I've been thinking, since I have a habit of analyzing myself, and have recently come to wonder why I love yaoi so much.

To tell you the truth, I'm not exactly sure why I am so attracted to it. I know it is my fetish; sexual relationships between boys are pretty much the only things that arouse me. I'm not attracted to girls. Breasts gross me out. My own anatomy grosses me out. I just can't enjoy a pairing when one of them is completely unattractive to me.

Due to past experiences, I am completely disgusted with any sexual relationship that would involve myself. I feel dirty and violated just when someone flirts with me. If I were ever to imagine sex between a man and a woman, there would always be the possibility that I'd briefly imagine myself in the woman's place, since I am a woman myself, and become sick to my stomach. I would lose interest immediately.

But my attraction for yaoi expands past sex. It's the love aspect that interests me also. I am a sucker for romance and fluff. I adore the idea of a slow building of trust, caring and eventually love. To tell you the truth, I wouldn't mind straight pairings built solely on love. But the fact that I can enjoy both a physical and emotional relationship between two guys is perfect for me.

A long time ago, up until perhaps I was 15 or 16, I disliked yaoi. It was unfamiliar to me. However I had always been okay with homosexuality anyway. I distinctly remember my dad having lesbian friends when I was 6 or 7 and I was curious but not disgusted at all. As I grew older I became angry and annoyed with homophobic people. I didn't understand why they would be so against two people who loved each other. I didn't even think about same-gender relationships being taboo.

I have always been a supporter of homosexuals, but that didn't mean I liked yaoi. When I got into fandom I was unfamiliar with yaoi so I avoided it. But after a while, I started to grow used to it and accepted it the same as het pairings. I really began to like yaoi once I realized I was starting to dislike het. At first I found it cute, then hot, then deep and meaningful (especially through RPing with friends). Some people write in their blogs that girls only like yaoi because it is taboo and thus forbidden, which a lot of people are attracted to. However that is not the case with me.

On the subject of femslash/yuri, I find it cute too purely on a love level. I don't like it the way I like yaoi, but I'm not against it. I've drawn shoujo-ai before (GaTR is my favorite femslash pairing ^w^), just as I've drawn heterosexual art (my characters Dessa and Jack).

As I've said before, I don't know the exact reason I like yaoi so much. But these reasons are the closest that may explain it. How about you? Any other crazy yaoi fangirls out there who'd like to share why they like it too? I'd love to hear other opinions. ^w^
