For those of you who don't already know, I'm attending the Washington Media and Journalism Conference at George Mason University this summer in Washington, D.C. To help participants meet each other before the conference, it has a facebook page.

anywho... we started talking and got to know each other fairly well (we both recognize that you can't know someone completely only talking online.) and he read on my page that i "sort of" like someone (HIM) the following conversation ensued via facebook chat last night [[H: Him. S: Me]]

H: same, haven't met this particular person yet so can't be sure

what i hate the most is that i can't do anything or talk to them about it. i cried myself to sleep last night and when i finally fell asleep around 3 i still couldn't sleep well because of the nightmares. i was watching tv when my dad came home for lunch today and he asked what was wrong. when i told him that i didn't sleep well he asked if anything was the matter and i said no. he knows that if i don't say what's wrong the first time he asks me, then i won't say if he brings it up again, but he does know that something's up. which means that i can't even hide my emotions and put on a brave face like i usually can when something's bothering me, and that scares me more then i can say.
i'm usually the referee in my house, even more so right now, and i'm going to be on the opposite side of the country than my family for a week. i am so scared that when i come back, nothing will be the same. That the damage will be done.

i feel like i'm watching a horrible train crash from 10 feet away, but no matter how fast i run or how hard i try, i can't reach it or do anything to stop it.

so thursday my sat scores came in. got a 1970 (640 math, 650 critical reading, and 680 writing) which is good enough to get into all of the schools i like except harvard (which is actually one of my backup schools. Yeah, I'm that big of a dork)
friday... yeah. i'm going to have to start on the beginning for that one
y'all remember how i got dumped *counts* little less than a month ago? i got over about 5 minutes after i put up that journal when i realized that not only did i like 3 guys better than i liked him, but one of those guys likes me too. so i was going after this italian guy that me and a couple of friends all liked and i *thought* i was getting somewhere... until i sat next to him and he GOT UP and WALKED AWAY. ouch, burn. well, that stung for a whole 3 seconds. so i tell one of my friends (who is also the ex-girlfriend of the guy i'm about to tell you about) that i like this guy friday. within 3 hours he tells her that he's going to ask me out. she comes running up to me and my friend mary during lunch, grabs her, says "you stay here", and they go IN MY LINE OF VISION and scream and jump up and down (you know the way) they come back and i put 2 and 2 together and was able to guess what was going on. I then freaked about my hair for 10 minutes (yeah, i'm a girl. deal with it). anyway he apparently found out what class i had last hour, showed up there and then asked me out. (cue fergie's song clumsy: "a girl like me don't stay single for long")
today he called me. i feel i should note that i didn't give him my number so he must have gotten it from someone. since i didn't recognize his number, i didn't answer. he leaves a voice mail and asks me what i'm doing monday. please note that whenever i started dating someone in the past, it took us several weeks to schedule a date. also, i've never gone on 2 dates with the same guy. yes, i'm that lame.

so it's christmas, the celebration of the birth of the baby Jesus son of God, born from the Virgin Mary. I have heard that whole story over and over agin in the past month or so and tyou know what?
i don't buy it. It all just sounds like a fairy tale to me, like Cinderella and stuff like that. I am a Christian that doesn't believe in Christ and therefore not a Christian at all. (bad time for me to figure all this out, right?)
Furthermore, i dont know if i believe in God. I hope there is one, but i don't know if i actually believe in Him, let alone the Christian version of Him. He sort of annoys me anyway. I mean, what's up with all of that pintless violence? Both in the Bible and since. There are so many "holier than thou" people and there have been so many lives lost over what seems to me like pointless matters that the spirit just isn't there anymore.
I know that christmas is the celebration of Jesus's birth and since i don't believe in Him I shouldn't celebrate it. But I'm still going to. Why? because i still believe in the spirit of christmas and the love that comes with the holiday. So I celebrate the spirit of the season, but not Jesus's birth.
Now, wish me luck explaining all of this to my very devout catholic/protestant family.

Yes, for the same reason that I think marijuana should be legalized.

I don’t like war, but I really don’t know enough about it to make a good statement here.

I have very mixed feelings about suicide, since I have in the past and still today suffer from depression and suicidal thoughts. I know that killing yourself is probably not the best choice and it also hurts others that know you, but sometimes you just feel trapped, like there’s nothing else you can do.

There’s a fine line between spanking and abusing. If you have tried other methods and none works, then spanking should be used. But if you start beating your child senseless at the most minor of offenses, you’ve gone too far.

Yes, but I’d make sure that I dropped it on the ground first. (For those of you that don’t get this reference, there’s a law- very rarely enforced- that when an American flag falls to the ground you’re supposed to burn it).

I’m more partial to McCain, but I honestly don’t care. Personally, I think that our country is pretty much screwed either way.
