it's waaaaay more risque then anything i've ever posted on here. i know there will be comments on whether this is art or porn - i leave that up to the viewer. my intention was, as the title of the series states, to show softness under harsh lighting (a single fluorescent coil lamp)... after discussion with the model, we decided to go this route.

from a technical standpoint, this was also my first time shooting a model fully in raw format, and using a raw work flow for processing; no major manipulations were done... just some simple blurring to eliminate any imperfections and contrast adjustment to bring out the lighter tones. if you are interested in how to get such warm tones when using fluorescent lighting... drop me a line and i'll give you the details.

built a big 'new' shiny computer from parts i've found here and there. i'm not kidding - it's big. like bar fridge big. but i like it. never thought i'd need terabytes of storage back when i was playing Buck Rogers on my first Colicovision Adam computer. anyways, should be online soon with all my photos and programs loaded up. cross your fingers.

so i had a busy weekend as you may have noticed... two photo shoots! one with the lovely Tanya, another first-timer - great to work with, a natural. and one with Karen, a modelling veteran, quite fearless and full of great ideas. it's been a busy few weeks, and i've been overwhelmed with all the comments and faves and the like... much appreciated, i'm trying to keep up.

i have a few more shoots coming up in the next few weeks, like the last couple involving models. i'm really starting to get into shooting portraits, which is surprising as i've generally avoiding shooting people (adults at least) in the past as they were always the most difficult subject to shoot.

i also have an urge to do some architectural shots... i've really been inspired by some of the old Victorian houses around here - doors especially, i love old doors. i've been experimenting a little with HDR, but have come to realize i don't have the computer horsepower to play around with it on anything larger than 6MP pictures or so, so i'll keep that on the shelf for now.

that's all i have... i'll try not to go so long between updating this thing in the future.

so 1 and 6 are taken care of, 3 is in progress, 4 seems a little extreme as i don't quite have a large fan base (so i'll pick a couple)... i guess that leaves 2 and 5. so eight random facts about myself:

1. i have a degree in chemistry; was working on a minor in physics too, but got bored of it
2. i've played bass in several bands over the years (trust me, you haven't heard of them); if you're nice i might show you a picture or two
3. i don't eat anything that had lungs
4. i've been doing nature photography since i was a young boy; if you need help identifying a plant, i can probably help
5. i live in Canada, but i don't play hockey (still drink beer though)

i can't get over the overwhelming response i got to my b&w series from Peggy's Cove in Nova Scotia, Canada. so many comments and favourites - i'm smiling ear-to-ear... especially at a few of you special people out there (you know who you are ).

i just uploaded some pics from the arboretum in Guelph, Ontario, Canada... about an hour away from my home. they are some simple b&w pictures taken using b&w film, resulting in what i think are some really nice tones.
