faq - requests









*warning: rant ahead.* (or just scroll down to the cute stuff)

On my old pc I had really old versions of adobe/macromedia software for the simple fact that I couldn't afford to buy the newer versions. So I go to adobe's website to find out how much it will cost to replace photoshop, imageready, flash, illustrator, dreamweaver, acrobat, etc. and the have a similar bundle for about $2500.

I know I've complained about this before but here's the thing. My husband keeps dropping hints, bringing up, showing me articles, videos, interviews, etc. about all these people who make millions from making websites, blah, blah, blah. NO PRESSURE OR ANYTHING! *pulls out hair* Anyways... so I'm not planning on making millions but it is making more sense to me that if I'm going to do all this stuff on the internet than maybe I should at least try to make a little money for my time. The whole do what you love kind of thing. I have an idea of a website that I like, that I think others might like... I dunno, maybe it'll work, maybe it won't. I was working on it while I had the 30day trial of photoshop and now I'm trying my darnedest to use gimp to finish up but it's not working. The program keeps messing up and shutting down unexpectedly. If I'm going to do this I need to have photoshop. If I'm going to actively pursue getting jobs I have to have photoshop. There's no way around it.

So here's how the usual conversation goes:

me: Man, I've got to find a way to earn enough money to buy the software.

him: That girl that started that myspace layouts that's worth millions only spent a little money to start her company so I don't see why...

me: Maybe she's using a different program, maybe she's using pirated software or it was a gift or just something not mentioned in the article. Whatever. I know what I need and how much it's going to cost.

him: Well, if you spend that much on software you're not going to get enough of a return to make it worth buying.

me, mumbling under my breath: Oh really... Thanks for the vote of confidence...

him: Why can't you use the old software again?

me: Our stupid new computer is to new for the old software to work so now I have to spend $2500 to replace what I had before.

*long pause*

him: Wouldn't it be easier for me to just buy you an old computer to use the old software on?

*bangs head on desk*

I guess it could possibly work, but I'd rather have up to date versions and not have to bounce back and forth between two computers. I see buying the software it as a business expense.. something I could take out a loan for. And I'm sure I could get a return on the investment.

Anyways... sorry for all the whining. I'm just getting frustrated because I want to get to work on the site. I've the got the domain registered, the software tested, the template customized, but I only have a little bit of stuff to upload to it.

I took my already cute phone and made it cuter! "Brilliant!" I made the backgrounds, skins, etc. I'm going to upload them to the site and here when I make sure they're perfect.

I've been sketching a lot lately so expect more deviations... or scraps, I'm not sure.







So this is my new journal layout! It's Finch and her pet rabbit Faffy (who's a boy despite the weird name). It might not look great in all browsers/resolutions... I made it specifically for to look normal for me since everyone elses looks weird on my monitor (1600x1050). Sorry about that.

So I was reading this article [link] today on what NOT to get your Valentine and it's so off.

News flash. Not every girl is a primadonna. Some of my favorite Valentine's/Birthday/Christmas gifts from my husband were:
1.) gameboy with games. I love video games, he hates them.
2.) tickets to "the big game". We're both MAJOR Saints fans (I watch ESPN more than he does) but thanks to a huge waiting list, he could only get 1 season ticket. Since he's the actual New Orleanian he deserves it more... but every now and then he either gives me his or manages to get another one so I can go to. They're good seats, too! Right above the Saints locker room entrance.
3.) a gift certificate. I got an ipod, a ton of accessories and a buttload of music. I use it every day. One of the best presents EVER!
4.) appliances. He also bought me a vacuum cleaner, a badass microwave/vent thing and a matching stainless steel dishwasher.
5.) dinner. My husband is a way better cook than I am. So on special occasions he makes a delicious Salmon dish or steak... *drools* Maybe I should drop a few hints for Valentine's day.

And personally, I'd love a gym membership... I wouldn't take it as an insult especially since it's been something I've wanted to for a while. It'd be like a mini vacation everyday from the two wee ones. I could drop them off in the nursery for an hour and swim, play racquetball, chill in the hot tub... maybe even actually workout.

I dunno. I just hate it when they lump everyone in one category. I'm a chick, but I'd rather have an autographed football jersey or a nintendo ds over a fancy bracelet any day.









First off... GO GIANTS! Booyah, Patriots. Neener booboo.

Secondly, best Bacchus EVER! We always score big on the throws at Bacchus, but this year we were just as excited about the floats... star wars, a giant tacky bust of hulk hogan, ninja turtles and rafiki holding up simba! It was pure awesome. I took some pictures but trying to take photos of moving objects surrounded by crowds of people at night with condensation on the lens of my point and shoot camera is ... uh... hard. Most came out blurry but I'll upload them to my flickr some time soon.

Now onto other stuff...

I'm working on getting a new graphics program... but I can't decide between graphics gale or promotion. I don't have enough for photoshop so I'm just focusing on something for pixel art now, but getting PS is the ultimate goal. Eventually. Why does PS have to be so friggin expensive?

I want to split my site into two... NM would still be a portfolio, but I'd like to take all the bases, freebies, etc. off and put them on a separate site geared towards cute pixel freebies and fun stuff. BUT! I can not for the LIFE of me figure out a name! And it's KILLING me! I keep coming up with stuff but I'll go to godaddy just to find out it's already taken. Fudge. So I'm a bit stuck.

Is there a magic domain name generator out there somewhere? Some island god I should be praying to?










You know that computer I got to replace the one that died? Well, it died. So this is the second time I've lost all my art, music, and other random files. Since the other computers didn't have working cd burners I couldn't make any backups. I'm still saving both PCs in hopes that someone someday can remove my stuff the hard drives.

Now I have a new computer. It's the first new computer I've ever had. It's nice... has a dvd player/burner, a huge LCD monitor, a lot of hard drive space... I'm just having some trouble getting used to it. I actually liked my CRT and it served me well, especially when it came to pixel art. This one makes everything look so different I'm not sure how I'm going to handle making art when I can again. I can't be sure that it will look right to other people with different monitors.

I also lost all my graphics programs. And considering I was using Photoshop ... 5 or some other old as hell version, I figure I better not install it on this new PC because it probably won't work right with Vista. I want to get a new version of Photoshop, just not the newest. Unless I have to. I mean, it's expensive as all get out so it would be a last resort kind of thing.

Anyways... Don't expect anything new from me for a while. I'm sorry to the one person whose shop order I have yet to finish. I have to start from scratch again... with that and the layout I was working on. But I did upload most of the graphics to the two games I was working on the my website. I just won't be able to do anything with them for a while.

It's nice to have a new pc... but it sure sucks that I lost everything from the old one.










So I've been working on a couple games for cell phones, right? Well, I'm specifically making them for 176x220 so they'll fit my razr and some other phones that people I know have. But I was just wondering... what kind of phone do you have and what resolution is it? If there's alot of people with the same resolution (but different than mine) then I might have to make another size for the game.

What kinds of games do you like to play on your phone? Adventure, puzzle, cards, etc.? Right now I only have bejeweled and NYNights but I want some more puzzles game. I love solitaire, too, but I can't find the one I had on my old phone so I'm bummed about that.

What kinds of games do you wish you had? I wish I had a cool adventure game... or memory. I haven't found much for my phone that I like yet. Guess that's why I've been so drawn to making my own lately.


I love taking pictures, but I don't upload them here... only on flickr. Most of mine are boring. I just recently got a decent camera so I only have pictures of pets, my city, random crap.
