Instead of artwork, I have turned to my next best hobby; baking.

For the past 5 hours I have been baking muffins and diving into new flavors yet unexplored. I finally came up with a good batch; banana raspberry muffins. The raspberries really only give it purple color, but it does have a slight zing. What really punched the flavor was the dash of vanilla I added to the second batch. Nummy! <3 I'm so adding this to my recipe book (or rather stack of papers yet to be filed).

I feel so refreshed! I haven't baked in such a long while. Just have been too busy with projects and what not. It was wonderful to squeeze in time and do some.

Resets the creative mind using the other side of the brain for a while.

Now I'm ready to pursue ideas, sketches and illustrations.

First of all,

bought Up and we watched it last night and I was bawling from the love, sadness and hilarity. I love that movie. So I'm wondering why there is only a Carl action figure and not an Ellie.

I want the two of them. If anyone knows of a set of the two adorable love birds, let me know!

Secondly, Glee is amazing!

Thirdly, I finished my 7 deadly sin themed illustration.

I love it. Lots of fun to do! I am definitely going to use this technique again. In the mean time, I'm trying to figure out what I should do for the next piece... [link]

Back from picking up artwork from the Burn the Witch gallery show. Had tons of fun participating! I sold "Housewife Under Glass", a piece I haven't posted up because I don't know why. :-p It's not my favorite but a local gallery owner decided to buy it for his collection, which made me happy.

Both Vivian [link] and Donna [link] have a happy home as well.

It is so hard to part with artwork after spending so much time with it, but I'm glad they are out there being loved instead of collecting dust with me. Even though I do love them. I can only look at my own work so much. I like looking at other peoples stuff instead.

Just posted an interesting color concept for my next piece, Bigger is Better [link] I'm going to try to do it with paper cutting and acrylic, but we shall see. I really love how the concept came out, mostly because I got to mess and play with color pencils and markers together. I don't normally do so, but I'm trying to branch out and mix mediums together.

One of my close photographer friends, Sarah Downey (see her awesome site here - [link]) recently asked me on advice on how to get out there as an artist. I'll give you what I have come to find so far. If anyone else has any extra input, please feel free to comment!

1. The best ways I know to get your work out there is to get involved in gallery shows, participate in juried exhibitions, contests, etc.

2. Network. Bring your portfolio to people you would possibly want to hire you, maybe just to get their opinion. Just keep a hard copy on you if necessary. As well as your resume. Keeping those things on hand is always a plus because you never know when you might run into someone.

3. Don't sell yourself short of your ability. Try not to offer things for free, though use this advice with digression. Sometimes it is necessary to give some time away for free if it will benefit you in the end. This is a talent you have worked on for a while and it has taken time and money to develop, just as any other profession would.

4. Market yourself to your network and beyond. Print up business cards that are memorable. Make a website for people to view your work digitally (if you've done this already, you can always set up an email list to let people know when you have things updated as a reminder that you are still around and active).

5. You might want to pick up Market Guide... Artist's and Graphic Designers Market Guide - [link] or Children's Writers and Illustrators Market Guide - [link] or for you photographers out there... Photographers Market Guide - [link] . They have a market guide for almost anything, but this series is really helpful. I have the one for "Artist's and Graphic Designers Market Guide" and "Children's Writers and Illustrators Guide"... both are great. Full of helpful articles and a complete listing of various companies, businesses and galleries and what they are specifically looking for so you can send your stuff out there.

Halfway completed with the comic line art. I still have to do the second color shading... and then the steps to make it look right in photoshop (that part isn't hard, and neither is the drawing, it's just taking longer than I thought since I'm new at this style).

Hippo line art is complete, but I can't touch him until next weekend because I have the comic and the storyboards due this week. My storyboards are also halfway through the line art. Which is good because the shading isn't that difficult... neither is the line art. We got to make up our own story and I finally settled on one of my own. That's the one thing about an indecisive mind, it can put you back. But then again, you have so many more options to choose from.

I want to thank for being extremely patient with me and a sweetie this weekend. I really owe him. <3

Slumber update: I had a dream a woman pushed me away from the front of the line and barged her way in front of me at Disneyland... and I called her out on it because I was bruised and hurt... and she denied any such thing. Then her husband called me a liar and wanted to fight. I told him no and that this was ridiculous... so he ended up beating me up. I went to the help area and my honey was there, and he helped me ask the other cast members what I should do, and they said because they didn't see it they could do nothing. And then I woke up. Blah, what a dream.

In other news, it is Monday, so back to work on projects and what not. Busy weekend of work, but it was fun and the weather was nice. Oh, I love October.

My mother just sent me a video of my brother, Chris, and his bandmates playing up in a park in Portland. Note: The adorable little kids dancing. Miss my little brother! But I'm glad he's doing his thing. Can't wait to here him live again.

I'm excited because this adventure takes place when Johnny is younger, and he is set to go trick or treating on Halloween. What sort of misadventures could he get into? Mwuahahahahha!

In illustration we are to take an Aesop's fable and illustrate it. I decided on the tale of the "One-Eyed Doe"... but I'm changing it to the "One-Eyed Hippo". The tale is quite demented and sad. Especially with a moral of "You cannot escape your fate." If you don't get it, I suggest you go read it. It's only a few lines long. Not a huge fan of Aesop... but this shall hopefully prove to turn into an interesting piece.

As for storyboarding... I'm finally getting the feel for the scene I'm working on. Still have quite a bit to do. Going to use the scene from my 1940s film noir Snow White story where she is at a grand party, where her step-mother ends up poisoning her with an apple martini.

More happy news! I completed the third housewife painting last night. I am going to scan her in later today, as well as the other ones to give them a better scan before I drop them off for the Burn the Witch show. Still need to get frames, but the only piece I need to complete now is the little witch watercolor.

Another awesome thing, Josh Agle (aka SHAG) just walked into the office. Apparently, he is having a gallery show this week at CSULB! I'm so psyched right now! The opening reception is on September 13, this Sunday, 5pm - 7pm at the Gatov Gallery. Today, also is the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. A sad day, but a proud day for all those who stepped up and helped those suffering. My uncle was one of many who helped out, and I've never been more proud. If we all come together, we can do great things.

Also, today is the day I got back to work. At least it is a late night shift, which gives me time to rest and recoup.

But back to the adventures of Comic Con.

I bought way more than I anticipated and met 4 of my all time favorite illustrators, along with more than a dozen new ones that I feel in love with for the first time. What I am going to do is when I have time and I'm not feeling so down, I'll upload some pictures to my blogspot where you can see the highlights of my trip.

As for now, I'm going to start my laundry and take a nap.

Well it's at least connected to my portfolio, which is all I need at the moment. And it's a little odd for a porthole page, but whatever. I haven't figured out how to do this on Dreamweaver yet. I'm still reading and fumbling through the book. Comic Con just came up on me so fast. And then having to deep clean my apartment (which is also completed (well the carpets are being cleaned as we speak). On top of it all having this tooth ache and having to drive two hours away to see my dentist who thankfully squeezed me in (that's at 3pm). But to top it all, I get my new baby today! That is, my new car, which is also back near my dentist. Happy days! So it's not a complete waste of gas (being that my current car, Squee, a 4Runner of '92, is definitely wasting gas).

Oi! Now I have to pack just in case I'm not up to driving back tonight. Then a 4 hour drive to San Diego for Comic Con. Again, playing it by ear. I may have to miss preview day. All depends on this dang ole tooth.

Well, I'm off. Probably won't be able to update for a few days. Oh! My camera! I can't forget that!

This weekend, turns out they are holding auditions for possible contestants for a show called "Untitled Art Project" here in LA. I'm debating on going, just to check out all the hullabaloo, but I'm not too sure. I am free this weekend... might as well. Let's see if I can get everything pulled together in time. Oh wait... it's tomorrow and Sunday... and today is Friday. Hmmm... I don't know if I can put it all together that quickly. For some reason I thought it was Thursday. Well, for whomever may try out, break a leg and have fun!

Haven't worked on my piece for the show, but I'm working on that tomorrow for sure. Yay! Getting my business cards ready for Comic Con. That and my portfolio.

Took a 2.5 hour nap today on accident, so I'm pumped right now.

So I will slowly be recollecting them... though if anyone has any suggested blogs, please link them to me because I am always interested in the works of others.

Also, this is a longshot, but I emailed Late Night Underground my illustration of "Conan: The Great Entertainer". I've been meaning to do so for a while, but haven't had the time to do so.

Work has been going very well. I'm loving it so much. Had a project meeting with my boys the other day, as well as a triple date/game night, which was equally exciting. Yes, I have been very productive. Still in the process of working on the piece for the show. And, I got a domain name, [link]. I figured since I already have 'seystudios' listed everywhere, the dot part would be fine to change, but I need to keep the name. And I am happy with it. Now just for the creation of the actual site. I have the book and I WILL do it this summer. Also, have to get my portfolio together for Comic Con. Since I cleaned my computer of all the un-necessaries I know where all my files are located so now the only thing I have to do is compile them and make a hard copy or two.

The 4th of July is tomorrow and I'll be rocking out at the Hootenanny with my lover and loved ones to the tunes of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and many others! So I may not be on, thus have a safe and happy holiday for all those who celebrate! And for those who don't, have a wonderful day and night!

Currently, I've been trying to think of website name for my official portfolio. I had seystudios.com, but I didn't renew it... yay! Go me. So I can go for a .net, .org, .us, .info or something like that... or change the name all together. I'm not quite sure yet. Either way, I need to get one up and running just so I'm organized and not hopping from one website to the other to update (I update my deviantart page frequently, as those who read this know). This doesn't mean I'm leaving in any way, shape or form. I just want a professional portfolio page. However, I do need to find someone to code/design it for me. I can design the thing... it is the coding that pains me. Though I could just read that Dreamweaver book I've been putting off for years.

As of now, I am still working on an art piece for a gallery show in Long Beach. I keep changing my mind on what exactly I want to do. I may even do more than one piece just to get it all out of my system.

Work has been great. Been there nearly every day, which has been nice when it comes to training.

Yesterday, we had a lovely triple date mini golfing, dinner at Denny's and then frozen yogurt until 10pm! Yes there is one open that late! Actually, it's open until midnight which is even cooler! Had some lovely conversations about a future project and also wedding plans. Just finished reading Offbeat Bride: Taffeta-Free Alternatives For Independent Brides by Ariel Meadow Stallings (her website - [link]), which is phenomenal! Everyone who wants advice or just a good book to read with hilarious commentary and side stories about planning, dealing with family members, doing something different, or just a good laugh about other peoples' incidents needs to pick this book up. Definitely, one of my favorites.

Not staying on here too long. Have to go work out and get to the rest of my day! Hope everyone is doing wonderfully!

Also, I may acquire a roomie for the summer and/or fall, which would be nice for both company and financial reasons. So working that all out has been interesting. Nothing permanent yet.

Found out that my poster for Costume Figure Drawing ([link]) was stolen, along with the rest of the class' work. At least they were just prints. It could be worse, but still. Nothing like this has ever happened.

I start my summer job next week. The money will be nice. I am not sure how many hours they are giving me... won't know until Friday probably. Either way, I need to get my portfolio put together before Comic Con. First timer here.

Kickin' it one more day in the country with the family and then I'm heading back to my place. My car is getting fixed and I get my teeth cleaned tomorrow. Already did the laundry, thankfully. Still, so much to do! It's been nice to see family and friends again. It's been a very crazy weekend. I do miss one in particular. She's up north right now, graduating as well. Kinda bummed I'm going to miss it, but hopefully after all is said and done we will get some time together. One of my best friends.

I hope everyone else is having a nice summer, or has a smooth transition from finals to the sunny days.

As for now, I'm going to finish my game of Pirates of the Caribbean Life I have going with my youngest two brothers.
