Gotta love this way of naming Journal entries... laziness rules!

Anyway, as with my last entry relating to my first real big publishing, I'm only updating to inform the world of my second big feature!

While there's nothing particularly artistic about the work, aside from some of the subjects involved, it's still a massive achievement. Weider is one of the biggest names in the fitness media industry and to have such coverage extended to the Fitness Expo was great - especially given my partner-in-crime (chief writer) Mel Zimmerman said this year's was the biggest coverage ever in the Australian version of Muscle & Fitness magazine. How good's this?!

So there we go.
I just looked at my previous entries; the last time I had 'Big' and 'News' in the title it was the announcement of my car. Which I still love to death for those aren't in the know. The next milestone is 9,000km. Not bad going for what is essentially a weekend toy...

Anyway, the real news is that I've been published! Yes, that's right. Published. And I'm ecstatic about it. In truth, I've known about it for quite some time; the week before my second shoot with Ellena (back at the end of August last year) she said that we'd be essentially shooting for a feature in a new magazine. Okay then!

I had a chat with the editor of Australian Natural Bodz recently and he said there are more pics being used in the next issue as well. How good's this?!

So, ahh, yeah. And I have a few more shoots lined up over the coming weeks and months, in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, which has me very excited for the future.

For those who watch me mostly for on track action, I won't entirely be leaving cars behind, but let's just say my 'focus' has changed...

Greetings one and all... and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Okay so I know I've not exactly been active on here of late, aside from Oran Park's V8 finale, and much of that owes a lot to travelling so much over the past couple of months.

I realised the other day, in sorting out photo folders on my PC, that I've taken photos on fewer dates in 2008 than in any year since going digital. I guess I could say I've gone for quality over quantity! That's certainly the case, given my new-found fondness for portraiture.

The subjects help greatly, naturally, and there will be some further newcomers in 2009 to join my favourites from this year.

As for capturing racing, well I won't be giving that away, but I won't be 'focusing' on cars nearly as much - especially if it's for shooting with people that I'm getting published...

Anyway, 'tis all for now. I'm off to the airport - I'm heading to the Gold Coast for a couple of days.

Enjoy the festive season and I'll catch you all soon!

D

... so I thought I'd best update the old Journal - before 2009 rolls around! Where has this year gone?

As you can see over the past few weeks I've been shooting rather a lot. And I have to say, cars have taken a back seat (pardon the pun) to people. Yes, the Muscle Car Masters were great, but given that the event came a week after my shoots with Ellena and Bianca, the excitement just wasn't there. Surprising, when you consider it'd been about six months since my last trackside adventure (V8 Supercars, again at Eastern Creek)...

There could still be many more to come - I could still upload literally dozens from those shoots, but I'm not especially pleased with the response (or rather lack thereof) to them so I don't know if I'll bother; I've been attracting far more interest on Flickr with my portraiture. If you think you can convince me otherwise, speak up now, otherwise I'll only post racing images here...

'Tis all for now - gots to go!

I get to drive mine, which is always fun, but will be more focused on watching others, for it's the Muscle Car Masters at Eastern Creek. And quite excited I am about that.
Sydney deviants! Okay, so we've set this Sunday as the date, and I've had a great response from deviants. Now I'm worried about the weather...

Anybody who's been in Sydney longer than I have (i.e. most of you) have any ideas for an indoor venue should things remain ugly? I've checked the SMH website and it suggests that there's only a low chance of rain for Sunday, so we may well be okay, but it might help to have a backup plan...

On the other hand, if things don't look too bad, we'll go as originally suggested - I'll try to bring some sunshine over from Perth; it's been a really lovely day here today. I'm on a flight at 0545 in the morning so will be in Sydney from lunchtime tomorrow...

--------------------------------------------------

Sunday 8 June is the date, (a rather optimistic) 11am is the time, Town Hall steps (the usual spot) is the place. For those photographically inclined, bring your cameras and we'll go shooting around town. Hyde Park, The Rocks, Woolloomooloo (for celeb-spotting, thank you, Mr =Sun-Seeker!) and anything else you might fancy... Who's in?

Oh yeah... if any attendees want or need my mobile, just note me!

--------------------------------------------------

Couple of things:
(1) Quick update. I've been somewhat busy with travels in the last few weeks, both for 'real' work and also for shooting. Last weekend I had three separate shoots - in three different cities; model in Newcastle, concert in Sydney, hair styling in Melbourne. I'll be posting some pics - plus more featuring the lovely Ellena - once I get a chance.

(2) Calling all Sydneysiders. I've noted a few fellow deviants, but for the benefit of everyone around town, I'd like to get together over the Queen's Birthday long weekend (7/8/9 June). Haven't been able to get a definitive date as everyone seems to be available on different days, but I'm leaning towards the Sunday.

I'm thinking a photographic-related theme would be good as there are many shooters among the local deviants. Let us know if you can 'come out and play' on that day...

'Tis all for now. I'm off to Bris Vegas tonight for a week and change (yes, it's work)...

D

Obviously, we all know that Facebook is the best social site on the web (sorry, MySpace lovers) but I was very surprised to see our very own dA on the list. Admittedly I very much dislike the popularity contest that seems rampant on dA at times, but overall I happen to like this site - this community - very much.

As such, it's great to see dA recognised for being a great social networking site. Sounds a little soppy, I know, but I'm glad to be a member of this site as much for the friendships - both online and in the flesh - as I am for the opportunity to showcase art.

What I'm saying, through teary eyes (or not), is that I really appreciate my dA friends, both here and abroad. You know who you are...

Here's cheers!
D

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Update time!!
Coming to you from the Qantas Club in Melbourne...

You may recall in a recent Journal entry my suggestion that a subject other than V8 Supercars at Eastern Creek was on the horizon. If you're not, and the suspense will possibly kill you, let me know and I'll remedy the situation...

Expect the first few images over the coming days. And if you haven't noticed, then it's time to climb out from under that rock...

Yes, I've attended my first-ever devMEET. I think it goes without saying that everybody in attendance is eager for the next one. I just hope I'm in town when that day rolls around...

I've almost reached the end of what I intend on uploading from V8 Supercar action at Eastern Creek. If anybody has any specific requests for cars or drivers let me know and I'll rummage through the photos for you. Hopefully, though, you enjoyed the slightly different take on things I tried (i.e. scenes from the paddock) over that weekend.

Now that's over and done with, there may not be too many racing images popping up for a little while; the focus switches to other fields. I'm not telling just yet but there's some different stuff on the horizon - I hope you'll like when time comes for showing the world...

'Tis all for now. Behave yourselves.
Travels, travels and more travels. And now it's all over until Christmas time. And I'm tired!

I enjoyed a fantastic weekend in Melbourne - and it didn't rain! Twice I've been there now and neither time have I been drowned. I seem to be striking it lucky on the weather front (away from Sydney) as it didn't rain while I was in NZ either. Sydney, on the other hand, has been awful. Ah well...

So, yes, Melbourne. Lovely city, that, even though it is full of Victorians.

On Saturday I got to drive one of the world's best bits of blacktop - the Great Ocean Road, which for those who don't know, runs along the country's southern coast for a few hundred kays. Didn't do the whole thing but I've done enough of it to know I'll be back for the full affair one day. Simply incredible...

The final round of the GT Championship was a little bit of a fizzer, with four of the five most competitive cars either not partaking in the action at all (one Lambo), failing early (another Gallardo and 911 GT2) or suffering weekend-long problems (Aston DBRS9). The race behind the leader was quite enthralling, however, with multiple cars battling over the last two podium spots. I'll be posting photos in due course.

Oh, and one last thing. Please, please sign this petition and save Formula 1 from itself.

Greetings one and all. Season's greetings, just about...

It may appear as though I've been in hiding for the last month or so, but truth is I've been anywhere but home. Since coming back from my holidays in August I've been to the Gold and Sunshine Coasts as well as Brisbane and other parts of South East Queensland. Then there was the trip out west to Perth, and the other way to Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland (twice to the latter). And let us not forget Cairns and Townsville. If there are more, I've forgotten them...

Anyway, the business travel for the year is done and dusted. Personal travels, on the other hand, have not. I'm off to Melbourne this weekend for the final round of the Australian GT Championship. Absolutely cannot wait for that. Hopefully the notoriously dodgy Victorian weather holds out...

Not that I've explored dA's Gallery v2 as yet but I'm actually finding time for flickr now. Especially the map feature, which is so accurate I've been able to place the racing images pretty much on the part of the circuit where I took them. Cool stuff...

I'm sitting here in Air NZ's lounge waiting for the flight(s) home, downing a Beam to help me deal with the pain of this wonderful experience coming to a close.

I've had a truly wonderful time making my way from west to east and west again, meeting some great people (at the top of that list are =Captain-Planet and *TheeLit) and having some incredible experiences. All I have to look forward to in the immediate future is a 'long weekend' when I get back home (Friday to Sunday).

So, after cruising Alaska and visiting Vancouver, Los Angeles, Chicago (and a weekend at Road America), New York, Las Vegas and San Francisco, I'm back at LAX waiting to go home. And I think... what a month!

I also think it's gonna take me months to go through and upload photos here. There are around 5,500. There have been only two days on which I've not taken any snaps. How 'bout that, eh?

Been a while between posts but thought I'd update on how things are going. Very well, it is...

I have a new favourite place on earth, Alaska, and a new favourite city, Vancouver. Now I'm in LA and really like what I've seen so far. I have a tour booked for tomorrow that will allow me to experience all the sights of this huge city.

Coming up I head to Chicago on Thursday ahead of a weekend trackside - first time internationally since mid-2001 - at Road America for Champ Car and ALMS. Absolutely cannot wait for that.

New York, Vegas and San Fran follow. Then it's home again...

Thus far I've hit the shutter over 2,500 times. That'll probably double over the course of this weekend!

Anyway, anything you'd like to see more of from what I've posted so far? There are, obviously, many more from Alaska as well as Vancouver's light shows in addition to some more touristy-type stuff...

... from the Land of Oz for a little while. That's right, folks, I'm outta here. For a whole month. What am I doing? Where am I going? Who am I seeing? Read on...

I fly out tomorrow afternoon and, if it were a train, it'd be first stop Auckland, then Los Angeles, terminating at Anchorage. First port of call (pardon the pun) is Seven Seas Mariner, which will be my home for seven nights, and my transportation to Vancouver.

I'll be there 1-4 August, before heading down to LA from 5-8 August. From there it's off to Chicago for a split stay, which will be wonderful for two reasons; firstly because I'll be meeting =Captain-Planet and *TheeLit, and secondly because I'll be driving up to Elkhart Lake to catch the American Le Mans Series and Champ Car World Series.

I'll loop back to Chicago, spend some more time exploring with my 'tour guides' and then head for New York, New York from 14-16 August. Then - gasp - spend Friday and Saturday nights (17-18) in the real Vegas. An eye opener, I'm sure...

Final stop is San Francisco, where I'll spend three nights, before the long trek back home to Sydney.

So, that's the month of August (and a few July days at sea) for me. If you happen to be remotely near any of these places, by all means drop me a note. If you're not but want to stay in touch, you know how to find me...

Hello all!

Yes, I'm still around. Here and there. I've actually spent a fair bit of time in Sydney over the last few weeks but in the last few days I've been in Brisbane, on the Gold Coast, over to Auckland (yes, NZ for all of a day) and back to Sydney. Next week I'm heading north again, to Townsville. Again for a day. Keeps me off the streets so they say (and in the air)...

The news is that... I'm in the news! Well, not so much me as one of my photos. And I'm really excited about that. Okay, so it's only a local publication, but any publicity is not to be sneezed at.

In other, more global sporting news, well done to the San Antonio Spurs for capturing another NBA title. I couldn't be happier, even if most people wanted LeBron James to win. One man, however, cannot beat a team.

Something rather faster, in France, was another win for Audi at Le Mans. Not that I've seen any action, but it seems it was a little wet and wild. Good to see them pull out another victory in the face of some stiff opposition from Peugeot. Also, Aston Martin captures GT1! After coming so close for the last two years they've trumped Corvette and won it. Well done all!

That's all for now. Catch ya round...

Hello all...

I'm still alive and kicking, and quite surprisingly, functioning normally without being around dA daily. Given I do miss the interaction with many of my good buddies here, I thought I'd let you know what I've been up to.

Lots of driving, that's what! I'm now back in Sydney after a two-week 'roadtrip' across Queensland. To those who say everything's bigger in Texas, rubbish! I covered barely half the state and racked up over 2,000km (1,200miles for those who deal in old-speak). Mackay, Rockhampton, Gladstone, Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Toowoomba, Brisbane, Gold Coast. Oh, and back to Brisbane via Queensland Raceway for the Australian GT Championship. Hehehe...

And what a pleasure the driving was. Apart from the crappy roads - and I mean really shit - it was a great experience, for I was driving far and away the best renter I've ever had: an XR6 Falcon. For those not in the know, head to Ford Australia website to see what it is. I nearly cried when I had to give it back!

I'm only in town for a couple of weeks before heading out again. See now why I can't devote any time to dA like I used to?

Anyway, enough of my ramblings. What have you lot been up to?

I'm not intending for this to be a permanent thing, but I'm just getting a little jaded with how things seem to work around here, and can't afford the time to spend hours a day on here commenting on a thousand and one different things for so little response.

Sure, I'll still check in occasionally, to keep on top of the messages and such, but you probably won't see any new work in a few weeks at least.

This is by no means a reflection on my wonderful friends who have just been the best to me since I joined in February last year. It all seems so long ago now, but time's truly flown. So, until next time, whenever that might be... be good. And if you can't, don't get caught!

Hey all!

I certainly hope you're all enjoying the series of features I'm producing. Feedback so far has been really great, so be sure to look out for more over the coming weeks.

After many weeks and much deliberation, the thought finally crossed my mind that I should upload something that shows one of my images. The brochure is one promoting the use of ethanol blended fuels - so you can guess what the subject matter is!

The use of my image basically comes down to the fact I used to work for the department producing it (heavily involved in ethanol and renewable fuels). Fellow staff had seen my work and, when they actually sponsored a team as part of the '+e' campaign it made sense to feature that in the flyer. And, given I was always going to have photos of racing, they turned to me, even after I'd left. How sweet.

Anyway, have a look at the flyer and let me know what you think.

Cheers

... or maybe that should be 'away and home'. I touched down again in Sydney last night and as you've no doubt noticed, I got straight onto posting a few photos from yesterday's shooting.

Though it was a fairly quiet occasion in terms of on-track activity (only five cars from three teams) were pounding around it was still great just to be trackside again. I now can't wait until the next time, whenever - and wherever - that may be. Hopefully it'll be substantially less than the eight months it was until yesterday!

It's such a different experience at a test session compared with a race weekend; I'd reckon on barely 100 members of the public were present (as opposed to more than 50,000 over the course of a typical three-day V8 Supercar meeting at Queensland Raceway) and it's basically access-all-areas for everybody - and that means open entry to the paddock, pits and even the pit wall. Fantastic...

I'll be posting more pics as I go through them. I'm really pleased with the results; I obviously hadn't forgotten how to hold a camera. And the 'new' lens was bloody awesome.

Hope you all had a nice Easter break. I certainly did.

----------------------------------------

Guess what? I'm off to Bris Vegas in a few hours. This will make it three weekends in a row - the first time I'll have spent that many weekends 'home' since leaving town now nearly eight months ago.

I'll pretend that I'm going for Easter (Mmm... chocolate) but the real reason is that DJR -- sorry, Jim Beam Racing -- is having a test session at Queensland Raceway next Tuesday. And I'm gonna be there! And I've since found out that 888 (or Team Vodafone) will be testing as well. Happy days!

Now, most of the time, we pray for rain in South East Queensland, but I'm going against the grain on this occasion; if it rains, race teams generally won't waste a test day (they're only allowed six a year). And I'll still have taken no racing images in almost a year...

To say that I'm a little excited would be a massive understatement.

On a completely separate issue, but still relating to the world of motoring, has anyone seen this Shell ad? As little as I like the current day Ferrari, there's plenty of history, and this amazing piece of cinematography features some of it. Not to mention the cities shown!

Well, after being away all week I've touched down in Sydney again - for a short while. At most I'll be here for a fortnight, and possibly only a week. Imagine that... it's quite possible I'll spend four consecutive weekends in Bris Vegas - for the first time since leaving for Sydney way back in August last year. Bizarre...

THIS IS WONDERFUL...

Anyway, I need to announce - though I'm sure you'll notice it on browsing - I have a new ID image! And it's courtesy of the totally wonderful =munecaa. I love it - and not just because I no longer have to look at myself; it truly is a work of art in its own right.

... AND THIS IS NOT

As for photos, I'm getting rather despondent, in that I haven't really taken any this year. Only on twelve days have I even picked up the camera in 2007, and the majority of photos have been either fireworks or basketball. Only the sojourn in NZ breaks the pattern.

Nothing remotely car-related has come since the Australian International Motor Show. And that was in early November! I'm hoping to be in either Brisbane or Bathurst this weekend. If either happens to be the case I'll have a chance to rectify that horrid situation.

So what have you been up to?

Yes, that's right. The red light on F1 2007 is only an hour from going out, and then it's on for young and - well, younger, as seems to be the case up and down the grid this season.

I'm really looking forward to it, as it's been a long time since we've gone into a season not bored to tears by the Red Bastards and, more specifically, Scum.
[Yeah, so guess who's glad Michael has retired...]

Looks like it's going to be the most open and unpredictable year's racing in a long time. Yes, Ferrari's still up there, and McLaren seems to be back in the running, BMW has shown some amazing pace, Renault will be there or thereabouts...

Of course, I'm hopeful for Red Bull and our own Mark Webber. If Williams has built a reliable car for approximately the first time this millennium they'll perform half decently. It would seem as though the 'weight of the world' (its unique globe livery) has been too much for Honda, but Super Aguri is incredible!

I for one can't wait to see how the season unfolds. Sit back and enjoy the ride...

On an entirely different note, I'm gonna start some features soon. If anyone has any suggestions for these, please feel free to voice your opinion. And don't be afraid to nominate yourself either!

Oh yeah, and don't forget: there's a subscription up for grabs.
Just a reminder about the ID comp. As I said in my previous entry, I'm not feeling particularly inspired to create one, so I'm throwing it over to you, my fellow deviants. Anything you want to do, please feel free.

The only requirement is that its width is the same as the current one (otherwise it displays oddly for those with lower resolution monitor settings). If you want to use some of my current images, grab 'em from my Gallery. Otherwise note me if you want something different and I'll see if I have it.

THE BAD

Well, bad in a sense that somebody is so unwelcome in a foreign country, but quite funny at the same time. From today's 'Travel Daily' (Oz travel industry newsletter):

"THIS doesn’t happen for just any tourist.

"Protestors in Guatemala say they plan to perform a special 'cleansing ceremony' at the ancient ruins of Iximche after an upcoming Latin American tour by US president George Bush.

"One of the local leaders said the group would burn incense and place flowers and water in any areas where Mr Bush has walked 'to clean out the bad energy' and restore peace and harmony."

I'm just surprised he recognises the difference between Guatemala and guacamole...

Now you've laughed at this, head over to *Sulejman's latest poll and vote for Bush. Well, his most comedic lines, anyway...

THE UGLY

The Ugly. The Very, Very Bloody Fugly.

We're on major bullshit alert. Please go and check out the latest Journal entry from *crikey. There is action to be taken if you wish to see more photographic excellence from Aussie deviants (and tourists and professionals - and me!) in future. I need not say any more...

And aren't I a happy little boy. It's been three years since my last 'proper' upgrade, and the old dog was behaving like a bucket of shit in recent months (some of the blame lies squarely at the feet of Mr Gates) so it's a real breath of fresh air to have totally new internals. Well, motherboard, processor, graphics card, memory and hard drive is most of the thing; case and DVD drives remain, as do the old HDDs, though no longer in the case (need to get me a caddy).

One slight issue, though, is that I now don't have Photoshop. This creates somewhat of a drama for me. Mind you, all my photos are on one of the other disks, so it doesn't have too much of an effect for now. It just might be a while before I upload anything... Sorry!

Update: I'm now in Bris Vegas, about to head up to the Sunshine Coast. Trouble is, I'm falling asleep. I'm sure all the woeful driving standards one sees on highways and byways will keep me alert, though. Once I'm done with work up there it's back here for Friday night - and Game One of the NBL Grand Final. Can't wait! So you may have noticed by now I'm on a bit of a deviation offensive, and posting for the first time in a while. And the subject? My second-favourite form of sport. I went to the second Semi-Final between the Brisbane Bullets and Sydney Kings.

I was one of the few Bullets supporters in the crowd. Unsurprising, really, especially considering the media had thrown in a few stories about the rather less-than-pleasant split last season between CJ Bruton and the Kings. How sweet he must have felt to have buried his former club in the last term.

The Bullets now move on to face the Melbourne Tigers in the Finals. And the best part is, my work takes me north next week, first to the Sunshine Coast and then back to Bris Vegas, which means that - if I can score some tickets - I'll be able to go! Woo hoo!

Also, you will have noticed by now that I have a rather flash looking Journal (about time, too). For that I have the wonderful *AtraAstrum to thank, and what a wonderful thing it is.
Bet you'll never guess where I went tonight. Actually, yes you will...

*Andrew-and-Seven told me to "do tonight as well." So I did. Though I have to say, I'd have gone again no matter what anybody said, so it wasn't to spite you, bloke! And you'd not believe how close I was. Funny thing, the world of concert tickets; I bought the four for last night about an hour after tickets went on sale some two months ago. We were directly in front of the stage, but way, way back. For tonight's show, I bought my ticket (my friends returned to Bris Vegas this arvo) at about nine this morning, and ended up one row from the front on the left side of the stage. Incredible...

At some points, I was no more than about a car's length from Amy. So near and yet so far...

In any case, it's been an unbelievable weekend, and the two gigs were just superb. The difference in performance between the first tour a few years back and this one is just night and day. I say this honestly, and not just because I happen to be completely infatuated (!!), Amy sounded incredible, and the band as a whole was just amazing. They've absolutly nailed the art of performing.

So that's it. I've been to the final two shows from The Open Door tour. And a happy little boy I am...

I'll openly admit that if there's one Oz rock act I really have never taken to AC/DC, but - surprise, surprise - I think Amy did a superb job of it tonight.
Absolutely one of - if not the - best concerts I've ever witnessed, and I'm not just saying that because of who was performing. It truly knocked the first tour into the dark ages. It was that good. So good, in fact, I'm giving thought to going again tomorrow night.
We'll see...
Happy V-Day to all those 'flying solo' (i.e. singles) out there. We'll have a virtual drink together later!
It's now nearly 2200 and I'm still in Christchurch. The flight I was supposed to be on (some three hours ago) is now not departing until - get this - 0500 tomorrow. I'm in another hotel in town and will get the wake-up call at 0200. Hooray for less than four hours' sleep, followed by my first day in the office for well over a week.
Hopefully when I next report I'll actually be in Sydney...
I arrived in Christchurch earlier tonight - last port of call for me in NZ - and source of the best dining I've had on this trip. Went to a wonderful little restaurant that's actually formerly a church. Great entertainment, too.
Anyway, once I'm done here it's back to Sydney on Tuesday night. Not sure I'll be taking any more piccies before returning home but I did manage a few last night in Wellington. Froze my arse off and all...

Gots a coupla questions for you all. What are the best shows on TV 1) at the moment, 2) of all time, and 3) locally produced (if not already in your best of list)?

I'm asking because this weekend I've become completely addicted to Lost. It helps that I'm not feeling great and so the sofa's been a cosy spot.

I bought the first series box set a couple of months ago but only took the wrapping off it on Friday. In the mean time, you see, I'd bought a similar set of Boston Legal. Watched all of those first. So I now have two favourite shows.

Actually, three. Nothing, and I mean nothing, beats Top Gear...

1) Lost, Boston Legal, Top Gear
2) Top Gear (get the idea here?)
3) This is harder. I really liked White Collar Blue when it was on. Also, The Late Show was fantastic. And, from the same crew, Thank God You're Here. Absolutely riotous viewing...

Over to you!
While I have your attention, I'd like to thank all my friends on dA for, well, being a friend. I've thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this community, and that's thanks to the wonderful deviants who frequent the site. As much as I'm happy with the life change I undertook mid-year, I miss not being on here all the time. Anyway, let's look forward to 2007, and see what it brings. That said, I’m actually really glad I had the opportunity to go, because it was one helluva show. I’ve stuck a photo up in my Scraps, as the set was most impressive and is well worth a look. So worth it, in fact, it's right here...

... my longest-ever stint in Sydney. After returning from NZ last Friday night, my (scheduled) travels for the year are now over, so I now can really call myself a Sydneysider. Let's see how long I last, especially considering we're rapidly closing in on Christmas holiday season!

As for my NZ trip, well the weather was atrocious most days. But who cares? When out to sea, being treated to all the food and drink one could manage, and being entertained with concerts and stage shows after dinner, I certainly wasn't worried about the world outside of Seven Seas Mariner...

Concentrating on dA for a moment, what do people think of my branching out into other fields of photography? Seems some were a little (or a lot even!) surprised to see portraits popping up in my gallery. Do you want me to keep going with it?
Finally, something I think everybody on dA should read: `leodadominico on commenting...

Hi all!

Just a quick entry today; I'm coming to you from Mount Maunganui on the north island of New Zealand. Had a rather large group onboard this morning and lunch went for quite a while so I've just come ashore to catch up on things and have a bit of a wander around town.

I'll be back in Sydney on Friday night, so sadly this wonderful week is coming to an end. Rest assured that I've thoroughly enjoyed myself!

All the comments and deviations I've amassed over the course of my time away will be replied to - hopefully - over the weekend.

That's all for now...

Cheers

Oh yeah! Me happy. Even happier than a few nights ago, because I've fully cleared my deviantWATCH deviations. And just in time to go away for another week...

Yes, the oh-so-good news is that I have another work trip. To New Zealand, for the second time. On this occasion, however, I'll only be spending two nights on land. The other five nights? Oh, just on here. Oh how tough my job can be sometimes.

It's not all fun and games, though; there will be lots of work to do when in port, and that's every single day, in a different city each time. Tours to conduct, events to host -- but then when it's all done, head to a bar onboard and have a nice, relaxing drink...

So, there's my news. Somehow, though, ~Severexy already knew. Just quietly, I think she might be an insider. Or maybe a stalker...

So if you don't hear from me in the next week, assume that I'm having a half decent time!!

Enough joy from me; how are you doing? Hope all's good in the lead-up to holiday season...

Cheers

Oh yeah! Me happy. After months literally out of control on dA, courtesy of not having access to the 'net at my new home, I can finally say I'm on top of all my deviantWATCH deviations. Jeez, and it's only taken like a month of late nights to clear the backlog...

For those who've had to wait an eternity for me to comment, I do sincerely apologise. And, yes, I know I've skipped many thousands but I didn't exactly plan on being offline for so long.

M'kay, enough of that crap. Even bigger Woo Hoo!! news is at hand. But I'm not telling right now. Maybe tomorrow. Or next week, after the event...
It relates to work, but it's certainly not dull...

Well it's only taken two-and-a-half months (not to mention countless phone calls to Optus) but I'm online at home.

For any Oz deviants, I seriously recommend using... any ISP but Optus. They screwed me around like no company ever before has done. I'm still thinking of telling them to shove it but for now I'm just relishing being online again.

Okay, rant over. It's good to be 'back' at dA. I'm starting to catch up with my deviantWATCH but that'll take me some time - there are two months' worth of things to study - and I've been trying to cull the list all the time, but still there are over two hundred. Patience, my children...
Anyway, that's it for now. Ooh, except that I'm off to the Motor Show today. Can't wait.

Coming to you live from... Perth!

Thought I'd best let you all know that I am in fact still in the land of the living. It's been a huge couple of weeks; I've been back in Bris Vegas for a few days, on the Gold Coast for a couple, now in Perth this week before heading back to Sydney on Friday. I think I've forgotten where I live!

Tomorrow we're out and about for work so I'm looking forward to seeing the city, even if it is only while driving by. Camera out the window is probably not a good move, so don't expect too much in the way of spectacular images from here...

Speaking of images, please don't crucify me for the lack of them in recent months. What with all the travelling and being so busy with setting up in terms of furniture and so on I've not been online, save for a little while here and there. That hopefully changes next week; I'm getting myself set up so I can finally catch up on all your deviations - not to mention posting some more of my own!

Don't say I haven't warned you!

Cheers

Oh my goodness! Despite a sluggish September, courtesy of me rarely being here, I'm closing in on 5,000 pageviews. Quite incredible. I love this place, and can't wait to rejoin festivities properly once I'm online at home. Hopefully that's only a couple of weeks away now.

More to the point as far as countdowns go, we're now only a week away from the Great Race. Bathurst minus Brock, though, will be quite a surreal occasion, I'm sure.

Football's finally done and dusted (Amen to that!) and so hopefully the media will pick up that there are actually other events happening out there in this wide world of ours. Hopefully...

Back to Bathurst, and I'm tossing up whether or not to make the trek to the Mountain. Maybe we'll see how the week pans out and take it from there. Would be nice to go, if only because I've scarcely taken a photo in the last two months!

Anyway, enough for now.

Cheers all
Well this week's just taken a rather sudden turn for the worse. First, as anyone who doesn't live under a rock would be aware, Steve Irwin is no longer. Now, and personally much more saddening, is the loss of the King of the Mountain, Peter Brock.

I only found out over a dinner function here in Auckland a couple of hours ago, and I'm still in complete and utter shock. Sure, motor racing's dangerous, but you just don't expect things like this to happen to the greats. This will take the racing world - and Oz generally, after the week this has been - a long time to recover from...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Back to the previous post...

I suggested in previous Journals that I would likely be writing entries from all about the place and that definitely stands true for this one; I'm in Auckland.

Never previously been to NZ, but of what I've seen thus far I'm really impressed. The people seem really great (even if they speak a bit funny!) and the city's really nice. For whatever reason it sort of reminds me of Melbourne, not that I've spent much time there...

Here on business for a week, and return to Sydney - where I've finally 'taken delivery' of a place to stay. Got a new bed delivered on Saturday and then boxes galore make the trek from Bris Vegas on Thursday. So in other words, I return to a flat full of stuff to be unpacked. I can see myself getting as far as taking out the desktop PC and sitting down in front of that for a while. Boxes be buggered...!!

I know I've uploaded any photos in an age (haven't done a single one since dA v5 came to town) but that should change once I have the desktop up and running.

Oh dammit. Need a monitor for it first. Opinions, please: 17" or 19" LCD?

Cheers from Kiwiland
As I write, I'm sitting in a hotel room in -- of all places -- Brisbane. Just down the road from home. No, the Sydney experiment hasn't failed already; I'm here on a two-day course, and will be back down south tomorrow evening.

As for the new life, it's starting to take shape. Hopefully the residence situation will be resolved by the time I get back. If not, I'll be resigned to another Saturday spent searching the crap that's available in Sydney town. Fingers cross for me, eh?

So, until that's sorted out, I'll still only be on here periodically. Hope all's well with you all - you know I won't forget, but do miss, your continual support.

Hopefully back properly sooner rather than later!

This is it then. My last day in Brisbane. Tomorrow morning is the dawn of a new life for me - off to Sydney.

While I'm looking forward to the change of scenery, I was a little sad when walking out of my apartment last night. Not even been there three years but it is my home (and first one at that) so it was a little weird to leave...

Anyway, I might be offline for a little while now as I'm settling in down there. Might be back in a couple of days, might not be back for weeks.

Believe me when I say I miss you all already and can't wait to get back to dA. Fingers crossed it's not a long wait!

Cheers all

As I sit here and type this I have around three hours left in the week. At my current desk. With my present workmates. In this job...

Woo hoo! Now come two weeks to be spent at home or around town, sorting out things ahead of my move down south. The biggest weight has been lifted from my shoulders this morning as I found out my apartment has a person willing to assist with my mortgage (i.e. a renter), so now it's just a matter of offloading the car - which will be difficult, as you all know I love my cars - and packing up.

On more dA related news, the new toy is wonderful and I deeply look forward to testing it in 'proper' conditions - trackside. Hopefully I'll get that chance next weekend.

Update: I now have a monopod to use with my new toy. So, I get to try two new toys next weekend. Or even before the weekend, if I feel like it. Oh how wonderful it is knowing I don't have to get up on a Monday morning!

That's all for now!

Cheers

Well it could have come before Friday, it should have come before Sunday, but finally I have my new lens. And I have today off, so I might go out and about and have a bit of a play with it.

While it's disappointing that I didn't have it in time for the weekend, I'm very flattered by all the lovely comments about those V8 Supercar photos that I have posted thus far. If that's the sort of quality I can get from the standard kit lens then I really look forward to the top-line image quality of the L-series.

So, I'm off to get ready now. I'll post more from the weekend (Sunday's action this time) and then - depending on where my travels take me today - some from around Bris Vegas...

Catch y'all!
