"Close it! Close it! No one is getting out of here without paying", That was what some of the survivors of the terrible fire in Assuncíon last sunday heard, acording to this article in a french paper. So to save a few bucks in merchandise the "responsibles" in this shopping became responsibles for the loss of 340 people.

I cannot write of how much I am enraged and amazed by this inhumane act of greed. That's why I will only make a simple homage to this country that have lost too much for to little.

The Anima Mundi Festival just finished it's Rio de Janeiro fase last sunday. And like every year I was present there.

For those who don't know it, Anima Mundi is a yearly festival of animated movies the happen in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. And every year it draws thousands and thousands to the movies arround the city to watch animations. The jury who chooses who will win are the people who come to watch.

This year the winner in the best short feature was "Harvey Krumpet", the movie is a comic drama. I can't tell you how much I loved it. But there were other movies that are worth mention here :

Jurannessic • In-Ah Roediger / Yann Avenati / Simon Andsivean / Hervé Barberean / Louis Clichy • France - Best protfolio.

Creature Comforts 'Cats or Dogs?' • Richard Goleszowski • UK - 2nd place in the best short category.

Little Things • Daniel Greaves • UK - 3rd place, best short. (this is realy good also)

There she is! • Amalloc • South Coreia - 1st place category web.

Unfortunaly the category of a brasilian movie, the winner was a some what desapointment.

Senninha em Dia de Mudança • Mário Mattoso Neto • Brasil - 1st place best brasilian movie.

I've been idle, I know! But I have been taking pictures, now with a manual film camera. It is a Pentax P3, and I had it borrowed until recently from my good friend *euscos. I say until recently, because, one month (a little more) ago, in my birthday he gave it to me. The best present I could ever get. Thanks brow, really love it.

I have been using it, taking many pictures of my city, mainly of the people partying during the night with out flash. I had done many BW shots, some slides, but that's all not very useful for post here, I don't have a scaner, not even a flatbed, much less a film scanner. And I need one badly.

As usual, it happens you when you do somthing senstive careless. I was installing my fedora core 2 and accidentaly formated the wrong partition.

Well fortunally is not that bad, I did had some backup in my works computer. I do not know how much exactly I lost, I know I lost all my stored emails. probably some of the digital pictures I took this year.

Well maybe I don't want to know how much I lost...

The carnival is a time where we Brasilians that are already festive and party hungry get even more so. It is 4 days where almost everyone party no-stop. In the streets we have the " blocos de carnaval" where a band play samba. This samba can be a specially composed for this parade or a mix of known sambas from older times known as " marchas de carnaval". The clubs and nightclubs make special balls for the carnival.

All the people pays attention to the competition between the "escolas de sambas", witch translate to "samba school" but they aren't in fact schools. They are groups of people from several localities arround Rio de Janeiro, usualy very poor localities, that spend the hole year creating a spectacle that is unforgettable to those that are on it or just watching.

The carnival is a very special time of the year for the brasilians and if you are thinking in coming here during our summer I would sujest strongly to come during the carnival.

As a tool to train my yet poor french I do try, with much effort and a lot of help from google (used basically as a dictionary) I have tried to write some comments in that language. Off course many things get quite weird in the end, so I would like to those who are native french speaking to aid me in my quest to learn french. Please correct my french whenever you found something wrong. I know that many think that correcting a second language is not part of the netiquete, but this would only help me in the end.

One more year, those pass really quick these days. Looking back, 2003 wasn't too bad. Sure I had really bad moments, I almost lost my beloved grandmother, her heart is failling but she is now at home and well. I also did have good moments, I did for the first time travelled to europe. Many of the results of this trip can be seen here. I started to learn French, witch I am loving.

2004 will not be diferent, it have bad moments but it will bring unexpected happy moments. Mentioning Brasil many people get interested, sure enough 99,5% will ask either about football (soccer to the Americans) or about girls.

Brazilian people don't think on themselves as nationalists. But the truth is that we are nationalists, not in the American sense that will put a flag in everywhere you look at. Brazilians like to talk about how bad Brasil is, how everything is so much better in the "developed countries". But if you're a foreigner, don't do this kind of comment, even if you heard one of us doing it before. It would must certainly make us mad.

Our country have it's problems, we have a high rate of illiteracy. Many of us are hungry, and can't eat. We have a serious problem of money distribution, where 1% hold the majority of the richness of the country.

But even with all this problems we are a happy and peaceful people. We like to party, and we will even for the faintest reason. We welcome almost everyone. Our country is rich in nature beauties, and we don't have volcanoes, earthquakes or hurricanes. And we like to say that "god is Brazilian". ]]> ~bogado
