First, I want to thank all of you who responded to my last journal entry. It makes me feel better just knowing how much you guy care and willing to help a brother out. Any help is good help, and I know there are people in worse situations than mine and I wish I could do the same for those people too. I'll see if I can't resurrect the pimp connection and get some traffic flow to artists that also need a break from financial BS.

Now for an update for the Holiday Card/ATC send out.

Financially screwed

First of all, I'm sorry that more than 80 percent of these journals have been 'money pleas'. This has been a very bad month for me financially, as I also come to find out that I had no choice but to sign up for $70 health insurance on top of my license renewal and newly acquired car insurance. I won't have enough to cover my share of rent and utilities, and my schedule at work got cut down to 9 hours for this week. I am thinking of looking into filling out for a bridge card but I doubt they will accept me, and I heard the process is a pain in the ass. I won't be able to afford Christmas for my family either....again.

I know I mentioned in the last two journal entries that I'll be postponing ATCs. I did manage to finish a few, so for whoever those are you WILL get yours by Christmas. For the rest of you on the list, I'm afraid it'll be a bit of a wait. I don't know for how long either.

So once again I am opening up multiple offers for doing commissions. If you haven't noticed before, I cut down on most of the prices just for the end of the year. Every little bit will surely help get me out of this hell.

5th Annual Card Send Out Postponed to New Year

Well guys, talk about bad news bears. After doing a bit of thinking, I have come to the decision of postponing the Card Send outs. Technically it would be considered 'cancelled' because I won't be sending them out during Christmas. Instead they will be sent out in early January to commemorate the New Year. If you wish to receive a card, don't hesitate to let me know. ( but you have to read the rules below first ) October 20th is still the deadline!

So why am I doing this? Well, if you haven't read my journals up until now there's only one reason that always effects me; money. Last year when I did these I was putting myself at risk, because the cost of mailing labels, postage and envelopes can rack up quite a big amount. This year I have to force myself to make some sacrifices so I won't go through another roller coaster ride through money hell.

The situation as it stands is, I need to afford car insurance soon.
( which I will argue to this very day that it is outrageously UNFAIR to force people into buying when they can barely afford to take care of themselves. ) Also, I want to make a jump start on saving up more money to take care of myself and Riley, comic publications, etc.

So to combat this, I am once again going to alter the commission prices for the rest of this year. I know not very many people can afford to pay up for these kinds of services, but I'm hoping this will help. If anyone wants me to commission them but they have less than what I charge, we can work with doing a split-payment or something else. Please refer to the commission list below for an update on prices and additional features.

JAFAX 2010 + good ol' fashion advice please?

This year was plenty full of hits and misses for me. I missed out on going to some really awesome places, thanks to the unsubstantial income from previous events leading to me becoming flat broke. However, I have some special plans built for next year and JAFAX is one of them. Because the university campus is close to home, I'll be able to contribute and hopefully participate in the expo.

How will I do this? Artist Alley of course!

Despite the table sign-ups being well over 6 months away, I'd like to (slowly) get started on working on some stuff that would deem favorable to sell. Stickers, bookmarks, and prints are a sure thing and possibly buttons? ( If I can invest in a maker. )
As for what Anime series I'd like to focus on, I'm going to avoid doing mostly obvious and mainstream ( Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, etc. ) and instead mix it up with some old skool ( Bubble Gum Crisis, Robotech, Dominion Tank Police ) and some new skool ( D.Gray Man, VOCALOID ( even though it's not exactly an anime series ) )

I know I sound over zealous talking about it, but I feel pretty confident that If I get my materials together I'll be able to get in with no troubles.

I don't know how many of you watchers are from the area or even know about the expo, but if there's some bits of advice you'd like to throw out in general I'd love to read them!

You read me right kids. I decided to bend the rules a bit and allow 3 open requests to draw one character per person. Why specifically inked drawings? Because I'm in need of some practice terribadly, and it would be nice to draw other people's characters besides my own.

So here's a few rules if you're interested.

- Original characters only. This means no previously copyrighted materials or fan characters.
- No requests for fetish art, ultra violent themes, lolicon/shota, basically anything that would be considered illegal in the United States.
- I'm okay with nudity, as long as the request isn't pornography based.
- Visual references are highly recommended, be it your own drawings or other fan art people have done for you of the same character.
- All finished drawings will be e-mailed and/or noted. If you like it enough that you want it mailed out to you, the drawing will no longer be a free request but a commission. You will have to pay for it according to the guidelines below.

So the first three people that respond to this journal will receive a inked illustration from me in due time.

Well ladies and gentleman, I've gotten out of another annoying money fix thanks to friends and family. Thank you all!
But now I have an important announcement to make. The 23rd of this month will be the the first day of my moving out. That's right kids, the American dream is finally realized. For the first time I'll be miles away from local friends and family. Although rather exciting, I am scared shitless about the 'what-ifs'.
I'll be living with a friend (temporarily)until I can either live on campus or get my own apartment. Then hopefully after this I can bid the mitten state a hardy farewell. Of course this may not happen for an eternity, since I'll be in my home state for 4 more years to work for my bachelors degree. ( unless I can take summer classes to get myself to speed. )
So this also means I'll be putting a few projects and commissions on hold until I get situated, which will be around in early June hopefully.

Since last night, word about the situation in regards to my unpaid commission spread about like wildfire. I'd like to give my thanks, make some points, and bring forth a warning.
First my thanks. I'd like to thank each and every one of you for coming into my page and showing your support. It makes me feel better knowing that there are artists that understand situations like this, be it getting dicked out of money or hanging on a thin wire when it comes to paying rent and necessities.
For those that decided to step out and bring this into public attention, you are very bold for doing so. I would have never expected such support, but I cannot lie....I do feel somewhat ashamed. Not because of what they did, but because I wish I could've resolved this on my own. I don't like putting my messes on others, and I usually try to work alone when it comes to solving matters. In reality, there are some things you just can't do alone. These people, whom volunteered to go out of their way to make the situation clear to the public eye, made me realize this. I thank you deeply from the very bottom.
Now for the warning. A couple of the artists that mentioned Bruja on their journals formed links to her account. I'd like to strictly request that nobody goes into her archive to start any public/private lashings at her. The last thing on my mind right now is a hack war/ flame war or misunderstandings that will make the situation worse than it should be. The only thing that can be done now is for her to contact me so we can get this resolved, hopefully in a civil like manner.
I know I can't speak for every artist that's been dicked out of money. But I know it doesn't matter if it's a first time or a multitude, nobody deserves to get ripped off. And with the economy rapidly going downhill, it makes that situation even more horrifying.
Again I thank everyone. I don't want anyone to suffer the same way I have.

Things are slowly picking back up from where I fucked myself over financially. My ex is going to cover both of our shares of rent for this month so I am semi-relieved. I have 2 upcoming interviews, 1 job I might land, and 1 I am waiting for a call back from. All retail/quick service crap but it's better than nothing. This is my last week of being here in Florida, and that means that I'll be expecting some drastic changes for when I go home. These changes involve finances and a lot more of it. This includes a higher rent charge, being temporarily jobless, and having to scrape by for food and necessities, and don't even get me started on gase prices.
Once again, I'm in need of help. Granted comissions don't pay rent, but they certainly help put little bit of gas in the car to LOOK for a job. So two things have been added...
1. I now have a PayPal account for those who are leery with snail mailing money order, checks and cash.

All the free sketches are done, so I'm pretty impressed with myself, let alone the immediate reaction. Thanks for letting me sketch your characters people! In fact, I might just do a second round before I leave for Michigan again.

Well what's new? Non-art wise, I am very irritated and disappointed in my job with Disney. I won't get into exact details yet but expect a very lengthy f.u rant against them soon. ( Ok granted I never liked this company's recent practices, but now I have PERSONAL reasons to hate them. ) I've already had enough people asking me why I was doing this internship in the first place, so I am not going to bother explaining myself. I'm already tired of playing the role of a broken record machine, and already tired of telling everyone that this wasn't an art internship to begin with.
Now for more pleasant news. [link] is now hosting the 2008 annual Speed Death Tournament. Against better judgment I MAY participate. The outlook is 50/50 since I have my Fatchunk entry to redo.
I also need some serious help with a few things that I hope you fine awesome folk can assist me with. First is Paypal. A lot of people like to pay comissions through this system in favor of mail outs, so I want to set my account to where money can be sent through. How do I even do this?? To me the website is clusterfucked and I can't get proper info on what to do.

Well everyone sucessfully recieved their christmas cards, and Svarta got her comission pack. All is full of win and yay.
Well, I wish I could say the same for my christmas, birthday, and new years. I won't get into any dramatic details, but let's just say I never felt more hurt and depressed. If anything like this repeats I'm just going to stop celebrating these end of the year festivities all together.

Oh my god...what the hell was I thinking when I said I wouldn't offer comissions anymore?
So...I did alot of thinking about my current financial situation, and I realized that...
1. Because I'm no longer living with my folks anymore, money...has been very hard to come by for bills and rent, as well as tuition.
2. Michigan has been rated the second worst state for employment and job opportunities ( please correct me if this demographic is wrong. ) and yes, this does effect me as well.
3. In my current job, all full timers including myself have had their work hours drastically cut down to 32 hours a week. I cannot live off on that since the appartment I live in is $1,000 plus dollars. Even with three people paying rent sometimes it's not enough.

I am on the verge of getting an overdraft fee for a third time this year, and I don't think I can deal with this lacking of funds anymore. It's hurting me, it's hurting my way of living, it's hurting my chances of ever graduating from community college on time, and so I am pretty much financially fucked in a corner.

So for the 5 millionth ( unsucessful ) time, I am now going to advertise comissions again.

My only main request ( and I don't want to sound like a dick head here ) is to please refrain from giving me the " I'd help you out but--" speech. I didn't mind this so much when I was living back at home, but now that my situation is different, this type of commentary to me is equal to a kick in the face and I can make do without it.

"List 10 things about your art"

1. I started drawing when I was in kindergarten. I remembered I was just bored and screwing around with paper, and suddenly I found myself drawing these bug eyed characters. I was so impressed with myself I declared HELLS YEAH!! I can do this for a living! I couldn't stop doing graphite since.

2. As long as I can remember, I've had this chronic habit of constantly doing small sketches in places where I shouldn't be, especially when I'm on the clock at work. It's gotten to a point where I even have a small sketchbook made just for scrapbooking them.

3. Like any good artist, I often bang my head up against a wall and ridicule myself for not being so good with drawing certain things...or everything in general. I won't lie, I sometimes feel super inadequate when I look at a beautifully, well detailed illustration done by someone so much younger than me. That or when I finish a big project and look at it 12 seconds later, suddenly I realize..."SHIT!! Everybodys face looks like down syndrome!!"

4. I detest drawing backgrounds and hands. I'm getting better with hands, but when it comes to drawing buildings...playing around with perspective is a whole different type of math that I feel that I will never understand in full.

5. My dream ambition is to become an animator, and I've strongly held up this desire since I left kindergarten. My major goal is to do an animated short movie based on my old webcomic, but I am still saving up on the essential equipment for this, which can be expensive as hell.

6. When it comes to personal tastes in art and cartoons, there are some things I just don't like or absolutely detest. One is abstract art. Sorry but to me this genre is an excuse to vomit random shapes and lines all over a canvas, just to make a rich killing at some crack head's appartment aka 'galleria'. Next is 3D animation. GRANTED If it's done right and it's obvious that the animators took alot of time and effort into it, I don't mind watching it. But shows like 'Jimmy Neutron' and ' Butt Ugly Martians' makes me wonder if they were even trying to make a good show, or if they were just making it all 3D because they had the money to blow and couldn't care less if they sucked.

7. Influences. My first major influences came from manga/anime, Clamp and Sailormoon specifically. ( yeah, yeah It was 1994 and I was still new to the genre. shush! ) After that I took interest in Yoshitaka Amano's prints and fell in love with his surrealistic style. Currently my main influences are Alessandro Barbucci of SkyDoll fame, my long time buds, and various artists at VOID. There's way too many to list, so I'll let you guess who these people are <3.

8. I have achieved a couple of awards for my animation work during my high school days. One was this shotty PSA montage on gun control back in '02, and it somehow ended up getting the 'Award for Excellence' by the Detroit Institute of Arts. A year later , I was granted a 'Best in show' for a 2D cartoon me and a few others did during Student Animation Workshop in 2003.

9. I'm going to community college to nab an associates degree in Media and Communication arts. Not that it'll do me a lick of good here in Michigan...*grumbles*. I would like to get a Bachelors in art, but I doubt this will ever happen due to my piss poor status.

10. I have bad luck when it comes to finishing comics and doing collaborations. Collabs not so much I guess, since me and my friends have important real life agendas to keep such as school and work. Otherwise, plans usually fall through like rotten swiss cheese holes. Comics in general I have no excuse for really. I re-worked my own webcomic 3 times and it's still collecting dust from the last time I touched it! That's one of my main reasons why I joined the entervoid community, to learn myself some deadline and stick with it!

Another year passes us, and all I can say to that shit is THANK.GOD. 2006 was as big of a dud like the year before. It was nothing but a fat pile of emotastic and monotony, which I will not get into.
The new year has actually brought some nice suprises for me here and there. I got a submission published in starmen.net's 2007 calendar, which you can check out here [link] .
I got the December spot, which is ironic since it's my favorite month.
Since I'm not going to school this semester, I may be able to devote more time to drawing again.
Im going to try and pull myself to evolve my style and skills again.
I don't have too much to say right now, so I'll leave it at that.

It's a suprise to even myself that I decided to not go on a deleting spree in my account yet. Instead, I scrapped all of what I felt was crap quality. I might just do that will all my stuff at the end of the year, just show off the best of what i did and pitch the rest. It's sad that most of what I drew this year was anatomically incorrect garbage and quick doodles. I'm really wishing for a more inspirational 2007, and I hopefully I can self teach myself some new techniques.

You guys are probably all wondering why I haven't been posting up any new art, and when I do post it's just a canker sore of junk work.
In reality I AM busting out artistically, it's just that I don't have any finished pieces to show boat yet.
I've been working on 2 paintings, one of which is a collab between me and *ghiti .
I am also working on the x-mas stickers, in which I will now make a list of participants below.
I've been contributing a little more to starmen.net, and will be working on a submission piece for their 2007 calender, that is IF it gains acceptance.

Come december 14th I'll be on a major burn out tirade, and you can blame the holiday retail rush for it. I'll be going back to 40 hours a week with only 2 days off to my name.

I could say more, but I'm comming down from a caffiene buzz. I'm so gonna pay for this, I just know it.
