Comics I bought in England and online...

this post is to show the books I baught in England and one online purchase.
Yes IM LAZY!! So I took a picture instead of writing em all out... If any of you want more details, just ask and Ill answer

The Wolverine book and the Spidey book are particularly stunning. Both completely different styles, one more painterly and the other clean and almost cartoony, but both so beautiful!! The Wolverine book is about his rivalry with Sabertooth... very very violent, very very cool!

*Kick-Ass* is a hilariously written story about a kid who has no powers who gears up as a super hero and tries to fight crime with a not so great result. The artwork is good too. Great book.

The *StreetFighter* books are AWESOME!! AMAZING drawings and great story, well duh. I know, I know... I have Vol. 1 and 3... Thats cause Im an idiot and when i went back to the store to get another, I was sure I had vol 2 cause they didnt have vol 1... WRONG! anywho, Ill get vol 2 and vol 4 soon enough.

*Strange cases* is a book illustrated by David Hartman (awesome monster specialist [link])His art is what attracted me to the book but Its a really cool story too. I could only find volume 3 though... gotta get my hands on the first two volumes...

The online purchase is *SUPERWORLD* written by Jeff Aden, drawn by Ben Glendenning [link] (who did kick ass work on MM07 with waterproof crayola markers for crying out loud!!)and cloured by Garry Henderson. I only really know Ben of the three, but he's an awesome dude and the book looked great so I baught it. and WOW, the artwork is great all way through!! NO bad parts in the artwork, NONE!! The colours are beautiful and really enhance Bens cartoon/comic style. I havent read it yet though... but Im sure its good.

Heres where you can get it if ya wanna have a look and support great comic creators

[link]

Maybe Im not so lazy after all HAHA! Hell, i think I'll post this on other forums too! Why not spread the word all round!

I dont know why when I post a pic it underlines a bunch of text under it and counts it all as one link to the image. Does anybody know why this happens? What am I doing wrong?

I just finished posting my very first ebay listings! Rather exciting it is.

I'm selling these cards to finance the things I need for my upcoming appearance at the Mtl Comicon on December 9th. I would like to offer my fans a sketchbook of my work and also a few prints of my more popular pieces. With your help, I'll be able to make that happen.

I really hope I manage to sell these cards, but don’t you go all charity on me now! Only bid on them if you actually like them, ok! They’ll be up for five days.

Dudes! You know how I met a bunch of hot shot important people in the art industry at the ADAPT conference, at the VIP supper that all the speakers attended. I spoke to many different people but I really hit it off with the editor and one of the writers on CGSociety:

"The CGSociety is the most respected and accessible global organization for creative digital artists. The CGS supports artists at every level by offering a range of services to connect, inform, educate and promote, by celebrating achievement, excellence and innovation in all aspects of digital art."-CGSociety.org

I apparently made a good impression because I was recently asked if I had any pieces that I could contribute to this "women in the field" article. Because of rights and restrictions, they werent able to use my princess Leia being pulled at the neck by a chain... so they went with Enchantress instead.

Its only a two page article, so go check it out and tell me what you think of it. Its getting A LOT of crap thrown at it on the CGtalk forum, because A LOT of people totally missed the point of the article... "to ask why are there so few women in the CG industry?" Not to cry about being treated baddly or differently. Well, most (of the posters on the forum) took it as an angry feminist putting down men and women with broad generalisations, instead of seeing that its giving information as to why women MIGHT not be getting into the field...

I would really like to know what you think about the article. However, if you haven't got anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. There's a big difference between saying that you dont agree with it whilst explaining your point of view, and simply destroying the text with disrespectful statements.

My presentation was over but the stress was far from done. That night I was asked to attend a cocktail party to celebrate the speakers and blaaaaa. I didn’t want to go, cause Im not much of a cocktail person, but it was actually written MANDATORY on the schedule so I didn’t have much choice. Not that they would have set the cops on my ass for not showing up… but I would like to be invited again next year, so best make a good impression. The evening was not only supposed to be for partying but also for autograph signing. I wasn’t told if Id be signing anything or not, but my boyfriend convinced me that it would be a good idea to get some sort of autographable material ready for the evening. He had the BRILLIANT idea of putting some images together to fit standard photo size, so that we could simply upload them to the Walmart photolab and pick them up in just an hour! Not only was it fast, but it made such lovely promo sheets! Yeah, sure, theres Kodak written on the back, but at 19 cents a print, I wasn’t complaining!
Ok, so we rushed like crazy to get these prints done and then my boyfriend rushed me to the hotel for a quickie… HA! Just kidding, he rushed me to the hotel to make sure I wasnt late. He couldn’t stay cause he had to work. This meant I had to be sociable with strangers all evening...nonononono, not my thing. The music was excessively loud, the food was weird (blue and red nachos???) and the only people I knew were a couple teachers I had back in cégep and some of the ADAPT reps. I was bored out my mind… Then, a dude that had attended my presentation, came up to me and wanted to thank me again for giving such a nice presentation and for opening his eyes to certain aspects of the business and so on. He was really sweet and obviously highly motivated to get where he wants to be. When I finished talking with him, I felt like my knees were going to cave in so I hurried inside to the only two sofas in range. AHHHHH my butt on a nice comfy sofa…. Yes…. So I whipped out my sketchbook and began to sketch Batman. I had decided to finish my sketch and then leave… but a chick who had also attended my presentation came up to me and went on to explain which aspects of my talk had reached her and how. It was really nice to feel appreciated and to know that I actually helped a couple people. I strive to be like all the awesome artists who have never hesitated to give me advice or council. Bla bla bla… then I went home…. Was nice to talk to those two people, but overall the evening was horrible for me. Oh, I did order a drink at the bar at the same time as Phil Tippet though! I didn’t say hi…. Cause im lame… I was much too intimidated to talk to him… silly meÂ

Wednesday, I went to the Transformers presentation given by an awesome guy by the name of Todd Vaziri [link] . He was great and it was incredible to see how the film was made. That day I also attended David Krentz’ presentation [link] . His wasn’t as dynamic as Todds but his artwork and experience blew my mind!!! Then…. Then I had to prepare for the VIP supper that evening… The VIP supper that all the speakers were attending and that my bf couldn’t attend because I was too low in the speaker hierarchy … So I had to go ALONE!!! Can you imagine the stress of being surrounded by a huge number of big shots and having to mingle???

So I showed up at the designated time and place… nervous as hell… David Krentz was waiting with his beautiful wife and four other people, unknown to me at the time, were also there. We were told to go downstairs… that the LIMO would drive us to the restaurant! When I arrived at street level I had to restrain myself from screaming, because 5,6, no 8 stretch S.U.V. limos were parked at the hotel!!! WHAT?!! So I hopped in and sat quietly. Then the dude next to me spoke to me and was very kind. But that still didn’t calm my nervs. When we got to the restaurant, we were told to enjoy the terrace and that dinner would be served at 8. I walked through the very fancy restaurant and out onto the terrace…the terrace enclosed by sofas and four poster beds with flowing white sheets. I say again…WHAT??!! So I sat down… alone… feeling OH SO AWKWARD…. What do I do?? What do I freakin do!!! Then the next batch of people came out and among them was Todd Vaziri. Id been at his presentation, I could use that to get into a conversation..yes yes… that should wo...

Looks like a lot... but quite a fast read...

Let me break it down for you... Monday evening was Phil Tippets presentation. To be honest, I had no clue who he was until said presentation. But now that i do know who he is, man do I respect and admire him!! If you dont know who he is, I strongly suggest you google him.

Tuesday morning was my presentation. 9 am... in the morning... before mid day... before 10am... I was exhausted! I didnt even think Id make it out of bed to be there on time! But I made it, and I was surprisingly less stressed then I expected Id be. I think it was sheer fatigue that kept me relatively calm... I waited my turn to set up my laptop and then around 9:10am, people started coming into the hall... the main hall was devided into three rooms and the Exxploration room was the smallest (duh). About 30 or 40 people showed up, which was cool, cause it was more then 5 but less then 60, so that also helped my nervs.

So, with a big screen to my left, an ear microphone on my head and a spot light in my eyes, I started to talk about who I be. Of course, no one knew who the hell I was, but that was to be expected and was able to make a quick joke about that to lighten the mood. I showed my movie, my artwork, my stuff... all the while interupting my art descriptions with tips and advice or warnings about the industry. I got quite a few laughs when showing my Marvel cards cause I had fun commenting about what Id drawn and why and so on. Thank god my ma and pa gave me the gift of some sort of wit. A really fun moment was when I asked the audience if anyone knew Doop. Only one guy raised his hand, with a big smile on his face. I then described him to the rest of the audience, talking about his language and DoopLand, which also got a few laughs, cause I mean c'mon, Doop is awesome!!

Once Id shown off my work, I then asked for the camera guy to come behind me to shoot me drawing a sketch card live and in full colour. It was extremely stressfull cause Im not a spontanious kind of sketcher... I need time to make my stuff look good.. but anyhow... I had decided to draw the Hulk. I had also decided that I wanted to ask the audience to fill in the blanks. So when I asked them what situation to put the Hulk in, the Doop fan suggested I draw him trying to kiss someone! INTERESTING I said. I then asked who he should be kissing at which point I heard someone say "how bout a character from DC?" hmmmm i said, D...C.... how bout... and then at the same time, I and some other person in the room said Catwoman! So the scene was set. The Hulk would be attempting to kiss Catwoman.

Wow was I struggling!! A full colour sketch card in like 10 minutes?? What was I thinking!? I aint NAR for darn sake! Whilst I drew, I nervously brought up random questions that just popped into my head, such as "Has Betty ever hooked up with the Hulk as the Hulk?" stupid stuff like that, which again got a few laughs and relaxed my nervous hand a bit. I finished the drawing, answered some questions and thanked everybody for coming....

To my surprise, after my presentation, a couple people came up to me to tell me how much they related with what I was saying and that they really liked my work. One guy even gave me his portfolio on DVD, which I thought was really cool. Two people also asked me about concept art for projects theyre working on.. so yeah, fun stuff....

I was then escorted to the VIP room (majorly awkward)

On that day I also met the marvelous person who had plugged my art!! His name is Didier Kaade! I didnt even know the guy! He just saw my stuff on Facebook and that was that! They wanted someone local and they also wanted more chicks to participate in the event... so voilà !

So that was evening one and day two... I shall write about evening two and day/evening three later today... SO much to tell you about!!

To be continued...

(Thanks for your awesome comments! will update soon!!)
