:bulletpurple::bulletblue::bulletred:Welcome to the long awaited 'Grand Re-Opening' of our community Amateur-Manips! As you may have noticed there are manynew little tweeks and add ons to the club and we now have a spiffy new submissions system and a chat room! You can check out out last news journal ([link]) for more information on these. Right now I would like to introduce our new contest: Your new mission is to create a unique design for the clubs journal. Make sure the design can easily be incorperated to fit with the CSS and a color scheme that work in both Internet Explorer and FireFox. You must atleast make art for the header (the top of the journal where the clubs name will be displayed) but you may also make an optional footer (bottom of the page) and a horizontal divider. When you submit your entry, remeber to keep your idea of how tihngs will flow in mind and write anything into the note that you think we should know about your design! All technical CSS work is being done by a very kind proffessional so all you have to worry about is making it beautiful!
*No mature content please, and please notice all submissions will be held private untill judging to help ensure unique and creative peices!. We may alter some peices to fit into the CSS format if used, but only with your permission! Watch the club for the CSS script design which will be displayed within the next few days!*

I have transfered the old gallery and the submissions from our inbox to the new collections system. This system has proved its self in other very popular clubs as an efficient easy way of dealing with submissions. This way ALL page views, favorites, and comments go directly to the original artist and admins spend less time in the inbox, and more time on events! The main gallery will be used specificly for club bussiness and featuring contest winners. From now on it would be helpful if you sent all submissions in as a thumbnail (FAQ #729: How can I add a deviation thumbnail to my notes?) with any thing you think we should know, or a friendly hello is fine :3

To those wo have been wondering, the club WILL be re-opening this summer. I am looking to hire 1 or 2 ADMINS to help the club run quicker and more smoothly, and have been putting serious thought as to how the club can be improved.
The submissions piled high in my in box will all be submitted before the grand re-opening (sorry for te LONG delay).

As I now have the finances, the club WILL have a subscription year round, and WILL have public contests with a prize or two :3 the first contest might happen sooner than you think!

Our sixth event has come around to see us hit 4000 pageviews! This time you voted for a specific peice of literature and I have tried my best to choose an internationally well known peice that allows for many interpretations and entertaining scenes to pick through. The votes are in and it seems the members of *amateur-manips would like a new fresh idea from the minds of thier admins! So, in accordance with the last club poll this club event will be based on a rhyme I'm sure most of you know! Ring around the rosie is a song most children have known and has many versions, interpretations, and suspected origins. Your challenge this time around is to create a unique manipulation inspired by the small rhyme. Try to think of all the different forms of the poem and write the version you used, and your interpretation of its meaning and origin within your description. I hope to see many of your best works! You do not have to use all the images, you can use one, two, or all three if you like. I really wish you luck in finding UNIQUE uses for each stock image, for example, the "scene" photo doesn't have to be a background, there are many elements within a photo that can be used!

Ryan Christopher is One Year old. For most of his life he has been on Chemotherapy as he has a extremely rare brain tumor which was diagnosed at three months old.

Ryans next MRI is in December, nobody knows what the result could be. Financial problems are becoming a problem as Ryans Mother cannot work as Ryan is always sick. If Ryans situation in December becomes worse then Fundraising will begin to take him to MD Anderson for a consultation in the United States.

It is suggested by Oncology that in Ryans lifetime he may battle more than one cancer. Ryan will have to come off of Chemo in April as Etoposide Oral VP16 [link] can cause Luekimia and after 12 months it is an increased risk.

Well I have returned! I of course will participate, and my manip will be posted aswell o.o; On saterday, July 21st all submissions will be entered to the gallery at once. We are all here together!

So lets dig through our galleries and scrap folders to find that piece that started it all ^.^ it doesn't matter when you did it, it could have been 3 years ago or just last night! Don't be nervous, this is a club about learning and even I am an amateur too!

*UPDATE: The submission deadline will be extened to the end of the month! Partly because we only had 3 submisions :/ Soooooooo, you guys now have a little more time to participate and dig up those old manips! I'll be expecting to see my inbox flooded by the 31st! ^.^

As of today I will no longer be accepting new DA stock pages. My intention was to build up a decent sized index to get people started and the space filled very quickly! If you have a favorite (or generally useful) stock site thats not on DA we do need a few more of those!

Tutorials! They are so hard to find!
It's difficult I know, to get the right kind!
The searching and shuffling, isn't fun.
I know it's hard, but please don't run!

But which ones right, it's your best guess.

^.^ heh, like my poem? Well anyway I couldn't figure out how to rhyme this next part so I'll just say it! The club really needs you to note in a few really good tutorial sites. Now I don't mean the walkthrough tutorials, I mean step by step tutorials on how to use a specific function or create a certain effect. For example, if someone were to ask how to make a glowing effect around an object in their pic, the tutorial would center on the process of creating that single effect; rather than showing how the artists made a whole picture. There a few really good tutorials on DA but I know there are a ton more on the rest of the net! Please contribute to the club and take a few minutes one night to surf around a few sites! Who knows, perhaps you will learn something along the way!

This is our FAQ page! Here we hope to answer some of your more basic questions and direct you to extra tutorials and explinations of each subject! If you have a question that you think should be on here, note us or comment this journal and we will try our best to help you!


:bulletpurple: What is a Photomanipulation? :bulletpurple:

I figured this was a good one to start with. Alot of people think that adding sepia or blur to a pic makes it a manipulation. Well sorry to hurt your little hearts, but a picture isn't concidered a manip unless you have altered it in ways you couldn't normal in a dark room. There are two general ways of creating a manip (which are usually used together anyway) and that's with blending modes and basicly cut and paste.
'Cut and paste' usually involves laying several pieces over and around eachother and personaly using the blend, erase, and draw tools to connect and smooth out the picture. Fewer layers are usually used of direct masking but some often are to create effects such as beams of light and contrast/color differences.
'Blending modes' use options such as softlight, overlay and multiply to blend the picture or several pictures together. This is a tecnique used mostly of textures and some backgrounds.

The following section was taken from Reference.com

'Masks used for photography are used to enhance the quality of an image. Representations of a scene—whether film, video display, or printed—do not have the dynamic contrast range available to the human eye looking directly at the same scene (which is itself constrained in the range it can take in at one time). Therefore, adjusting the contrast in an image helps restore some of the perceived qualities of the original scene. These adjustments are typically performed on "blown-out" highlights, "crushed" or "muddy" shadow areas, where clipping has occurred; or on desaturated colors. These photographic masks are peculiar in that they are often produced using the image itself as the basis, and applied recursively upon itself.
Masks used to produce other effects are similar to those used in painting.'

In photomanipulation we use masks to better the picture by laying other images over the working piece, or by adjusting contrast, color, and opacity of a selected image. Here is a few basic DA tutorials! [link] [link]

Stock is the photos other artists, or even your self, have taken for you to create photo manips and other art peices with. A stock photo usually is a picture of a whole object or person, in good light, that can be easily manipulated into different forms.
Textures are also another form of stock. These pictures are intended to add depth and, well, texture to your peice of art. Textures are often added in a seperate layer, using a rather light opacity to create an effect or look that you can't create easily by painting over. An example would be using a crinkled paper texture around the edges of your photo to make it look older... or over laying another layer onto a sweater to make it look more realistic after you have maniped the crap out of it (Just for example!! There are a million other ways to use texture!!).

Beware though! Hello deviants,
Welcome to Amateur-Manips! You have stumbled upon a club dedicated to amateur and beginner photomanipulation artist. Here we strive to promote our members artwork through journals, news articles, contests, club events, collections, and the clubs own gallery. This clubs aim is to support little known artists develop their skills and owner personal style to created everything imaginable. Members have the oportunity to add art to our collections, and participate in events/contest made specificly to exercise their abilities, granting them much deserved exposure. Our resources are updated regularly; we have a large collection of tutorials, stock sites, and affilliates. We also offer support to anyone who has questions or in need of a little help. If you would like to become a manip artist, or further develop your manipulation skills you are welcome to join =amateur-manips and have some fun with us!

:bulletblue:Club submissions should be send as a thumbnail within a note. FAQ #511: How do I post thumbnails of my art on the Chat Network or Forums?

:bulletblue:ALL submissions following the guildlines will be accepted; nothing is ever "not good enough", people are here to learn and we understand that.

:bulletblue:As an active participant in this club it is requested, but not nessecary, that you add a link to our main page in your signature. This is to help get our club noticed and to generate more exposure for the members.

:bulletblue:As a new member the club encorages you to submit the very first manip you ever made! This is sort of an initiation, it show we all started somewhere or ARE starting right now! This will not count towards your 2 submissions per month.



:bulletpurple:Submission Guildlines


:bulletblue:All entries must be a photomanipulation.

:bulletblue:Advanced and professional artists are welcome to join, but not to submit unless they have very few favs and page views (If the image has under 20 favs at the time of submission, also the artist can not submit current works if thier page view count is over 50 000, this does not aply to submitting your 'first manip ever made' ).

:bulletblue:Only 2 submissions may be entered per month. Each submission must be in seperate notes. (This is to make things easier for admins when checking who has submitted each month)

:bulletblue:Submissions may not be older than 4 months, unless the submission is the first manip you have ever done and you would like to share!!

:bulletblue:No fetish pictures will be tolerated. Gore and skin exposure will be allowed at the clubs disgression. Please note that if the manip requires a mature content filter it might not be accepted.
