Southwest Leather Conference is pleased to announce that the Southwest Leather Art Exhibition will return for a fourth installment in January 2010. The annual event showcases expressions of heart and spirit created by the artists in our leather tribe.

Seeking Artists and Artwork

The 2010 Southwest Leather Art Exhibition is currently seeking artists and artwork. We will accept submission from any artist in the leather/bdsm community, whether they reside in the Southwest region or not. We encourage artists to submit works that they feel called to exhibit. While leather & kink subjects are welcomed, we do not limit content to those areas. SWLAE seeks to share expressions of the heart and spirit of our leather tribe in its many forms.

Artwork may be submitted starting September 1, 2009. All submissions must be received by December 15, 2009. A panel or judges will review submitted artwork and selected pieces will be displayed as part of the Southwest Leather Conference in Phoenix. In addition, there will be a “eople’s Choice” award voted on by attendees during the event.

Questions about submissions or guidelines or requests for an application can be sent to leatherartists@yahoo.com.

Submission Guidelines
- All artists must be 21 years old or older as of the first day of the conference weekend.

- All pieces submitted must be the original work of the artist or artists.
- Each artist may submit up to three pieces to the exhibit.
- Each piece must be submitted separately and be accompanied by a complete application form and application fee.
- All artists selected will be notified by December 31st, 2009, and will be required to sign a release form prior to the Exhibition.
- Artists are responsible for all costs involved in making pieces display-ready, including framing or mounting, shipping & handling, and other expenses.
- Art may be displayed under a professional or scene name, but applications must be under the artist's legal name.

How to Submit Art

- Artwork must be sent electronically only.
- Images should be in jpg, gif, or bmp format and compressed (if possible) to facilitate opening the image upon email receipt.
- Images should not have any watermarks or marks identifying the artist.
- 2-dimensional pieces may be submitted with up to two (2) images per submission.
- 3-dimensional pieces may be submitted with up to three (3) images per submission
- An application form is mandatory and must accompany each piece submitted.
- To defray costs incurred for the exhibition, there is a nominal fee of $10.00 per application.

- Artist does not have to register for or attend SWLC in order to submit artwork for exhibition.

Electronic submissions must be received by December 15th, 2009, at 11:59 PM Arizona time to be considered by the judging panel. Please note that we will not accept artwork for judging that is submitted in formats other than jpg, gif, or bmp or that is time-stamped after 11:59 PM on December 15th. All artists will be notified by December 31st, 2009, whether or not their art has been accepted for the exhibition.

If Your Art is Selected for Exhibition
All artists must sign a release form before their art is displayed. Artists must ensure arrival of all selected pieces to the SWLC host hotel by 9pm on the Thursday before the conference begins. All exhibits will be set up by SWLC staff and should be on display throughout the Southwest Leather Conference.
Artists must retrieve their art pieces at the closing of the SWLAE on Sunday night at the end of the conference weekend.

I am going begin adding images here to this journal that I have collaborated on or worked with other artists, no matter the capacity. I don't always photograph people, in fact sometimes I am told I have several hats to wear, and I am often most comfortable working a set, acting as an assistant, decorating a set or styling a model with wardrobe. I also enjoy doing acting as make up artist, or acting as hostess or art director. Sometimes I simply provide props or share my equipment.

I CANNOT take credit for these images, but I can say I have had something to do with their creation, in some small way, and I am proud of the creators and happy I was allowed a small part in the creation of the piece. Contest:
We will choose one image from the total images submitted to promote the next event. The winner will recieve free admission to the next Shoot event and credit for the image.

Basic Model and Photographer Info:
In order to ensure that you have an opportunity to get the maximum benefit from your shoot with us we plan to limit participation to 1 photographer per model. By doing this we hope to maintain a practical ratio between photographers and models in hopes that each photographer has an opportunity to network and photograph as many models as possible without being left out on the sidelines waiting for an opportunity to shoot. Photographers are encouraged to bring their own models and Models are welcomed to bring their own photographers to ensure this ratio.

Lighting:
If you feel you will need more lighting than the available ambient lighting, you are more than welcome to bring your own lighting.

Facility:
Dragon's Gate Studios
The facility provides several areas to shoot. This includes 2 semi private rooms as well as a variety of props, but you are also encouraged to bring your own backdrops and props.

Images:
an INCREDIBLE set of images to add to your personal, amateur or professional portfolio, or just to have to remember the event. Photographers must download their memory cards from the day's shoot to a central location where discs will be burned for each model. As a matter of courtesy, each photographer should provide the models with whom they work at least 5 finished images resulting from their shoot together.

Model Releases:
*Models & Photographers will sign an Event Participation Release available in the sign-in area.

Registration & Fees:
Participation requires a registration fee of $25 per photographer, $20 per model, or $40 for model/photographer team. This registration goes, to cover the costs associated with securing the location and organization of the event.

LOS ANGELES – Bettie Page, the 1950s secretary-turned-model whose controversial photographs in skimpy attire or none at all helped set the stage for the 1960s sexual revolution, died Thursday. She was 85.



Page was placed on life support last week after suffering a heart attack in Los Angeles and never regained consciousness, said her agent, Mark Roesler. He said he and Page's family agreed to remove life support. Before the heart attack, Page had been hospitalized for three weeks with pneumonia.



"She captured the imagination of a generation of men and women with her free spirit and unabashed sensuality," Roesler said. "She is the embodiment of beauty."



Page, who was also known as Betty, attracted national attention with magazine photographs of her sensuous figure in bikinis and see-through lingerie that were quickly tacked up on walls in military barracks, garages and elsewhere, where they remained for years.

I want to support those I respect and admire for quitting smoking, I want to support them because i fought the fight and continue to fight it every day. I know how difficult it cam be to quit.

Recently my parents and one of my brothers quit smoking, and A dear friend her on dA whom I consider an inspiration also took up the fight.

The Naked Desert Team is in the final stages of selecting the cast and participants for this exclusive opportunity to play a part in this one of a kind, large-scale art project. Invitations began June 1st and will continue throughout the month of July until the cast list is full.

Just what is "The Naked Desert"? The Naked Desert Photo Art Project is an over night event staged in the High Desert Area of Southern California. This year’s dates are August 2nd and 3rd. 2008 is our fifth year for this event. Participants of all shapes and sizes are invited to come share in the camaraderie that merely began as a simple photo art project. All Cast members are encouraged to disrobe for the purpose of being photographed in this celebration of the diversity of the human body. This event is the brainchild of Art Director and Photographer V “Carnyval” of Savage Arts, and will be photographed by photographer Some Southern California's most creative photographers.

Requirements: Full nudity is not required, but it is positively encouraged. We require that ALL models be over the age of 18 and sign a photographic release form for images. There is NO FEE to participate in this project but there is NO COMPENSATION, Either, so participants should do this for the love of art. So, I'm moving. Back to California I go. I'm learning how to hate it. I was none too enthused by Arizona, but now so much less by Cali.

I find that my life is in flux and I cna't take the time to focus on the things I really need to. I'm planning on going back to school. I'm even thinking bout going to work for something like Lifetouch Studios.

Making Art is hard work, and I'm up for something easy right now. I am also going to focus on shooting more weddings.

When I grow up I want to be a real art photographer and have a studio and a gallery and share my time with other artists. I know I can do it, I just think I need to take some time right now and focus on some really important stuff in my life.

I'm always so damned depressed and feeling lost and cannot really create what I have in my head to create.

I know I have talked about this a while back, so All I will say now is that I am finishing up projects that I already have going on, and I'm going to focus on developing more technical skill and building my business/studio equipment.

By no means does this mean I won't shoot with people who have excellent ideas and/or who just need something basic for their portfolios, but what it does mean is that I will be doing less of the planning. If someone wants to shoot with me, they will have to plan it and then call me and tell me when to show up.

By NO means is this goodbye, just me quieting down a bit. (yeah, like that will happen)

I'll be posting some random images in the next few months while I get myself settled and prepared to go to school in the fall.

I also got to rush the field after tha game and help clear the media as well as other people so the trophy could be presented.

I was in the news on channel 11 in California and I think Fox 13. couldn't tell it was me, but I know I'm there..haha.

Either way it was an experience, and the "Experience Whore" I am simply reveled in it.

After 18 hours on my feet, I was DEAD tired and am still recovering like I said.

That said, there's stuff going on in my life that I find it necessary to step away from Photography.

I fully plan to complete the assignments and obligations I have already begun, but am not entertaining any new projects at this time. With exception of paid work, I just don't have the energy to share.

Being a 'tortured artist' sure can suck.
So, until I get my head on straight, please forgive a lack of "new" work to my gallery at any regular basis.

I have watched her work ever since I joined deviantArt and within the past year I actually added her to my watch list, and look forward to her works and creativity.

I appreciate her talent as well as her view on art. We share some similar tastes and I feel as though at times she inspires me.

I have followed several artist's work in that 'genre', and have been moved by some of those works. One such work was from MissShyly which inspired this Deviation of my own, A Work in Progress [link]

I have also been inspired by people I know and respect and have worked with. Deviations such as Aglow [link] & Tough Girl [link] to me show the power that women of size have and help me to share my love of people regardless of shape, color, size, gender or other physical distinguishment.

It is no secret that I have made reparks on various deviant's pages in regards to rude remarks toward the particular 'shape' of the models used in their art. I am an advocate of health, and do not believe fat specifically is unhealthy. Being unhealthy is unhealthy. Art is Art. The two are separate. Art should be judged on it's value artistically. Weather it has a message or not is something entirely different as that would be the particular piece's 'message' through lack of a better 'term'

I don't know about anyone else here on dA, but I am here for the art. Not the politics, or health issues or any other 'issue' besides ART.

Simply said, it is what it is.

Please be kind in your comments, cause as my momma said, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." And I say. If you can't say anything nice, I'll just hide your comment and make note that you could play nice with the other kids. *grin*

I was beginning to get better from having a cold around New Year's, and then last night I could NOT sleep. I had 5 blankets on and could not stop shivering. I dozed a bit, but I woke up thinking that I was going to miss my photoshoot for today, and that just worried me more.

Ugh. I really hate being ill. I have been shivering on and off all day. I need to get well. I have so much to do and never seems to be enough time to do it.

I hope I get to feeling better soon. I want to get back to doing the things I normally do, like keeping up with mail and submissions.

I still plan to work in the Southern California area when I can, but will be opening my studio in Glendale About the Beginning of September.

I am excited and also a bit aprehensive about this venture. Send me your positive thoughts.

I miss California so very much as it has been my home all my life, I welcome the adventure though.

Don't worry, I will be heading up The Naked Desert 2008 to be held in Southern California, and am also working on another naked collaboration 'spin-off' of ND to be held sometime in the early spring or early fall of 2008

Just what is "The Naked Desert"? The Naked Desert Photo Art Project is an over night event staged in the High Desert Area of Southern California. This year’s dates are July 28th and 29th. 2007 is our fourth year for this event. Participants of all shapes and sizes are invited to come share in the camaraderie that merely began as a simple photo art project. All Cast members are encouraged to disrobe for the purpose of being photographed in this celebration of the diversity of the human body. This event is the brainchild of Art
Director and Photographer V “Carnyval” of Savage Arts, and will be photographed by photographer Jen Moore and photographer David Winge.

Requirements: Full nudity is not required, but it is positively encouraged. We require that ALL models be over the age of 18 and sign a photographic release form for images. There is NO FEE to participate in this project but there is NO COMPENSATION,
Either, so participants should do this for the love of art. If you are shy about being published, but you enjoy being naked, this still may be the event for you. Please do not let shyness be your only deciding factor in your decision to be a part of this event. Join the group e-mail list and get to know some of the previous participants.

Rules: Touching of others without consent is strictly forbidden at this event, and any ‘ublic’ sexual contact (even with consent) is also grounds for removal from the site. I finally own Athena, or rather, she owns me. She is a Canon EOS Rebel XTi) - with - 10.1 mp, Sigma 70-300mm DG Lens, Sigma 28-70mm DG Lens! I've been shooting with her since March 17th! Saint Patrick's day will never be the same to me. *heh*

Everyone has their own style. A lot of photographer's today have resorted to 'photoshopping' or post processing in some way the images that come out of their computers. I guess in a way I am a purest. I have absolutely nothing against post processing images, and on occasion I can get caught up for hours post processing one image, weather it be mine or not. When I got this camera, I decided I wanted it to be my first logical step from film, to digital to treat the digital format as I would film. Usually with film (unless you process your own) what you see is what you get. You take the pictures, you send them out to process, and what you took, ends up on the paper. So with that in mind, I sent my post processing software on a long vacation. No color adjustments, gamma filtering, blemish correction etc. I try to get all my pictures right where I want them in the lens before I take them! I do not post process images. What you see is what comes directly from the camera, no post processing, no cropping, the only thing I do with them is turn them all the right way up

So, there you have it.

Down the trails (not quite roads, but easy enough to get just about any car down). A nice clearing, a little bit 'rough', but workable, definitely a great area to set up a camp area and firepit.

Another nice clearing a bit higher on the hills, rolling grassy hills, scattered rocks, small valleys, all fit for some awesome camping and all together a phenominal photo backdrop. A beautiful view of the canyon, as well as a prime location for both sunset as
well as sunrise views.

We'll probably be off next to Johnson Valley and surrounding areas the area has to offer us for a new location. If you have any ideas on new desert locations for us to take a look at. Be sure to let us
know.

The Naked Desert 2004 took place at an undisclosed location in the High Desert of Southern California on July 24th-25th. More than 10 models over the age of 18 and of all shapes and sizes gathered together in the desert for this overnight/all-night event, to be photographed sans clothing for this one of a kind Photo Art Project.

On July 23rd of 2005, More than 14 models and 9 support staff gathered again in the remote Mojave Desert to "bare it all" for The Naked Desert 2005 celebrating the continuing diversity of the human body!

2006 brought 8 returning 'alumni' models as well as new models and support staff...back to the desert to expose the beauty of the human body and Natural Desert of Southern California!

There were only 12 artists showcased ofer the southwestern states, and only 21 pieces of art were shown.

My piece sold at auction, and I am very happy that I was able to meet the person who it was gifted to. I was happy to sign it for him. I intend to enter several pieces next time, and hopefully I will get some comissions after that.

It was an exciting trip, and I met tons of other artists and art appreciators. I look forward to entering again, and if anyone hears of an exhibit I can enter, let me know.

Funny I should notice it after all this time. I imagine it is nothing compared to come, but considering the fact that I don't post much regularly to my gallery, it's kind of nice.

I am lining up some 'gigs' with photographers and models in the area, so it's keeping me busy.

That, combined with waiting for the upcoming Naked Desert Project Cast Party and CD Release, and preparing for The Naked Desert 2007, as well as the impending relocation to Arizona in the late summer has really kept my mind busy.

I plan to be shooting many many new images as soon as I can in the New Year.

How it works:

We meet at 2:00pm on Saturday, July 22nd in the hi desert of southern California Victorville area.


At 3:45 pm we leave for the photo site. From the meeting point, we go to the super secret location and set up camp
by 5pm. We will be doing some sunset poses, so it is important that you are set up before sunset if you wish to be involved in this part of the shoot. At which point we get cool sunset pics followed by cool night pics, fire pics. A small rest break, then sunrise pics, tear- down, we may choose to meet somewhere for breakfast for those still awake enough to do it, and home again.

I am very excited about working with all of you this year. This is
going to be a great project.

Mood: disheartened

I am on the outside looking in. Left out of the circle, seeing everyting from a distance and wanting so badly to be a paart of the big picture.



They don't see you until you shout, and then they don't want to see you at all. That is who they are and what you fight desperately not to be.

Yet being your own person is a lonely place, it has been that way since the beginning of your time.



Misunderstood, misread, misquoted and eventually mislead to think you ever really mattered in their lives.

Cause when it comes down to it, you are expendable. The little things you did when the world needed it were forgotten as the weeds grew up around your deeds. Makes you realise that it never really mattered and you were not the one who was transparent, but they were substansially nothing.

I am bummered. I had a photoshoot scheduled for this past weekend, and the model was driving out from Manhattan Beach, Ca, and I had another model in from Monrovia, and neither of the photographers showed. We were going to go to the snow to shoot some real awesome images, and now the snow will probably melt before we cann arrange it again. *SIGH SIGH SIGH*

So bummed, bummed, The photogs were even going to shoot some images of *MOI*

Just so bummed, I am moving away, when will I have time again to do something like this again?

*Grrr* Just so bummed. Maybe Richard will shoot some stuff of me in a studio environment, maybe I should see.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, I am so bummed and the more I think of it the more bummered I get.

Enough of that.
