I've been so unproductive art-wise in the last few months because I've been playing City of Heroes/City of Villains with Wid and the gang. The gang quit about a month ago, but Wid and I are still playing. That game is super fun but the best feature of the game is the costume design though I think I'm starting to run out of ideas for costumes. Hehe. What's not so fun about the game is getting hit on by pedoes.

I also went out of the country for two weeks. We went to my cousin's wedding in Taiwan. I met up with my parents and we roamed around the island. We were super busy because dad had to meet lots of grandpa's former students and friends and conduct other family business. The whole trip was tiring but rewarding. It's always nice to be reminded how special Grandpa really was. The artists in his generation were interesting and talented people, yet he stood apart from the rest because of love for the Taiwanese people and his desire to help people through art and design.

And of course, I'm very satisfied with all the tasty food I had during the trip. Now back to eating all that deep fried, spicy Indo food. Bleah.

The idea is that every week a new topic is assigned and everyone has about two weeks to finish his/her drawing. We returned from Japan a few days ago. The trip was very tiring but super awesome. Wish we're still there. It wasn't really a life altering trip or anything (Greece was to me), but we had a wonderful time and took plenty of pictures. Surprisingly we didn't buy that many souvenirs.

I finished Professor Layton a few days ago so expect some fanarts soon. Haha.

Zelda Anthology
*AngelP and I gathered a bunch of people back in November of 2007 to start ZAP! The Zelda Anthology Project. We have some awesome, super talented people in the group, such as *afuji *AngelP ~amigurumi ~Cadychan *Chibi-Rinku *crazys ~GreenWiggly ~ladyjenise *nna ~PonytailedSlacker ~themisssinglink ~wlesmana, and we're very excited about the book. We are close to the end and we hope to debut our book 13 Rupees at Otafest and Anime North (mid-May). 1. I managed to travel by myself through the Peneloponnis for about a week.
2. The first time I tried to bake using the metric system, I failed miserably. It was a black forest cherry cake and the time was 8th or 9th grade. I've never tried to make the cake again though I still remember how yummy-looking was the picture in the cookbook.
3. Ironically, my mother-in-law turns out to make one of the best black forest cherry cake in Bali now I can have that cake whenever I want.
4. My paternal grandfather was a pretty famous, multi-talened artist in Taiwan. My main reason for drawing is because of him.
5. I've been inside of churches/cathedral, temples, and mosques, but I'm not religious in anyway.
6. Australia used to be on my list of most wanted to visit place, but I went to Perth earlier this year.
7. Now Petra (in Jordan), France, and Japan are top on the list.
8. My whole family loves tennis and seafood, except me.

May has been super busy for me. I took care of my friends and guests from outside of the country. More people came to visit from Jakarta. I finished redoing my comic and sent it away. Now I can get back to drawing again. Hopefully, I'll finish some of my FFXII fanarts, but right now Twilight Princess is holding my attention.

Still finishing drawings and stuff. A bunch of them are still Slam Dunk related, but I'm cutting down a bit on the fanarts (and drawing in general) so I can shift gear back towards my own comics...

- Character exchange with ~maru- I did finish Sendoh, but I STILL have to start drawing Youhei.
- Maki in his ultra unfashionable clothes for *inui. Now it turned into Maki in suits making innuendoes. Done!
- Since I'm drawing something for Maru, it wouldn't be fair if ~ameli doesn't get a drawing too. OMG, I'll need to draw Rukawa again! Since I know :edvyunpilshim: and ~Fiesan like Rukawa too, it can be their present too! :3 Still at sketches phase. XD Done!
- Fujima pic for my cousin (I think I actually rather draw Hanagata?! but but, I don't even like them!). Oops, better do this one before she comes to visit at the end of the month. Finished! but she wants moooooore! *sobs*
- For ~chuwei, a SD fanart. For some other person who's not in DA, "grown up Kogure." A lot of work still needs to be done
- More birthday presents... (1, 2, 3)
- Still want to draw the Shohoku team. Whenever... (need Miyagi, Sakuragi, and Akagi)

Being pretty productive recently but not in the right place. I should have finished writing my short story and thumbnailed the whole thing by now, but instead I've been drawing fanarts. Lots of them. Oh well. Good practice in some ways, I suppose. At least I'm out of the drawing slump, and I'm getting back that desire to draw comics too. I think my breaks from the short story will consisted of doing more fanarts and inking Down.

I've also been reading too much comics recently. I read the four volumes of Real by Inuoe Takehiko, the complete Rose of Versailles, and four volumes of Full Metal Alchemist. Running Figures was drawn around Monday.

I also did two Slam Dunk fan art. I'm thinking about cleaning the drawings up and inking them, which is why I didn't upload them in the deviation gallery.
Rukawa was drawn first (I like the pose but he looks so mean).
Kogure was second (he looks chipper).

I'll talk about my comic instead. Unfortunately, I've been in a bit of a slump recently. I don't know why I lost my motivation to draw comics. Well, actually I know; outside pressure that's beyond my control is causing me stress. Funny thing is reading a good story always get me motivated again. I don't feel like finishing pages right now, but it's gotten me to think about my stories.

I've been working on Down but Not Out for over three years. The part of the story was thought out a few years ago (Yes, I'm slow at drawing) and since then I've been pondering about the direction of the story. I still have a couple of big surprises that I haven't gotten to, but after that the story was a blur, until now.

The way I set the story up, I can see it going in different directions--drama, slice of life, romance, but it could also go to food and even sport comic (Jon runs and does TKD). It won't go into action since I can't draw action to save my life. I want to lighten up the story a bit, but unfortunately, right now is not the right time. I admit I'm not a funny person so my attempt at humor usually falls flat. Thinking about the story in a new direction is helping me figure out more plot/scenes for the story, and I'm happy to finally be able to break through that dilemma. I also want to improve my characters. Mainly, I need to make Jon less of a wimp. Hahaha. Oh, he'll have his chance... At least his neck is no longer pencil thin. XD

I noticed that my attitude towards drawing comics have changed. Before I used to be able to sketch 5-10 pages in a week or so, but now it takes me longer and longer to just doing the thumbnail. I think I'm being overly cautious and I need to get that excitement of drawing back. I shouldn't be afraid of failures and mistakes. I need to put less pressure on myself.

Instead of doing art work, I've been redesigning my main art gallery. I finished it sometime last week, but I still have to get the blog thingie to work so I can post my updates there. I actually had two versions of the design, but I picked the one that's online because it's just more pleasing to the eye. I like the new design better than my previous brown bird version because it's cleaner and the codes are simpler. Feel free to check it out and let me know what you think.
