I am particularly fond of taking Dioxazine Purple push it till it is so dark that you have to look twice to know it is not black. With that color as a base I like to start at the top and make a gradient down to the belly that is a very eclectic very light purple. I set this on a gradient background that starts with Perinone Orange at the top and goes through lemon yellow ending in a yellow so pale it is off white.

If I could I would not only wear this but I would also paint my car like this.

I would like the inside of the handle to have 5 full inches of space so my whole hand comfortably fits into it. I would like a diameter of 3 1/2 to 4 inches. And the height needs to be about 6 to 7 inches. Stoneware would be nice but I will take anything I can get.

Ideally I would like the portrait of a bear wearing glasses but would happily take a plane cylinder or barrel shape cup with the word "Bear" in large iron oxide stain letters on the front.
A matching saucer would great too.

It is well known at work that for 8 hours a day 5 days a week the Studio in my space.

One of our reporters once warned another reporter that I manage the space with a "thundering velvet hand". I took this as a complement because I feel the people coming into my space need to treat each other, the space, and the equipment with respect but that they need to be comfortable to be able to do their well. I go out of my way to protect my equipment and to see that my people have what they need to perform at their best.

I have built 3 new drums. One is a 10 inch frame drum, I have a 14 inch frame drum, and I made a ceramic drum.

The ceramic drum is approximately 12 inches in diameter and 8 inches tall. The body is glazed forest green and the tuning ropes are red.

All 3 have deer hide heads

At this time none of the drum heads are painted. If someone wants something specific put on a commissioned drum, please let me know. Right now I am working on 2 large commissioned drawings so you should have a week or two before I will start painting drum heads.

The first was the Telemundo/Toys for Tots event. Including set up through tear down it is a 14 hour event with Santa being on his great chair for a little over 6 hours. We had well over 4500 in attendance with over 3000 kids actually coming to sit in Santa's lap. Along with helping with other problems, we gave away 2 ½ tons of toys, three tons of cookies, who knows how many pictures with Santa and a lot of joy. For me, this was a deeply moving event. We went as far as Santa Rosa on Tuesday night.  Wednesday was interesting because we spent the first half of the day not knowing what time it was.  Our car clock never did fall back then New Mexico has a different time zone.  What really helped cause the confusion was that the clock in the motel room was wrong.  The result was that we arrived in Albuquerque with time to spare.

Joanne has been doing better lately and last week we went to an all day belly dance workshop. Even though she had to sit down for a bit several times, we stayed all day and she danced much of the time. This is the first event we have made in almost 4 years because of her heath.

Three years ago, Joanne was diagnosed with kidney failure.  She has been on dialysis for almost 2 ½ years.

The doctors feel she is a good candidate for transplant.  To this end, we are applying to the Albuquerque transplant center to be put on their list.

When I worked at University of Oregon one of the graduate students that worked out of my shop paid for a 15 day sea kayak trip down the Baja Peninsula.

Will about 10 or so days before he was to leave he lost all the research work he had done for his thesis and had to rebuild everything and rerun all of his experiments before fall classes started again.

Since the trip was not refundable and I was working so hard to get him back up and running he gave the trip to me.

I myself find this to be wonderful piece

I find it very thought provoking and mind bending. But what really impresses me is the obvious thought and craftsmanship that went into this piece.

I find it to be a cliché and yet still very fresh and alive. It is an interesting piece that invites deep examination.

Yesterday morning, I tried to paint a basswood tiki I have been working on for two years. It is a commission piece. I ruined it when I first put a brush to it. The paint ran and got all blotchy from the get go. And then I started picking up a red blush all over it and I did not even have any red paint out. I have reread all the books I have with anything on how to paint carvings and I do not what I did wrong.

I needed it done by Saturday so I let it dry and try to sand it off to no avail. So I tried to carve it off and got the lips so thin they broke. I am doing what I often do and I am listening.

This is the face that children see and seek out for help.

My father and I look like twines if you mach photos of us up by age. Even the glasses seem the same. And yet I to the best of my knowledge no child ever came to him, climb up in his lap and tried to tell him what they wanted for Christmas.

I have laugh lines that are never far away and going back looking, my father did not have and laugh lines in his weathered Scandinavian farmers face.

I am afraid that I crash Saturday morning and slept all day. I did get free tickets from work and took Joanne to see the "Oakridge Boys Christmas Show" Saturday night. We often go to see our local hockey team on free tickets too.

Sunday we did not have enough gas to go to church. But I am proud of how much work I got done on a commission drum I am working on.

I have had two false starts on this because both logs cracked too badly to use for drums before I could get them hollowed but I have high hopes for this one.

Saturday we were suppose get up and go to the "Artisans in Wood" show where I was expected to demonstrate how to carve a large drum starting with only a log.

Joanne's blood sugar crashed and I had to take care of her and get her to an okay place.

I was very upset.

I got myself in as good a shape as I could and I went in to the show a little over an hour half late.

Sorry this is so long in coming.

We are just now starting to catch up with ourselves. We are moved in but not unpacked yet.

Our first news is that we moved from our single wide mobile home to a small three bedroom house. It has a building in back which we can use for wood shop and kennel room.  The building is conveniently divided in half so the wood and dogs can each claim half.

It is still in Amarillo.

It's nice to be on solid ground again but we do miss our dishwasher and front porch.  The dogs especially miss the porch.

The front room has the most light so it became my art room. Because we chose to go to Dallas and try to get on the list we are now with out internet and phone. We decided not to try to get the phone until after we move. Again because chose to go to Dallas we are loosing our house and will have to move by the end of the month.

I can only get on DA right now from work and this limits me to very small time spent on here.
