Well all. it has been a while, but i am back to work. well not totally back to work, but i am drawing again.

I have a new project that i am doing with my pal Paul Milligan. It's a fun story with aliens, monsters, and a hot girl in a Minnie Mouse dress that saves the day. So i am working on some character sketches and designs. Its fun work. and good practice. I have never really done aliens or monsters. So its nice to play and experiment. Also its fun to be able to play with tweeking my style. Unlike being locked into a project where the style has to remain the same through out.

So check back soon. I should have some new stuff for ya.

Well after receiving many samples and many of them very good, I have decided that i will be inking the books myself. Not to say that there wasnt anyone good enough, because they were. I decided that i wanted a certain look, i dont know how to put it into words, but it would be easier to get the look by me doing it. than having to go back and forth with someone else. Plus this will stretch my inking muscles. It always good to be able to market yourself with more than one ability.

thanks again for all the submissions.

It was a great experience and i will definitely go back next year.

I covered the cost of the table and met some really cool people. Plus Austin is awesome.

The live art show afterward was super cool. Great talent like Kristian Donaldson, Nick Derrington, and a favorite of mine Evan Bryce, who i did an art trade with(google him, his work is amazing)

I also did a piece that night. It received alot of interest, but the pieces weren't selling as much as we had hoped.
So after a few months of work, and a couple months of break, i have finally finished my first Professional penciling gig!!!!

The book is "Corrective Measures" Volume 2. The trade is being published through Arcana Comics. the first volume came out last September, and with very little press or marketing, it did fairly well.

Being my first job, i will tell you, it was a roller-coaster of sorts. I originally was signed on to do the entire 3rd installment, but for what ever reason, the writer, Grant Chastain, bumped me to the three earlier issues. Which was totally fine with me. There were some hiccups here and there. During my work on the book, i got divorced. And there was a time where the book was on hold because there wasnt enough money to pay the people making it.

I tell you one thing, when first getting started and wanting so desperately for something of yours to hit the shelf, working on a trade can be a tough book to make you first book. At times it seemed like it would never end. That my stuff would never get released. The book still isn't released yet, but i am done penciling it, the inker is almost done inking it, and 4 out of the total 6 issues have been colored.

So we are hoping for the book to be out by Comic-con this year. Which would be great. that way when i am peddling myself to editors, i have a book to show.

Anyway i will keep all of you posted as the book gets closer to release. but for now i have to go look for more work.

---where's the unemployed comic artist line again?

So it's been a while since i updated my journal, and there is a lot going on.

First The second volume of Corrective Measures, for Arcana Comics, is back on track. I am almost finished with issue #10. I should have it done by early next week. I also just posted some inks that I just got back. That means that soon I will be on to issue #11. The downside, is that my deadlines are much tighter now. I need to have the last two issues, #11 and #12, done by the end of the year. YIKES!!! Can you say overtime. But it will be well worth it, because that means the sooner it will be out on the shelves for you guys to buy. WOOOHOOOO!!!!

And B, i will have a table in artist alley at Wizard World Texas this year. The show runs November 7-9. Since I have a day job, I will not be there on Friday the 7th, but I will be there all day the other tow days. I will be doing sketches, and will have some copies of the first volume of Corrective Measures for sell. So if you guys haven't picked it up, now is your chance. I should hopefully have some other Arcana products for sell as well. I will be sharing a table with Joe Eisma (Viper Comics' Dummy's Guide and Devil's Due's Serpo artist), and a friend of his who's name slips my mind right now. They are both great artists. so make sure you drop by and say hey.

Well that is enough rambling for now. Back to work. And i hope to see you at WWT this year.

There was some really strong talent out there like David Mack, Kristian Donaldson, and James O'Barr. I did two pieces. A Midnighter and a Cannonball. The Midnighter went for $75, and the Cannonball went for $130. We raised just shy of $4000. All the proceeds wen to the Ronald McDonald House.

You can check out me in action at the link below

[link]

Then Saturday was Cape! the free comic book day convention in dallas. This was another great day. It is a free outside event. I met alot of great people and did some sketches. I also got a chance to catch up with Paul Benjamin and Matt Sturges. Also met Greg Pak, Marc Andreyko, and Paul Villarrubia, who are all really graet guys.

So all in all it was a great weekend, even though i have lobster red arms.

So i have gotten some new stuff.

First of all, until I get my website started, i have set up a blog. the Url is on my front page here, but it is [link] .

Second of all, i have been fortunate enough to have been given 3 more issues of "Corrective Measures" to do. I am taking over issues #10-12. These are the issues to be releases before the ones i have been working on. Which means that i get published sooner. so yippee for me.

Also remember to look for the first six issues of Corrective Measures due to hit shelves in July or August this year.

Awesome. I finally have over 1000 page views. Now i Feel like a real deviant artist. I will tell you. I wondered how long it would take me to get there. Now i will obsess over getting to 2000 page views.

Well I have almost completed my second issue of the Corrective Measures OGN. The first 6 issue OGN should be on the shelved in Junes or July so make sure you watch for it. the story is really pretty cool. Plus, if you plan on picking up my issues next year, it won't make much sense if you haven't read the first two OGN's. Plus i would ask that you support the first two OGN's so mine have a chance of actually hitting the shelves.

I also just sent over the pencils for the cover of another Arcana book called "Penance: Trial of the Century". The first issue was done by Greg Horn, who is just amazing, but issue 2 is mine. It should hopefully hit the shelves in July or August i am hoping. but i will keep you posted on that.

Well thanks for all the support. I hope you guys are enjoying my work, and enjoying watching me grow as i do moe and more pages.

So WonderCon went better than i had expected it to. I was only there for the day, but for the amount of time i had on the floor, i got to talk to everyone i wanted and needed too. Several companies and artists had some really great things to say.

Cartoon Network said that i do "kick @$$ work." Of course i don't expect anything out of them since i dont do animation, but i still figure that they know what they are talking about.

I met the editor in chief of aspen, and he thinks that i am ready to get work. he wants to see more and wants me to stay in contact with him.

Also Platinum Studios is wanting to try and plug me into their mix as well.

I also got a chance to meet Sean O'Rielly, the head of Arcana. he loved the pages for the issue i just finished for them, and is going to try and throw me some cover work.

So all in all it went very well. I am hoping that by the time San Diego rolls around, i will be up to Marvel or DC level.

back to work.

So I finished issue #13 of "Corrective Measures" yesterday. Talk about a sense of accomplishment. I really like how it turned out. especially the last few pages. It's funny. i have found that some of my favorite panels are not the big exciting ones, though they are cool. But the are the smaller ones that maybe no one will really notice. But there is just something about them that turned out just like you hoped or better. Any way I hope you guys have enjoyed what i have posted from the book so far. They are off at the inker now, and i will post some of those as they are completed.

As for now I am off to work on issue 14. This one is a bit exciting for me. It's all normal stuff. No heroes or super powers in this issue. It is very Character driven. There is action. But it is kind of neat to draw something that is real life normal. As a kid you always draw the hero and the capes and the claws. But for some reason i am just as excited to draw real life. Kind of weird huh.

So have may have gotten my big toe in the door. I have now gotten a gig doing six issues for an independent book that will be published through Arcana. And I am getting paid. Not much, but hey for the first time out, really what I am concerned with is getting published. And I get to design some characters. A little scary, but pretty exciting at the same time. Its a really cool story, and cool characters. The issues won't be out till probably this time next year. This book is actually being worked on a few issues in advance. It is going to be in graphic novel format, with 12 issues per novel. The artists are finishing up the last few issues for this first season now, and should be done and on shelves in June or July. So I am fast at work, and loving every minute of it. I will keep you posted with more info as it is available.

Alright. I now have 500 page views. Thanks everyone for checking out my stuff.

So I got a chance to meet Cully Hamner and Tim Bradstreet, and re-meet Matt Sturges this past Friday. It was great fun. The first people i ever met in the industry were two writers. One of which was Matt Sturges. He told me that at this point I am beyond him being able to critique.

Cully and Tim, though, had some really good input for me. They both said that they see serious potential. They pointed out some things to work on, which i know are weeknesses too. But they said unfortunately the only way to fix it is just to do more. So its just all about staying persistent. It was really nice of them to take the time out to give my stuff a look and help me out. And it was nice to hear that i could have a chance at breaking in to the business. So onward I go. Keep working until I make it.

Please remember to keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I prepare for San Francisco. that i get some really good stuff ready and continue to improve.

Thanks again for all the hits.

I am just gonna draw and draw. I might skip a few pages that i think arent the kind of page i need to show.(i.e. splashes. double page spreads.) And as i get several roughs done, i will start on the finished pages. i think this will give me a good variety of pages to show when i get to San Diego. So she gave my wife and I money and said, "Go and buy your Christmas gifts, and wrap them and bring them on Christmas day." Great idea. That way she doesn't have to shop, and we get exactly what we want. No returns or exchanges necessary. Well, one of the gifts that i bought myself is the Marvel Civil War script book. I am stupid excited about it, but its killing me because I can't use it right now. I guess its just me wanting to be honest and not use it until Christmas, but its like placing a cupcake in front of a 3 year old and saying that they cant have it. GRRRRRR. But I think that it will be worth it. I am super excited on getting to try my hand at scripts from such a big Marvel storyline.
So Saturday went very well. I received a lot of good feedback concerning my pages, and some really good critiques on making my stuff go from good to great. I was really surprised at the amount of time most of the people took to really look at my stuff, and there were a couple guys, Brian Denham being one of them, really took some time to give me some really strong technical pointers and show me some tricks. I did have 3 or four smaller publishers, and when i say smaller, i mean not DC or Marvel, show some interest. They might even be interested in having me do some work for them. I am really looking forward to that. Even though, i was asked my page rate a couple times and had no idea what to say. But all in all it was a very good time and i met some really great people and gathered some really great info and knowledge.

So tomorrow is the big day. I'm going to WWTX. The plan is to get there right at 10am. Start showing as many people my portfolio that will look at it. I'm not expecting a job to come from tomorrow, i mean let's face it, it is my first time out of the shoot. But I do hope to at least get some kind of good feed back and possibly raise an eyebrow or two.

Its crazy i have been working on this for two months. The first stuff was ok, but it lacked alot of things. I got a chance to meet Paul Benjamin(Hulk writer) and Matt Sturgess(Countdown to Mystery writer.) we talked for about 45 minutes. They had really good things to say and gave me some pointers.(ie perspective). A week later I got a chance to meet Mark Brooks. He too had good things to say, but also takled about the importance of perspective and..dun dun dun....backgrounds. the dreaded Background.

So its been 4-5 weeks since i met these guys. And have come up with 9 new pages and 2 covers, that i think are pretty decent maybe even good. So we will see what happens. If nothing else, like i said, i get some good feedback so i can keep working. So if anyone reads this, wish me luck and i will post a new journal on Monday telling myself and you all about it.

So its Thursday November 15th, and the day is almost half over. Luckily i finished everything i needed to complete yesterday afternoon. I have completed 9 sequential pages and 2 covers. I copied all the work and turned into an ashcan with my contact info to hand out to the editors and publishers that i come in contact with. And let me tell you. That took for ever. i had to copy everything down. then put two copies on one page. the figure out the order and page placement show it would read like a comic book. After that i feel like I can accomplish anything. Anyway. so there are only 2 days left. i am going to do some touch on my stuff, and then just stress and be nervous until the day is over.

Ok, well today is Tuesday and I have four days left until Wizard World Texas. I guess its only 3 days, because I have already done the drawing that i can do for today. I have finished and retouched the 9 pages worth of sequential art that I am showing. Now if I can just get the covers done that I have laid out, then I will be very happy. Then I have to get my ashcan ready to go. Man I have alot to do in 3 days. Nervous much?

So I have been working on some submission pages for about 2 months. Many have been trashed and restarted after getting some critiques from a couple pros. They have had some good things to say about my work, so i am pushing forward. This Saturday is going to be one big day. I am going to Wizard World Texas to show my work to some editors and publishers. So we will see what happens. Not much left to do and less time. Fingers Crossed!!
