4. new studio space: albeit in my new apartment. design studio space on opposite end of living room. photo studio space on opposite end of bedroom. and enough room to hula hoop in!

well, great and wonderful dj reborn had a gig that was canceled last friday (why rain, why?), but rescheduled for this friday - tonight. i thought this was perfect! i'd be off work and actually have time to make something new to wear (which i've been itching to do all summer, plus i'd never been to the studio museum in harlem before and i wanted to feel extra special). so i embarked on the making of a new dress. BUT i also promised to donate some artwork for a silent auction at a big obama fund-raiser being held on saturday. i had to hand in my artwork by thursday, so that had to take precedence...poo! well, not poo, exactly, but you know what i mean. i worked myself into a tither trying to figure out what to do for the artwork...finally, on thursday (in the wee hours), i decided to get some photos printed and mounted and use that. of course, i also had to put labels and ad my artist bio (i hate writing about myself...it feels like writing my own obituary). so i really only had thursday night and friday daytime to whip up this dress i wanted out of some west african fabric given to me by the ever-lovely and fabulous miss cristina. SO, i got to work!

then, before it got too late, i decided to make myself a little something to eat...and inadvertently stabbed myself in the left hand. nearly two inches long and pretty deep. past the fatty tissue. lots of bleeding. of course, i'm pretty clumsy and a veteran of self-induced injury, so i wasn't panicked at all. but after the bleeding slowed 15 minutes later and i was all wrapped up (and i'd eaten), it occurred to me that i had very limited sensation in my smallest (and favorite) finger. i looked online with my one good hand, and decided i should probably take my uninsured self to the emergency room to be on the safe side. i spent WAY too much money on art school to lose the use of a hand at this stage in the game...

three stitches and several hours later, i returned home, did a little work on the dress, and poured myself into bed around 6am. woke up at 11:30am and got back to work on the dress. i only had a 2nd muslin for the bodice done. i checked the fit on that, made pattern corrections and cut it in fabric. i didn't do a pattern for the skirt at all. just measured, cut and sewed. time was getting really close. i was supposed to meet cristina at the studio museum at 7. i texted her i'd be there by 7:30pm. i finished the dress in such a manner that it looked presentable (as long as you don't get too, too close or turn it inside out or anything), and got on the train at 7:20pm. got to the studio museum at 8:30pm. cristina was wonderfully un-upset by my tardiness. dj reborn was AMAZING on the turntables (no surprise there). and apart from the pain and disappointment i felt from the shoes i'd picked up the week before to go with the dress i'd made, i had a phenomenal time!

the moral of the story: new dresses, good friends, and ass-shaking make everything better.

i wanted to have my hair done, and the girl who used to do my hair would totally come out to handle me, BUT she now lives in new jersey, and i would feel too guilty to drag her out to my house to handle my purple braidiness. so i contacted the Wonder Twins. the Wonder Twins had come to do my hair on one other occasion, and i was VERY pleased with the results. snag in the plan: the wonder twins were still with their family in hamburg, germany!!! BUT, in accordance with prophecy, i get a message saying that their visa situation was finally cleared up, and they would arrive in new york on 24th march, and would be delighted to come and get me all braided up nice for my birthday the very next weekend. i do love them so. they're adorable. i just want to keep them in my pocket! not completely like the mothra twins...mmmm....mothra twins...

and on top of all that love, i had a theme birthday: Rockabilly Bowling. basically, everyone had to get dressed up rockabilly style and come out for bowling and drinks. a good time was had by all. and just a couple of weeks later, the family i work with decided to take a semi-impromptu trip to take the baby visiting family in paris, so i had a whole week off of work! paid. nice...

and now i'm back at work and the baby has finally mastered the art o the the two-hour nap. love this kid.

okay, gotta go "work".

i'm quite pleased with how the new year is rolling along...and soon it will be my birthday. i love birthdays more than any other holiday. i get so excited about my birthday that if you ask me how old i am six months before my birthday, i'm already calling myself by my upcoming age and often have to correct myself. birthdays are the best!

i'm going to jamaica at the end of the week to photograph the wedding of one of my closest friends and someone who i've admired, i think, for as long as i've known her...i'm all warm and fuzzy. both literally and figuratively. i can't wait to get out of cold-ass nyc (if only for a few days) and soak up some warmth and sunshine...

this is all very exciting. do try to keep up!

in other news, i'm at a very crucial place in so many areas. the two most important being my whole day-job-i-do-so-that-i-don't-have-to-deal-with-fashion-all-the-time situation, and my i-gotta-move-and-wanna-live-on-my-own-again-but-can't-afford-to-do-without-a-roommate-because-my-day-job-isn't-sorted-yet situation. the two are so intrinsically linked, and yet both coming at me at the same time with an almost reckless disregard for one another. on the one hand, my current only part-time job is a really sweet situation. it just so happens that i cannot afford to continue existing on only part-time money, and the job cannot afford to keep me on for full-time hours to support that. so that gives us two options: 1) find a second part-time job and hope that the two cobbled together can make my life financially livable without running me into the ground physically and mentally; or 2) find a full-time job and give notice to my sweet, steady part-time gig.

you should know, dear reader, that i am attempting both simultaneously, to some extent...with varying results. i've been looking more aggressively into a second part-time position that will fit into the hours i have available, i've also been responding to people who've contacted me about full-time gigs. you should also know that i have been looking for a second part-time job for over a year, and all i've gotten out of it is a bunch of credit card debt, and occasionally the vague recollection that i actually used to be able to save money. i should also mention that i've actually had a very favorable response from the world at large at the idea of my going full-time.

now, the part-time people know that i'm also looking into full-time possibilities. the positives of this are two-fold. 1) i don't like lying or being sneaky. i'm a straight-forward kinda girl, and that's how i do business. 2) if i need a reference, it's all good because we all are in on what the situation is.

the thing is: my part-time people always say that "of course, [i] have to make the decision that's right for [me]" but the feeling i'm getting is that they'd like it a lot better if i made the decision that's right for them. and we have some history together. we work well together. if they could just pay me twice as much, i wouldn't need to even be searching for jobs right now. but they can't, so i must. what else is there to do? how long can i keep everyone's best interests in mind except for my own. everyone is so keen on my helping them to make their lives more manageable, but how will i ever get to a place financially where i can afford to properly manage my own affairs if i don't look out for myself? i'd like to go on vacation at some point. i'd like to have health insurance. i don't think these are unreasonable things to reach for. unattainable goals to have. my best girlfriend lives in hong kong and i've never been out there to see her even once since she moved there three years ago! this is not the life that i want.

then there's the apartment situation. i don't want to move, but i gotta move. first off, i don't want to move. i hate moving. i hate packing. and i hate unpacking and starting over. i hate moving. i love my neighbors, and i'm used to my neighborhood. but i gotta move. then the dilemma becomes: do i get my own apartment (which i should very much like to do), or do i squeeze myself into another roommate situation? easy answer: my own place. definitely my own place. get what furniture i want. decorate how i want. come and go and make noise at all hours as i see fit. hard answer: i can only do that if i land a full-time job and sooner rather than later. right now i have the cash to move in to any place i choose. i have the first month and deposit money on some reasonable place that could be mine all mine. however, unless i'm pulling down full-time type money, and soon, i wouldn't be able to afford the second month's rent and expenses without an excessive amount of hustle. and one cannot hustle 24/7 AND squeeze in full-time job interviews. there just aren't enough hours in the day.

so much to say...but so much to keep to myself for a moment. i've been giving serious thought to my financial situation lately, and i'm making a lot of decision to take me in directions i've been wanting to go but have been overcautious about taking the steps to get me there. no more. first, let's talk about my on-again-off-again relationship with fashion.

as many of you know, about a year and a half ago, i left my job with one mr. sheisty mcbastard and broke up with fashion. fashion and i had been together for a very long time, but i just wasn't sure if we were good for eachother anymore. i mean, fashion is a bad boyfriend/girlfriend/significant what have you...fashion only wants to talk about fashion. fashion never asks you how you're doing. fashion only wants to hang out with fashion's friends. and fashion never takes you anywhere nice anymore unless it's some fashion-related event. fashion acts like fashion is curing cancer, when in fact fashion is just making clothes. fashion needs to stand back and look at the big picture. it's never quite the crisis situation that fashion seems to think it is. over the last year and a half, in efforts to make ends meet financially, i have had my fair share of fashion booty calls...but fashion just wants to get fashion's stuff done and then get out. fashion doesn't want to stay and cuddle.

but our time apart has taught me about myself and also about fashion. and i have decided to take fashion back, but only on my own terms. and my terms are these: i will do everything in my power to NEVER work for someone else in fashion again. i will do everything in my power to start small, but think big dreams for me and fashion. i will only do fashion that is ecologically and ethically responsible, using organic cottons, bamboo, hemp, or other recycled or sustainable fabrics; and being manufactured in a place that pays its workers a fair living wage. so fashion can take it or leave it. i'm not working for fashion anymore. fashion is working for me. (keep your eyes open for "the nerd mafia". it's gonna be so hot...)

so far, i've gotten a favorable response to my ideas and plans from just about everyone i've spoken with. i am just aglow with the exciting new possibilites and opportunities that are opening themselves up to me. i can see the light at the end of the tunnel...and it's solar powered.

so, the younger of the younger of the two boys that i nanny in the afternoons is home sick from school for the second day in a row, and since i currently have no other occupation to take up my morning hours, i went by the house this morning and got in some extra nanny hours $$$.

while we're deciding what to play next, my phone rings...and it's my dad. so unusual, especially since i just saw him at thanksgiving, and he's not the kinda dad who just gets in touch every so often to be all paternal and whatnot. so i answered the phone and got this news:

ON 29TH NOVEMBER 2006 AT 2:26AM, MY BROTHER'S WIFE GAVE BIRTH TO ONE NIA SIMONE WHITE. MY NIECE. YAY!!!

at first my dad told me that she was 11 lbs 6 oz, and my first concern was whether my sister-in-law survived the birth. later when i actually talked to my brother, he let me know that she was, in fact, 6lbs 11oz. mother and baby are both healthy and doing fine. my brother says nia is very cute, and gets cuter every time he looks at her. he is gonna be such the pushover daddy.

AND, this is made even cuter by the fact that my brother's son's birthday is 30th november. so his kids have, quite literally, back to back birthdays! come one, that's just adorable!

ALSO, my throat was kinda itchy all day. not hurting, just irritated. but i've not been out for karaoke for two weeks and i was experiencing some serious withdrawals. i was not to be deterred. so, i came home from work, lounged about a bit, and headed back into the city for pass-the-mic type festivities.

on the way up 2nd ave. from the subway stop, i spotted about four or five window panes leaning up against a fence...someone had put them out for garbage. we have a bit of a window fetish in our house. most recently we've used one to frame a set of paintings for eva's birthday. however, i was on my way to karaoke, so i just kept walking and said a little prayer that they'd still be there when i was on my way home *sigh*

karaoke kicked a**! AND, carol came out to play with us! yay! she left some john legend listening/release party to come and chill with rachael rock star and me at karaoke. how sweet is that?! she did, however, miss my last song (those in the know know just the one i mean)...something about needing to sleep and being home in bed by 2am. but she promised to catch it the next time she comes out to play. nonetheless, a good time was had by all. and the world can go on revolving now that i've had my fix.

so on the way home down 2nd ave, the windows weren't against the fence anymore, and i got a little discouraged. BUT they's just been moved to the edge of the sidewalk. so i hailed a taxi and politely explained that i needed him to open the trunk so that i could take the windows home. he was reluctant at first, but i'm very charming and that generally wins out...as it did tonight. there were four windows. two large and two very large. i could only get one of the large ones in the trunk and the other in the back seat with me. the to very large ones i left with a little piece of my heart at the edge of the sidewalk as i could not even get them in the door of the taxi *sigh*

but here i am. home and happy and with new windows for frames a song in my heart and a niece that i'm going to spend weekend after this with.

best day ever!

all moved into my new flat with my kick ass new flatmate, miss eva. the space is beautiful, but my bedroom needs to come to some sort of order. i have no gift for personal organisation. i'm trying really hard tho. i'm even going to home depot in the morning to get shelves and stuff! honest! i just want all the boxes to go away. it's been nearly a month already!

i love this place. and as you'll see from my new postings, there's no shortage of fun people and neighbor kids for me to point my camera at. i love it here.

in other news, the nanny gig is going pretty well. i'm still working with one family in the afternoons/early evenings. and i'm on the hunt for another family to work with in the mornings...i have an interview sunday afternoon, so wish me luck!

and two of my favorite people that i nearly never get to see are coming to visit soon. shanna is coming from london in november. kylie is coming out from hk again for christmas. and i'm expecting a new neice around thanksgiving time, so things are looking pretty exciting!

it's so strange after so much chaos and uncertainty, my life has bloomed into...well there's still uncertainty, but i like most of the surprises. not so chaotic anymore tho. it's nice. to just be. so 'm just being right now.

here's the update.
i'm moving out of my flat at the end of the month. and i do not as yet have another flat lined up. SO, i will be staying with some very kick a** friends thru the month of september. big ups to casey, xtina, and sharon for showing love and letting me kick it for a bit.

jobs: fashion is like my unruly boyfriend. we've been together for a long time, but i'm not so sure we're good for each other anymore. so, i'm not breaking up with fashion, but i'm not being exclusive anymore either. keep it casual.

so, i'm going back to my roots. i've taken two jobs nannying, which will keep me busy full time all week. i'm excited. the kids are super cute and fun!! kids yay!!! and this will leave me plenty of time to work on the novel and make clothes and stuff. just do the stuff that i like that inspires me.

and i went to a concert with my friend sharon this week and it kicked all kinds of a**!! definitely check out those photos. feel free to or add it to your mobile!!! enjoy!!

ahhh! new year. new friends. good times. this new year's eve was probably the best i've ever had...at least that i can remember. let me give you the highlights:

so, let's start with the who: sharon (my new favorite person - from my thursday singing class), shanna (visiting from london), and a random cast of extras and rotating special friends.

where: a few of sharon's friends in the process of moving out of their stellar times square penthouse decided to get rid of all the non-sittable furniture and throw a big party. so that's where.

when: duh, new year's eve and beyond

highlights: the party was so packed that the fire dept. came to supervise. now, even tho we all knew they came to shut us down, something about their suspenders or those cute hats just made all us girls swoon and let them right in. who can say why...i will say this tho: the FDNY is keeping that image of the cute, muscley fireman alive and well. GO TEAM!

went up to the rooftop deck to watch the ball drop in times square...it's a LOT smaller than it looks on television. who knew?

congratulations go out to shanna for being the first from our team to get some attention. GO GIRL! and yes, he was hotness. remember, just because he gave you his number doesn't mean you're obligated to call. telephones are for talking...you can talk to your girls! he doesn't necessarily need to talk. leave that memory intact just as it was...

i digress for a moment: i'd been working on a very nice pair of flaired leg trousers in pin striped denim and i finished them just in time for new year's eve. and kenya (my lovely roommate) helped me pick out the top that best conveyed my best qualities. so, when i left the house, i thought i looked pretty good. however, after having seen myself in a mirror some hours later, it became apparent to me that i was, in fact, devastatingly HOT!!! like fire! i'm just giving you the facts people.

so i give shout outs to MYSELF for also turning some heads that night. and also a hearty congratulations to the lovely few who i allowed to give me that attention. kudos! you succeeded where so many others have died trying. pat yourselves on the back! and be sure to leave a message if you call (precautionary call screening for the next week or so. you understand...).

and props to sharon because she is, even at this very moment, officially OVER the last one and is moving on to the NEXT. GO FOR YOURS GIRL! really. cuz we are tired of hearing about the old one.

we departed the festivities around 4am, so props to sharon yet again for letting shanna and me crash at her place and sleep until 5pm. and for not being cross with me for annexing half her pillow...if there's someone to snuggle, then i snuggle. it can't be helped.

another round of applause to sharon for taking us to that great asian fusion place to eat when we finally got hungry at 10pm. and AGAIN for forcing us to check out the lounge bar downstairs before leaving.

empty when we got there, save for dj london and his friend, and the bartender. the cute bartender who gave us free drinks (i try to only use my powers for good. again, devastatingly hot. even the next day). the space is really cool and the dj is really good...and tall and cute, blah, blah, blah, yakkety, shmakkety. i'm thinking of throwing my birthday party there in april. i'll be turning thirty, so it's gonna be a big deal (saluting my 20's with a "Roaring 20's" theme - period costumes highly encouraged. feel free to discuss amongst yourselves). and i may also ask dj london to spin for the event. early april. mark your calendars...

it's a weird time for me. i just feel like anything can happen right now. i just need to get off my a** and make it work.

but i still feel good. i'm doing a group exhibition in vancouver in january...i'm trying to talk into coming along. i've just started work on the pieces i'll be showing there. life can be so good sometimes.

anyway, i'm soooooooo looking for another job right now. if you are in the brooklyn, nyc area and you know somebody who needs a superfresh clothing designer/illustrator/pattern maker/tech designer/writer/whatever, feel free to just pass my info along to them. i actually am working full-time now, but i hate my job and i may kill my boss soon. for real. look for me on the 11 o'clock news. the situation's gettin serious. he fired my assistant, but he still calls me every five minutes to see if i can do this, that, and the other for him real quick. i only have two answers for his requests lately: 1) in a perfect world, yes. you could have that. the world is not yet perfect tho. and 2) that's one of those things i could do for you if i had an assistant...but since i'm doing the jobs of 8 people as opposed to the usual 5 people i cover, i just don't see it happening...sorry.

anyway, i have reasons for cheer nonetheless. i'm moving outta my crappy apartment!!! away from my slovenly roommate!!!! YAY!!! at first i was a bit pissed off with him. he told me he was gonna re-sign the lease and i could stay...then a couple of weeks ago, he says he stumbled onto a place closer to his girlfriend (read: the girl i stalked until she caved) and he wants to move out in july. so i was panicky, but all turned out well. thru a friend of my cousin's, i found a girl with a dope place for cheaper $$$$ and i'm moving in at the end of july. weirder still, the girl i'm moving in with used to do my job for my sheisty bastard of a boss!! how freakish is that? so random.

i'm going to miami for a trade show for my crappy job...turns out my brother's gonna be in orlando with my little nephew that same week, so i'm taking a couple of days off and i'm gonna hang out with them for four or five days. nuttin' but pool and sun and no work...oh hell yes!

and if all goes well, one of the many jobs to which i've submitted a resume will call me back, want me desperately, pay me obscene amounts of money (i'm so worth it), and i can quit the crappy job...and go to india with my cousin for a couple of weeks...and start the new job in september. wouldn't that kick a**?!! yeah, so pray on it for me, okay y'all.

as you know i shoot mostly on my nikon d70. i had a boatload of pix on my memory cards. i visited family. i saw friends i hadn't seen in ages. i met new people. i went out for my b-day. i saw zap mama perform at s.o.b.'s and took tons of pix there. so, finally, my memory cards were all full. i went down to kinkos to burn all my stuff to cd's (my roomie's cd burner wasn't feeling well). this is usually a time consuming process because my memory cards are large, so there are usually about 300 pix or so between the two of them. but this day it went quick.

quick like, i put my memory cards into the sony picture station machine, and it quickly erased all of the data on them.

funny huh?

not in so much of a great mood over that one.

on the up side, i did just buy a new bed. after having slept on futon on the floor for the last four or five years. i my bed. i have to argue with myself to get out of it in the morning. and all day at work, whenever i'm put off by something, i think about my bed and how great it's gonna be to see my bed when i get home.

and i get to go home in just 80 minutes! yay bed! after re-re-re-reading the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, i found that, apparently, all mattresses are named zem. so i call my bed zem. just thought you'd like to know. maybe i should post some pix. it's a nice bed...

well, let's see:

got a job...FINALLY! i start next week and i'll be getting paid a decent amount of money, too. which is good for many reasons, but mostly because the savings that i've been living off of for the last six months are just about dried up, and temping hasn't exactly made me a millionaire. so YAY job!

of course, this is all in accordance with prophecy...my birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks april 7th mark you calendars kids! and naturally, as my birthday approaches, so too comes my time of power! this is the name for the unexplained phenomena that causes the universe to bend to my will around the time of my birthday. happens every year, i swear!

other evidence that my time of power is at hand, you ask? well, i got to meet three really cool people from big ups to ,, and i had mad fun with all y'all. i hope we get together and get ridiculous some time again soon. also, while temping (shockingly enough), i made another cool artsy friend...all very exciting, yes.

so, that's my update. hope everyone out there is feeling good, cuz i am about to be SO much more pleased with my life in general.

it's about damn time! i've finally put in a little photoshop time in resizing stuff so it doesn't take a million years to load...and i have submitted! actually, i think everything i put up was taken back in october on my first trip to new york before i moved here...

and since then, you ask? well, i've got a roof over my head, and a bit of money in the bank. i have, however, yet to find employment or healthcare coverage of any kind. or friends. i don't know anyone in new york besides my grandma on long island...but i find i am so optimistic. leaps and bounds more optimistic than i have ever been in a similar situation. like the new year is coming and the world will open itself like and oyster and offer up its jewels to me.

i always say: when you want something bad enough, the whole universe will conspire to get it for you.

so, i've been in new york for a week now...i think my impatience is starting to show. i don't know what to do with myself. it's like i have eleventy-seven ideas swirling around in my head and i don't know where to start. i want to sit back and wait for my head to stop spinning so i can grab at a single idea...but i can't sit still! it's all so strange. practically the entire past year living in japan, i knew that i wanted to leave los angeles, and that i definitely wanted to relocate to new york. you know, closer to my family in boston...but not TOO close. and now i'm here...i know it's only been a week, but i feel like i should've accomplished something by now! anyway, in a couple of days they'll deliver my mega-bookshelf and i can finally unpack all of my stuff. maybe once my bedroom is in order, my state of mind will follow. let's all hope, huh?

i'm almost back. FINALLY i got an apartment in new york and i just moved in this past sunday. i'm subletting from a very nice girl who's an actor and she is (or may soon be) going on tour with a really big theatre show thing...so, i'm in her room and living with her roommate. it's nice to have my own room again (haven't had that in the last three months or so), but it'll be really good when i can have an apartment all to myself again. soon, soon.

here's all the news: okay, so i moved into my new digs in brooklyn on sunday. on tuesday i had a job inteview that i think went really well. i think it's in my nature to be pretty humble, in general, about my talents, whatever they may be. but if you ask me straight out, i may have to 'fess up and let you know that i am the shiznit. my point? i'm not 100% sure i have this job yet, but let's face it: i am very good at what i do and they NEED me.

so, it would seem that my life is on a bit of an upturn as of late. but then i'm not so sure. my experience with life is that nothing good ever happens without something bad happening to keep it company. so i've moved into an apartment in brooklyn (YAY!), but i've spent my first two days fumigating and disinfecting the bathroom and kitchen so that i don't have to be afraid to go into either room at night and turn on the light for fear of what may scurry across my path (YUCK!). now they're both clean and sanitized the way god intended, but i'm not sure if i can handle being the only one who ever cleans up, ya know? typical roommate stuff i guess. then there's the possibility of employment...if/when i get this job, i'll be employed and get benefits not too long thereafter. but it's a start-up fashion label and i'll be getting paid like i just graduated college. basically, not much. i think i'll still be living below the poverty line. of course, once we get into a couple of stores and do a little press, i'll get a raise and thing will get better. i guess i'm just used to planning for imminant disaster.

so, is it hot or is it cold? i can't tell...it's like when you stick your hand under a faucet and it takes a minute for your brain to get the message that the water's really hot and you should move your hand. your brain just registers the sensation, and it has to calculate a little to figure out if it's really, really hot or really, really cold...that's how my life feels right now. it could be really good, or i could be headed for something really bad. but only time will tell...and i just stand here waiting. trying to figure it all out.

hi hi. Sooooooooo....been a minute huh? well, i'm in boston. in september, i was lookin at this like "visiting" my family. now, it's damn near november, and i feel more like trapped here with my family. i'm stayin at my auntie's new house which is about the size of a postage stamp. she's a saint to let me crash, especially for a completely indeterminate amount of time.

i'm trying to get an apartment in new york (maybe a 4-6month sublet or something) to get a base of operations while i look for a job over there. the problem is, the longer i go without finding an apartment, the less money i have to find an apartment with. it's a vicious circle. how does one get a job to pay for an apartment to stay in while one looks for a job? i'm getting soooo depressed. i'm headed up to ny on the bus this week to look at a few places and hopefully, one of them will stick. hey, if you are a deviant in ny or know someone who is, and they need a roommate, holla at ya girl!!!

go back to your life. i'm finished depressing you now.

SO, been back in l.a. for about three weeks now. got the chance to see so many people that i've missed. i've taken a zillion pictures, but i just haven't had time to sort thru stuff and post. please be patient. in the meantime, i got a roll of b+w developed from my last sitting with miss yuri and put the best shot from that up. and i just went to a street fair (sunset junction) and took so many cool pix. i'll try to post some of those soon. and if you check out you can see some really old sketches i found while i was cleaning out my yokohama apartment.

last nite/this morning, i did what will probably be my last session with yuri for quite some time. all the stuff that i'm posting now/soon from that session was shot with artemis (my new nikon d70). i shot a roll of b+w with some multiple exposures, but those will have to wait until i am back in los angeles...until then, i hope you like the new stuff. so many of the shots came out so well, i'm struggling with myself to keep from over-submitting! until next time...enjoy

and exactly a week ago today, i bought myself a new camera. nikon d70. i've decided to call her artemis.

since i live in yokohama and am still not fluent enough in japanese or affluent enough with the cash to take classes, i cannot develop my own stuff and have been at the mercy of the crappy developer near my place, and the even crappier scanner at the school where i work. it's expensive and can be kind of a waste because even when you give specific written directions to the printer in english and japanese, they really don't give a damn and will not only do a shitty job on your prints but also over/underexpose your negatives to the point of uselessness. but now, in the bliss of the immediate gratification of reviewing my pix and only having to print the ones i really, really love, i have gotten back to my roots: as you could probably tell from my other site , this means i am back to stalking my pretty friends full time. good times. good, good times.

well, i finally have some new stuff to show. when it rains it pours. i did a sitting with my friend cynthia and fell in love with the b&w's. i take this as a small victory because i've been working really hard (with very limited resources) to improve my b/w skills. also included with these are a bunch of multiple exposure shots. i've been experimenting with multiple exposures, but aren't always thrilled with the results. as always, your comments and advice are greatly appreciated.

i had my little friend reiko over for a sitting. i wasn't overly thrilled with the results, but here are the few that i did like. they are really dark, and i kinda dig that about them. as always, i welcome your comments and advice. hopefully, she will consent to another sitting and i can make another attempt to capture her sweetness on film.

incidentally, i got some really nice shots of my friend cynthia while we were out on the town last week. i think i need to ask her to come down for a sitting. she photographs so well!
