Also, experimenting with Maya's different modeling techniques. Trying to decide which one I prefer. Currently leaning towards low poly modeling and using the smooth function to add detail. Even been toying with the idea of going back to MAX and working with that.

I just want to say thanks so much to everyone for all your amazing feedback and crits. It's very much appreciated. I'll try to return the favour but it might take me a while to work through them.

In Response to comments on the piece:
Some people wanted more realism and asked if the style was intentional. Yes it was. I'm experimenting with Maya and the rendering in an attempt to create a truly illustrative work with its own style. 3D is often used to create photo-realistic images. I'm trying to stay away from this and use 3D to create more classic looking illustrations that have an almost 2D look to them. The super-blown out whites are part of this style.

The head bugs some people and I knew this would be the case when designing it. Some people want to see a more human quality in the head. The intent was to go with a design that was purely functional and therefore void of any kind of emotion. Personally I find this more believable from a design perspective but it also makes the droid feel more like a machine rather than a mechanical suit with a guy inside. This isn't to say however that I won't try a more human looking droid sometime in the future.
