Wacom Cintiq...should I make the jump?

Been awhile since I've written.

Anyways, I've been using my trusty Wacom Intuos 3 6x8 for quite some time, but I've been really contemplating getting a small Cintiq.

Any comments or suggestions? Anyone here using a Cintiq now? Should I just stay with my intuos? Just want to know if the experience is any better.

Hi everyone. It's been awhile. Life has been hard, but I'm trying to make more time to be here. Work had been relentless. Unfortunately, the job that I had been working at for almost a year layed off several people on Friday and I was one of the casualties. The worst part is that it's right before the holidays. It's the hardest time of the year to find employment. Plus, I worry because of the financial situation and my kids.

Life has been kickin' me in the balls for quite some time and it's been rough (Too long & complicated to explain), but I'm trying to hang in there and keep moving forward. So, I'm working on freelance again and taking a few commission slots when possible. Gotta feed the kids ya know.

Anyways here is some details on my commission pricing:

PERSONAL COMMISSION PRICING (NON-COMMERCIAL)

** Prices vary on the complexity of the commission (Amount of characters - rough sketches or cleaned up line work - Backgrounds - Cartoony, Semi-Realistic or Realistic Style, Flat Shaded or Detailed coloring - etc). **

ROUGH SKETCHES:

Character sketch > $30 (+$20 additional character)
Character sketch + BG > $65 (depending on complexity/difficulty)

CLEAN PENCILS/LINES:

1 Character design > $75
1 Character pin-up > $90
2 - 4 Characters > $140
Characters+BG > $170 to ??? (depending on complexity/difficulty)

DIGITAL COLORS:

1 Character design > $100
1 Character pin-up > $140
2 - 4 Characters > $175
Characters+BG > $200 to ??? (depending on complexity/difficulty)

Please provide me with as much detail as possible about the subject/character. For example, if it's your own character...I would need to know:

Anything and everything that would verbally describe this character right down to the last detail.
Name, age, Image references, personality traits, bad habits, specific tattoos, earrings, clothing, body type.
Hair style, clothing, eyes, or any other important feature.
All this info helps to make sure that your character comes to life in my art.

Boring Legal Mumbo Jumbo:

I reserve the right to decline any commission request.

I reserve the right to adjust the pricing on a request before I begin the commission (depending on difficulty / time scale etc.).

You are free to use your commissioned piece as you see fit, for layouts etc. You are not required to link back or credit, but it would be appreciated. However, you may NOT claim the piece as your own. I reserve the rights to the artwork and you may not make monetary profits from it.

I reserve the right to display a commissioned piece on any of my portfolio site galleries. If the piece is an original character of yours etc, then all credit will be given to you accordingly.

Personal commissions are NOT to be used for anything like:
Book illustrations, covers, or any other publishing that depicts the artwork or for any profit you may hope to make.

Personal commissions cover NON-commercial use only. You may not make prints of my work to sell. I still hold legal rights to the art. Commissioning me means that you are agreeing to those terms.

I take 50% of the full price before work has begun.

Once the work is completed, you will be given a low-res preview of the artwork. Once I have the rest of the payment I will send you the hi-res final version(s) of the artwork file(s) in the file format of your liking. All commissions will be started and finished in the order that I receive payment.

I will only accept a certain amount of commissions at once.

All commission deposits are NON-refundable after work has begun and the full payment amount if NON-refundable after the work is completed or very close to completion.

Hi everyone. I wanted to explain why I've been absent.

Life has been pretty hard and complicated for quite some time

I've had my ups and downs.

My grandpa (dad's side) passed away on Dec 5th, 2006 & my grandma (mom's side) passed away on March 13th, 2007 ( a few days after my bday). My wife's grandpa passed away last month as well.

Then, my wife's purse was stolen in March which led to her identity being stolen last month. They cleaned out our bank account by posing as her using her stolen license and social and making a large withdraw. Then, they cashed checks that bounced using information as well. It was a damn nightmare. All the checks that we sent to pay bills bounced, we had no money and dealing with our bank was a nightmare. We are still trying to damage control.

Before all of that, my wife and kids were sick with colds and shit for about 3 months.
Now, we are just trying to get through everything...one day at a time.

It's been hard, but I've been trying to keep the faith to get me through.

I'm also dreading trying to go through my backlog of several hundred DA messages and 1,300+ deviations. I guess that's what happens when you don't regularly visit DA.

Hope you all haven't forgotten about me...sorry that I've been gone.

Final Fantasy 7 fans, check this out!

Hey everyone. Sorry for my absence. I've been dealing with alot of problems since my grandmother's passing. I'll elaborate more on it in another post. Anyways...

My friend Jeremy...whom you all know as has been working really hard lately. He recently got a gig for Marvel comics and still finds time for DA and personal projects. He's also been going through some rough times with a recent hospital scare and a close relative's passing...but, even with his recent hectic situations...he's still putting forth great effort into to bringing Final Fantasy 7 fans a visually stunning comic series based in the FF7 universe along with his partner who is delivering the amazing backgrounds on the project. These two fellow Deviants are gonna blow your socks off!

The series is called Final Fantasy VII: Exegesis.

Around 4pm EST yesterday (3-13-07), my Abuelita (Grandma) lost her battle with Alzheimer's disease and passed away. On Dec. 5, 2006, I also lost my grandfather from my Dad's side from the same illness. It hasn't been an easy several months for me with so many things going on. I'm just trying my best to cope. My grandfather is destroyed and it's so sad for me to see him in that state. I hope that I can be strong enough for him to help him get through it.

Abuelita, thanks so much for practically raising me, protecting me and loving me unconditionally. We will all miss you greatly.

MY PC STATUS AND MORE.

Well. I happy to say that I finally got my computer back. They had to replace my power supply and motherboard. The good news is that they gave me a bigger capacity Hard Drive. The bad news is that they gave me a slightly slower processor. The original was 2.1 ghz Athlon XP and now it's a 1.7ghz. It's a very lil difference, so I didn't care that much. I have windows and most of my apps installed again. Plus, most of my speed tweaks are done too.

So, I'm pretty much back in action. Unfortunately, now there's a backlog of freelance/commission work that needs to get done. Ay yai yai!

Which means not much time to spend here for the moment.

SO PLEASE FORGIVE MY LACK OF REPLIES, COMMENTS, ETC, ETC!

Plus, I noticed that I have 420+ deviations that I have to look at in my message center and 160+ messages to add on top of that! Woah. It grows so damn quickly if you haven't checked in a few days.

Anyways, sorry that I haven't been around. I hope to catch up with everything as fast as I can.

MY COMPUTER IS DEAD...*

Unfortunately, my computer died this past week.

I was blessed enough to find out that it was still under warranty (thank god for 3 year warranties) and I was able to back up all my files.

The bad part is that I will be without my computer for 2 weeks.

Which means all freelance & commissions have come to a grinding halt.

Which means delays in bringing in desperately needed extra money.

Please bear with me.

Don't you wish they had loaners for computers like they do for cars? That way, I can continue working while I wait for my pc to get fixed.

Oh well.

Anyways, due to my computer woes, I won't be able to be on DA much until everything is back to normal.

Will I stay?

I just want to let you know that I'm very proud of all of you that volunteered to help our fellow DA member Will Caligan . Whether it was paypal donations, buying his sketchbook, spreading the word or just praying for the guy...it all helped soo much. The response that he received here was more then he could have ever imagined.

You all are "Real Super Heroes". All real family...a community. That is why I love this place in the short time that I've been here. Many of you have been extremely awesome with me. You have been friendly, helpful and welcoming. Especially when I didn't know how to do something here...or wanted to learn a new technique...or being understanding to life's problems.

That's why I decided to renew my 3 months subscription that I got when I purchased a full print account 3 months ago to one full year. Because of you...because without all of you, it just wouldn't be the same.

Please help someone in need.

His name is Will Caligan and his wife and son are going through some rough times. He needs to pay his insurance deductible by Friday so that he doesn't lose his insurance and his son can continue to receive treatment for kidney problems.

I don't know Will, but I do know he has good well known friends on DA and his son is in trouble. So, I would like to help him out in anyway possible. 30 FEATURED IS NOW CLOSED.

This will be a special FEATURED DEVIANT journal. Because of recent events (like the death of my grandfather, commissions, etc...etc.), I was unable to complete doing my share in featuring other fellow deviants since I participated in and was featured in:

I just wanted to say thanks. Thanks so much to all of you that took the time to try and comfort me after my my grandfather passed away last week.

Let me tell ya, it hasn't been easy...I've had my up and down moments dealing with it (Especially with all my other problems and responsibilities), but all the love you've all showed me has made it so much easier for me to cope. I thank you with all my heart and soul. You all are great and it's a much welcome thing to see with all the negative things going on in this world.

With people like you, there is always hope and happiness.

1) What is your favorite drawing tools of choice (Non-digital. Pencil or mechanical pencil? 2B, 2H or non-photo blue? 2mm or 0.5mm? Type of paper? Type of Eraser? Sketchbooks? Brands? Etc.) Why?

2) What's your favorite place to buy your supplies? Why?

3) Have you ever published and sold a book on Lulu.com? If so, are you happy with their services and the results? If you are not happy with it, then why? Do you use any other similar services?

4) What motivates and inspires you when your fresh out of ideas and have to break through creative block?

Latest happenings in the house of Pita.

What's up y'all? Hope your all just Spiffy.

I just wanted to open up and share some feelings with you all.

The amount of wonderfully talented people that I keep meeting on a daily basis is staggering! Don't even get me started about the mind numbingly exciting art that's being pumped out to DA on a daily basis. Inspirational and motivational bliss is all that I can say.

Thanks to all of you for all your wonderful comments so far. Thanks for being really cool and down to earth. Thanks for inspiring me every day. I hope to get to know all of you a little more each day.

I'm swamped with work and life problems (financial, sick family members, etc. etc.) and I struggle sometimes trying not to fall into depression , but I try to shake it off and stay focused as much as I can to try and get ourselves out of this hole.

I'm trying everything within my artistic power to do it. Working full time, freelancing and commissions and now T shirts. God willing , I will get us out of this f'ing quicksand!

Anyways. Once I get some T shirt and apparel designs up on my spreadshirt.com store, I'll let you know. I got some really cool ideas.

After receiving a random free week subscription to DA, I can finally say that I am convinced. I like the features you get for a subscription (plus it's cheap). So, I decided to give it a go a get myself officially "official". ha.

I was interested in a print account, but I wasn't sure how it worked. So, I asked around in the chat rooms and got some help.

Basically it breaks down like this:

A subscription to DA gives you "basic print account features". Buying a print account ($25 smackers) gives you more features plus extra profits. Plus, you only pay the $25 once. Even if you let your DA paid subscription expire, you still keep your full print account features intact as long as your DA account stays active.

So, I killed 2 birds with one stone. I got a full DA print account (For when I'm ready to use it) and 3 months of a DA subscription included. Pretty cool deal I must say.

If ya haven't done so, you should...it's pretty good.

Sorry for the lack of art posts. Too much work and freelance right now. Having some hard financial times and I'm tryin' to make as much money as possible to get out of the financial hole. Also, I'm going to start selling Tshirts and other apparel through spreadshirt.com . I'll let you all know.

Hi everyone.

I'm a long time Deviant lurker and first time member this week.

I decided to join so that I can communicate, share my opinions, be inspired, share ideas, help each other out and create art with all of you.

My schedule is very hectic (Work, Wife, Kids, Freelance, etc.), but I will try to participate as much as I can.
