If you are a purist and have by faith came upon my journal, then I encourage you to keep on reading with an "Open Mind". Now if you're like me who likes to tweak or manipulate his photos for a good purpose, then I encourage you also to read since I will make some strong pointers that you can also use as argument towards purists.

Almost every subject nowadays has evolved the past 50 years. Even Photography has evolved. The Digital Photography is one of the biggest evolutions in Photography. The way people treat and shoot photos was never like they do it today. And many purists CANNOT accept that. Why? Because they believe it became too easy making good photos now. What they did in their darkrooms and spent lots of money in there is now replaced by a simple software like Photoshop. Because shots are now saved on a memory card people can keep on shooting and shooting which you couldn't do during the film days…and the list goes on.

Oh maybe some purists don't give a shit about that part. Maybe what disturbs the others is what the new generation does: Post Processing Photos or Photo manipulation.
Seriously, I have a question on you if this bothers you: Why does it bother you? Why do you complain? Why do you say they shouldn't edit?

Did a photographer who edits photos ever say to a purist: "Hey edit your photo it looks too plain and common".
Did this ever happen? Did they ever complain about purists? (excluding magazine printed photos since editing here is 'sometimes' inevitable).

But why do purists always complain? Not us? Yes in fact on many purists, we have something against your photos but not all of them and we respect you all.
Why is there always something like "that photo is not good because it has been edited" or "Why did u post processed it?" or "you must be a bad photographer because you're doing editing"? Why do you say that? Why don't you look at the final output? The message? The emotion? The composition? The creativity?

Did you as a purist know that in the Digital Photography World you can't be called a purist anymore? Ok here a technical explanation:
The standards of a camera feature to make a photo are usually shutter speed, iso and aperture (we wont talk about the sensor and processor). But we also have other settings like picture styles and white balance. On some cameras even noise reduction and hdr features. Are these normal features or are they there for "enhancement" of a photo? Your DSLR by the moment you click the trigger produces a RAW file, regardless what saving format you've set on your cam. In case you've set it to JPEG, your camera will produce a JPEG using RAW and applies all additional features of your cam to a final compressed file format: JPEG. Then it throws the RAW away. Oh by the way, during the process, the final JPEG file has lost 30% data of the original shot. Conclusion: Post Processing is inevitable since digital cameras do that already for you, unless you shoot in RAW.

Now what if you shoot in RAW? Does this make you now a purist? What if you convert it to TIFF or JPEG? Crop it? Add watermark? Or even resize it?

Remember this: Post Processing means everything you do with a photo between taking it off your cam up to the final printing.

Remember also this: Photo Manipulation starts when you add or remove elements to a photo. Dodge and Burning is NOT Photo Manipulation. Sharpening, Cropping, Enhancing Colors are also NOT Photo Manipulation.

Finally, Remember also This: Photo Manipulators are NOT automatically Graphic Designers. Same goes to those who Post Process Photos. Graphic Designers CAN do post processing and photo manipulations, but it doesn't mean that everyone who does that is automatically a graphic designer. For example, if I would be the best photo manipulator, could I apply as a Graphic Designer on a Multimedia Company? No, because I don't know how to "draw graphics". Remember also that graphic designers are divided into Digital arts, Traditional arts and 3 Dimensional arts. There is more, but these are the common ones.

Ok, now that we have clarified the part of editing photos, now let's say you call yourself a purist because you don't edit photos (this is getting more literal now).

My question is the Purist Photography. Most purists say they want to photograph it the way they have seen it. Unedited. Ok… have you ever seen an animal or a person or an environment only in black and white? Hahaha.

Ok I go into details: Do you use strobe lights? Do you use lens filters? Do you use slow shutter speed on waterscapes or landscapes? Do you use flash? I think you know where I'm getting into. And I rest my case on this part. Only because something is accepted already for a long long time doesn't mean that it makes you a purist since you do only those things. In fact you NEED those things because your creativity goes t...

I know Dev is so big and has so many deviations and members, that its hard to caught the attention of other users to view your art. Im proud of my 2000+ pageviews because even if its only 2000, it proves that u dont have to be a subscriber, beta tester or even BUY YOUR CLICKS to get that. Maybe someday Ill go for subscription, but as of now Im happy being an ordinary member here. I am a member here since last year around august, but never was active or posted something. Just around december I started to become active, and I know that the pageviews can only grow from time to time even if I leave my Gallery the way it is now. But ill keep on posting, my goal now is to achieve 5k pageviews in a few months. Anyway, thanks for all those members. More power to DA!!!

I visited on sunday the fields of brambauer, and I had my fun in making photos. The only thing which sucked is that I had to walk with my heavy equipment for around 1 hour back and forth. But it was worth it since I was able to look on my way for other places to take shots from.

What really sucked was when I went to Westfalenpark. Its a big park with an 140m high tower. I went early because they were only selling tickets on the entrance gateway up to 6pm, but the park was till 23pm open.

I was so in a rush, that I hadn't got time to charge my batteries for my cam. So u can already guess what happend. I was walking thru the whole park to weight until its dark, because I wanted to take night shots from Dortmund city, making long exposures and so on.

I took some shots inbetween from birds, flowers, lakes and so on...until my cam suddenly displays on the LCD "Change batter pack". FUCK! wooaah!

I went to the cafes inside the park, inquired here and there if they were selling double A batteries. I thought ok, good that I brought my 2nd battery pack for double A batteries, but I didn't brought the batteries!

When I was about to leave the park, I saw one last cafe, and asked the woman if they would sell batteries. She said no but she brought her own double A batteries. She told me its from her boss and she wasn't sure how much to charge for the batteries. I just gave her 7 euros for those 6 batteries I've got from her (I was lucky she didn't asked more, at that point she could asked me for more and there's nothing I could have done).

Then I was happy again. But then, minutes later my polls allergy kicked in...my eyes went red and my nose was full and I could barely see. Probably because I was near on trees, flowers and grass fields.

Well I took 3 of my tablets against polls but still no effect. I started to became tired of the effect.

9pm I took the elevator to go up the tower, totally excited to make shots from the sunset and later on long exposure shots from the city.

But then I saw that the restaurant upstairs is closed every monday. WTF!!! They had a nice view and u could easily make long exposure shots because the restaurant had big windows.

So I went to the top floor, to try to make shots from there in the open area. But the wind was to strong to make exposure shots. Well bad luck for me. I extra brought my tripod. Trying with my last hope to make a moon shot (last night was full moon) I held my cam and tripod with all my strength. But all the effort was worthless. So I went down the tower and wanted to make night shots from the tower reflecting the lake.

2 young boys and 2 girls were lying in the park late night just about 20 feet away. When I finished my setup of tripod etc., suddenly I hear a guy screaming "go away with your fucking camera". I said "Got any problems with what I do?".

So I unpacked everything and walked very fast towards them. I didnt knew if those were big guys, many guys and so on. It was too dark. But once I get really angry, I don't care who is in front of me.

So I shouted at them and I was about to kick one of the guys butt. But they kept on saying sorry and the girls tried to calm me down.

Well, hell of a night...but at least I got my shots. Oh and there are some people who reacted against my previous journal but didn't post at all, u can see on the last part why many people suck here. Let me rephrase the sentence I said last time: Not all people suck here, but most of them!

am so damn busy nowadays, that I don't even have got time for myself and my friends. all i can do from time to time is practicing a little photography with my 2 months old cam (as u can see on my designs, I'm a pretty newbie in this).

I only have some experiences in graphics design, but real elegant and good quality pics is not yet my forte. gotta work alot on this. maybe someone here could help me on all of those settings I've got. Also, maybe someone could give me some ideas what kind of lens kit I should buy next month. I've still got this standard 18-55mm lens.

Well, as said earlier, I don't have much time because there are so many tasks that I have to accomplish in our company, and I'm getting crazy scripting webpages and flash apps and so on, despite to think that I have no partner and I'm the only IT in our company as of now.

Web and programming is my forte, but my hobby is in design...so for all those DA members, I would appreciate it if you could guide me and help me from time to time.

Keep it up guys,
