My Sunday School kids, when surveyed about what they want to learn this year, all voted that they would like to learn about other religions. So, if you live in Seattle and your 4th through 8th graders would like to learn about Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Wicca, Judaism, Taoism, and Misc. World Pantheons, etc. (I'm the teacher, I get to plan the lessons!), bring them by the Methodist church at 9:30 in the morning on Sundays. We play with candles a lot, because I'm the teacher and I get to decide when it's time to call the fire department, too.

If you live in Seattle and want to represent your religion to 4 or 5 4th-8th graders who will be playing with candles and squishy balls while you try to talk, note me and I'll see what I can do. (It can be done- I do it every week. And they'd much rather listen to you than me, believe me. I have to pull out psalms about people's entrails being pulled out in pieces to get their attention.) If you alert me ahead of time, I can bring you candles and squishy balls to play with while you talk, too!

So as far as my Sunday School life goes, things are awesome. I had some amazing conversations with my Sunday School kids' parents about our proposed curriculum, and was reminded again how cool my church is. The general consensus was, "We're glad you're teaching this, because we want our kids to learn it, and where else would they learn something like this? and you have a secular degree in world religions, so we're pretty sure you won't be brainwashing them any more than you already *have been*.... for OR against said other religions." And my kids are as excited about this idea (they feel like they're really sticking it to the man) as they were about playing Hide And Go Seek In The Dark Gym last week, which is considerable. And shit, I'm totally pumped. I love this stuff.

But I *actually* bothered writing a journal because The Endless Forest has put out Phase Three, and it's adorable and very cool, and if your life is full of stress and your computer has a good graphics card, it makes the best meditation tool/screen saver you will ever download. What other screen saver lets you gallop through a beautiful forest as a graceful deer with a human face? Go take a look! [link]

In other news: My job rocks, still... Hardware is more fun than it ever should be. Halloween is coming up. If you live in Seattle and have any use for a garbage can with the bottom cut out and/or an Oscar the Grouch costume, please note me so that I have a home for my costume once Halloween is over. It seems like a real shame to waste a perfectly good garbage can just because the bottom is missing. It would make a nice planter or something. If you live somewhere other than Seattle and want it AND are willing to pay for shipping, you let me know.

I have a nasty ass cold, which makes my nose piercing way less fun than it should be. I'm behind in everything I'm supposed to be doing because of said cold. But it could be worse. I do not have tonsillitis, for instance, like one of my coworkers.

The sun is going. I miss it like you might miss oxygen (oops, which I also miss, since I only have .25 functioning nostrils, right now), but it hasn't been gone so long that I'm out of the "Yay I can wear my cool scarves and fabulous giant sweaters!" stage, yet. Which is good!
Summer is coming. I am fat and happy, instead of beautiful. The car was an accident, but it's time I had a car, right? I'm a big girl. I would rather have a muse of fire, I think, or just a big fat fabulous church circle, but a car will be nice.

In December, I tagged everyone with a poetry meme, planning to track down everyone who did it, and since my poem brain hasn't quite come out of hibernation, yet, but I'm trying to rouse it, I went and tried tracking people down today. I'm glad I did, since I found a lot of poets whose work I want to come back and read when I have the braincells. If you're bored and feel like browsing, here's a survey!

 More shameless self-promotion!

I like memes... They're fun and funny. There's one going around that's something along the lines of "25 Things No One Knows About You", (which should be called "25 Things No One Knew About You 'Til Just A Second Ago") and I was editing a poem today when I had an Idea.

So, without further ado:
25 Things My Poetry Says About Me.
The rules: Each of the 25 things is a line from your poetry. Any poem, though I tried to stick with ones I've posted on deviantART. And if you're playing, you're a poet... Weave them!
They don't have to originally be about you... Just lines that strike you as illustrative.
I hereby tag all poets! If you're not sure if I am watching your journal, and you play along, you should totally leave a comment with a link to your journal, so I can read them. I poetry.

1. I am a raging soul, a singing soul, a skinny-dipping in conversation's soul
2. I see God in you every time you look away
3. I am not alone and I am not alone
4. ourselves again without regret
5. Hopes in the corner
6. and she comes down
7. Badgering in my basement
8. Whoa. Intensity, yes
9. ghosts and bellyquakes
10. lizard-daughter of the sun, the youngest child
11. with light still dancing in her teeth--
12. I hung a smile from my eyes for you. It left pinholes
13. so I am clinically aware of men
14. Being human, I approached,
15. with spring on my arm
16. I love you, and I am
17. here
18. The dragon's walls hold me up
19. I said, I am a lightchild,
20. built this myself with my own damn bones
21. fingers, wonder and joy. Buildings
22. I know earthquakes. I wear thin cracks
23. Joy, they said.
24. dark and boundless, come to me.
Following the extremely cool example of , I am offering a free sketch of their character to the first five people who ask for one here. If you don't have a character, make one up and I'll try to draw it for you. Or I'll do you.
The catches:
1) Haha, I'm slow as hell, sorry, and I can't promise quality work.
2) You have to post the same offer in your journal! I don't think it has to be a sketch... make icons or photomanip or draw a stick figure or something, whatever you do artistically! Write a story? I don't know.
Please give me a lot of reference or description in your comment, or note me.

Qwonk (see icon above), who is a better artist than I am, is offering the same deal... if you hurry, you can get one from her!

People who get pictures:

In general, drawings are in my "scraps" gallery. Poetry is in my "deviation" gallery.
(This is to protect the delicate sensibilities of my poetry-loving friends, and to accurately represent my feelings about my drawings. )
Image Copyright Policy

I don't make any money off my art, so I have no reason to copyright it. Please feel free to use my images in any way you want, unless otherwise noted in the image's comment. You don't have to get prior permission or let me know, though I'd love to see if you do use them.

Exception:

Many of the people whose characters I draw don't want their characters stolen. So if you use an image of mine to represent someone other than the original subject, and I don't list the original subject as up for grabs in the image comment, please alter the image so as to make the character different. Remove identifying markings/tattoos, that kind of thing. If you're really nice, I might even be willing to remove them for you. Just note me. Thanks.
