I know I haven't been around in forever, it was due to a combination of things. Mostly the fact that I was finishing my first semester at school for Game Art and Desgin...just the foundations course, but I was really trying to apply myself, for once. Plus my ADD has been a problem lately.... I am on a break from school, trying to catch up on everything before I go back to school.

Really disturbing stuff, I worry about what they can do with my work posted on here, I never really thought about it, as my work was not pro enough to think anybody would use it....

I love the community and social aspects of DA, so I don't want to leave completely...but I have been wanting to start my own personal/portfolio art site for my own work, and this is a great incentive. I have been putting off learning to cg because I know it would be a waste of time with the mouse. I have done a bit of digital inking with the tablet, in photoshop 5.5. Can anybody give me some idea which is a good program to do digital inks, or digital painting? I know its alot of just preference, but I just want to know before I learn on photoshop, and then find out some other program works easier..

Well...plus I have been kinda lazy, playing lots of video games, and actually not drawing as much as I should.

Big news though, I am applying to the Art Institute near where I live, for the Game Art and Design course...I am so freakin stoked. Its pretty much a sure thing that I will be starting that course in January, so I am gonna bust my butt to sharpen my skills until then.

I really appreciate all the people who replied to my last journal, giving encouragement and props when I was down on myself and my art.

I do want to clarify my issue a bit though, I said I get down on my own art because there are so many better artists on DA. Well, that does happen some time, but lately I have been frustrated while working really hard on my own character designs.... I come up with great concepts and designs, but just can't quite pin it down, and end up redrawing the same thing over and over and it never quite comes out the way I want.

I know that drawing one subject/character for a week straight will probably contribute to that fact, and I am rotating my character designs in an attempt to aleviate the problem.

Oh, and I said last time I would be uploading all the sketches I have done lately, but my computer got all broken, but its fixed now so the sketches are coming momentarily. I have just uploaded them straight from my sketchbook, (sans cleanup and digital refining), so please bear with me and let me know what you think.

On a completely different note....I forgot how old I was today. Really. I actually had to do the math to figure out if I was 24 or 25....crazy, huh?

I figure what the hell...I would enjoy getting some feedback, and just because things aren't perfect, doesn't mean that they all suck, right? (Thats me giving myself a pep talk...can ya tell?)
I often stress out about posting here on DA, and get intimidated because of all the amazing artist who's skill level far surpasses my own...yadda yadda yadda....

So I am gonna stop worrying about it and just post my sketches and works in progress (thats been a big reason why I haven't posted anything, I have been working on a bunch of character designs that I created, I really want to perfect them before posting, but it takes a lot of sketches for me to really pin down the exact design I am looking for...)

Anyway, thanks for sticking around, and let me know what you think of all the new stuff!

For all those great people who take the time to comment on my work, sorry for the bunch of sketches at once, please don't feel like you have to comment right away. I would really appreciate thoughtfull comments on my work, even if it takes months. All you out there really keep me focus and dedicated on my work, and I really appreciate it.

On a side note, if you have a ps2 and like action games, you really have to check out God of War. Amazing production values, great Ancient Greek history/myhtology mixed with fluid combat and crazy hand drawn/cg combination cinemas.... Awesome stuff.

Okay, this all probably sounds a bit silly, but I am stoked to go on vacation, probably the last time before I go back to work, and we are even staying in a beachfront hotel, on the ocean!

So I will be working my butt off before I go, to get lots of drawing done so I am not stressed out, to get all my projects and trades done, and catch up on all my many messages to answer!

I wanted to take this time to thank all you here on Deviantart, who take the time to check out and comment on my stuff. (Espcially all those people with icons at the bottom of my journal, you guys rock hard). All this feedback and encouragement is really what keeps me drawing and progressing artistically, day after day after day. With my ADD its really hard to get started doing things, especially drawing, which stresses me out, and makes me want to draw even less. But then I come on here and check out all the comments everybody has left, and how much of their own time they have spent in response to my artwork and it always gets me motivated and stoked to put out even better work. Not to mention all the inspiration I get from the art all you guys do, (Especially you guys all have sick style and are really going to get far with your artwork. I just wanted every single person who takes the time out of their day to come visit my tiny corner of DA, its truly and greatly appreciated.

I am actually really upset with some of my "freinds" this year. A couple of them, we hang out alot, and I spent about 20 hours each doing special drawings of their favourite characters last year for each of thier birthdays, (my spiderman [link]
and chibi superman [link]
basically busting my ass to do something these people would really appreciate. And, this year, the one friend that I did the spiderman pic for, he was broke about a month ago, and we made up this little deal, I would buy him KOTR 2 for XBOX, which he really wanted, and he would buy me a game for my birthday, that way we had both birthdays covered, and were sure to get what we wanted. So my birthday has come and gone, with not so much as a happy birthday from either, and no game from the friend with the deal.....

Sometimes I honestly wonder why I bother....putting so much time and effort into some freindships, and when it really comes down to it, they don't even care...

But I got my tiny Ps2, a plate of chocolate, and Phantom Brave, so I am set for a while. It just really bothers me when you try to do things for people, and they never seem to notice the time or effort you put into it.

I have started doing weapon studies lately too, just to practice drawing different types of weapons, mostly midevil type stuff (swords, axex, spears, etc)

Now I am back into it, but its hard, I have to ease myself into it. I have problems holding my attention again, just like I used too. What happend I think was I slowly built up my tolerance for concentration at artistic endevours, so it was easy to draw for at least 3 or 4 hours a day, now I have problems even getting one hour done. I guess I have been sitting on my butt playing xbox too much (wow, I truly never thought those words would be coming out of my mouth...).

I guess the key to happiness is just balance...and drawing.

My hardrive crashed twice in the last 2 weeks, which really pisses me off, and puts back my progress alot.

I finished my first art trade with and I am happy with it, the inks weren't to tedius this time...

I am thinking of doing a giftart for whoever gets the 1000th hit, so just get a screenshot and let me know what topic you would like and I will get started on that!

(Really, I already have wayyy too many projects on the go, but I really want a way to say thanks to all the people who post comments and feedback on my page, its really what keeps me motivated and enthused about my work day after day).

I am starting to catch up on my backlog of inks and cgs, and hopefully the Carpenter CG will be coming soon, but I am really loath to start it as I know it will be a biggie (10-15 hours to do it justice).

Do you think I should keep posting my sketches, like I have been in the last month? Or should I just focus on inks and cgs like I was earlier? I am really on the fence about this and need your help!

I have been drawing alot more, and actually posted a new sketch today. I had to reformat my hard drive twice in the last month because of frickin trojans, and so I am behind on my scans.

I really feel like I have been progressing artistically lately, basically that I have improved alot in a short time. When I compare my sketches done in the last month even to those done a year ago, the difference is staggering... I have a long way to go, but its a whole lot easier to work my butt off when I can see that my work is the better for it!

Recently I have discovered Deviantart, and find, as an artist still trying to find my own style and vioce, that the comments, crituqes and support are very beneficial, and conductive to honing my artistic abilites. But on the other edge of the proverbial double edge sword, I find myself going about it all wrong, stressing about not posting enough, as well as doing cg work. I have always been one to sketch, often to make a finished pinup, but never really got into cg. Lately I have learned alot, and done a couple cg pieces, which got a great response from visitors to my page. That pushed me to do alot of photoshop work, with finished sketches, and since cg is so much more time consuming for me, my productivity in sketches suffered.

Now I don't really know where my artistic abilities and ambitions will take me, but I know that my focus should be in sketching and penciling. CG is great, but my goal is to be so good an artist that I will get hired by the strentgh of my penciling abilities. Having A.D.D., its hard enough for me to focus and concentrate on sketching add CG into the mix, and I will never get anything done. I feel that instead of being okay in a bunch of artistic areas (penciling,inking,cg, backgrounds), I really want to focus on one area, and do that to the best of my abilities.

Okay, now if you are still reading this, you are probably wondering why I am even bothering to write all this in my journal. Well, I do appreciate each and every person who visits my page, and especially anybody who takes the time to comment. Many times I have had trouble even putting pencil to paper, full of self doubt and anxiety, and then read a kind word from somebody visiting my page, and got the motivation to keep working, and produced some great artwork. Thank you again to everybody who takes the time to make comments to me, they are all much appreciated.

The format of submissions will be changing henceforth aswell. Until now I have been worried about posting anything other than my best work, thinking that it isn't up to the level of other artists on DA (ie. it sucks). Now I will be posting mostly sketches that I do, that I feel are good, or that I am particularly proud of.

Anyway, its been a while since I posted, since I have been trying to focus on my sketches, and learning to draw basically. I have come to the conclusion that the cg/inking aspect of my artwork is more fun and satisfying than straight sketching, but drawing skills are what I need most, and those other aspects are just icing....

I am just venting I guess, I am still trying to find the balance to the DA community/comment side of things, and the idea that it doesn't matter if anybody ever sees your art, as long as you keep drawing and drawing and drawing...you will get better no matter what.

Next order of business...cg. I have pretty much got a handle on the digital inkin, in photoshop, (still quite a painstaking process, my latest piece took me about 5 hours...but I kindof enjoyed it). So I have all these inks, and they look only half finished, since I have no cg skills whatsoever. Usually I don't even try to do something, if I know the results are going to suck, but hey, ya gotta start somewhere, huh? So I am going to spend the whole day tomorrow trying to cg my new pic, so cross your fingers for me, and luckily my head won't explode.

I am drawing again, finding time to sketch, mostly, but I inked a new piece of giftart, for blahrt, who got my 100th hit...I know, it took me a while. I really wish I knew how to colour, but right now, I am busy enough as it is, just getting all the sketches I want scanned and inked...and I still have a headache from the superman pic.

I guess it looks like, from my gallery, that all I really draw is superheroes and stuff...its actually a rather small portion, but they seem to turn out pretty good, so I post them here. I actually have about 50 sketches I think are good enough to post, so I have to get working on those.... My scanner was being stupid, and I just re-installed it today, so I have a lot of work ahead of me.

I am also stressed out becuse I might be returning to work in a month, so I don't have that much free time...and I waste too much playing video games.

That piece is my first cg as well...(acutally I think I cg'd a piece wayyyy back like 5 years ago, but it sucked, and I never tried again). I know the colours are flat, but even that was an accomplishment, and I had to teach myself as I went. (thanks to QueenFish for all her help and advice)

I went to the store and bought the same kind of sketchbook as always, that I am really happy with. (black coiled 75 pages...) and got it home and spent a night drawing before I noticed what was wrong. It seems almost water damaged, each page isn't flat, like it got wet or something....was in a humid environment. You look at the book from the top and the insides arent even flat...well, the outcome is the pages dont feel right, so my drawings are suffering because the paper is different and not flat. Long story short, its crap, but I am into it now, and can't return it so I am stuck with my crappy ass sketch book. And its having a detrimental effect on my drawing (ie I don't want to)...so we will see if I can get used to it...

I finished a whole sketchbook in under 3 weeks, which is great for me, previously averaging about one every 3-6 months. So on the one hand, I am making a point while I am off work from the car accident to use my time wisely and draw lots, but I know I am putting to much emphasis on number of pages I finish. This is leading to me doing very sketchy, quick drawings, which is good I guess, as I always leaned toward the other extreme, and spent too much time on each drawing, but now, it seems that I can't work on anything for more than one hour at a time...not good. So I have to keep drawing as much as I am, about 3-4 hours a day, but spend more time developing each concept I come up to, instead of jumping right to the next page/idea....stupid ADD. I don't even know if the ritalin is doing anything anymore...I guess it is, but I can't just sit and draw for hours like I want to. But I would guess its like anything else, you don't just work straight through the day, you take breaks, eat, etc....
