Hey Deviants,
Sorry for dropping the ball lately, I've been busy a plenty. Currently in preproduction for three shoots to carry me through to mid-feb, trying to write a script, trying to finish my old film and at the same time with a dolly construction project on the go.

I'll have some more pictures to contribute soon, I promise, but I have to get my life back together first. But I'll be watching y'all. So keep it up and see you all very soon.
Ciao.

Alrighty then....
So I've just uploaded 8 shots from everywhere from Luxembourg to Paris to Vancouver. And a few of you even liked a couple of them. that's nice to know, seriously, very appreciated. I have to voice a bit of frustration right now though...

When I mark a peice "Advanced Critiques Encouvraged" I'm asking for it. And by it, I mean criticism, positive or negative of my work. I'm using this page to showcase my photography and try to improve it. So, go on, take off that kindness hat and get your magnifying glass out. Tell me what's wrong with the peice, or for that matter, what's right with it. Believe me, I won't get angry.

Anywho.... I 've been back in Paris for 16 days now and I'm feeling very at home and very much in charge of my life. I miss some people from home, but for the most part I really feel my life as being here. On the other hand I can't for the life of me seem to write a script on realism. That's somewhat depressing if you go as far as reading into the connotations of that (i.e. I can't even work out my own reality). But, I'm sure I'll get there. If anyone's got an inspiring story they want told on film, please don't hesitate to message me. Anyway, the day's getting grayer by the minute and while I don't really have anything to do today, I badly need a way to finish this journal so I'm gonna pretend I do.
Cheerio folks, keep on truckin...or mopeddin, your choice.

Hello again dA,
Thanks for 100 pageviews, here's to many more on route to world domination. I am looking forward to heading back to Paris in just over 2 weeks but I still have a few [mis]adventures left before I go.

On a completely other topic, I have seen the film to defy all films: "Kontroll" by Hungarian director Nimrod Antal (yes, I know his first name is Nimrod...) is a fantastic trip through the world of ticket controlers in the Budapest metro system... see it!

Peace, you all, I am outa here.

This is something of a sentimental post. It's about the west coast, about my home, about where I've come from and about where I'm headed. And somehow, all of this was summed up in a single day. Well that's not technically true.

This weekend I was called out to be a focus puller (that's the guy who makes sure the image stays sharp throughout a shot - for those SLR feinds out there, I'm your left hand) on what turned out to be an overgrown College Film School production. Wasn't that exciting with the exception of the fact that the DP is something of a local legend (Tony Mirza - imdb him...) and that Byron Kopman happened to be the Gaffer (or dude in charge of playing with the lights). Now, this is where my digression begins, but believe me, its a story worth telling.

Byron and I started making movies together in grade 9 and depending on whose story you believe, either he got me inspired or I gave him his start. Both are true. We've worked on numerous high school projects together and have eventually made our way into the independent mainstream. The thing is, I hadn't see him in about 2 years, since I left for Switzerland. So I finally ran into him on set and amid other conversation, he invited me on a hike up Vancouver's notorious "Lions" - two ignious rock intrusions visible amid the north shore mountains. Of course, I said yes.... why else would I be writing this?

Let's just say the hike was sublime. Byron, acting as the oncall taxi driver in his dad's Chrysler Pacifica, picked us all up around 7:30am, and we were on the trail by 8am. After nearly getting lost at the first fork in the road some 500m up the trail, we walked through the trees, taking occasional peeks out at what at that point looked like a spectacular view. We hadn't seen anything yet!

When we finally cleared the tree line into the open, we caught a glimpse of what can only be described as my reason for loving home. In short we spent 9 hours in the most beautiful suroundings that could possibly justify the existence of a god (and I'm an atheist). We laughed (a lot), we talked about life, the universe....everything (D.A. was right: the answer is 42), we sat in awe... and when the numb captivation of that day wore off (sometime earlier today), I cried.

I have been truly fortunate to have had this experience. Byron, Catherine and Jen, you will all hold a very special place in my heart for a very long time. Perhaps forever. Thank you for creating a memory of Vancouver that will ensure I never think bad thoughts of this place. and sorry about my camera not working.

Love, Peace and Rock and Roll forever. Stay cool, BC. Love ya with all my heart.

So, for those of you viewing my page for the first time this won't mean a lot. If that's the case refer to the first journal entry. But, heck, this one's right here in front of you, so why not read it too I suppose.

This is just a simple not to address the latest photos posted on the site, specifically those black and whites dealing with my hometown: Vancouver. In many ways this is my farewell, forget me not to the city which has raised me. I can't help but get nostalgic everytime I come back. In other ways, I think this collection is a holding tank for memories of a town that I know I would miss more than I could ever express.

I've returned to Vancouver 4 times now, since first moving to Switzerland (and of course later to France) two years ago (it was September 7th, 2004, I remember it distinctly), and each time I've felt the distance between me and the town grow. The funny thing is, each time I go back, I miss it a little more. Anyway, I hope this conveys that feeling and that, at the very least, it will give all of you a nice glimpse of a great city and will allow me a pied-a-terre, even if its just psychological.

All the best to you, be you at home or elsewhere....

Well, hello again to everyone out in the DA kingdom. I have been away a while, traveling around Europe and setting up a new life in Paris. I have to say I love the town and I have even grown quite fond of its residents (yes, I know shocking). But alas, it is good to be back, I have missed my addiction, and I hope, it has missed me.

I will mostly be posting photographs taken with my 35mm Olympus OM-1 and a few quirky journal entries. Hopefully you'll like 1 or 2 of them and feel quite free to vilify me about the others. Criticism IS a good motivating factor, for me anyway.

But then, I guess I aught to introduce myself.

I am a film-maker, I have considered myself one since I was 16. Thus far I have 3 independent short films to my credit as a director. To be completely honest my interest in film is inclined towards the visual, that is cinematography. I hope to one day work as a cinematographer and paint with motion and light the way John Alton used to.

That being said, directing wouldn't be so bad either.

At any rate, I now live in Paris away from my childhood home of Vancouver, Canada (Ironically, I'm writing this from Vancouver where I'm spending this summer). This page will be a forum for my progression as a photographer. Please be critical, if you like something and know why: tell me. If you don't and know why: tell me. There is a good chance that I won't. Don't worry about patronizing me. I'm here to learn and improve. That being said I hope this page isn't an eyesore, and if I ask for something not to be commented on, pls respect that.

All the best, keep up the quirkiness.
