I recently found a coutil supplier that was selling cotton coutil for half the cost I usually pay. Hurrah! Brilliant! That means I can pass those savings onto my lovely clients. But alas, my dear Watson, Busks have gone up in price, grommets have gone up in price, and one of my silk suppliers has gone up in price.

Annoying, isn't it?

Hopefully having a photoshoot with at the end of May, and I had every intention of making 9 whole new corsets for it. 9 new corsets and two wedding gowns. But oh no. Due to having money stolen from my account, I had to put a lot of postage costs (which have also gone up-by the way) on my credit card. Which has subsequently gone over it's limit and now I have to pay charges on that too.

I am not a happy bunny on the money front. As fast as it comes in these days, it seems to still be going out at the same rate.

The only way to fix this is to triple my prices. Which I don't want to do.

___________________________________________________

I am available for corset commissions.
My Website: [link]
e-mail me: eleanor.dalton88@ntlworld.com

I have special offers at: [link]

You know when you're having a really crap day/week/month and even your lovely partner can't cheer you up. I was having one of those. Until I started making patterns again! I used to hate it, now I love it.

My latest pattern is for a long line overbust, mainly because I want to start wearing corsets but find overbusts unbearable (with having no boobs and lots of ribs) so I thought I'd experiment. And I'm long in the body too so I took that into consideration, and I have a bit of a belly, because my dad keeps buying me chocolate!!! Yes I'm blaming everyone but myself, I can't say no to chocolate and they know this.

So I thought of the long line overbust, made a pattern, made a mock-up ([link] scroll down and you'll see it) and I am now not going to take the mock-up off until I have the real deal to wear. It's so comfortable and I'm loving the lack of love handles! I have room to cinch further too, (so far I've taken two inches off with two to go).

I'm just loving it. I'm going to develop this pattern further... Good job I'm not going to Sams today because I am super motivated to make mock-ups....

___________________________________________________

I am available for corset commissions.
My Website: [link]
e-mail me: eleanor.dalton88@ntlworld.com

I have special offers at:
My Etsy (USA): [link]
My Misi (UK): [link]

Suck it up and just make lemonade.

I have discovered that it is entirely possible to make a corset a day if I work at the speed of a madwoman, so this 6 month challenge thing might go ahead yet. As Jane pointed out I will need to order materials in before hand and will therefore need all the orders/samples booked/planned in advance. This was fine with me and I was about to start ordering today, only someone has stolen my card details and therefore my bank has closed my account for the forseeable future.

That wouldn't be a problem of course if I had a business bank account, and I am in the middle of setting one up. Only I don't want it to be with Lloyds because they are sh**bags when it comes to banking at the minute. Nasty nasty waspish snakes is what they are.

So today I am making metaphorical lemonade and (since I have sort of already done my corset for today by finishing an older one) bathe in the sun. Oh yes, I might even go to the allotment and poke the newts/pumpkins. I am going to try my very hardest to not hink about corsets and money ALL DAY because I am gradually ruining my life.

Anyway, sorry for the rant. I really do believe that all thieving sh**bags should have their tongues cut out. Or their fingers cut off. Eitherway is good for me.

___________________________________________________

I am available for corset commissions.
My Website: [link]
e-mail me: eleanor.dalton88@ntlworld.com

I have special offers at:
My Etsy (USA): [link]
My Misi (UK): [link]

Choice of busk front opening on underbust is up to you. Busk guard and modesty panels included.

The question: Would you be interested in going for this, obviously to go ahead with the challenge I am looking at 120 sales. My schedule is slowing down and not having so much work on is driving me insane, my brides are booked in but I can't start the gowns until closer to the weddings My fingers are itching for some sewing...
I ask because obviously corsets are so personal that a standard size doesn't always cut it. But, having said that, with the amount of time it saves making them (because I have already drafted up several standard sizes of Bethanie in my bordom/hope to sell a hundred, for example) they work out considerably cheaper for the client and sometimes, by some stroke of miracle, standard does actually fit.

I've drafted up this page on my website: [link] that I was hoping some of you could look at and tell me what you think.
I uploaded an image of it today, only the photos were incredibly naff.

The graph paper I'm using for my patterns is nothing short of miraculous, it cuts pattern making time in half (maybe even more) which means I can take that time off my corset costs and balance the cost out against the rising cost of materials. Brilliant!

Anyway, the new underbust is my favourite by far, and I hope you all like it too. The first four commissions for this style I get (in a bespoke size of your choice/your measurements) I will be offering for £140, I'm letting my lovely DA friends know first and then I'll spread the offer the LJ at a later date.

In other news, I sold the red corset with the crystals for £120 - of which I will sadly see nothing, my grandparents need to buy decking... I have a dentist appointment coming up and I fear I may need some kind of brace because my bottom teeth are moving all over the place. Needless to say, the greedy dentist wants a small fortune for this, so wish me luck and good teeth prayers!! So yeah, I don't want to take the money out of my business but it looks like I am going to have to start actually paying myself a proper wage so I can fund Nazi dentists and my grandparents gardening.

After the last couple of corset commissions I did I said I would have to drastically cut the amount of time I can dedicate to corsetry. I am now taking that back. If you or anyone you know would like to commission me for a corset get in touch! I'll be more than happy to do it. After some recent experiences with potential bridal clients I have been severely put off doing bridal all together.

Sam has a new Mac, from which I am writing this journal entry, and I have to admit, after years of hating Macs, I bloody love it!

I want to say a huge thank you to you guys on DA, I don't think you know just how much you all keep me going.

___________________________________________________

I am available for corset commissions.
My Website: [link]
e-mail me: eleanor.dalton88@ntlworld.com

SOLD VIA MY LIVEJOURNAL: [link]

So, the overbust I have put online today: is a sample. It is made with one layer of coutil (gold tulip coutil actually, which is rather bloody lovely and not exactly easy to get hold of anymore) and a layer of interfaced regal dupion silk in a glorious shade of red that the camera can never quite capture.

The size is: Bust 32" (fully closed) best for C-cup bust, Waist, 27.5" fully closed and top hips, 34.5" fully closed.

It can fit up to Bust: 38", Waist: 30" and Top Hips: 40" with a gap in the back and has a modesty panel.

This corset would look brilliant with jeans, black trousers, white summer trousers, skirts, full gown skirts, alsorts really. Versitality is love, people.

Anyway, I'm taking offers for it. Offer whatever you like/think it's worth via note and I'll decide whether or not I can sell it for that amount and let you know.

Why am I doing this? Because I'm crazy at the best of times, but the fact of the matter is I have no more space here for samples and really need to get my ass into a studio... plus my grandparents could do with a little extra cash and I'd like to be able to give them some.

Oh, and postage will be £5 in the UK and £10 anywhere else in the world.

Payment via cheque (in the UK) or paypal (UK and elsewhere).

___________________________________________________

I am available for corset commissions.
My Website: [link]
e-mail me: eleanor.dalton88@ntlworld.com

Because I bought some really cool 1"x1" graph paper to make them on. It is all so much easier now.

I've completed another two commissions which will be posted today, one inside the UK and one in the USA. I'm behind with sample work now though.

I have now decided that I definately need a studio to work from. I think I would be able to put a lot more hours in if I actually left the house to work. There would be considerably less nagging from my lovely relatives during the day and it would make me feel like I had a real job, and therefore, less guilty about doing the job of my dreams.

So, if all of you who read this journal could mention to friends who may be interested in wedding gowns/corsets that I am open for work, I'm sure I could make space in my schedule and save up for my studio. All in all I need to save about £7000 for some new equipment and studio space for a year.

If anyone has any other ideas for pimping my new site and corsets, let me know. I aim to be fully booked for this whole year (april to april) asap for bespoke work.

Also if anyone has anything they would like to see from me, i.e: new underbust styles let me know.

___________________________________________________

I am available for corset commissions.
My Website: [link]
e-mail me: eleanor.dalton88@ntlworld.com

I fell behind with my work because I convinced myself that I had to have my hair cut yesterday, which meant spending 2 hours traipsing around town waiting for my appointment.

I have silly amounts of sewing to get through and I really am beginning to wonder if I have completely lost my mind. As much as a schedule helps and everything, I get quite overwhelmed at the incredible amounts of work I'm cramming into my days. And if I am going to get through it all I really have to cut back on time spent with Sam, even though I take my work with me when I see him.

Never the less, I am still taking corset commissions and bookings for gowns. So if you or anyone you know is interested just drop me a line

I might also get a chance to have a new corset (not yet made-of course) photographed on a lovely model by because she is so wonderfully kind to let me high-jack these things...

My to do list (before the end of march):
Kelsi's commission
Complete Aerona Gown
Complete Amelia Gown
Another gingham underbust (new pattern-not yet drafted)
Black overbust (new pattern-not yet drafted)
Brown underbust (same pattern as the gingham one)
18th C Stays in ivory.
Peachy Overbust (same pattern as the black one)

So, I'm taking bets on how much of all that you all think I'll get through with only 4 days left in march...

___________________________________________________

I am available for corset commissions.
My Website: [link]
e-mail me: eleanor.dalton88@ntlworld.com

I've had a practice run with the embellishment and found a beadmaker (www.tillermanbeads.co.uk) who I want to get my beads from. I have it all planned out but I'm dragging my heels with the pattern making. It just takes so long and I dislike making patterns so much. I don't know why, I find it quite easy to be honest.

It is FMIL's birthday today. I bought her a glass jug type thing that I am now convinced she is going to hate.

I also need to add some finishing touches to Aerona and get it to sooner rather than later. I have some new clients in the US, which always excites me. I like knowing that my work is going so far away. My todo list is huge. I really need to plan it out better.

And as for the cinchers, I have had a very mixed response, and as a result a Cincher style corset may get made at some point if I find the time, but it will be priced as I price all of my other corsets.

___________________________________________________

I am available for corset commissions.
My Website: [link]
e-mail me: eleanor.dalton88@ntlworld.com

I have almost finished the new Aerona Skirt. It no longer has a train. It looks like a completely different dress in all honesty and I'm glad I got pictures of the first one before I reworked it.

The weather here has been a bit topsy turvy over the last few days but I can really see spring breaking through and it cheers me up so much. The sun shines right into my sewing room which has a huge glass bay window and it makes me want to sew even more... anyway.

I am considering making some "economy cinchers". These will be waist cinchers (slightly smaller than underbusts) and still made of high quality materials but sold for not a lot of money. Only I don't know what everyones opionion of "not a lot of money is". So I will ask via my first ever DA poll.

I've made the Acacia corset (most of what I'm talking about here has been done in two days flat-I'm very impressed with my time management skills) and need to hem the skirt and put the waist band on.

I am suddenly very much a super woman! Gomi! Oh, and I've lost an inch off each thigh in just three weeks of using the vibrating plate. I am so impressed.
I have so much to get through I don't know where to start (or finish, in some cases). I've ripped up the Aerona Skirt and pressed it so it's ready to be completely changed. Oh yes, I am officially mad.

I have the Acacia gown to sort out and clients to chase up. I really don't like the chasing part of my job. But if they want their corsets then they have to at least email me their address or tell me when they can collect.

I have to get my website sorted asap and get people directed that way. Since closing my Apricot Couture site I've had no end of corset enquiries, but never fear! I'm still here.

I thought having a super organized schedule would really help my time management, and for the most part it has, only I do everything in the wrong order and get muddled. Balancing five brides is a new challenge. I really must figure out a proper way of sorting their time slots out.

In the meantime I am open for corsetry commissions. I'm not taking any more bridal commissions until I've sorted these ones out. Then at least I might have a more sensible schedule.

___________________________________________________

I am available for corset commissions.
My Website: [link]
e-mail me: eleanor.dalton88@ntlworld.com

I went to the living history fair in Warwickshire and spent no less than 5 hours and 10 minutes enjoying every aspect of history that the peoples could make and sell.

Slightly disappointed in the range of costume though, but they did for once have an independant corset designer, who seems to be just starting out but is lovely as pie. Thats the problem. They are all so lovely you can't help but want to buy everything they have on sale.

And the books. The rare ones.

Don't get me started. (I'm heart-broken).

It's inspired me to get my rear-end in gear and I am going to redo the Aerona corset in a victorian style maybe with some black lace. Yes. This is a waste of approximately £150 but hey, who needs money? And I intend to finish the second sample tomorrow as well.

And-I know the majority of the planet doesn't like plain... but I just think it gives a better base to work from for potential brides. And my embroidery just isn't up to scratch. Or, my embroidery is up to scratch but I just can't get it to work well with the crepe. So back to square one.

I'm so passionate and in love with sewing and creating corsets and gowns and whatever else, that going to these kinds of fairs somehow inspire me and deflate me. I'm tired, I ache and I am so much more aware of just how many people share my passion.

*big deep breath*

So I'm listening to The Who "Baba O'Riley" because it's one of those songs that makes me dance and generally make enough of a fool of myself to get me laughing again... And Jerry Rafferty's "Baker Street". I never thought I was much influenced by music, but some of the oldies are brilliant... Actually, I will shamefully admit that I quite like that new song thats come out.. Something about "let(ting) it rock".

Anyway. One more crazy dance and bed for me. Jane. I'll see you at TORM.

I am currently working on my next sample. A design I drew up about 2 years ago. I did all of the technical development in '07 too so it's going together quite quickly.

Whilst I love the fabric, a deep red silk crepe de chine, and really want to keep it plain (because plain is my personal preference) I'm going to hand embroider the front with gold thread. I've already had a few practices of different methods and I think I have finally chosen one. I'll get the embroidery done over the next couple of days and then commence with getting it all put together.

I think I have enough of this fabric left to make another (plain) corset anyway.

I think my third sample is definately going to be ivory. As much as I love "alternative" colourways and styles I think I need something more regular in my portfolio. All of my current brides want ivory gowns.

My to do list is expanding and my schedule is beginning to get nicely padded out. I have enlarged the pattern from Corsets and Crinolines for the light french stays and began work on making it my size, but I'm doing that between other things. All in all I'm having lots of fun.

There's 5" of snow in my garden.

This is the UK, so yes, that's a lot! Not to mention I spent a good half hour yesterday scraping up ice off our drive so that no one would slip/crash on their way into our house. Now it's all snowed over again! Ah well. Hardly anyone is going to work, kids get days off school and theres not a great deal of people who will venture into town, even when the cupboards are emptying rather quickly.

I tried to bake some biscuits yesterday. I added almond essence by accident and now the biscuits taste manky. Next time I will follow the recipe. Does anyone have a recipe for a biscuit thats like shortbread, but not quite shortbread? I won't pretend that I know what I'm doing but I really wanted to bake something for Sam for Ffolant (Valentines Day) because God only knows he nags me to death for my chocolate cakes! Which I suppose is flattering really.

The wedding dress is nearing completion. Thats a lie, I did find the time to start the corset but then I didn't like it. So I've started again. But it's all cut out and I'll see about getting it done this weekend.

Then I've got a lot of work to get through for my new website etc.

I'm loving the new DA...

Thanks again to everyone who has favourited my work.
DA is confusing my brain. All these new layouts everywhere...

Anyway. I've ordered even more silk, silk organza this time, and the coutil.

I went with tulip coutil in a gold shade to line the corset with, so the corset will be pretty on the inside as well as the outside. The pattern was brilliant first time round and fit like a glove (Elle is mastering the pattern making - finally) but I am considering having a tiny bit more cinch and a lot more squish over my tiny bust. By the time I am finished I will have my glorious 26" waist back (hah! It's not been that small for at least 2 years) and hopefully some sort of bust shape-age.

My origianl budget is somewhat of a myth now. I'm already reaching a rather huge sum of money but all in all I think it's worth it.

So far I have the skirt pleated and the zip in, I am going to try and get the waist band on tomorrow inbetween meetings (yes-on a sunday) and driving lessons -_-

Other than that I owe another huge thank you to all of you who have added me to your watch list and favourited my work.
And it wasn't a petite budget either.

I've just ordered the silk. So I'm sure you can imagine the cost of it, but perfection (yes-it will be perfect) comes at a cost, and the quality of the silk is just amazing. Mouth wateringly so.

Oh. And it isn't green anymore either

I have been messing around trying to choose a colour for the best part of four months (FOUR!) so when I decided on green (before my glorious James Hare swatch books arrived) just to be told by so many old fashioned women in my family that it was bad luck and no one gets married in green anyway (thats not true, I have seen one bride get married in green and she looked lovely) I had to change my mind.

So last sunday I gave in and gave up on green, after all, this sample has to make women swoon, and that is hard to do!

I had settled on "peony pink" by monday from the JH range (I want to buy all of my silk from them from now on!). I decided that I was going to be a snob and settle for nothing less than JH Silk and Peony pink was kind of reddish anyway... But just in the last hour I have gone for Japan Red and so I wouldn't change my mind (again) I ordered it. And out went the budget. All of it. So this is going to turn out to be more expensive than I thought.

But I really don't mind.

Sorry to those of you who were excited about a green dress... I will make one, just not yet.

In the mean time I have a ruff and cuffs to finish along with finishing off an Elizabethan ladies gown. So back to work for me!

I just wnt to say a quick thank you to those who have favourited me or my work. I appreciate it and will get around to responding asap.
(MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!)

Corsets and Crinolines: page 78: Light french Stays for Your Wardrobe Unlock'd Single Pattern Project [link]

I am going to begin the pattern today (yes, Christmas Eve) because one thing that is certain about Norah Waugh's lovely book is that you have to figure is all out from the technical drawings, and not being a maths wizz, I think that may take a while and lots of note making!

The corset would have been made from white coutil (considered more ladylike) or grey/putty/black coutil (considered to be more practical) and have a busk front opening. I'm aiming to keep it quite plain with maybe a bit of flossing on the boning channels. But obviously thats a decision and God only knows I'm rubbish at making decisions. So we'll just take it one step at a time and see where I end up.

I have never made a corset of this shape before for one simple reason, it is short. I'm not keen because I do have a little bit of a stomach (and a long body) and I imagine a corset of this style would push that downwards creating a bit of a "pooch" but we'll see how it goes. The corset - of course - is going to be worn over a chemise anyway, so no-one will be subjected to any obnoxious photo's.

Action Plan
Complete Pattern
Make a Mock up
Fit and adjust Mock Up
Make changes to Pattern
Choose fabrics for Final Corset.

So. Here goes....

The wedding dress (which is no longer going to be fuchsia, or green, and I can't decide what colour!!), the costumes (Edwardian, Tudor, 18thC), the endless list of corsets (which should be a priority due to the website and all) or other pieces like my winter coat, my summer dress and the evening dress which I wanted for new year...

Tell me what to do!!!!!!!!!

Me.

So now I'm an uber Freelance Designer Maker if anyone cares to know. I made that title up myself because I really don't know how else to explain my career/job to random family members.

My first Freelance project is two Elizabethan smocks, one for a maid and one for a Gentlewoman. These are my first Smocks (Yes - Lovely Costumier Lady knows this, but trusts my sewing skills) and I don't think I will be allowed to post images of them online, but will happily link to them later on if LCL puts them on her site.

Said Smocks are going to be in a museum, so you can imagine how fantastic I feel about the whole thing. Elated, delighted, utterly excited! I'm just pre-shrinking the fabric now. They have to be finished for Sunday.

I'm still taking orders and commissions for my own corsets by the way. Just so you know.

I just want to say a big thank you to those who have favourited my work recently. I have finished another sample whch I will get photographed at some point this week. But for now, I must get back to practicing my hand stitching.

With Christmas coming up and my ever-filling cupboards I need to make some space. So I am selling some samples.

All corsets are made with spiral steel boning, steel busks and 2 layers of coutil lining. They all feature handstitching at the seams to hold the layers together neatly and comfortably. All corsets have been worn once (by the model) and therefore will be further reduced.

The samples I am selling are:

Midnight: Iris

To fit a natural waist of 32" and give up to a 4" cinch.
£50(Usually £95)

Midnight: Paige

To fit a natural waist of 32" and give up to a 4" cinch.
£50 (usually £110)

Midnight: Sheri

To fit a natural waist of 28" and give up to a 4" cinch.
I am going to make a wedding dress. It is going to be a slow project because commissions are flying in for Christmas and I still have 9 samples to make (eep).

I just need a bigger creative challenge and as I plan to get married soon (yes, Sam knows this-whether he'll turn up or not is a completely different matter!) I should get some practoce in. Apparently I'm not allowed to get married in comfy jeans -_-

Anyway, it's going to be super over the top, I'm going to try new embellishment methods and ideas. I'm considering Fuchsia for the colour. So far my idea extends to having quite a full skirt with loads of fabric....

This idea makes me happy. Corsets aren't challenging me enough at the moment so doing this would be good.

Sorry I've not been around a great deal recently. Had a lot going on! It's all been quite exciting though!!

I am not ignoring you and will hopefully soon get around to responding to each of you individually <3 ))

I am now in the process of making my next collection. I'm aiming to have in completed for the 24th.

The fabrics arrived today and they are very glam. It's satin taffeta (you better believe it-slippery stuff!). I have ordered 7 different colours yet only planned to make six corsets, I have enough fabric to make about 10, so I'll see how that goes.

I'm also making another gingham corset. I know I'm obsessed and I know you lot are probably sick to the highest heavens of gingham! But I have some kind of affinity with the stuff!! It just goes together so utterly perfectly. And I must say, I am the master-binder! I'm so pleased with my hand stitched binding I keep showing it to random family members. Luckily, they already know I'm crazy!

Project Runway. *nods*. I love Kenleys designs, I don't much care for the attitude but half of me feels it has been cut and paste to make her look worse. Besides, the others really seem to provoke her sometimes. Her wedding gown was something else entirely and the bridesmaid gown was totally how it should have been and I really do think that she puts in the work and the dedication.

Please help me decide what to do. I'm a bit frazzled and I have been trying to decide all day.

Should I; A)Pad out my website with more additions to the collections already available (I.e. more gingham, more single layer and more dupioni corsets).

Or B) Create a luxurious Christmas collection.

If A, then fair enough, but this could also lengthen the time between my next collections due to cash struggles.

If B, I need a theme/idea. I'm stuck on velvet at the moment but just can't settle on any particular designs/colours/themes.

I want my designs to make potential customers mouths water. I want people to fall in love with them. This collection would haveto be striking, innovative and fabulous (and they are all the reasons why I'm a crap designer).

I'm just finishing up on this burlesque costume then I will probably be purchasing fabrics and materials, so any input is greatly appreciated.

Also, my two cousins, who previously wanted to model and photograph for me have suddenly urged that I contact them as soon as the next corsets are ready... but I'm not so sure. I love them both to bits but time constraints may hinder the release of the corsets... they both work and one is in full time education (taking photography, obviously, so will also have access to a studio).

I just don't know what to do
