30 Ways to Distinguish Hip Hop from Rap

While the terms Hip Hop and Rap mayhave been synonymous back in the 70's, 80's and early 90's, the termswere separated at the hip at some point during the mid 90's.
Wildstyle. Buy it Here.

To Old School listeners of the genre, Hip Hop wasnot only a musical mix of beats and rhymes, but it also includedgraffiti writing, break dancing, and deejaying. New School rappers and Pop culturemistakenly use the term Hip Hop to describe the urban contemporarymusic that bares a slight resemblance to Hip Hop. Confused? Listedbelow are 30 examples that may help one distinguish between what istruly Hip Hop and what is indeed Rap:

1. Hip Hop is MCs and DJs. Rap is rappers and Pro Tools producers.

2. Hip Hop is B-boys, B-girls, Scoob & Scrap Lover, and Big Lez. Rap is booty dancers, strippers, and robotic routines taught in Fame-like dance studios.

3. Hip Hop is music. Rap is entertainment.

4. Hip Hop is the love of urban culture. Rap is the love of money.

5. Hip Hop is graffiti writers. Rap is graphic designers.

6. Hip Hop is speaking the unspoken. Rap is speaking the spoken over and over again.

7. Hip Hop music gracefully ages over the course of time. Rap goes platinum and no one remembers it.

8. Hip Hop is battling on the microphone. Rap is cowardly battling in the streets.

9. Hip Hop is Yo MTV Raps. Rap is Sucker Free Sundays.

10. Hip Hop is Andre of Outkast. Rap is Andre 3000 of Outkast.

11. Hip Hop is art conscious. Rap is image conscious.

12. Hip Hop is college radio and Saturday night mix shows. Rap is your city’s V103 and Hot 97.

13. Hip Hop is the Flavor Unit. Rap is the G-Unit.

14. Hip Hop is MTV refusing to play "street music" in the 80’s. Rap is MTV playing more “street music" than rock.

15. Hip Hop is variety. Rap is monotony.

16. Hip Hop is writing what you feel. Rap is chanting what sells.

17. Hip Hop is female MCs and DJs. Rap is female strippers.

18. Hip Hop is Queen Latifah’s “Ladies First.” Rap is Shawna’s “Getting’ Some Head.”

19. Hip Hop is sweating out your perm from dancing so much. Rap is sitting down the entire time because your Manolo Blahnik's are uncomfortable.

20. Hip Hop is sweating through your rayon or silk shirt while dancing. Rap is holding up the wall, mean-mugging in your button-up.

21. Hip Hop is a creative art. Rap is a formula.

22. Hip Hop is scratching on records. Rap is scratching on CDs.

23. Hip Hop is bragging about your skills on the Mic. Rap is bragging about record sales, cars, and jewelry.

24. Hip Hop tells the world about all that is wrong in the Hood. Rap glorifies all that is wrong in the Hood.

25. Hip Hop is Wild Style, Beat Street, Krush Groove, and Style Wars. Rap is Get Rich or Die Tryin’.

26. Hip Hop is the first Hip Hop Grammy winner boycotting the ceremony due to the Grammy's disrespect of the genre. Rap is throwing a temper tantrum because you didn't win "Album of the Year."

27. Hip Hop is establishing yourself by battle rapping and performing in front of anyone who will listen. Rap is establishing yourself by "Making the Band."

28. Hip Hop is Kurtis Blow. Rap is Curtis Jackson.

29. Hip Hop is an MC storytelling. Rap is a rapper telling a story.

30. Hip Hop is Puff Daddy of Uptown Records. Rap is Diddy of Bad Boy Records.

by Lamont Barnes at [link]

Dec 13th it is and you are all invited. Skateboard artworks by 22 artists and 3 djs going hand to hand with their skills at the East Side Lounge, log on to the official site for more info and directions: manoamanoartshow.com or give me a call: 404.695.5769 and lets get a drink.

Skateboards
I knocking them out as fast as i can. I have over 30 ideas and only two hands! I try to do at least a couple a week. I have almost ten online and I'm getting ready to upload a few more this week. just in time for the skateboard artshow. check out the decks: visualartwerks.com

Tattoos
Its the slow time of the year for tattoos. it gets cold and folks wanna wear warm clothing, so they dont care about getting new ink. So I made myself available to come to their home or event and liven up their skin! why not? plus its fun to have a tattoo dude come to you and hang out with your friends. I'm still tweaking the site, but check what I have so far: tattoopartys.com

WebDesign
And I'm still on the graphic tip as much as possible. What I like about doing graphic design is that I get to do what I love from the comfort of my own home. I dont even have to comb my hair (the little hair i got left). in any case, i'm running a special holiday promotion for web design. any of you artists who are ready to have your very own web presence come on thru, I hook u up. denominatorgraphics.com

and no time for my personal artwork lately. I'm gonna work smarter to give myself time for my own projects. I have a lot of ideas and sketches and everytime someone sees my work, the first question out their mouth is: when are you doing your own comic book? or, you should do animation.
I wish I had the time. but I promise myself that comics, animation and storytelling will be part of my life before I turn 40. I got a little less than 4 years to go. whew!

drop me a line people, let me know when you come out to the ATL.

But thats cuz dacreativegenius stays busy!

The theme is skateboards.
the point is to have artwork that reflects the culture and styling of skateboards. That is accomplished in one of three ways.
One: paint on a skate deck. Blank decks are available at skate escape on piedmont road for 35.00. add your design to that and its a done deal.
Two: do your artwork on paper or computer (illustrator or Photoshop) with the dimensions: 8 x 32. Then create an account and upload your artwork to boardpusher.com and u can get your finished board for 45 dollars plus shipping. BEST DEAL.
Or: you finish your artwork in a 8x32 and I will order your board for 80.00 total (cost of board and shipping) and you don’t have to get set up any account.
Three: paint or draw a picture on any material that has to do with skateboards.

Prices. I want to see the boards fly off the wall for xmas. So I suggest you price your boards/artwork accordingly. A lot of artwork from the November show has sold because it was affordable. I plan on making the boards affordable for the public.
Here are my suggestions and only a suggestion. You are allowed to name your price- just be aware that it may not sell and you will take it back home.
Boards: $125.00 - $200.00
original canvas: 350.00 max
prints: 150-250.00 depending on paper used and frame.

If you are interested in participating, get started with the artwork and send me the following information ASAP.
NAME. PHONE NUMBER. EMAIL ADDRESS AND WEBSITE.

I have to have the flyer and poster done by Thursday so hit me back IMMEDIATELY.

Thank you.
--
DTM - creativegenius
404.695.5769
dtmkal@denominatorgraphics.com

official site: [link]
DTM designed skateboards: [link]
myspace page: [link]
online gallery artwork: [link]
twitter: visualartwerks

Harcore Urban Hip-Hop
By the Denominator

YES! The Rhythm the Rebel, without a pause I’m lowering my level,
the hard rhymer, where you never been, I’m in.
Public Enemy/Chuck D

The Hip-Hop of my youth is dead. Just cuz I still listen to it and there’s a handful of Hip-Hop artists still makin music don’t mean Hip-Hop is still alive. Hip-Hop was the voice of my generation, was the music of the streets, was the attitude of self-preservation and survival.

The music of today in the radio and television is a representation of greed and humiliation. Hip-hop was a way of life, a cultural movement where art and talent were the proof of those truly skilled. The DJ has gone by the way of mp3 playin jokesters, the B-boy put away his cardboard and now roots for who he thinks can dance on television and the MC has passed the mic to the white-t wearing, grill shining-pant drooping-show your underwear ‘gangsta/playa’ and the Graff Artist put down his can and started pressing t-shirts for 30.00 a shirt!

There’s still Hip-Hop music being made today in 2008, but the Hip-Hop culture is dead. The youth of today don’t know who Mandela is, who Malcolm x was nor do they care that 26 inch rims are a waste of money. Greed has taken over the culture we once knew as Hip Hop and infused it with the basics of the music industry: money, profits and exploitation. Now it’s about moving units, showing big-booties on TV, empty-headed award shows and soul-less music conferences, ring-tones and wallpapers.

Where’s the love? The unity and sense of community in our music has been lost by exploitation and greed. Let Hip-Hop go, Hip-Hop is dead. That time has come and gone. Hip-Hop survived decades, as part of a way of life, that way of life is no more. Pay respect to the past but the time has come to live in the present and look for ways to shape our future.

Arguments about what Hip-Hop is and isn’t does not turn back the clock. We are the Hip-Hop generation; our time has passed and let the youth of today define their own time. It’s their turn to express themselves however they see fit. It is their right, just as it was our right to define our time.

I’m still a Hip-Hop head, I was a part of Hip-Hop and I enjoyed Hip-Hop. To me, Hip-Hop was about empowerment, about upliftment, about brotherhood and progress. And if you’re from the west coast, then it’s also about getting your gang-bang on the streets. Respect, power and honor are the code on the streets, and that’s the code of Hip-Hop.

Hip-Hop was my theme music as I grew up in East L.A. Hip-Hop was my theme music as I trained with the Marines and later, Hip-Hop was my theme music as I did my 2 ½ year bid mean muggin muthaphukkas as a way of life behind bars.

I lived my life hardcore, and Hip-Hop was hardcore, I lived my life mean and merciless, Hip-Hop is mean and merciless. I’m a product of the inner city, a soldier in urban warfare, a victim of the war on drugs; I’m the ugly shit that grows in the underbelly of a fucked up American society…. And so is Hip-Hop. Hip-Hop was never pretty, never about the flash, never about the material world.

I never owned Hip-Hop and no one ever would. To think that Hip-Hop has been taken away from us is to believe that Hip-Hop was somehow ‘ours’. You can’t take the oxygen from the air, or the rain from the water. Hip-Hop is a mentality and attitude not a jingle on a TV commercial. No one owns Hip-Hop; I merely participated in it and I give thanks to the Most High for the opportunity to have witnessed history in the making.

Hip-hop is like a painting technique, or basketball. Sure someone takes credit and some market the culture, but Hip-Hop was here before we got here and will still be here long after we are gone. Hip-hop is another word for culture, rhythm, music, life, joy & pain. And as long as humans exist, Hip-Hop will live on.

Hip-Hop Is Dead! Long Live Hip-Hop!
… pay your respects muthaphukkah…..

I got so much trouble in my mind, refuse to lose!….
….It’s weak to speak and blame somebody else, When you destroy yourself….
My Home Is Your Home…. Welcome to the Terrordome!

Chuck D/Public Enemy – Welcome to the Terrordome

(for the upcoming artshow in atlanta next month....
how are you? life is smoothly rolling along thank you for asking. my subscription has run its course and i must say, ads on my screen is not a bad thing.
I have been really busy with my graphic design projects. I started hanging out at a local high school talking to kids about graphic design at their graphic communication class. its fun talking bout what I really love to do. I tell them how I've been drawing all my life, how it took years to learn photoshop and illustrator, and how nowadays I can wake up anytime I want and walk into my home office and start working. I dont deal with rush hour traffic, I dont deal with difficult co-workers or office politics.
it was over a week ago that I spent the day speaking to the kids (not much of a kid, they grown high schoolers, 9th grade to 12 grade.... dammit, I feel really old. I graduated from H.S. back in 1990!) and I told them that I would do their assignment just to show them how easy graphic design was. if you look at my latest three deviations, you will see the finished assignments:

[link]
[link]
[link]

please let me know what you think, take a look at the rest of my work and enjoy!

:iconalienyouthct : :iconallytha : <img class="avatar" src="http://a.deviantart.com/avatars/a/m/amatuerpornstar69.jpg" width="50" height="50" alt=":iconamatuerpornsta...

atten-hut! creativegenius on deck!

and so it is....

another year, 2008. Sorry folks, i've been too busy to add to my journal. Too busy to -figure out how to re-work the page layouts and this collect feature.

But here goes a lil of whats been on my mind lately:

the stealing of artwork off of DA. thats the risk we take when we post our artwork in a public forum. better yet, thats the risk with the internet. Everything in life comes at a price.
So the question becomes: do I post and have someone rip it off, or do I keep my artwork to myself?
As long as there has been artistic talent, there has been copy-cats, rip-off situations and straight jackin!
Here's my personal short story:
I first began doing tattoos at this tattoo shop we'll call TBS. In the beginning, TBS had your usual fare of tattoo designs (flash. no, not website flash, not the adobe/micromedia flash. but flash, the designs that folks look at to decide on their own tattoo) on the wall. While at TBS, I drew over a thousand flash ideas in less than two years. I did those tattoo designs on people, and the other tattoo artists who worked there also created their own flash to post on the wall.
Two years later the working environment deteriorated to the point that I felt physical harm was next. So I along with the other artists there at TBS decided to jump ship.
So the question became: do we take our artwork off the walls and take it with us, or do we just leave it for TBS to profit after we are gone?
Hm, sure anyone else to who does a tattoo based on my flash will directly profit, but then again, they wont be able to do with the design what I could do. There's only one DTM!
ok then, years later I saw a couple of people with my design and it looked like crap! whoever stuck that tattoo on them didn't know what they was doing....
So, we left the artwork. We didnt get any compensation for it, we didnt ask for any either. We were willing to take a loss just to get the hell out of there.

But it wasnt much of a loss! cuz I'm still the Creative Genius... I'm DTM with or without my artwork. I started drawing for the love, not the profit or copyrights.

Fine. you say: "that works for you DTM, you the shit! what about me, doesnt the law protect me?"
Yes, the law offers protection to those who use the law. First you have to copyright or trademark your work. and not that poor-mans-copyright deal where you send your artwork to yourself. I'm talking bout the Library of Congress. The courts and mess of lawyers are willing to listen to you and me (the little people, artists, rebels!) when we have official government paperwork. not a postage paid envelope with some scribbles.... (my stuff is not scribbles!)

take it easy.... shortie!

ok, now here goes another short story, or really, a dream I had one time.
I dreamt I was in a large auditorium (like in high school, where there's a bunch of seats and a stage) and it was filled with artists. on the stage was a long table with some people looking thru our artwork. I got the sense that I was at a contest and that the winner would get a contract of some kind for future artwork. ok.
As I'm sitting there I decide to go to the bathroom. As I leave, I figure that it would take a long time to go thru the artwork and I wont miss anything if I hurry.
I come back thru the doors of the auditorium and realize that everyone is gone! dammit... I figured I didnt win since I never heard my name. ok. so i walk up to the stage where there was a few people milling about as I wanted to see who's artwork had won.
To my surprise, my artwork was the winner!
and to my astonishment, some other dude was taking credit for it and saying that he was me!
what?!
My thought was: "how is this dude going to produce this work on demand and not look like my work? he's gonna get found out quick. he's gonna get fired. He's Fkkn Up!"
at no time did I feel offended, nor did I want to jump in and demand someone to recognize my talent.
My dream ended on the thoughts of this dude lying about skillz that werent his.

And thats all I have to say about this rip-off subject. you have the talent, the creativity and imagination to continually create. Dont get bent out of shape if someone 'steals' your work. If thats a problem for you, copyright it or leave it off the internet. There's a con-man and a thief around every corner....

Now on to my only other subject: TAGGING!!!

I've been tagged by i have to do the following:

1. Post these rules.
2. Write 8 random facts of thyself.
3. Post these things in a Journal/Blog.
4. In the end, tag and name 8 more peo...

First... Got an art exhibit along with a few other artists. its on the 8th of February at the EastSide Lounge. Its a mix of DJ's playing records (in this day and age of cds and ipods, I'm not sure I've seen a DJ with a record lately) and a buch of art all over the place!
If u anywhere near the Atlanta area or beyond and wish to attend, let me know, we'll get a drink!

Second... I have suggested this kind of art exhibits to a few DA folks. Try It! it works. you'll be surprised at the amount of people who come out to an event like this. Some folks will come out for the art, some for the music, and everybody will have a good time. There's no guarantee they are gonna buy something, but if you are like me, I do mostly commissions and I pass out hundreds of business cards, stickers and make myself known thruout the whole nite.... HUSTLE!!!

last... here are the links to,
my myspace page with the flyer : [link]
the dj crew who organizes this event monthly, rare form DJ crew on myspace :[link]

ps. there are several exhibits like this all over the city. Another event I suggest anyone interested in art should attend is Art Mondays @ Apache Cafe'. Very nice place, weekly event. over a hundred artists come out every monday, dozens of djs and live models!

first and foremost the Divine Creator...for being the first to create the Universe and things therein and bring to life my existence and for giving the power to create!

Second is my family and friends of my childhood... sunababitches!!! watcha'll got to say now, fuckers?! for not believing in me. for the abuse and ridicule I suffered under their hands as I struggled to draw and became interested in art as a serious profession. all that bullshit gave me the will to one day be successful at this drawing thing...

Third is All the Artists who I have crossed paths with during my lifetime.. whether it be in person, thru comic books, or online...ya'll muthaphukas have enriched my life and given me the inspiration and courage to follow my inspirations! thank you!

Fourth, (and if it wasn't for the Divine Creator, this man would be number one) Funkydoodler. He told me about this site many a time. I would not listen to his suggestions of joining this site. I found the whole idea narcissistic, meaning right up my alley, and a waste of time online...I Was Wrong! I havent wasted my time on this site. I have been inspired and learned many things from my contact with artists thru this site. I admit, I'm very narcissistic, but it dont take an online community to get me to brag about my skills!

Fifth, (according to Dave Chappelle's character... Tron: fif!) My mother, she should be number two, but she's halfways mixed in with the non-believers, so she gets her own place for giving birth to me and raising my crazy Aztec-Warrior ass! Half the gray hairs she got now...I put them in her hair! My brother gave her the other half...he's an artist also. But my Mother always nurtured me as best as a single mother could. I'm a Man and an Artist for you Madre!

And last but not least, my hands, my fingers and my arms! dammit hands, we did this thing together! and we are no where near finished!!!

Yeah yay!!

I dont know if I'm the only one, but I seem to a have a problem with sticking to one drawing at a time. I try, I really do. I try to start a design and see it thru to the end. But somehow I get sidetracked by an idea, inspiration or I simply get tired of the current drawing.

Here's what I'm talking about...I love pencils. ok. so I sketch an idea, two three ideas, then I set up to complete one drawing, I clean the sketch, tighten the lines, add some shading. done. then I decide to do an ink version cuz I wanna color it. but by the time I do the inks, I'm tired of the drawing!

Or I'll decide to do a vector drawing (I got about 15 different vectors that are in various stages of imcompletion), get my outline together, add in some detail, and then by the time its time to color it, I dont! I want to. Here at DA I see alot of awesome work that moves me to get on with my own, but somehow I lose interest on what I'm working on.

Maybe its cuz I never took art classes, I know some classes involve assignments with deadlines. thats what I hear and that's what I understand from seeing lots of school portfolios. So since I've never had the pressure to complete all my artwork..I don't.

Tattoos are a whole different animal. folks ask me for designs, I half sketch them, they approve and I stick it on 'em. done. but on skin, once you start...u gotta finish. That's the only time I really have to finish a piece thru.
Or if I'm getting paid for a graphic job. But those are easy. I got a CD layout and a Website that I'm working on. No sweat. I dont even have to pay attention. the image is decided upon by the client and the text is approved. I just have to make it look good....easy money!

I'm gonna have to play mind games with my skills...pretend that the current piece is a tattoo. Pretend that I have a client sitting here with me waiting on me to finish the piece...yeah. I think I'll do that. I hope it works cuz I'm tired of seeing good ideas sit on my desk. I have boxes and boxes of incomplete work all over my house. dammit!

What would really help me out would be three more arms, make it four. even number. then I could work on several pieces at the same time! I can work on several things at the same time already, but I have to alternate with the same hand...right handed. sometimes I use my left hand at the same time, but I cant draw with my left.

oh well, somebody tell me I aint crazy. maybe I should've taken the art classes back in high school. nah! fukdat! I hate school....

I draw gorillas. The current encarnation of my alter ego is a gorilla...Denominator is his name. I really like the image of a gorilla to represent me.

To me it reminds me of humanity's long ago pre-history (this is the part where I define "history" His-Story...the conqueror always writes his-story as fact. So in this modern day and age, we don't necessarily know the whole story of the world, and what little we do know....may not be the truth.) The gorilla is a part of human history, the basics of human history. It is a part of us, as we are a part of the rest of the ecological system we call earth...we all are part of the whole and are somehow related to each other.

Before I get into the real reason for this journal...I have to say that I am not here to preach Evolution nor Creation. That is not my point right now. I am open to discussing these subjects, but that's not why I'm writing this journal.

Evolution is a forbidden word to some of the population of this earth. Any mention of monkeys is taken as an insult or dehumination of a particular race. As a great man once said: "we need to get over this shit!" Right! If it's true or not, if we were once monkeys or not...whatever! get over it. agree or disagree, but let it go!

Now back to Denominator (my gorilla)...I like to think of it as back-to-basics mentality. The gorilla reflects a part of me and what has been going on in my life these past two years.

Without getting into much detail, changes have happened in my personal life, in my business life and in my artistic life to the point that now I only have an artistic life. I look at the situations that led me in this direction as blessings. A reminder to get back to something that was pretty much my all. And thats what Denominator is all about...Back To Basics.

Back to the one thing in my life I have complete control over...my art. Art is the one constant in my life, for over 30 years! my first memories involve pencils and paper.

Lets get back to that, art for art's sake. Sure we all gotta make a living (I still do tattoos, graphic design and etc to pay the bills), sure we all have an opinion (on love, on family, on honesty and trust), but Art is for the love of it! And that's what I'm about right now. I draw for the thrill and pleasure of the drawing...sometimes I do get carried away and look for acceptance from other artists, but the fun is in the art.

So I drew Denominator in a pose made classic by Malcolm X. And one of my first thoughts was: "will people give my drawing a chance once they see its a gorilla there standing where Malcolm X would be standing?" and lo and behold, someone here brought it up but from my point of view! whew!

But why do we have thoughts like that? Why are some of us in this world so sensitive to some idea or opinion that we disagree with? Wars are started this way...hmm.

Anyways, my gorilla...the Denominator...is about me and my life. I'm focused on art. my first love. my best friend. my confidant. my...uh dats enough!

focus...

Uh, Fresh to def she is
From her steps ta the set she is
So "death" might not let me live
Ya dig
Fresh uh huh, yes she is
Had a feelin that is would be a day like this
The orchestra in my mind dont play like this (naw),
But I'm prepared for it
Got a lil rare for it
Brushed off my airs
Even cut my hair for it
Cause normally I dont care for it
Dont even be looken for like, like that
Then there go it
Yea right over there so I prepare the poet
Lil scared my stair lowered
Momma said have no fear
Plus I'm already outta my chair
God love my airs on my square from here forward
It's nuthen right so here go it
Whisper in the air "its kinda crowded in here"
Would she care to blow it she said "yea"

[chorus]
Your my sunshine (your my sunshine),
Your my moonlight (your my moonlight),
Your the stary skies above me wont you please come down and hug me,
Cause I found love in this girl tonight (Wowowowo)

Never met her before
But I think I like her like a metaphor
It's hard ta get in the car we sit
From the intro she rolled down her window just incase some was a skit
So I compliment her on the common sense
I'm calm
A lil more confident (Uh Huh)
And then we lose consciousness
She says "that I've been waiten for you"
And I know you been chasen me too since they kidnapped me from a castle
I been thinken of you
I told a firebreathen dragon "he bet not harm me" or he be sorry when he meets my one man army
And thou has come ta rescue me
My knight in shinen armor yes you be
Woken up by the horn of an SUV
I said "see, too beautiful to let you sleep"

[chorus]

Relationship is just 30 minutes long
It's kinda heavy maybe a lil strong
"Go and take" much more than once
Can't trust what each of us say at least for a month
Or two before I bid you a due
Do this one thing for me outta the trillions and numbers thats in the world
Just leave me a few that lead to you
Won't be longin I see you in the mornen

and now my favorite, I think he's talking about the tv? I dont know, someone help me out here...
The Instrumental by Lupe Fiasco

[Lupe Fiasco]
Uhh.. yeah
He just sits, and watches the people in the boxes
Everything he sees he absorbs and adopts it
Heeeeee mimics and he mocks it
Really hates the box but he can't remember how to stop, it
Uhh, so he continues to watch it
Hopin that it'll give him somethin that he can box with
Or how the locksmith, see the box as, locked in the box
Ain't got the combination to unlock, it
That's why he watch-es, scared to look away
Cause at that moment, it might show him
What to take off the locks with
So he chained hisself to the box, took a lock and then he locked it
Swallowed the combination and then forgot, it
As the doctors jot it all down, with they pens and pencils
The same ones that took away his voice
And just left this instrumental, like that

[Chorus: Josh Matranga + (Lupe)]
And he never lies (he never lies, he never lies, uhh)
And he never lies (uhh, he never lies, he never lies, no)
And he never lies (he never lies)
Cause he never said anything at all

[Lupe Fiasco]
He just sits, and listens to the people in the boxes
Everything he hears he absorbs and adopts it
Anything not comin out the box he blocks it
See he loves to box and hope they never stop it
Anything the box tell him to do, he does it
Anything it tell him to get, he shops and he cops it
He protects the box, locks it in a box
when he goes to sleep, but he never sleeps
Cause he stays up to watch it, scared to look away
Cause at that moment, it might get stolen
And that's the last of the boxes
So he chained hisself to the box, took a lock and then he locked it
Swallowed the combination and then forgot, it
As the doctors jot it all down, with they pens and pencils
The same ones that took away his voice
And just left this instrumental, like that

[Chorus]

[Lupe Fiasco]
(Anything at all..) He never lies
Uhh, and you can't tell me just who you are
You burn them flows just to hide those scars
You built that roof just to hide those stars
Now you can't take it back to the start
And you can't tell me just who you are
You burn them flows just to hide those scars
You built that roof just...

With a newspaper, you can browse thru the stories til u find what interests u. I guess I could do that online too, the internet age whatnot, but I'm used to reading the paper. been doing it for a long time, I'm an old guy.
Anyways, here I am reading the editorial section of the AJC-Atlanta's local paper, The Atlanta-Journal Constitution. Good writing by the way, not good at being funny. U want funny? read the Creative Loafing. That's Funny! Smart Funny!
again, anyways, back to the point of this journal entry...I'm reading the editorials and come up on this column. I like Leonard Pitts' writing. I enjoy the opinions of others, even if I dont agree. I like to hear a good logical arguement...but dammit! this shit was funny! I agree with it, and his angle on the disparities between men and women are just too damn funny.

so without further ado...the column. My respects to all writers, thinkers, philosophers, artists, and women; all peoples of higher intellect!
LEONARD PITTS JR.: Need an ER? Not until game's over
BY LEONARD PITTS JR.
KNIGHT RIDDER NEWSPAPERS

October 17, 2006 (he wrote it yesterday, but it was on the paper today)

Today, we're going to administer an IQ test. One question only. Here's the scenario.

Let's say you get hurt at home. Let's say you cut off a favorite appendage with a hedge clipper or fall victim to the old step-on-a-rake gag. Let's say you have chest pains, stomach cramps, bruises, contusions and lacerations. Let's say your forehead is hotter than Eva Longoria in August. In Phoenix. In a bikini. A really small bikini. Fresh from the pool, her skin moist and giving you that pouty, saucy look the way she does, and . . . and . . .

I'm sorry, what were we talking about?

Oh, yeah. You fall ill at home. What would you do? Did you say get to the emergency room immediately?

Oooh, sorry. Wrong answer.

In fact, that answer reveals something about you. Namely, that you are a woman. And therefore that you are -- sorry, ladies -- less intelligent than your average man.

See, your average man would have answered the question with a more important question: At the time of this hypothetical illness or injury, is there a ballgame on television? Assuming the answer was no, he would, indeed, get to the ER with all due haste. Assuming, however, the answer was yes, he would, using his superior intellect, choose to wait until the game was over, and only then rush to the emergency room.

Ladies, you wonder what the heck I'm talking about, right? My enhanced intelligence predicted your confusion. Well, last week, CNN juxtaposed (that means to place side-by-side for contrast or comparison) two fascinating stories on its Web site. One was Dr. Sanjay Gupta's report on a study by Dr. J. Philippe Rushton, who, after analyzing SAT scores of 100,000 teenagers, claims that males are, on average, 3.6 IQ points smarter than females.

The other was an AP story on research by a medical doctor named David Jerrard. He crunched statistics of visits to an emergency room in Baltimore and found that, during telecasts of NFL games, Major League Baseball games, or games involving University of Maryland football or basketball, the number of men coming in to the ER drops precipitously. Immediately after the game goes off, ER visits by men spike by 40%.

Now you might, if you are a woman, question the idea that anyone who puts off seeking needed medical attention to watch a game can be described as intellectually superior. I would only say, ladies, that jealousy is not a very attractive trait. (what!)

I mean, we are talking about the gender that invented the beer hat and the giant foam finger and made "Jackass" a multimillion-dollar franchise, the gender that had the foresight to put girls on trampolines and refrigerators in recliners, the gender whose members can often be found on a frigid day standing in the stadium, screaming their throats raw and pounding hairy, shirtless chests painted in the colors of very large millionaires chasing a ball on the field below.

The level of our intelligence could hardly be more apparent.

So obviously, there is a profound intellectual reason for our willingness to delay medical help until after the game, and here it is: We know that sports is the most important thing in all of human existence.

And here, I know, some woman is nudging some other woman. They're in a snooty coffee bar drinking expensive lattes and Norah Jones is singing in the background. The first woman is saying: Did you read this clown? Can you believ...
