some stuff done. WHICH means... the stuff that doesn't sell there, will be up for grabs elsewhere.... like here and stuff.

I was contacted by someone who was interested in Sonic Jack and wants to know when it'll be publishable. I'll be working on that in my spare time. My goal for having it ready at the end of the year, still stands... but it looks grim.

Positive - Was asked by a few models that I know, to come up with some cartoon characters of them for their websites. Some have already paid half down, others are waiting and we're still talking about what direction to go towards. Some are adult models, others are glamour models. More on that if allowed.

Positive - Got everything moved around in my office so I have stuff a little closer to me and not walking around trying to find stuff that I need... so that's a plus. Makes it easier and faster for me to work.

Mafia Wars is still ongoing and I'll have work up for that later in the summer.

Wrist is better. it's about 98%. I still say I should opt for a darth vader arm. But I want a DARTH VADER ARM and be able to use the force.

I have flare ups from time to time if I'm drawing (like this week) and the acupuncture does work. The electric shock seems to be rebuilding nerves and muscle sensation that was starting to go. I think I've prolonged this a bit so let's hope so.

Buddy (my new husky is finally learning the in's and out's of living here and I think he's finally starting to really like living here. He was born on a farm and lived on a concrete slab with his mom, dad and 5 siblings. He was bought to keep my other dog Lilly in a happier healthier state of being. After Riley died, she went into a depression and always wanted to have something to do. I don't blame her. But I can't keep stopping for an hour here and an hour there, to play ball with her and go for walks during the day. Buddy and Lilly have grown to really like eachother even tho Lilly gets really sick of Buddy being around at times. But I keep telling her, that's what you have to deal with when you have a new friend that lives with you.

Riley was annoyed by Lilly and Sadie when they first came here too. I didn't blame him lol. Buddy reminds me a lot of Riley, not just because he too is a husky, but because of his mannerisms at times. His character. I'm very proud of him, as he's learned to come down the stairs to the basement where I work (it's about 15 degrees cooler down here.) So now, Lilly has no place to escape from him

Personal life is still up in the air. Going through some hard times, but trying to get past them. It would help if I had more time with people that know the situation, to talk to em. Can't really help that tho (And I bet their really getting tired of talking to me about it HAHA) Anger isn't a great emotion to hold on to, and at the moment, it's holding on to me, I think. The commissions, oddly enough have helped me out with this situation as well. Gave me something to think about and push to get done to make other people happy.

Overall, I think things are slowly but surely getting better for me, and for many of us out there. I'm hoping anyways. Lord knows many of us need a pick-me-up.

Hey guys. Today... Friday... last day I'm taking 20 dollar commissions. So, you best contact me if you're interested. It's been said by many fellow artists and some fans that this deal is a steal and I can't agree more with them. My normal price for the sketch cards I'm doing, are a lot more and I think you guys can agree they're worth it. I'm no or or or but they aren't me either. (They're a lot cooler than I am) But we all have different styles and that's what makes us good at what we do! And a variety of styles (and prices) is always good for people who want commissions.

8.5 x 11 ink sketches will be emailed, not sent via snail mail. 600 dpi high rez scan will be sent to your email. Trust me, it's better than getting it snailmailed to you. It's instantly there, you can print it on anything you want, and if you want to color it... it's already in digital format.

So anyways... yeah... 11:59 PM I will not be taking anymore requests for 20 dollar commissions. (Those of you who have contacted me and asked to be on a waiting list, are still able to contact me when you're ready for the sketch.) I WILL come up with various sketch cards sometime after today that I will sell. I will not put them on eBay yet. I don't really know how eBay works just yet and I don't feel comfy with paying to put auctions up after some of the information given to me.

Thank you to all of you whom have helped me out in my time of need. This was the one time that I offered commissions that I had a great turnout. I hope it gets better as time goes on and I offer more sketches. I will warn you, I will not offer colored sketch cards for this low again. Black and white however, will be offered at that price in da future.

The one person I'd like to thank for helping is for suggesting I give this another try. I've done this offer three times now in the past year or so and rarely anyone jumps on board. It was disheartening for me and I went though wondering what I needed to do to make people WANT to purchase something from me. I had decided when Kristin suggested this, that I would NEVER to a commission offer again. But, she made me see the light and I thank her from the bottom of my heart for the help.

I have been asked recently by a handful of people "How do you do your cards?" I'm honored anyone would even want to know. I thought of saying "I draw them" But then I feel like some guy that wants to hide a so called 'secret' of how to break in to something...

It's pretty simple... unless I have a definite idea in my head I will sketch out ideas on the 3x5 post it notes. And I'll go over some ideas, with new ideas. Yes, btw... I do look at reference. Ranging from other artists, my own work and .. porn. No, not entirely, I'll look at photo reference that I think fits the situation or that I can turn into what I'm asked to draw.

I only use blue pencils or red pencils for sketching most of the time and for fleshing in my work. Why? I don't really know. I guess I like the idea that I can erase the lines to a faint cropping of work that I can ink over and the graphite doesn't clog up my ink pens like normal graphite would.

A few years back I started taking more of an interest in animation and although I've learned for various animators that they don't always use non photo blue, or red... some do, for whatever their reasons are.

After I get the sketch in my head, I start sketching it out on the actual card. I then ROLL a kneaded eraser over the card. No, I don't rub the card, I roll the kneaded eraser over the card! Why? Try it and you'll notice the more you ROLL the eraser over the card, the more graphite or pencil you'll pick up and the lighter the work will get. The lighter the work gets the less you have to erase AFTER you're done inking.

Then I take a small break and pray to the Gods of inking and God himself and pray that I don't screw up the drawing. After I ink it and I have a gallon of sweat at my desk *ew* I pull out various copic markers that I need to color and I start laying out the idea for what I need to color. I like using the Copic Sketch markers with the brush tip because it's almost like painting. While markering in 'flats' I start to decide where the light source is and try to 'feel' where colors go.

I'll range from colored pencil, acrylic ink, markers, charcoal, wax pencil, graphite... anything I need to get the job done.

I have used Blue Line Pro cards many times but anymore, I'll try to only use them for the charities that BLP puts on like their Comics 2 Cures auction. Otherwise... I don't like the non photo blue on the card. It detracts from the final piece of art (for me) I use bristol vellum board (I don't like it but I use it.) Why don't I like it? Because there's bleed through. It's a catch 22... I like it because there's no blue line on it... I hate it because it's not as durable as the BLP cards. I'm trying to get my own line of sketch cards produced, but it's hard finding the right weight and the right company that won't bend me over the table for price.

After I get the card done, I'll check it out... think it sucks, scan it... cry a little because I think it sucks worse (scanner doesn't produce well... need better scanner) And then reluctantly post it for all to see and pray someone comments on the work posted. I think I spend more time on this site than I do my own email.

Anyways... that's it really. I'll come up with various ideas for backgrounds after I get into the coloring process of the figure. I don't like leaving a background white unless I really have no idea or interest in adding more 'eye candy' than needed.

I just went to get fitted for a tux for a friends wedding. My friend and his fiancee decided to really screw up on this whole thing... It was a bad sign when the bride to be decided she hated the pants on a tuxedo because it makes you look like a waiter... what friggin tux doesn't?

I then get the price for my tux... 170.50 I put it on my credit card... it was declined.

Now before you start after reading this two part contest essay..
I don't want to see 'because' and I don't want you kissing my ass. I want the truth. I want complete honesty.

I mean, if you think I'm cute and you like what I do... that's fine. But if you tell me I'm a God in your eyes and the best artist in the world... no, not going to accept that. You need to tell me as detailed as possible, WHY you watch me and my art. And WHY you should get a sketch.

(BTW, I suggest if you ever want to meet Lou Ferrigno, you bring at least 60 bucks in cash with you... make it singles that you bring with... no, better yet... pennies.)

I went to sit at my table at 830 am. I was to be there at 10, but I found out traffic was lighter on a Saturday morning than I remembered. I got my free comics (YAY first time I ever went to actually get them) and waited for the humor to ensue. Well, it didn't take long and a kid shows up to ask about sketches.

My buddy was with me as he was setting up his table next to me. The kid was in his teens, working at a local Taco Bell and hadn't slept in perhaps... 18 hours, as he was waiting in line when he got off work at 4 am. (he and two other kids were the only ones in line at that time.)

He asked if we would do a star wars portrait (We were doing free sketches for people, but there is a limit to what we'll accept as free. Read on) We knew there was something up because he wouldn't look us in the eye when he was asking us about this. I said, "Define star wars portrait." He said, well, I don't want anything detailed like you have in this piece here (spacegirl that I brought with me, nicely inked.) But I want Darth Vader standing with a bunch of storm troopers in the back and some Jedi, but I don't want them clumped together.

Dougie and I laughed a little bit and said, "That's a commission. We do those, but not while sitting here today. You can get ahold of us tho and we can do it when we're not here."

HE said, cool, but what's the difference between what you do here and a commission? So I schooled the boy in the ways of art talk... A free sketch today, is a sketch of what you want, and we give you something and you like it and take it. A commission is, we do what you want, we give you that piece and you take it and like it, AFTER you pay for it."

He said, ok, so how much would this cost? So, I explained there are a variety of determining factors in finding out how much this would cost. Afte 15 minutes of talking to get it out of him, we came to a price of 350.00. He said ok, cool. I said, let me rephrase that... It's THREE HUNDRED Fifty Dollars... NOT Three dollars and FIFTY cents.

He said, no I got that. So how do we do this? I siad write down your name and contact info and I'll get in touch with you this week. So he did and as he walked out the door he said, "I better hear from you this week." I said, "Oh, you will."

I'm pretty sure he's going to say No even if I do call him.

I had a few inquiries on commission work so that was a plus. No one bought my sketch cards that I brought with me... and understandably so. I also due to the prices I posted for those sketch cards... got people far away from my table that thought they had to pay for a sketch. (All though I had it written that you get a FREE sketch today)... No one reads anymore... real shame.

Anyways... 3 hours in... I'm sketching away and this Mom with her kids shows up (hot mom too) And wants... the Millenium Falcon sketched for her son...

Dougie and I looked at one another and he waited for me to say no... but like an idiot I took the challenge... I said this is going to be Jon Riggle's Version of the millenium Falcon because I don't have reference for this. (I knew the general look of it) but the kid wanted it highly detailed... ugh... so I get done with that and she said now, would you do one for me? I was like... um, ok? WHO (I made sure to use WHO and not WHAT) she said she wanted a tie fighter drawn.... WTF?!

So, I did the best I could. She loved both and moved on to the next guy... Dougie whom... what did HE get to draw? YODA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I get tech drawings and he got the fun stuff?! UGH

Anyways... we were doing fine after that... I got a lot of requests for storm troopers which all I did was the helmets and a straight on view...

I suddenly hear some kid making trumpet like sounds from his mouth... of the star wars theme, which I didn't mind at first... but then, he changed songs on me, to jaws, raiders of the lost ark, show tunes like broadway and every other pep band song I used to play in highschool and college... FOR A GOD DAMN HOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY TABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND HE GOT LOUDER DOING IT! He was given signals to shut up but being a kid, didn't take the hint. I suddenly got a headache. I was starting to fall ill from said headache and I hadn't eaten all day, except for an oatmeal rasin cookie. First off, I loved it. I'm hoping there's more coming our way. I didn't know till I started searching for more information this week that I knew of a good handful of artists that worked on this gig. Many, not face to face, but I know them through here, or conversations in the past. To all of you whom worked on this adventure... GOOD JOB!

There were some people that mentioned there were some misspellings in the show that they spotted. I didn't spot anything, I was more in awe of how the animation and story were rolling.

This kinda brought a patriotic tear to my eye, because it was done by many people that grew up with GI JOE like I did, and they didn't fall through with it like many people did back in the 80's. It wasn't the Good guy wins on every level of the show. Losses, mistakes and getting caught in fire fights made this more of a 'realistic' action. It was more of a believable storyline, so I'm quite sure a lot of work went into the storyline.

As my bro said, the voice acting for Cobra Commander was great.
And overall, as my bud stated... That was hella sweet!

I had been looking for style sheets for some of the various characters. I know those are a no-no to be leaked out... some photos have shown up, but not of the characters I was looking for lol. Or, just one picture that was distorted... So anyone can help me with that, I'd appreciate it lol.

When I found out there were style sheet photos out there, I noticed on DA a lot of people had work up that was exactly what I had found on the show... or storyboards... then it hit me... had a deal in this as did and then I saw how so many others had a hand in it too that I felt was just awesome to see. I'm a fan of many of the artists that were involved in this gig. So that was an added bonus. I also found other artists such as

I am not someone that has watched a zombie movie in a long time now. I haven't played RE, I haven't looked at anything zombie related...

I woke up almost in tears filled with rage and ready to knock out the first person I saw, earlier.

Now before I say anything, let me explain that my dreams are very realistic. I can feel, I can sense things... the environment has a smell, the heat or cold of the environment, the stench that may be with people and I read and write in my dreams. Something that is said to be impossible.

This dream really had me because it was the first time I had to wake up to avoid death.

I was in a building with 15 people. Outside... the world had changed into zombies. It was a medical building I was in. One guy started the mess by opening the door to flee because of cabin fever. He was the first to die and it was a bitch to get that door closed. Women are freaking out, guys are screaming out commands. And no one is thinking logically on how to handle the problem.

The door gets closed by the viewing box to outside is broken. It's big enough that you could fit your arm through it but it's high enough you can't reach a handle of lock on the door.

One by one tho, everyone starts turning into zombies that are in the building. Someone got infected and it then turned into a mercy killing that was unethical for one girl... who was the next to go. I think it was my ex, I don't know. One could hope.

Eventually various reasons are thrown out at me as to why we can't kill this person or that person and I'm fed up and start to give up. I find a non lethal arsenal in the basement of the building that I fashion into highly lethal. I in real life know how to mix various chemicals that can be toxic to inhale, but also camouflage where you are.

I start mixing up batches of this stuff because I'm now one of two left. I'm taking down various zombies but someone let a door open. One left and we're both freaking out.

We hear a knock at the door previously mentioned and a voice saying the Marines are here to help us... open the door. I recognized the voice as being the first guy who went out... A new kind of zombie, or he wasn't fully changed yet. I throw my elbow through the broken glass and knocked him in the face, broke his nose. Suddenly the opening got bigger and lowered to the ground like a doggy door. He started crawling through the opening and the guy with me attacked him with a syringe on a board. He was biten however and I had to put him down.

The guy crawling through the opening was still on his stomach so I slammed my knee on his back to break the spine, he was erratic in his movements and I wanted till he clenched his jaw to scoop under and pull his head back till I broke his neck and ripped his head off his body.

I leaped off him and started walking for an opening but noticed zombies all walking around very calm. I didn't have a prayer left and I just barreled my way through and got to a point where I felt a tap on my shoulder. I threw my arm back to knock a person out and was ambushed by two girls who started to attack my neck and arms. I started screaming that I screwed up and I woke up with my fists in the air ready to hit anyone that was by me.

I've had dreams where I was in Iraq, Somalia, I've had dreams where I was in a post apocalyptic country... I always prevailed tho to some degree. I've had dreams where I was fighting with Satan himself... and that was a walk in the park compared to this dream.

This just freaked me out beyond belief.

So... I want to ask... Has anyone else been having some weird dreams like this lately?

This just goes to show, no one shows up when I plan something... so this is why I don't plan a damn thing in my life. lol

No offense to those that couldn't go due to illness. No biggie there. I didn't go for the same reason. Didn't want to infect anyone. It was weird too! I was laying on my futon and all of a sudden it felt like I was being dragged or pulled an inch from where I was. I didn't move. I wasn't convulsing due to muscle spasms. So, don't know what the hell was wrong.

meh.

Let's see... what else... May 2nd is coming up soon. Krypton Comics is where I'll be for about 8 hours, doing sketches... God willing my wrist will be pretty much fixed by then. I'm bringing pain killers and a wrap for my wrist regardless.This year... just inks, no colors. And I'll pry just sit on head shots again. Maybe a little bit of a body shot, but not as much detail as I was putting into these others from last year.

If I was doing sketch cards, that would be something different.

But no one wants those for free comic book day.

I was able to photograph this weekend, at the rodeo, 4 rather hot cowgirls that I'll be painting later on. Don't know if it'll be by hand or computer. I want to make prints of this if I can. The theme for it...The 4 Angels of Salvation. Kinda the opposite of the 4 Horsemen. Which I REALLY want to do a painting of that too.

Oh... I just found out that there are two books at amazon that any Animator reading this should think about getting. I was reading the reviews and talked to my friend Steven E Gordon and he said he'd buy em if he was just an artist. He actually HAD the notes that the book has, but lost em. So he was really happy to hear they are out to buy online.

The Author of said Notes... are you ready? Walt Stanchfield from Walt Disney Studios... back in the day! Yeah! two volumes. very reasonably priced. Vol 1 is 23 bucks and change Vol 2 is 19 and change.

Supposed to help with learning animation and the reason and basics of dynamic drawing... I figure this may help me with Sonic Jack, who knows... either way it's a great collection to my so called book colleciton. Right next to the Zombie Survival Guide. ... yeah, I need to invest in better books. I do have my 4 year Art History book still... does that count? No? Well,

meh.

I guess that's all for now. I have to retouch photos for the next two days and get those ready for the clients. Then... I'm off to talk to my friend Angie about doing some artwork for her website and get this... I'm GETTING PAID FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm almost done with your sketch you won a few months back too. Just have to add the sword and a little detail here and there and it should be done. Hope you like it when you see it. I was messing around with an idea I got from Feng Zhu with using a 10% grey marker for making my perspective grids... well, I took it a step further and kinda like what I"m seeing for some sketches...

Perhaps I'll give this a shot for free Comic day. Instead of doing my red pencil or blue pencil drawings and then inking... I'll use 10% grey marker to do my underdrawing and then ink it afterwards. The grey marker (prismacolor) fades to almost nothing. You can still SEE some of it, but it fades drastically compared to when you first lay down the line... which most everyone already knows.

It's just I never thought to do it for quick sketches like I do for free comic day.

If I get good at it, I'll continue to do it for con sketches... don't know. some sketches perhaps... all depends.

I've been talking to NAR! lately and watching him work on his 'ACEO's' and I've learned a lot just by watching. I'm the type of person that has to see it to comprehend it and apply it.

If I could get a few other artists to do this for me... I think I could really break out of this block I've encased myself in.

After seeing NAR! work on his cards it's given me more ideas for sketch cards and being a bit more serious than I take myself already... do it for fun, but do it because your wanting to have fun (and make some coin).

It's been said not to take these sketch cards or ACEO's too seriously and don't put your heart and soul into them... well, when you can make 500-1,000+, I think you can and looking at NAR!'s work, I can see how he could easily pull that off. Anyone that looks at his work has to say... there's a lot of detail in them and a lot of work. I love looking at em.

Jeff Lafferty is another one. The man is astounding. He uses various mediums and the work is rather spellbinding. At least to me.



Bad news for me... I sent off 60 bucks worth of materials to a customer in the UK earlier in March and he has yet to get them. Now, I hope for the sake of all that is holy, this is something I won't have to give his money back and be out those materials. If anyone has any thought, throw it my way please.

Back to good news... well, Monday is coming... and hopefully it'll be fun for all.

Thank you to everyone that's given me their support in the past few years. Especially by brother, Pat Carlucci and bro Steven Sanchez. I value all that you've given me for advice and knowledge.

Jon Meyers too. I knew him back in college and he's grown from a guy doing coloring books for his interterm class, to working on high end comics in the field with the superstar status he deserves.

And for all those who keep cheering me on. I thank you emensly.

Let's hope all this comes to prosper something to a maximum level of goody goody things.

I had received an e-mail a few days ago about the Comic Sketch Cards for Cancer Auction and today is the day they do go up! So here's what the e-mail read...

Well Thursday I go to the doctor to get a consultation on my wrist. We'll see what the diagnosis is. Carpal, Tendonitis, muscle ripped from bone, strain... whatever. I'll pry do the acupuncture as it's a lot cheaper than I expected all tho the paraffin wax is a backup plan.

So, at least you know why no art and no Sonic Jack. I've been coming up with new ideas on where to go with my story after I get him on the admiral's ship and a slightly different ending that I may do for the published book, and not the web comic. Never know...

To those of you whom have been sending me wishes, prayers and other kindly props lately, I thank you from the bottom of my heart! I couldn't ask for nicer people to show concern for me. And the warmest of regards towards me as an artist... Those compliments will not be forgotten. I thank you emensly for those.

For now... I need to go lay down for a few hours and get ready for the photography side of my life today... I hate this part, because I'd rather be photographing models, or high school seniors... something with creativity... not this crap.

So, I started thinking as I was drawing blanks (pardon the pun) for my Sonic Jack story... Web Comic or Published first time out?

Seeing as how Diamond as giving me the royal screw over with their new policy (and many others in the same boat or paralleled boats) perhaps it's not the wisest thing to do, to print this up at the end of the year. Perhaps an online comic for now, would be the better route.

I have a question tho; If I were to publish it online, would you still want to buy the same story in book form? You've seen the format I'm looking at doing. It's different, you don't see it much and it's small and compact. Take it anywhere if you wish type of thing. Plus it's tangible. Webcomic, sure you can print off the page, save it whatever... but I'll tell ya... if that's the case, and I know many will do that if they want, the artwork isn't going to be crisp and it's not going to be the same size as a printed page and I may even watermark it so it can't get printed and sold. Hell, I might make it with flash so it's harder to take the pages off the net anyways. Never know.

So I'm wondering... Which would be better to do? Online, I can generate a possible fanbase that will want a printed version with a few bells and whistles that you don't get from the online story (sketches and whatnot).

If I go the book route, I have the copies ready to go, yet I gotta work hard to show people at conventions or where ever, that this is a book you'd really like to buy. I'm not a car salesman so perhaps the web is a better way to go at this time.

Thoughts would be appreciated.

The facebook renders that I keep posting on here... have animation to them. You can see how I go about drawing my characters... basics are still there when doing these facebook renders. I just change a few things up when working on paper or in photoshop. So if you're interested, go over to my myspace page and play the animations as you see fit.

It can get boring just watching drawing and coloring, so I find it really cool that some of the music I have on my page blends really well with the drawings. Certain drawings with certain songs.

I'm glad I did. I love him with all my heart and pray that I see him again soon. I know that sounds bad to even suggest but I'd be a liar if I thought otherwise. And by the sounds of things... 2011/2012 (whichever you believe in) the end of the world will be coming so, perhaps that's a good stopping point, eh?

Sorry to be so dramatic and dark today. It's not my intention to be. Just as I said... having a very hard time dealing with him being gone. Um, anyways... I posted up the pages for you guys to see. I wasn't going to, due to certain issues that were thrown in my face after I was done with it and the fact the artwork doesn't look that great, compared to some of the stuff I've been doing. But, you can't expect not to evolve and perhaps this is a good thing for someone else that's having troubles with their artwork? I mean... I'm not perfect by any measure, but I'd like to think I've evolved in my artwork over the last few years. And I hope by showing this work, it'll give someone that's having doubts of their work... there's always a chance you'll jump barriers and overcome obstacles to create better works of art both for yourself and for others to see... and possibly get paid for.

That said... enjoy the stuff I've posted today knowing that there was a lot of love that went into it. Not the best work in my life and I was learning how to draw comics at this time all on my own. Rarely did I get any tips. It works for what it is tho.

Oh and one thing... never get swindled into doing ALL the work yourself. It's a good way to understand what goes into making a comic... but don't do it all the time. Just a word of advice.

On a happier note... I'd like to thank all the people that have started to come to my page and take notice of me. I'd like to thank those of you whom I've been able to get to know and create friendships with. I really appreciate the time you've given to me. I wish I could do more for all of you. I'm not a superman tho... I'm just a guy with a bigger heart than I once thought.

Damn I hate being emotional.
