Naturally, I installed AVG, Ad-Aware and Spy-bot. I guess I should install Firefox and not run the default version of Internet Exploder.

I never liked Windblows. Even before I got the chance to try Mac OS X. I just wish Macs were more affordable and easier to customize. I mean, I love my Mac Pro and I can customize (ie upgrade the ram myself or change the HD) but it sure wasn't the affordable option.

Got my Mac Pro last tuesday.

I'm just having a bit of network problems. One of our neighbors' wifi is interfering with ours. My boyfriend has a linksys adapter so he doesn't see much of a difference. I used to simply move my adapter around until I got the signal back and never really wondered what was the problem. My airport card being inside the casing and my computer weighting over 20 lbs, moving around is not an option. Moving the router helped a bit but we'll have to tweak our settings.

One problem is that my CanoScan 4200F is not Mac compatible. I've checked Vuescan and it doesn't support my scanner model either. I've considered installing Bootcamp to run Windows XP so I can use it but it's a lot of trouble for nothing. My scanner is on its last leg anyway; it's been having mechanical problems and doing way more noise than it's supposed too... So my solution is to install it on my boyfriend's PC and tough it out until it dies. Once dead, I'll spend the bucks on a new one. Leaves me time to do a bit of research and maybe purchase one that will last longer than 2 years.

Despite the few rearrangements needed, this is one of the best computers I've owned so far. Super quiet, super fast, super easy to use. I've got CS4 and WoW installed, up next is Painter.

Female
Gender preference: Male

Your honest, balls-to-the-wall opinion on:

Furries:
Whatever floats your boat but keep in mind that there is a time and a place for everything... that being said, maybe the grocery store is not a place to wear your collar and fake ears and tail. Just a thought.

Fangirls:
Get. the. fuck. over. yourselves. and. your. fandom.

Fanboys
See above. Don't uselessly get tangled in a fantasy world with fake people you'll never meet.

Yaoi:
It's a legitimate style that has been bastardized by over obsessed fans.

Critique, regardless of art form or genre:
I studied in arts and design. You either learn to take and/or refute it or you change career path. Simple as that. You take what you need, leave what you don't. I ignore void comments and always take seriously someone that critiques seriously, even if I feel it doesn't apply to what I did.
Critique is also not a reason to insult and humiliate someone. If you don't like something, move on. If it's truly bad, it will fail. If it succeeds, even if by all means you think it's the worst piece of crap, it means it's doing something good. I think the whole emo thing sucks royal monkey balls but, here we are. The emo thing is doing something right to reach and enthrall all those kids. With time, I learned to appreciate the aesthetics of the style. Still can't handle the music though.
Critique should be used to encourage and help improve. It's not just a matter of opinion.

Manga-style illustration :
Hate the copy paste, love the true mangakas. I got some great anime style artist on my watch list.

Manga-style illustration with a Western influence:
You mean kinda like what I do? <_< If it's done well, I love it all.

Rap music:
Can't stand it. I realize there are pioneers like Run DMC and NWA and that it played a big role in Afro-American history but I can't stand it. It's not about it being degrading to women or all that jazz, it just profoundly irritates me.

Mainstream pop music:
Take some, leave some. I'm a closet Maroon 5 fan

'GRRL GAMERS'
Not as uncommon as you think. Step out of your basement once in a while.
My WoW guild is composed of mostly women and is runned by 2 lesbians.

Women in general
I'm not girly so I get along better with men. Guess I fall in the tomboy grrl gamer stereotype. But I don't like stereotypes...
Yeah I hate the girly girls who make up for lack of self esteem with vanity and popularity but I also hate men who do it too.
Personality clash I guess.
In this day and age, in Canada, you can do w/e the fuck you want regardless of your gender if you don't vote Conservative and ignore religion

Men in general.
See above.

World Politics:
Different cultures, different ways, different minds, different wants, different needs, different beliefs. Conflict is bound to arise and I've given up on the idea of "World Peace". I'm more for "Try and get along, see if we can minimize the fighting".

DeviantART.
It's big and very diverse. It's a good community, you just need to ignore 3/4 of it

Gay folks, whether we're talking boy-on-boy or girl-on-girl.
Got nothing wrong with 'em. I don't like pple who flaunt their sexuality so the flaming ones kinda get on my nerves. But that goes for the heterosexuals macho players and barbie blow up dolls too.

Bisexuality
More choice to you.

Japan
This rich and complex culture does not deserve the bastardization of fangirls/boys.

Pedophiles and Pedophilia
Is nothing sacred? IT'S A FUCKING CHILD THAT STILL RELIES ON HIS OR HER PARENTS FOR WHAT IS WRONG OR RIGHT!
Anything preventing a child from being a child is wrong. That being said, don't put your child in pageants and on the web wearing make-up and bathing suits.

The Internet Male/Internet Tough Guy
They are mostly pussies when you confront them in real life.
A 135 lbs art student! I work at a museum and we use the internet on a daily basis to answer questions from the public. We google other touristic attractions, hotels, bus services, restaurants and other types of things on a daily basis. The museum's internet bill must already be through the roof already providing high speed for all its employees, now it will have to determine what necessary packages as well?
- I'd love to look up this restaurant's menu on their homepage for you ma'am but unfortunately, it's not part of our package.
I find cable television to already be a fucking rip-off but this, is utter bullshit. [link]

The Meme.

How old are you? 22
Gender? Female
Gender preference. Men

Your honest, balls-to-the-wall opinion on:

Furries :
I don't care much for furry art. I like the classic furry type cartoons like Disney (ie robin hood, mickey) or hannah barbara but I don't like the furry art I see on DA. Often it is distasteful. There's only a handful of furry artists I would consider watching.

Fangirls:
Get the fuck over it. I am a fan of music, show, etc. but I won't go imagining a gay love story between Severus Snape and Captain Jack Sparrow or some bullshit like that. I really don't see the point of exagerated fandom.

Fanboys :
See above, my irritation with irrationnal fandoms is not gender specific.

Yaoi :
Harlequins, chick flicks, princess stories à la Walt Disney, soap operas... So many commercial success based off heterosexual love. Guess it was time for a change It's nothing shocking or all that important. I just find it disturbing when they twist around pple's sexual orientation for the sake of fanfics (see fandom above)

Critique, regardless of art form or genre:
Essential. Although it doesn't mean that you should do everything that is said to you art wise, you should always pay attention to what others have to say about your practice and take in consideration what you find pertinent and useful. If you try for a certain effect and nobody gets it, you are not misunderstood, you failed. Dust off, try again, try it differently, maybe follow the advice that was given to you.
In my line of study, critique is a essential part of my education. Critique is to open your horizon, to take you down avenues you wouldn't have on your own. Often my teachers say "Why don't you try this?" and I come back the next class and we assest if it failed or worked.
C'est à prendre ou à laisser. You take some, you leave some but you should always listen and keep an open mind.

Manga-style illustration with a Western influence :
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I find this debate useless since Manga style is directly derived from old school Walt Disney and american cartoons from that era.

Rap music.
Most of it is shit to me. Old songs, add a rap beat, rap over it, re-write the chorus or just sing the original chorus. Few rap artists have real musical talents. The rest are just carbon copies.
Then again, carbon copies are in every artisitic field.

Mainstream pop music :
See above. I like some songs that are catchy. I must admit I listen to Maroon 5 but all in all, I don't like it all that much.

'GRRL GAMERS'.
Gotta have hobbies and I don't have cable. Am I stereotypical? Maybe. Do I care? No.

Women in general.
I don't get along with most women because i'm too crude, laid back and honest. But I don't hold specific sexual grudges. Girly girls have often looked down on me but I figured they were just mad at me for not taking 2 hours to get ready in the morning and have the confidence to step out of the house without an inch of make-up on my face. Although, that high school mentally, I have been reminded recently, is non gender nor age specific.
I'm not sexist, I just don't care for close mindeness and stupdity. I guess that makes me an elitist.

Men in general :
See above. I hate how some men treat women but that goes with the high school mentality I mentionned higher up. Men and Women often feel they have a role specific to their gender to fill. They are just victims of sexism and prejudice. You do what you wanna do and be what you wanna be.

American politicians, especially George W. Bush :
I'm a francophone independant atheist left winged young woman who is pro-choice, sexually active, unmarried and childless and probably stay unmarried and childless and who works and studies in the artisitic field. Need I say more?

DeviantART :
A victim of it's own size and popularity. You have a lot of art, some of it bad, some of it good. The point is you'll find something that'll float your boat.

Gay folks, whether we're talking boy-on-boy or girl-on-girl :
I have nothing against gays but honestly, I don't care who you're fucking and in what hole. The flaming thing can get on my nerves though. Flaunting your sexuality won't make a difference. I'll like or hate you becaus...

I got it from 's livejournal but I think it's from Craigslist [link]

"Every day, there are more and more Craigs List posts seeking “artists” for everything from auto graphics to comic books to corporate logo designs. More people are finding themselves in need of some form of illustrative service.

But what they’re NOT doing, unfortunately, is realizing how rare someone with these particular talents can be.

To those who are “seeking artists”, let me ask you; How many people do you know, personally, with the talent and skill to perform the services you need? A dozen? Five? One? …none?

More than likely, you don’t know any. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be posting on craigslist to find them.

And this is not really a surprise.

In this country, there are almost twice as many neurosurgeons as there are professional illustrators. There are eleven times as many certified mechanics. There are SEVENTY times as many people in the IT field.

So, given that they are less rare, and therefore less in demand, would it make sense to ask your mechanic to work on your car for free? Would you look him in the eye, with a straight face, and tell him that his compensation would be the ability to have his work shown to others as you drive down the street?

Would you offer a neurosurgeon the “opportunity” to add your name to his resume as payment for removing that pesky tumor? (Maybe you could offer him “a few bucks” for “materials”. What a deal!)

Would you be able to seriously even CONSIDER offering your web hosting service the chance to have people see their work, by viewing your website, as their payment for hosting you?

If you answered “yes” to ANY of the above, you’re obviously insane. If you answered “no”, then kudos to you for living in the real world.

But then tell me… why would you think it is okay to live out the same, delusional, ridiculous fantasy when seeking someone whose abilities are even less in supply than these folks?

Graphic artists, illustrators, painters, etc., are skilled tradesmen. As such, to consider them as, or deal with them as, anything less than professionals fully deserving of your respect is both insulting and a bad reflection on you as a sane, reasonable person. In short, it makes you look like a twit.

A few things you need to know;

1. It is not a “great opportunity” for an artist to have his work seen on your car/’zine/website/bedroom wall, etc. It IS a “great opportunity” for YOU to have their work there.

2. It is not clever to seek a “student” or “beginner” in an attempt to get work for free. It’s ignorant and insulting. They may be “students”, but that does not mean they don’t deserve to be paid for their hard work. You were a “student” once, too. Would you have taken that job at McDonalds with no pay, because you were learning essential job skills for the real world? Yes, your proposition it JUST as stupid.

3. The chance to have their name on something that is going to be seen by other people, whether it’s one or one million, is NOT a valid enticement. Neither is the right to add that work to their “portfolio”. They get to do those things ANYWAY, after being paid as they should. It’s not compensation. It’s their right, and it’s a given.

4. Stop thinking that you’re giving them some great chance to work. Once they skip over your silly ad, as they should, the next ad is usually for someone who lives in the real world, and as such, will pay them. There are far more jobs needing these skills than there are people who possess these skills.

5. Students DO need “experience”. But they do NOT need to get it by giving their work away. In fact, this does not even offer them the experience they need. Anyone who will not/can not pay them is obviously the type of person or business they should be ashamed to have on their resume anyway. Do you think professional contractors list the “experience” they got while nailing down a loose step at their grandmother’s house when they were seventeen?

If you your company or gig was worth listing as desired experience, it would be able to pay for the services it received. The only experience they will get doing free work for you is a lesson learned in what kinds of scrubs they should not lower themselves to deal with.

6. (This one is FOR the artists out there, please pay attention.) Some will ask you to “submit work for consideration”. They may even be posing as some sort of “contest”. These are almost always scams. They will take the work submitted by many artists seeking to win the “contest”, or be “...

The mixer palette! You can pick colours and mix them like in real life.
The Just Add water tool... The best blender I've worked with so far. Everthing looks more painted and less plastic and digital, you can even see the strokes.
Every fucking contest online or on TV often excludes Quebec residents! I'm sorry, as long as the "No" votes keeps winning, we're still part of Canada and I don't see why we should be excluded.
So Aerith's Revenge got it's 1000th view. I got a little message in my message center saying so and a congradutory page when I logged on offering me subscriptions to a print account. It's a funny drawing, I admit, but it's old and badly drawn. I never deleted it because pple liked it and a lot thought it was a riot and they obviously still do. I'm just saying that if I were to make prints of Aerith's Revenge, I'd have to do a new drawing. One that isn't doodled on a scrap piece of paper with cheap markers as a joke gift for my friend.
I doubt opening a print account is going to happen anytime soon. If popular deviants are barely selling, who the hell would buy my stuff?

I saw V for Vendetta last night. I was pleasantly surprised. I really liked the plot line and the actors were very good. The story never seem to be chopped up, like huge chunks were missing. Maybe it's because I never read the comics nor the graphic novels. Then again, I never read Ultraviolet and that movie blows.

Ultraviolet sucked. Sure, I was expecting an eye-candy flashy show-off fight scene movie but they're should be a bit more story and caracter developpement. Also, the little story there is, should be clear and comprehensive

Holiday rush is over and I've managed to find some time to sit down and scan some sketches. Last term, I had a lifedrawing class and we had to do a sketch everyday in our sketchbook, ranging from pple to objects to plants and animals and all that whatnot. So, I chose those I liked best and uploaded them in my scraps gallery. So, check it out
