The Office of Film and Literature Classification of Australia (OFLC) has today banned the sale and import of Left 4 Dead 2, one of the most anticipated games of the year and a huge pre-order game around the country.
Apparently they've Banned it for "Excessive violence and horrific acts against living humans, especially with melee weapons, which result in copious amounts of blood and gore, dismemberment and decapitation." Have they seen any of the gore flicks released in the last few years? What the fuck??
As I said before, this has gone too far. The OFLC seems to be so out of touch that they think they can just make up our minds for us and we'll just agree. This is not the case. Even though I agree that it should not be released under an MA15+ rating, since it is incredibly visceral, with tons of blood spraying everywhere and cutting people up and stuff, yet the OFLC is completely opposed to simply creating a R18+ rating for video games, they seem content to assume that nobody over the age of eighteen even looks at video games, which is absolutely not the case.

Why won't they just make an R18+ rating?
One of their arguments is that children shouldn't be allowed to view such explicitly violent content. I have to say that I completely agree with this statement, but they also seem to assume that every single parent in our wide brown land is an incredibly negligent person who just lets their five-year-old play Dead Space or Mad World. Sure there is the occasional parent who needs a child-rearing class, but lets face it, most people who decide to have kids aren't fucking around, so they're be perfectly reasonable when it comes to their children's exposure of video games. Seriously, you wouldn't take your six-year-old to see SAW 5 would you?
When it comes down to it, the average age of gamers worldwide is 31. I think if we can hold down a steady job, own a car, house and pay taxes, we should be able to decide by OURSELVES if we want to view violent, sexual, drug involving or otherwise offensive content in the media that we pay for, be it movies, books, tv or video games, without some government watchdog looking over out shoulders telling us what to do, don't you think?


I have to say, I'm almost entirely certain that the entire board is made up of grumpy, uninteresting old men, who enjoy nothing more than taking candy from babies and knocking kids off their tricycles.

I'm so pissed off about it. As I've just said, my PS3 has broken down today and I'm pretty sure that nothing can be done about it. :\
I started it up as usual, I went into the PSStore to check out what was new and after about 5 seconds, it froze, then shut itself down. Now whenever I try to turn it on it stays on for no less than three seconds, then turns itself off with the red standby light flashing. plus the PS3 has my copy of GTA4 stuck in there, so I dunno how I'm gonna get that out.

I could send it off to Sony to get it fixed, but the chances are that it'd just break down again in the next few months, PLUS they actually charge you for fixing something that they fucked up in the first place.
I could trade it in with the warranty at Harvey Norman (the warranty has about two months left on it ) but I'd trade it in for a 40 gig with no backwards compatibility (I still love my PS2 games!! D, only two usb slots, none of my save data on my HDD AND I'd lose about $400 because my bro spent $1000 on it.
At the moment I think my best bet is to just get a full refund and just buy a completely new one plus some new controllers and stuff.

I'd say I got a solid 120 hours of gaming out of it, which, when you compare it to the at least 500 hours of gaming I got on my PS2, is pretty measly.

I think what I'm going to do now though is buy an external HDD, take the HDD and external HDD to a friend's house with a PS3, plug them both into their PS3 and chuck all of my Save data on the EXHDD.


Still, it's a pretty fudged up thing at the moment :\
If anyone has any ideas, or if they can shed any light on the situation, just comment on this journal, your input is much appreciated.

Hi everyone, just updating my journal, 'coz 'twas gettin' a little stale, if ya know what I mean

Well, where to begin? News I reckon.
first off, I love my school and my tablet. They're epically fun to use and to play with.

I don't really know what else to talk about, Wattle Festival is on this sunday, so anyone around the Nillumbik Shire area of Victoria should check it out right away, it'll be super fun with huge arse bratwurst hotdogs I eat 'em all ups.

At the moment I'm reading a book I got at a $2 shop called 'Soon I will be Invincible'. It's not a very good book, but it's all about superheroes, and I really love to look into each person's own iteration of the superhero genre. It's interesting for the backstory and lore, if nothing else

Another thing, Brutal Legend is coming out 'Rock'tober 15th. It's so far away. I wantz Tim Schafer goodness now

Anywho, All's good and well in the realm of Rohan, and my Reign of terro. . . err delightfullness continues ^^

I also gave him about 300 bucks so he could buy me a new HD 'coz I have to have more space

THIS has got to be the greatest export out of Japan in the last few years.

It looks awesome, and on top of the cutesy wickedness is it's name; Cat Shit One.

It's being released as Apocalypse Meow in the US, since the US version of the original comics was called that.
I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have to buy it. XD

I was reading about it on another site, and it's really cool reading all about the little things, such as the Americans being portrayed as rabbits, which is actually a parody of the japanese word for rabbit, usagi (USA G.I).
It was also called Apocalypse Meow in the US to appeal to audiences, since the original comics were set in Vietnam, like the film that the name parodies.

It looks to be a rocking good time XD

It was 300 bucks. it's a Wacom Bamboo 6x9" personal tablet, which came with a pen, stand, mouse and photoshop! ^^

Yeah, it came with FREAKIN' PHOTOSHOP! how awesome is that!?

So, as a learning curve will be involved, you'll be seeing a lot more art up on DA from me in the coming months!

well, okay, so I can use spaces, but I'm still really pissed off.

Long story short. I was reading on wikipedia and I found a pure blasphemy on the Cowboy Bebop page. They're making a live action movie of it. Okay, now I'm not really that phased by that, but what I am phased about is that they've gotten none other than the wooden retard himself, Keanu Reeves to play Spike Spiegal.

Now, I'm not to bummed about having a live action Cowboy Bebop movie out in 2011, it'll have at least some good action and hopefully a script written by Schinichiro Watanabe, plus we get to see Spikes Swordfish in all it's spaceshippy goodness, but the fact that they've chosen Keanu fucking Reeves to play the most crucial roll in the entire anime is unspeakable. The man couldn't convey terror if he was being chased by a fucking boulder indiana jones style!

Well, I'm tired of complaing about things I have no control over, now it's off to Akido with me! ^^ (yes I started Akido, it's the shizz)

Okay, picture this. you get a definitive physics engine, something like Euphoria mixed with the Havok physics engine, for the majority of the world, physics enabled clutter and stuff, people, enemies etc.

Then you have a basic character model, something for people to skin and animate in any way they see fit, not to mention that the model is rescalable for the devs so you can be as big as a tank like the hulk if you choose his skin. you want Batman? done. you want Indiana Jones? easy as pie. you want some random werewolf chick? sure! But anyway my point is that you have a base avatar that game developers can animate and pose in their owns ways.

Then you have a way to add any animations and character voices you want to the character. you could make him breath fire, Roll everywhere like a soccer ball or shoot lazers out of his toes for all you want. and devs could even change the character's vulnerability to such things as flames or bullets or other things along with their total health.

You have your own team of Devs to make a world. whatever you want. graveyard, bustling city, desert, forest realm, whatever is needed for the game. plus weapons and the like. Vehicles too.
populate the world with enemies, characters, whatever you need to populate the world.

so anyway, once you get over all this, the point of all I'm saying is this. What if everything I just said was modular? I mean in a huge scale. it would have an easy-to-use interface for the consumer and you could do anything. example: put in Zombies, and human weapons and stuff, in liberty city, with a hover tank and a crazy werewolf guy? you'd get one hell of a customizable experience.

you could do anything. Mix and Match anything you wanted. ever wanted to go on a super-powered rampage ala InFamous within an alien space-station? easily done, just choose your character powers/animations and put it on, say, a Batman skin and start tearing it up above a planet, blasting lightning at alien buggers. or perhaps you wanted to go hulk on some of those little bugger aliens from crysis? easy, just load up say, the Hulk's skin and Powers from the selection screen, then choose a tropical island and add in those Aliens. wanna mix it up? maybe chuck some zombies to squish under your hulky feet. or even just make a completely realistic world with no paranormal stuff, and when you get bored just chuck in some werewolves Seriously, I want anyone who reads this journal to just sit back and think for a moment about what you could do.

It's pretty easy to see why I'd love some big games company to pick this up and treat it with such care that the potential of this idea was fully realised. the best part is that developer studios could just release patches later on or even release totally new playgrounds and other pieces via PSN and Xbox live.

Now I know a lot of what is there has a LOT of fundamental flaws, like keeping up-to-date with new things and stuff. but I think that theorhetically it should all just click together like puzzle pieces. all you have to do with weapons for example, is to make a bunch of weapon types like ballistic, plasma, force, laser and stuff, so the devs making the characters could just set values for each weapon type to do that amount of damage against you or enemies.

well, either way, I'd love to see this idea visualised on some way in the future.

I'd love to have people comment with their opinions with suggestions, just take into account that I'm no developer, so someone else'd have to work out all the technical stuff and tiny details lol.

where to start?
well, I've been changing a lot over the last few months, here's a short list of developments;

: I've got a new girlfriend. Jess is awesomeness :3
: I'm currently going through the process of getting a new computer! yay! I'm going to get a top of the line gaming PC, with which to play games on and such. I've still got my Mac, and I'll still use it for the majority of things like the internet and stuff, but now I'm gonna have a games computer. I'll probably get GTA4, Crysis (off my cousin who has it) and CoD4 to start off. if anyone has any good games they think I should buy, comment on this journal. :3
: I'm going to go into a VCAL course this year, and once I finish it, I'll be able to go into a TAFE course that'll help me towards my goal of being a concept artist someday.
: I'm also going to get a graphics tablet!!! WHOOOO!!!!! I can't wait! I'm going to get a Wacom tablet, probably the cheapest 8"x6" I can find, or a 9"x7" if I can.

I'm very happy about the stuff that's been happening for me lately, as anyone would be, but I've got a feeling things are looking up this year.

I bought Far Cry 2 the other week, it's awesome!!! XD I would suggest to anyone who thinks they would enjoy a surprisingly strategic open world first person shooter, go for Far Cry 2. easily one of the most non-linear game's I've ever played, there's not a thing I can think of that feels unfinished within this game world. It's set in an unnamed African country enveloped in civil conflict you're a mercenary with malaria who has to kill an notorious gun runner called 'The Jackal'. a flaccid plot is easily overlooked when everything else is as polished as this.

I mean, okay, he uses "ninja magic" and stuff, but that's IT. hell, his whole outfit in the first place betrays the entire point of a freakin' ninja! They're supposed to be fuckin' discrete! not jumping around in an orange jacket and parachute pants with an annoying pre-pubescent crackly voice shouting how good they are. Case in point: Rikimaru Vs. Naruto: Rikimaru wins. why? because he's a fucking ninja. a stealth assassin of myth and legend. Naruto Vs. Altiar: Altiar wins. why? because Altiar is more of a ninja than Naruto. Naruto Vs. Mario: Mario wins. why? because EVEN FUCKING Mario is more of a ninja than Naruto. Listen, every one of these guys would have come up behind Naruto and slit his throat/stabbed with hidden blade/shot with fire flower by the time he had cast his first spell. oh yeah, also there's no such thing as magic. I haven't really posted a proper journal in, say a few months? so I'll write one now, since there's a lot of stuff that's news in my crappy little world

School's nearly finished!!!!!!!!! well, for the term at least, but it's still good. ^^

Also, I'm getting a new internet connection in the next week or so, so I won't be online for at least a couple of days, I'll try to notify you guys just before I lose the internet and stuff too.

thirdly, I bought Spore on the weekend, and I have to say one thing. . . AWESOME!!!! D
It's so fuckin' fun!! :3 not to mention huge! ^^ It is truly one of he most mind bogglingly enormous games I've ever seen. ever. Seriously, the scope of the GALAXY you are thrown into is, unless you see it firsthand, unbelievable. not to mention how, once you enter the space stage, you start to build an galactic empire! It's great! ^^
The creature creators and stuff are amazing as well, and you get to, aside from make creatures, make every other aspect of your civilization. from your city hall and your trading vehicles, to every mining colony you create and entire planets. even down to the clothing that your race wears. It truly is an epic achievement.

number four, Since school's out this week, I'm going to see WALL-E when it comes out in cinemas this week, after school. :3 so, that'll be awesome

I'm writing this about a friend.

A good friend of mine left for England today.
She was a very very good friend to me, and I wish I could repay her for that.
I only found out that she was leaving yesterday on the train ride home, where I signed her going away shirt. I couldn't write what I would really felt on the shirt because I felt like I would break out in tears. Quietly I wrote a note to her and slipped it in her bag without her knowing before I left.

What hits me hardest about this is that I will never see her again. I'm leaving school next year to join the army, who will pay for my course in artistic design. She was so good to me and I was so bad to her. I was a horrible friend to her and I wish I could revoke my bad actions before she left.

Emma, if you read this. I love you so much and you made my life that little bit brighter, I don't know what I'll do without you.

I am begging you to read this, there is an online stalker (!jere1234, !Caeruleum, !kyakuchuu -- all the same person) who recently attacked a dear friend of mine,*Kays-elle-belle . DA has resolved the situation, but this situation is something people need to be cautious and aware of. He has been blocked but theres always a chance that he'll make another account. Im going to post what's in her journal and if you notice any patterns of similarity, please contact DA IMMEDIATELY. This guy has gone thorough great lengths to contact my friend such as making new accounts and pretending to be other people who he's not. If you would, PLEASE copy this entire message and let other DA members know about this threat. the more people know, the better chance users have of not becoming a victim. So please,read, copy and post this again so this information can spread and no one else gets hurt. There is safty in numbers and this sort of thing needs to be stopped!

"I am begging you to read this, it will explain the last journal and also warn so this won't happen to YOU.

!jere1234 IS !Caeruleum IS !kyakuchuu.

This man is most likely a serial killer or sexual predator of some sort. Deviant art staff is handling this for me right now. The man originally added me as Jere1234 and then he notified me that he would be switching to Caeruleum. He asked that I add him. Thinking he was just some nice man who liked my artwork I said "Sure, why not?" On this account he began writing some poems about and TO my girlfriend Kayla, and I. I began to find this odd but being an overly naive and trusting person I was polite about it, commented the poems, thanked him, so on. He wrote a poem about a lifestyle choice that I thought he spent alot of time critisizing for being different than his own and I believe I posted a comment as simple as "Gosh, what have you got against that, anyhow?" The man literally flipped out. He not only wrote two journal entries condemning me and calling me things between immature and evil, but he also sent me notes telling me how "disappointed" he was with me. A man that I don't know in real life, have only talked to online for a few days, is "disappointed with me." He blocked me, and I blocked him back.

Not long after I began to get several favorites and then a watch from the account !kyakuchuu. I noticed the similar style of poetry and similar interests but I hate people who make assumptions and I'd rather not be one of them, so I just figured it was another poet with similar interests. "Kyakuchuu" soon after began calling Kayla and I "muses" and writing poems about us as well. 2KL he called them-- and informed me that this meant "To Kayla and Ellie" There is a numerous list of them in his gallery. He favorited absolutely every work of mine with Kayla in it along side of me and also any of my pictures that showed my feet. (foot fetishist, obsessive personality: bad sign) He wrote me notes telling of his extensive admiration for Kayla and I, his plans for other poems about us, thanking me for being his "inspiration". All of this seemed very creepy, but I was always thinking, what if this is really just some eccentric old man minding his own business, and he just hasn't got anything better to do. I would hate to just hurt some innocent old man by lashing out at him for no reason. HOWEVER upon talking to Kayla about this, she has taken criminal justice classes. She said that many of these traits sounded like BAD traits and BAD signs. She told me about a type of serial killer called "collecters" Who will collect information, pictures, anything about their subjects, and obsess over them, for a long time before they make any move. Just writing this to update my journal and stuff. so I've got some things to talk about

of course the first thing is V.6, which was, obviously, put into full time work today. I think it's great personally, and after I got a hold of how to use my new inbox (more or less the only thing I noticed that has really changed) I was flying through journals and deviations like there was no tomorrow. ^^

Secondly, I got a haircut. it's shorter again and I like it, even if it does make me look like a loser. I got it cut real short and I'll post a new pic when I can be bothered.

I also watched The Darjeeling Limited. A movie by Wes Anderson. It's agreat, great movie. all I can say, because I want everyone who loves movies seriously to see it, is that it's a quirky adventure, and if you liked The Royal Tenenbaums or The Life Aquatic, you'll adore this movie.

fourthly, I'm back to school already next monday! D: Oh noes!!
That sucks.

Fifthly I just ant to say, for no reason whatsoever, Hi to my girlfriend, . so, yeah. Hi!!

I'm so not going skiing. partly because there's barely any snow up there and partly because I hate any physical exertion beyond twiddling my thumbs on a PS3 controller. But that won't stop me from putting snow down 's brother's pants, so don't fret.

Anyways. I though I must write this to say; NEVER DRIVE TO THE AIRPORT!!!!! DX

I had to drive in at about 12.30 am last night to pick up my uncle, who's just gotten back from Thailand. Anyways, it was midnight, so the roads were pretty much dead anyways. It was all round a pretty good trip. AND I wiped three hours off of my obligatory time needed for a learner driver, so That's a plus too.

It was a pretty fun trip home too, 'coz we went and got Macdonalds too. Drive throughs are pretty much the easiest thing in the world.

In other news, School work is gay, and piling up again. I've gotta do a report in Oral English, I've gotta finish my folio in Visual Creative Design and I've gotta finish reading a book in English. Animal Farm. I hate Animal Farm! >< I've read it like, five times! And I hate reading a book more than once. Damn you English!!

Other than that, I've just been sitting here, waiting for 'my girl' to get online so we can see each other.

Not much else now.

So, I've been kind bummed out the last few days, for various reasons, but mostly because of stuff I'm got explaining here, partly out of confidentiality, partly out of laziness.

What's a call card you say?
You're an idiot I say.
A call card is a kind of credit receipt (why they call it a card is beyond me) that lets you call anyone in the world for about 5 bucks an hour. I've got 10 dollars credit, so I've got two hours approx.

(kinda pointless really)


I've decided, this week, to grow a beard this month!! XD

That mean's I'm not shaving this month. I want to see how good of a beard I can grow in one month. Coincidentally, I shaved on the 1st of this month, What luck!.
I've taken a photo of myself fully clean shaven, so I'll submit it this week some time.

So now, I extend this challenge to anyone who's willing to waste a month growing facial hair, Grow a beard this month, and then at the end of the month take a photo, shave it off and take a clean-shaven photo! XD
Anyone willing and ready to start this, tell me and I'll add you to a list of beard-growers for this month.
Good luck trying to beat a 16 year old kid growing a beard!

This is gonna be fun! XP
