Something For The Ladies is a music blog that ~draxiom started. There are a few aesthetically talented people writing about refreshing and undiscovered music found on the internet (very contradicting, I know...). You should read Draxiom's post for more information on the project and his other fascinating project Who Needs The Sunshine?.

I should mention that the design only works well in Safari 3 and Firefox 3.1 (unreleased). Firefox 3 is fine, but it doesn't support a few CSS3 selectors that make the design more pleasing.

What do you think of it?

and if you've been paying to my tweets still, you'd know that I have to explanation for why -moz-border-radius and -webkit-border-radius do the same thing in different browsers when I just want to type border-radius. IT'S SO STUPID. Having to code more css to support different browsers doesn't seem right to me.

Someone tell me why this is, or is there a fix or workaround or something?

DRAXIOM: COLLAB.

I don't know if I've ever talked about this, but I have an alter-ego as a moderately terrible game-modder...
The game is Escape Velocity: Nova. And the mod I've been working on is a 'total conversion' (replaces the storyline, graphics, etc.) based on the show Firefly.

I've really just been using my photoshop skills to create interface elements, because what they had originally looked like the stuff that I did when I started out with Photoshop... I'll let you guys know when it's done. Don't get your hopes up though. They started on it in 2005 and they're still a bit more than halfway done with Part 1 of what will be a series. I joined to help out with the UI...

That family organization app thing sort of stopped... I realized I'm not very good with Javascript, Django, Rails, and PHP... It hurt my ego, but I think I'll be fine. I do have a screenshot of what it might have looked like... Not now though.

She's had heart cancer for a few months now. It got worse within these few days. It got to the point where she couldn't walk up a hill because of the strain on her heart. We didn't want her to suffer.

According to the vets, she was in much better shape for how long she's had cancer at her age.

I didn't want to make some intricate piece and call it "death", because it's so cliche and it doesn't express emotion.

ps. I don't know why, but we have always spelt her name with a "t".

I've been working on a project that has spanned almost my entire 5 years with a copy of photoshop. First, it was a portfolio, but as those faded into the fad ridden internet, it transformed into a more substantial blog.

I've never figured out why I have worked on the same (what I'll call) personal site for these past years, but it's still a fun learning experience.

My more recent attempts to make something that satisfies my very perfectionist attitude incorporate a logo with two stripes to the right. These remind me of racing stripes, hence the "zoom." I've now had three more sophisticated designs near completion before my brain decides their not high enough quality.

meh, I'm done with this post. sorry, it's just something to say.

and I may (probably will) move to Abu Dhabi over the summer. it has to do with the Masdar Initiative.

people seem to think that the snazzy effects you see on webpages without flash is AJAX. it isn't. they're just javascript animations.

if it's pulling the information from a database without loading the rest of the page, that's AJAX.
if it's just showing you information that was already in the HTML. that's an animation.

I'm moving to Denver, Colorado.

I don't want to move. I grew up in New Mexico and everyone I know lives here. but it must be done.

I hate saying good bye to people, and knowing that you'll probably never see them again. It would have been easier if I told people I was moving a bit sooner. but I'm too shy and waited until the last minute to put it in there. and still half of the people in my grade don't know that I'm moving. at least I made sure that everyone in my grade signed my yearbook. (without making a big deal out of it)

I don't know anyone in Denver so this will be a really odd and new experience.

meh. it makes me feel bad when I think about it.

so being optimistic: I heard through the grapevine that I'm getting a hand-me-down computer. you might think thats lame, but just so you know: my first computer I got still runs and is now 7 years old. and I'm not the best person to take care of a computer. I just use them a lot.

I see myself moving away from the gfx art and community more and more. I haven't done a sig in 4 months now and the last 3d piece I did was freebird. I'm not sure I'm really going to do anymore of that for now. I'm moving on to graphic design and the web. it doesn't help that I can't use my iMac while its packed now though...

if you've made your way around the internet then you probably have seen a blog. you probably read a blog or two very often. every morning I start my computer up and read the new stuff on Gizmodo. and this is how I'm informed for my whole day, and I know something more than my brothers (who are always trying to rub it in that since I'm younger than them, I'm less intelligent). but whatever thats not my point.

when you're reading a blog do you ever stumble on a typo? or mixed up words?
because of my extremely visual brain I know when something is spelled wrong. I just do, don't ask how. but when I see something spelled wrong it bugs me so much. I think it has to do with me needing everything to perfect and pretty and when something is out of line it puts me in a bad mood.

but why are there typos to begin with? when I write something I always check over it at least twice to make sure everything flows and its easy to understand (due to my scatter-brained habits this can sometimes be a large task). I've even read articles from a few years ago that still have misspelled words and bad punctuation.

what bugs me even more though is people older than me who don't know how to spell. whatever. I just think people should read over their stuff a bit more.

If you've read my last few posts you'll know that I'm obsessed with Multi-Touch. And my own screen is being developed, well sort of. I'm working on the software, but saying that makes it sound like I know what I'm doing. Well I don't really. I got scared of Windows when I was on my pc, so I decided vvvv wasn't the way to go. I went back to the comfort of my iMac and opened up Quartz Composer. Now if you know anything about this stuff then you'll know that QC isn't really the application to do this in. I borrowed my mom's iSight camera and started toying around...

I've now got a good idea of how I'll make it, though I just don't know how. The only programming language I know is BASIC and its not really a visually centered language. Really all I need to do before I start building it, is get the touch tracking to work and make an application for it.

This really wont be anywhere near as spiffy as the Perceptive Pixel screen but I can still say I made one on my resume... Well maybe. Money is going to be an issue as I don't have a projector nor a fast enough camera to do this, but we'll see.

So if you haven't heard already, Microsoft announced a spiffy thing called Surface. But the problem is that I saw this video about a year or so ago and Apple has the patents and stuff on that. Now heres my debate: Microsoft has been known to copy what Apple is doing or did a long time ago, but Microsoft claims to have been working on this since 2001, which means they can't have possibly known about Apple's multi-touch table/display. Yet here is Surface and it has the same sort of interface and gestures as Apple's does. But does this mean that Microsoft has spies in Apple or does this mean that Microsoft is thinking up more things than how to copy Apple?

This is for the 1st generation 2gb iPod Nano using Windows. And you may lose all of your data, but you can still put files on it via a Mac and PC (not syncing). So far I haven't seen the Apple OS since I installed Linux because there is no BootLoader on it because of what I did, though I may change that.

2. Restore it to factory settings. (This may be optional, because I haven't done it any other way.)
3. Unzip and run EZiPL and follow the instructions. (Just click next a few times)

5. Unzip and run the FloydZilla installer and follow those directions too.
You now have an iPod that runs Linux with Doom and a Gameboy emulator (Pokemon works :p) Have Fun!

Well I've decided to write up a survival guide for us 'Mac Huggers'.

PART I: Gaming
Some one may mention to you that Macs don't have games. Now this isn't true. In fact Macs have many popular titles such as Quake 4, practically every Sims game known to man, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, and Doom 3. And with more recent Macs you have the ability to run Microsoft Windows on your Mac. So to put it in perspective, Macs can run nearly every popular game, and with no major speed decrease. They may mention that Macs weren't designed to run games. Thats not true either. The MacBook Pros can hold as much as 3 gigabytes of ram, which is more than required to play 3 modern games. The higher end MacBooks have up to 256 megabytes of graphics ram, when normal games are usually around 64 to 128 megabytes. In conclusion: Macs can play too.

Idiot: Macs don't have any games.
Mac User: And you still play on your PC?

I have an amazing piece that I was going to release today after I finished moving everything else to scraps. But apparently thats harder than you might think... DA decided to get rid of that lovely move to scraps button so that you have to wait a year while that update page loads so that you can switch categories.

Why?

I have thoughts of leaving DA, but then I wouldn't be able to network with everyone.

The lack of updates during winter is my fault. But one must enjoy a break when one gets one. As you may notice I have a spiffy new design (I hope you notice).

In other news, New Mexico got snow. With around a foot in my backyard last week its the most snow I've seen in New Mexico. Too bad snowball fights are banned at school.

I tried to use Illustrator. I just couldn't grasp the interface. I came out with a few lame things and attempts but nothing that I was proud of. I guess I'm a raster person. But don't let this fool you, I'm still going to try to use Illustrator but I'm not sure you'll be seeing any thing worth while from me for a while. Lets just wait and see how I do.

I'm also very into designing layouts, and I promise you that my second layout will be at least 75% better than my first. We'll see. I really want a subscription of any duration. I'd love first but I'd be lucky if I made 50th. Oh well, I'll see.

The design for CSS Layout number two is lookig quite pretty. I tried to keep it DA style and color so that it fits nicely into DA.
