FINALS ARE OVER! wheeoo no classes until mid-january!

i was "asked" to mat six pieces to submit to the student show at college, two for each studio class. of the six submitted, only one made it in.

Ive thought about it for a while, and ive decided that the main reason i am pursuing art as a "career" is the freedom that it comes with. That being said, to be truly free, i am going to need the skills to create anything and everything that i can dream of. Ill need to destroy those pesky restraints. those voices in my head that tell me when an idea is beyond my abilities need to be bitch-slapped and locked in the closet. Obviously this will take a long time. possibly longer than the 54 years i have left.

Logically, the most talented artist in the world also has the most freedom. to create what he or she pleases, when they please.

It is a very vague direction, but it is still a direction. if only i could get rid of these pesky foundation courses i might have time to do some real work.

its just starting to seem like a real waste of time.

im not happy, im not really being asked to think creatively, im just being told to paint certain colors or draw certain objects.

i suppose thats why you havent seen much work from me since college started. everything ive done is either from a still life or color wheel or some shit.

what im learning is all useful knowledge, i suppose..but i could learn those things on my own as i progress. trial and error is my preferred method of learning.

Art history is awesome though, surprisingly. Them greeks had mad skills.

ANYHOO...

Since i have no facebook and many of the modern means of communication arent much fun, Me and a friend of mine on the west coast are gonna start sending little tapes back and forth. i'm about halfway done with the first one, and its awesome. I'm having such fun recording things on it.

Oh,and i have to do a long-ass research paper for my english final, and i chose "the abuse of communication technology" as my topic. its so easy, i can rant about the state of human communication methods foreverr....

I applied for an undergraduate research grant and i was approved!
which is neeeat.
especially since i titled the project "leatherworking fiesta"
i didnt think theyd take me seriously, but they did! whoo!
i requested funds for leatherworking materials and tools, about 400$ worth of stuffs. i cant wait to get started.

College has begun.
it started out pretty slowly. but then all of a sudden it got good and crazy.
Not quite crazy enough, but acceptably crazy.
The teachers coordinate their onslaught, so that several huge projects will be due the same day.
But freshman year here is designed to weed out the weak. We've already lost a few people, and others have begun dropping classes to lighten the load.

Unfortunately, college is hardly any different from high school. or it is and none of the other freshmen understand that. little cliques have already begun to form. this is both sickening and highly amusing.
I've never been a fan of cliques. I don't even have a facebook, to the dismay of many here.

The teachers here are generally great though. some are very brutal, but i really really prefer it that way. No quarter is asked, and none shall be given.

im done with high school, and i am really enjoying the lazy summer days so far.
i have no interest whatsoever in going to college, but i suppose ill have a better chance of making some sort of income as an artist with a degree in some marketable form of art.
if not, the army will probably still be calling me, maybe i can join and get to play with missiles.

in other news, i had a little gallery exhibit a month ago, i called it "tool time", and it went rather well. lots of pretentious artsy farts, but dealing with them is just part of the job. we got ahold of some nice live music, some ice cream, it was a good time. hopefully "son of tool time" will happen before the summer is dead.

I havent done much since the summer started, art-wise, but i'm getting there. ive gotten sick of video games and t.v again, so its only a matter of time before boredom forces me to create.

two months without a journal update? several weeks without submitting arts?
what could possibly justify such neglect?

fuck if i know..

i suppose my growing distaste for this website, and the internet in general, is to blame...i'm finding that this form of communication doesnt really agree with me anymore..

i'm getting tired of logging onto this website's main page to find piles of myspace-esque pictures burying those rare pieces of decent art. I mean, i love seeing what you all look like.By all means, An occassional picture of yourself is great, everyone needs an ID, and theres nothing wrong with putting up a new one every so often.

But i keep finding deviants with galleries full of NOTHING but pictures of themselves. no other artwork or anything to justify it...just...Literally, six solid pages of photos taken of themselves. in the same pose. in the same room, at that same angle.

they are never even looking at the camera either...like they somehow caught themselves off guard ...



Anyhow, now that im done ranting about that, ill fill you in on what has been going on in my life in the past two months.
because you're all dying to know, yes?


In two days i will once more begin a four-week long course in painting at keystone college.Hooray!

I am attempting to take an AP test in studio art, which is already loads of fun. i sure hope i can pass, itll save me lots of money.

my theme for the artwork ill be submitting for the test is still changing on a daily basis, but right now, it is centered on-

-the interaction with everyday objects,(via desctruction)to give meaning to said objects. this may or may not also serve to depict the descructive nature of all human beings.

-the idea that in destroying these objects, i learn so much about them and i realize things i would never see otherwise. The catch is that i learn about the object by destroying it, and in the end the thing ive become so familiar with ceases to exist at all.. (i've got to work on the wording for that bit...hopefully ive somewhat explained my idea)

Also, i've sent in my enrollment deposit for the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design, if all goes as planned ill be moving down to lancaster mid-summer-ish. This will prove interesting, as i will have to live in an apartment, on my own.
I will surely die of malnutrition.

If anyone is interested in moving in with me and/or feeding me, by all means say so.

I've been given the task of making t-shirts for a friend of mine's band. Hopefully thisll provide some extra income for all of those unforgivable college expenses.

Last monday, a friend and i watched the entire Lord of the rings trilogy in one sitting. This is definitely the biggest achievement of my entire life. sitting for ten hours to watch frodo and friends takes a level COMMITMENT that so many people these days lack.
Needless to say, all of my peers at school are green with envy.

And now..

1- I contstantly Crack my knuckles and my neck. I need to do it when other people do it, as well. sort of like yawning, its very contagious.

2- I've been told that I have an angry-looking face.I guess I'm just one of those people who naturally looks mad all the time. Its probably because of the way my eyebrows are shaped.

3- I'm quite certain i will die at the age of 72, from falling down a flight of stairs.

4- "Kindgom of heaven", along with "a muppet christmas carol", is probably the only movie that i can watch over and over and never get tired of. I dont know why, but i always want to watch it.

5- I'm growing my hair out real long so i can get it permed and have a little afro for a while.

6- I am mediocre at playing bass guitar, but i am an air guitar/drum/bass MASTER. fer serious.

7- if i had a son, i would name Him Jumanji. (JUMANJI!) or maybe Jalupe (pronounced hah-lou-pee)

8- I'd like to move out west when i graduate high school, or maybe after college. or maybe down south.

9- I can't go into the downtown mall, for fear of seeing another gothic kid wearing a gir shirt and committing murder. I swear to go, i asked one kid if he had the dvds for the show, and he had no idea it was a show. he was under the impression that it was A GODDAMN CLOTHING LINE!! BISHSPIT!!

Today was my last day of school before the break, but fortunately SNOW has intervened, and given us an early start. whoo!


I got up in the middle of the night and shaved. My beard never saw it coming.

I'd post a picture, but then haszard would know what i look like. and that.cant.happen.


I can't stop eating cookie dough. Losing all that weight through exercise was rewarding, but gaining it all back is downright delicious.


Christmas is almost here, ive done most of the decorating, and most of mah shopping is done, i just need to start those damn cookies.OHM....NOHM.......OHNOM....NOM...

I should really get started on those college applications...

A Third God...

Blaargh my head screams with pain.

So yesh these past two weeks have been very important, art-wise. I went to National Portfolio day in both Philadelphia and New York, with all kinds of reps there from prestigious art schools,and i strutted mah stuff for the art schools there. I sure was sexy. so were lots of the girls there. Hot damn, you shoulda seen some of them...



I went to several schools, but ill only list the interesting ones..

Pratt institute-he stared intensely into my eyes the entire time. i think he may have been trying to make my head explode.he was nice, but i dont think i was accepted.


-Tyler School of art-I stood in line for about 40 minutes for these people, and thankfully mah portfolio was accepted.


Arcadia- i was the first Man to have my portfolio reviewed. i dont know if this is a good or bad thing.


-Kansas city art institute- These fuckers loved me, and my portfolio was accepted. i dont know why. they told me that the style of my work reminded them of jhonen vasquez's work, and this brought tears of happiness to my eyes.. I would love to go there.


-Drexel University-i dont remember this interview for some reason..hmm


-University of Portsmouth- there was nobody in line for these schools, and i found out why. the woman there is not very nice. She tore me up like tissue paper. it was a massacre.


-Motserrat college of art and design.- nothing notable, no outright acceptance or anything. but the girl reviewing the portfolios there sure was a sexy lady. she gave me her card an' everything.



-Pennsylvania college of art and design- My portfolio was accepted, but he said it was not because of my work, but my attitude and the way i talked about it. he said he could tell i was "hungry". om nom nom.. He is also recommending me for a buncha scholarships. hazzah!


All in all, it was a day of good, bad, and ugly. It was a day filled with tight pants and crazy haircuts. It was the beginning of a new Era. a preview of the madness to come. The sexy madness.

i ran after the jeep, and once it had stopped i pulled the door open and began to get in. at this point, by sister decides to GUN IT. I, hanging onto both the inside of the door and the inside of the car, attempted to haul myself into the car as my sibling roared with insane laughter. I was almost in when somehow the tip of my shoe and my toes were sucked under the back wheel of the car. The white tip of my converse shoe (which ive had for almost 2 years now) was promptly torn off, and my toes were smooshed.

My sock was unharmed, thankfully.
