I don't know if somebody is going to notice my absence or something, but i have some trouble with the computer so i might not be around for a couple of weeks, until the problems will be remediated.
In other news, i advise all of you to be at least skeptical when purchasing Asus motherboards; and alas, behold my negative example and buy an UPS if you have the chance, instead of relying on prayers to minimize the effects of electricity breakdowns.

You know what? All things people say about life are generalities. These advices, thoughts, reflections, represent an untouched ideal and reflect none of the realities of life. Stories about kindness, about equality of chance, about some illusive meritocracy that lives only in flower-power intoxicated minds. There is no equality of chance, nobody cares about merits or potential value of the individual and a respectful attitude towards others appears as merely a proof of weakness or stupidity.
It's all about having money, guts and the ability of an used cars salesman to advertise yourself, even if you are below mediocre.
Do you have any idea how many dumb, untalented, shallow, empty inside people i've seen succeeding in their domain of choice? I've started to believe that it actually is because not despite the lack of self-awareness and intellect that people succeed. To be so unaware of you potential flaws, to just go forth and make the confused people around you believe you are what you claim to be and never even have the capacity to question your own level. That's it. And money, of course. If you have the luck to be born among the opportunistic used car salesmen, or become one yourself. One must have the dumb instinct of kicking, pushing, escaping, slithering among others to grab a place at the feast, in order to actually 'do something'.
I'm not talking about art here, although i've also seen enough average Joe's being praised as the next prophets of art. I'm not such a good painter, but i think i'm a good critique, heh. I'm talking about the cheesy subject of life in general.
Equality of chances? How can one become a programmer if he never affords a computer? How can one become an F1 driver if he never affords a car? How can one become a doctor if he never affords school taxes? How can one be a photographer if he can't afford a camera? How can one be a philosopher, even with the most brilliant mind, if he is born in a poor village of a banana country? No, the high places are reserved for the ridiculous, for the frivolous, for the frustrated, for the ugly. In general, for anybody possessing the used car salesman spirit and enough inferiority complexes to make them motivated. And, most important, some money.
There must be a moment when people start to believe in evil gods, in unknown forces of irony, in mysterious laws, in poisonous stars shining above or inside self-consciousnesses, in all mechanisms moving to cause one's humiliation and downfall. No, you can't, i can't, nobody can overcome this. You can continue with the desperate-optimistic impression that you can change it and continue to be a comedy character. Or you can just quit.
Thus being said, fuck it all.

Due to the temporary coma of my old rotten computer, i finally decided to part with my beloved Money and get a new one. I will eat tree bark for the rest of the year, sure, but i feel an unexplained masochistic happiness about all this :dance: :lol: The thing is, i couldn't find a crt monitor anymore so i had to pick an lcd instead. Now, here's the problem..i can't tell if it's calibrated right. All my old drawings seem fairly similar to what i used to see on my old screen, but with some differences. I can tell that the contrast is better since i see some flaws that people told me about, and were not visible for me before. But i'm not so sure about colors. I tend to think that the old screen was the bad one, because other people's art looks fine, only mine has dubious issues.
Yet, i can't get the gamma/colors thing to be perfect. How about this:

I used to see the rocks in a slightly blue-ish color when i made it. Now they are rather plain grey, maybe with a warm tint on highlights. I was seeing some violet shadows on her skin, which are now desaturated and pretty much gone. Also the sky in the background, now it looks more orange to me, and it used to be red. How do you people see it on your screens? Please tell me so i can figure if my old screen was the problem, or the new one needs more calibration.

Having trouble with the display, i thought it would also be wise, among other empiric middle-age peasant solutions, to reinstall the driver for the graphics card. It was not wise. After restarting the computer the resolution was an unchangeable blurred 800x600 with 4 bit color (again, no other options). Roll back driver? would be nice, but who the hell made a back-up for it.. I remembered i had a PC Linux OS live CD, so i used it to get on the nVidia site and download a new driver. I saved it on an USB stick, rebooted into windows and tried to install it. "this is not a valid win.32 application". Note that i took the .exe file, and not the driver for Linux, as one could think i've done by mistake. How about trying to install again the driver i already had? Sure. This crashed windows for good. Safe mode took me into an infinite loop of errors.
The only thing left to do was to install that linux. That didn't work as well as i thought..i deleted a partition to use for the linux partitions, but for some reason after the install, it still exists. I don't know from where it took that space for the install, and i think i don't want to know. At least the important files seem to be alright.

I'm downloading Linux. If i'll find that it's compatible with my hardware, i won't be able to resist installing it. If this will result in a failure, see you all soon, after i get myself some working OS :wave:


edit: :evillaugh: It works from the live cd. I was hoping for some stability, and a "kde crash" message appearing after 10 minutes can't mean anything good :paranoid:. I guess it won't happen if i actually install it..At least i could open firefox and answer messages :D

I found a message on kaosmagick from a guy, with 'thanks for the add'. All good until now, except that i didn't add him to the watch list:confused:
I looked in his recent watchers list, kaosmagick was there indeed. I thought that maybe i've pressed it by mistake, but the 'watch this deviant' button was untouched' :| What the hell? It's not the first time when i see at favorites a thing that i didn't fav or having people that i didn't add in my watch list. Of course it's rude to tell to somebody 'hey, it's just some error, i had no idea about you' and i don't care too much, but i'm trying to understand this mystery. I recently found that free software is not only considered a form of competition by microsoft, but they are trying to make it 'illegal'. I'm fed up with articles where terms like ' pirates' and 'criminals' occur to describe anybody who is sharing or even modifying a product to fit his needs of use.
Far from the eyes of the innocent user, there are more and more restrictions, aiming to destroy freedom of sharing, even when, paradoxically, it's about free software or files. If anybody cares and/or has some free time, can read this story [link] which is not dark science-fiction, but it is based on laws and law proposals that do exist. Also notice that it's written a while ago, and probably meanwhile it's all got even worse.
I guess everybody should know by now that windows vista is monitored and any 'improper' usage can lead to legal actions. To say it so, vista is a big spyware. It is also created to definitively destroy Linux and any free alternatives.
This is a brief description of the reasons that made me want to switch to Linux. I checked Ubuntu, it looks pretty good. It has all the features that most users would find equivalent to windows and sufficient (or maybe even better)for daily usage.
BUT it does not support Corel Painter for example, even if it should run with the Wine package. That's it, there's no decent painting program for Linux. As for Photoshop, the results don't seem to be so bright..ah, and to run it with Wine you should have a legal copy :evileye:
I don't really give a damn about windows, programs that run on windows and such but without graphic programs an operating system is almost useless.
I'm using all possible free software, but i can not totally switch to another operating system.
This is a rare case when i have the best intentions, but the universe conspires against me (and against free software) :lmao:
Ever wondered how the world would be under a totalitarian regime? Enjoy the show! Really, why wouldn't Microsoft take total control and start it's reign of terror? Everybody depends on them. They could have slaves in chains if they wanted.

Yes, a good name; this will be the epilogue of your creativity if you have any. They have an approval system there, unlike the more generous dA. I submitted some drawings and while they accepted those who weren't so great in my opinion, they didn't submit two of the best(again, in my opinion, but i guess in other people's opinion too-because they are among the most faved in my gallery..one of them is the little red riding hood :cries:). Because they 'need minor touch-ups'.
I don't really like the over-smoothed, fanatically detailed images. To draw every detail in the grass, every individual hair in a portrait, etc. is not only only boring but also untasteful (a keyword if you already do fantasy art) and useless. And I don't have the nerves to adapt my stuff to epilogue.net's standards of smoothness.
They have lots of other standards: no sketchy work, even if it's expressive and good, no low contrast scenes (wow), no blurred images (i wonder how do they paint foggy scenes?) etc. Shortly, there is a site style and you would better be following it.
Anyway, i just wanted to advise any of you who might be doing drawings or photomanipulations with fantasy, sci-fi or anime themes to avoid this site. It's not much to do there anyway.
Conclusion: long live DeviantArt :w00t:

Yesterday, i heard the rumor that the end of the world is coming. Tomorrow. I wasn't aware of this fact, so my first reaction was naturally to buy more beer. Then i started to drink and meditate about money strategies for making a decent living within the non-being state of (non)existence.
I had to know the cause which urges me to abandon sweet sloth and force my synapses. Accidentally i found on a blog about the Hadron Collider[link] The :spotlight-left:LARGE Hadron Collider :spotlight-right: ;)

Although particle physics isn't remarkably studied in art school, i can tell my conclusions about this device: it's a shiny and alien-looking thing in a SF tunnel environment, therefore it's cool. Their geeky site looks like a negative example of design (probably a studied effect), with a basic white& blue color scheme which enforces the promising sensation of cool& sinister events approaching.
The end of the world is irrelevant, we discovered a greater truth, that there exists intelligent life on earth. If humans could build something so cool, shiny and feared, it means mankind has few intelligent individuals. That's pleasing to think about, even while you're swallowed in a black hole.
Of, course, they say it is safe, that the LHC is a brilliantly built machine that will help the human being to understand the secrets of the universe and this experiment will set free the light of reason and knowledge. But it's still the tool of the devil :devil:

P.S. If any survivors, we can apply the post-apocalyptic world reconstruction plan previously designed by *WildRainOfIceAndFire. This plan depends on me as the the new world leader, therefore LHC FTW! :#1:

P.S. I like this photo. I had it in my favorites for a while and now i saw it again displayed as random favorite. It has a timeless feeling and a slight frivolity, not the plastic XXX frivolity of nowadays, but a naive, natural one. Gives me the feeling of an evening when the witches's sabbath is being prepared and the plans whispered or read in each other's eyes. It's delicate but not fainted. The composition makes it look almost like an icon and the bodies have something from the classic postures of antiquity. Simple but enigmatic..

Die! :fork: I guess anybody who opened a graphics program at least once and tried to draw something, has seen it's not a major difference, just another approach. The way you paint is similar to the traditional, with some plus and minus features.
Now, i might not be some Caravaggio, but i guess i'm neither a totally untalented scribbler who knows a spell that makes the computer draw by itself. Because those people imagine it's like you stay in front of the computer and say "Dear computer, i'd like you to draw something for me..a composition, not too realistic, make it dynamic and please, insert some symbolism." then bow, press enter and voila! you can post it and wait for comments.
Yes, i have a great hidden truth to reveal:
There is a :spotlight-left:cult of the computer:spotlight-right:. That's why it doesn't work for everybody, you must know how to invoke it. Bring pleasant offerings to It, like a RAM card, a bigger HDD, a wide screen..To establish a spiritual connection with your divinity, you need of course a program like photoshop, painter, etc.
Now, imagine the pen attached to the tablet as a magic wand, draw imaginary circles of energy into the aether with it, and expect results shown on the screen. Few know the mystic words, the dreadful spells that must be chanted then! But alas, when you have found them, there's nothing else you need, not even talent. You might not be able to draw even a little house, but with this powerful magic, you can laugh at Leonardo after 5 minutes. It is not fair, of course,for people who do real art, honest art, by hand; people who actually work, draw lines, apply colors. Fortunately, they found about the existence of this cult and now they point at it, in the name of justice, shredding the illusive glory of it's adepts.
I can not speak more, oh, friend! For i am yet a humble neophyte. I can only explain why i have chosen the path of evil, because i was never able to draw. I tried to draw a man, and after a week, i had a stick figure. That's why i needed the Computer , hallowed be his name. I can pretend i draw now, hallelujah!
