The game sale went over well, and I sold every single item I had up for auction. Christmas shopping has been keeping me busy lately, but I've doodled a little bit thanks to my new drawing table. There will be some new stuff to look at after Christmas, mostly because I'll finally be starting classes.

Would anyone be interested in seeing the more "traditional" stuff such as portraits / still lives / concept drawings or should I stick to uploading my anthro-y doodles to dA? For all those who haven't heard of it yet, Paint.Net is a free program that embodies the basic features of Photoshop (layers, editing filters, Levels, color correction) and doesn't follow the user-interface disaster that is Gimp. I've been using it a lot lately to color and resize images, scan things and sharpen / modify them, and it works like a charm! Especially the fast loading times and responsiveness make this one the most handy alternative to PS I've seen. If you want to try it out, you can find it here:

CHRISTMAS COLORS WOHOO.

If the result isn't a complete failure, I might continue to dabble in that for a while, since that would make for an awesome Christmas gift for many people I know. Mmm sewing.Will go bend some girders now to counter my loss of manliness.

In other channels, going to buy a drawing table today! I CAN BE REEL ARTISTZ NOW. It comes with a lamp and a chair for my fat butt, so I'll actually have a little space for drawing instead of just doing the anger sweep over the objects on a random surface to make room.

On a completely unlikely chance, has anyone preordered an MSI 8800GT from CompSource and is wondering where the hell the cards are? I sure am. GUYS. TF2 at more than 1024x768 please.

Basically, you draw your own pixel avatar (which is done quite easily with the stylus as you can zoom in to one-pixel level), and the game animates it for you. Then you go around and draw clouds and things for yourself to jump on. Right now I'm running around with Starf, jumping on happyfaced clouds, wiggling clawed green arms. This is the next best thing to making your own game.

And to counter that, I'll take a freestyle trade, one at a time. Mostly to get me out of my hole of notdrawing and to have a fun and interesting subject to work with. Freestyle in my strange dictionary involves no set background or style restriction / expectation, so if someone wants to go Dali or surrealist on me, go right ahead! Experimenting is fun, so feel free to do whatever comes to your silly mind.

If anyone's up for it and would like to give it a try, post below with a reference of your character (if possible, please refrain from doing the "IT'S SOMEWHAR IN MY GALLARY LOLOL" thing). Here's reference material for my handful of characters:

Been playing around with watercolors! I got myself a set from Crafts2000 that includes a few colors and brushes to get me started. I'll have to get my hands on a scanner to be able to upload anything, but right now finding a place to live / job to pay for it is my topmost priority. EVERYTHING WILL BE DECORATED WITH CACTI.

The new computer works like a charm; I decided to go with XP after all, since the x64 support is still very limited in most applications. It's hard to believe a system like that counts as mid-range nowadays since it's three times as fast as the one I bought 3 years back :'D mm technology. Most games run just fine now, and it' really neat to see all the titles that lagged before run smooth as butter now (granted I still have to turn down the resolution, but that's just fine with me).

Also, those 5-hour energy drinks they advertise on TV are amazing. I HARTS ME SOME OF THOSE. YAAAAAY AMERICA. YAAAY. YAAAAAgksdBUARRRGH

Won't be gaming a lot on it, so it'll provide nicely for everyday things.

Reducing journal clutter, moving back to having a decent color set without much addition. I trudged through too much CSS in the past 3 days to really be bothered here, and as long as it works, I'm happy.

Still preparing everything for the big move. Egh, such a hassle. It'll be worth it in the end, but the amount of miniature detail involved in the whole thing is daunting. Weather's been borken as well; woke up this morning to an approaching wall of rain and thunder directly overhead. Five minutes later, the sun was shining. Come on, out with it, who of you pissed Zeus off? :C

Also, I'm offering conbadges for use at the upcoming AC '07 or other conventions, so if you're interested, here's the details:

Seriously though, I think I just need a break from things and some different scenery. I have two more weeks on my current job, and after that, a handful of free time I will use to be productive for a change or go to Norway. Or both. Tales Of The Olden Days

For the past 4 days, something awesome always happened around this one peculiar time of day. It seems to be a close relative to Witching Hour, dedicated to making awesome things happen. Yesterday, it prompted a random get-together that resulted in watching one of the most amazing "movies" ever made (Cannibal! The Musical, of course). The day before, it fixed a presumably broken ceiling light. Today, at this very moment, it made STALKER run nicely on my computer.

I bring you the wonder that is Leet O' Clock.

If you happen to spot the timer on your digital chronometer showing the magical minute, throw your hands in the air and shout "IT'S LEET O' CLOCK", and a miracle is bound to ensue. If not, well, then chances are you're just not cool enough.

Art, or lack thereof

As some of you may have noticed I haven't uploaded since the 13th of March. This is mainly because I haven't been drawing a terrible lot lately, if not to say nothing at all. I still owe some trades and pictures to certain people, and yada yada those have not been forgotte etc. insert generic text here.

The point is, I have no idea what to do that'll get me motivated or inspired to draw more on my own. Looking at other people's work for inspiration doesn't seem to quite cut it, as I only notice the flaws and "things that really need work" in my own stuff, get overwhelmed by the amount of improvement it all needs and then decide to simply not start anything. Bad. The few things that I managed to actually *do* draw ended up looking like smudged carbon copys of other people's art, so I trashed those. Sometimes dA is a curse and a blessing all on it's own; it's a wonderful community place to meet and talk to people, and it's a fairly good platform for critique and inspiration, but it almost seems as if you spend too much time on it you lose sight of your own "style".

Maybe I should just stay off dA for a while, practise on drawing people, share it with the few people that actually give honest critique / improvement suggestions and start posting again when I'm good and ready to. I'll still finish and post the owed trades, of course, so no worry about that.

BioShock

BioShock Preview Video

From the above link, grab the "Big Daddy Hunt" video. It's ~ 60 MB but worth every last bit. What you're looking at is as close to a sequel to System Shock 2 that we'll ever get, and while it may not feature space ships or infested zombies, it has its own very amazing world and setting that actually promises something fun and not-halfassed. The architecture and atmosphere of the preview is amazing to say the least, a dark mix of Jules Verne meets steampunk meets Silent Hill. Hacking is back, and so is sneaking around corners and the scarce-ammo survival aspect that made SS2 so much fun. Telling from the video, these folks know what they're doing. And it makes me giddy.

(note: the preview site is tagged as 360, but I am quite sure it'll be available on the PC as standard platform).

Life Of A Soul

Well, there hasn't been much going on. Mostly working late shifts. I've been commissioned to design a website for some guy that runs a medical business, and that will fetch me around ~200, which is quite nice and helps save for plans I've been working on.

I ordered some Anatomy books off Amazon to help me improve with my general concept of the former, and that means I'll probably pester all of you with tons of peoplesketches that noone cares about. YAY! Also, spraypaint and non-frequented underpass = graffiti / stencil things. Should be fun. IF I DON'T GET ARRESTED THERE MIGHT BE AN UPDATE WITH THAT SOON C:

"After debating with your inner voice of reason, you decide to take the dusty path to the right, trying not to think about it twice.

It's been an hour now since you left the sign post behind you. You entered a dense forest a little while ago, and as you proceed deeper into it, the light begins to fade as the branches cross over your head and seal out the sunlight. It has become eerily quiet now; the wind blows through the looming trees and rustles the leaves, but there are no birds or other animals to be heard at all. The sides of the path are lined in moss and small rocks, and at one point you spot a rather large spider web between two tree trunks, but it seems uninhabited. The apparent lack of life leaves you with a cold chill down your spine.

You proceed onward, finally leaving daylight behind and verging to enter complete darkness. Upon glancing over your shoulder, the path you followed here appears much like a tunnel now, the sun shining its warm light on the far end. But it's too late to turn back! You came this far already, and your mind is set to go all the way.

After another few minutes, you are clumsily feeling ahead with your hands in the pitch black, tripping over roots and slamming your head on branches. Many bruises and a massive headache later, you notice a faint purple glow ahead on the path, appearing to lure you towards it. Out of a lack of more interesting things to pursue (or see at all, for that matter), you warily approach the glow.

You seem to have come across a bundled, secluded patch of luminescent mushrooms that radiate enough light to reveal the direct surroundings. After staring at them for longer than is necessary, you snap out of it and notice nothing else of interest around here, so you decide sit down for now and take a small rest.

Darn, these look inviting."

Been dabbling in network / web thingies again lately. I upped a basic Apache server and am planning to include a PaintChat as well as some other goodies as demand requires it. I have started a little idea of mine. Basically, I will be posting an ongoing story over polls in my journal, and you guys get to decide how the story goes on and what happens. Every week, there will be a new poll, and the answer with the most votes will be the point where the story picks back up.

Everyone! I'm looking to buy a new scanner. Something not exceeding the range of 100 (~120$) and that will scan colors reliably, and also pick up pencil lines in acceptable quality. I don't need a printer or fax machine with it, just something that will get my pictures ported digitally as authentic as possible. Any recommendations or products that served you well?

I got a ton of Bristol board for Christmas, and it'll be put to use as soon as I find myself out of an inspirational dead-end. Offered some icon commissions on LJ (check over if you're interested, I'm still accepting two more); more updates at a later time.

YES I AM STILL ALIVE K THX and didn't die in a horrible fiery plane crash as some of you have probably hoped. Happy New Year to all of you! There's been some cardboard drawing going on here, and I'll be having myself a new scanner once I get back home (along with a Wiiiii), so if I don't get anything scanned here, it'll be done around February at the latest. Well! That's certainly a pleasant change to the better. I hated trawling through page upon page and deal with server timeouts until something was actually *uploaded*. The new interface is sleek and fast, plus it supports something I've always been missing here: Creative Common licenses.

I think it's a great idea to incorporate them onto this site and give the artists themselves the freedom of how much public / business use they want to submit their art, stories or animations. Plus it makes identification of stock material a lot easier.

Still working away on what needs to be done! Recap:

Cardboard! I posted a WIP of what I'm currently working on at LJ.

I still have more cardboard. Actually, enough for two decent-sized character pictures that will be colored and decorated to match. So if you want your character drawn on cardboard in my silly style with a bit of frill and design to it, I'll do it. I will also mail them to you for free, regardless of where in the world you live.

I will not scan / post either of these two character drawings. The people that get them are free to do so if they wish to, but I think it's a bit of a nicer surprise if you haven't seen it before and get to hold it yourself.

Only conditions are:

No humans

Needs a good reference sheet or descriptive image

No halfhearted / "just because I can get something for free" requests. It'd be nice if you actually valued this a bit and didn't just hog me for the free art or because you happened to be the first to read this.

The third point is important to me. I'm willing to invest time and dedication into this, and I'd hate to have it go to waste because you really don't give a damn in the end run.

I'll choose who I'm going to draw out of those that show true interest, and I'll let those two know via notes. This might seem a bit selfish and unappreciative to all others on my side, but I'd rather draw two characters that I feel comfortable with instead of two where I know neither me nor the person getting it would be really be proud of the end result.

So hey, if anyone is up for it, let me know either via a note or a comment including reference picture links, and I'll decide within a day and then get to work. <3

So whatwhatwhat's been going on?

I've been lazy. I openly confess that. I owe people trades (sorry ~absiLute! :'C), I owe birthday art (some of which is very backdated) and I haven't gone and picked up the acrylics yet. Constant feeling of not wanting to do anything at all. >:C

BUT! I've been playing Dragon Quest 8. HURHUR. I'm glad I utilize my time so wisely. hsdjfghjfg GAME SO ADDICTIVE. *froths a bit*

I also ordered myself a copy of In Front Of The Ant due to it having some of the best to-date macro shots of insects in it. And I'm a sucker for bugs. I should go camerahunting again in the fields tonight and see if I can catch some good pictures C:

Evaluating photography. Shutter speeds, ISO ratings, exposure, focus functions, it's all new to me. But I'm learning, slowly but surely. Thanks to ~lunarwolf, I have a great tool to work with, and I'm determined to make the best of it.

The Eternal Dragon figurine arrived. It's as pretty as the previews promised it would be.

I still need improvement methods on taking good portrait pictures. I've been planning to collect snapshots of people to practise life / "expression" drawing and realism on, but I keep failing at preserving what truly strikes me as unique and "captureworthy" about an individual's appearance.

This is all combined with general insecurity and me hating to have a camera pointed at myself. For some inexplicable reason I always get panic attacks that all people will judge / treat me based on a dull photograph that will be around forever rather than on who I really am / was in person. Sillyphobia. Come full circle to my desire of capturing the individuality of each. Practise practise.

The DA JCSS site for journal customization is currently being scripted and tested, and it's a nice overall refresher for webdesign / coding. Acrylics, however, is still on the list of things to finally get started with. I despise the fact that I take forever to get something going or done, and all the work recently hasn't helped the situation at all.

But I'm willing to let art projects take a bigger priortiy in my life than they had before, mostly because it entertains me to experiment, and there's not a lot of productive alternatives to take it's place either way. So let's take what we have and build a castle to the sky.

WELL. Work work (again, tedious etc. bla) but I have 2 days off now. I'll spend tomorrow tinkering on the CSS generator for basic journal layouts, and most of Wednesday shopping for cool little things in a tiny oriental / handicraft store.

Speaking of cool little things, I totally missed that the McFarlane Dragons series has been brought up to part 4. I instantly had to make this beautiful little fella from the Eternal clan mine.

Yes, I am obsessed with these. Teehee. Also bought a new DVD player for my room since the old one can't even play the standard disks anymore, let alone support music or DivX / XviD. Yay movies!

Slorg is doing okay, so am I (aside from a slight cold) and it's raaainiiing. More arts coming as soon as I can force my way out of the daily routine crap. End of thread, gtfo.

If this works out well I might just write a web-based program to customize your journal CSS and output the code. It's been such a long time since I've scripted something decent in PHP or made a useful webpage ;^;

We went out to eat sushi this weekend. I really didn't expect it to impress me, but wow did it prove me wrong. Maybe it was just a really neat restaurant we went to, but the ambience was excellent, there was next to no noise, the food was the most fresh thing I've ever eaten and it's kind of exciting not knowing what anything tastes like X'D *is a tard*

So! We'll be going again next Friday. Hrngnnfns I need a day off from work so badly. Today I did not know what day it was until around 4 PM. I clicked my way around several desktop computer retailing sites last night and pieced together a 2900 beast at Dell, and a 3200$ machine at Widow. If I ever find a suitcase full of money, I'll know what I'll do.

Until then, I'll save for a Wii in December and a plane ticket straight out of here. Towards the Awesome, always towards it.

In other news, while gardening at my aunt's place last weekend, I found a slorg! He's a quite common brown one, but bigger than the others I've seen so far. I keep him our the garden at day and in a jam jar at night with a leaf of lettuce (or he'll get EATENZORS). Right now he's the most tolerable family member here.

Plus the webcam.

Oh and yessir, shirts ordered. For the win.

Been terribly occupied working each day from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, so excuse prolonged absences. I won't get this weekend off, and probably not the next either. 14 days of work with no free days in between. Woot!

I want some putty. Right now. So I can make a tiny guillotine and kill myself. BUT IT EARNS MONEY. Which I have yet to see any of.

Doodling late at night equals win. None of it is postworthy, but the respective people that could be interested to see will see in due time. Filling sketchbooks, falling from bed to work to the shower to a brief caffeine high and back in bed. So exhausting :C

But well worth it. First paycheck gets this one some new shirts, including this one. No arms, no cookies. BITCH. <3 Oh, this one too. It's madatory.

I apologize for any lateness in commenting, but this ^^^ is insane :C

I've been in a pixelish mood lately again, so I figured I'd use the time I have and redesign my old, old website to turn it into a portfolio of sorts (god, that sounds so blown-up and wannabe-artsy) with the "works" I like best, as well as a place to share interesting links and a little news corner. The whole concept of this is based on a compact pixel art layout, with hover menus and all the pretty things that go along with it. I'll have next week off, so this should be done by the end of it, and anyone who can come up with a good name for the site gets a cookie!

Also, ~morays isn't dead, there's just been no activity since I've been gone for the past seven-ish weeks. We're still looking for a pretty new icon, and there'll be an update for the club tomorrow.

WHY IS THERE NO DENNY'S IN GERMANY. God, this SUCKS. *addicted*
