But I wanted to use this free journal thing before it's gone.

The Monon Bell Game is a big deal at Wabash. One of the finest and oldest rivalries in college football history. I'll make no promises about winning or losing, except to say that we're going to win.

I've also elected to take that Virgil course. I fear that I'm beginning to enjoy translating Latin.

...

This is a very fun skin.
As you may know, I wrapped "Stickfield, Kansas", and since my interest in posting it has waned. This is mostly due to how I've had to submit it, by copying and pasting the various pages together and submitting one long deviation to save space. That's why I haven't updated for a very long time.
Also, I'm starting college in two weeks, and expect to have no free time.
This is my situation. What I'm going to end up doing is withdrawing from the internet. Right now, I spend roughly two hours a day on the web. This is time I may not have in college.
I'll be on when I can, but unless something unexpected happens, I won't be as active as I once was on this site. So...yeah.

The businessman sketch involves two male cast members, one who is famous. The Businessman in the sketch repeated boasts things, following them with “because I’m better than you”. This continues to build with the second cast member becoming more and more depressed. The sketch ends with the business man rising to his feet, exposing himself on national live television.
The first time I dreamed it up, this occurred on accident with myself and Alec Baldwin on stage (I’m an SNL cast member in these dreams). It was promptly stopped by Lorne and the censor.
The second time, last night, Alec insists that the sketch (which I wrote) is brilliant and wants to perform it. He himself is also a cast member for some reason. Alec convinces the camera men to follow along. They film him performing the sketch (I duck out of frame to save my job), then it turns out the local children’s choir is performing and the audience is full of kids.

Nice use of green.

[link] Pinstripes. Attitude. Suggested tension between what she's doing and his sensibilities.

[link] Pinstripes forming a theme here. She uses them well enough to even make her look tall.

2. Hawk

[link] Having to make due with Hawk's sparse gallery. I like the more masculine, more defined features of the face here. Too many have the trouble that all the characters they draw look the same. I among them.

[link] [link] And then the "Norton" series. Hawk here demonstrates an honest skill with the pen. Comedic timing that shows potential.

3. Lilyn

[link] What she excels at: mad, frantic energy. Now if only to harness that in action shots.

[link] [link] What I'd like to see more of from her.
Read that just now. Thought I'd post the joke at the end for my own benefit.

See, there were these two guys in a lunatic asylum... and one night... one night they decide they don't like living in an asylum any more. They decide they’re going to escape! So like they get up on to the roof, and there, just across the narrow gap, they see the rooftops of the town, stretching away in moon light... stretching away to freedom. Now the first guy he jumps right across with no problem. But his friend, his friend daren't make the leap. Y'see he's afraid of falling... So then the first guy has an idea. He says "Hey! I have my flash light with me. I will shine it across the gap between the buildings. You can walk across the beam and join me." But, the second guy just shakes his head. He says... he says "What do you think I am, crazy? You would turn it off when I was half way across."

As you may have seen (if you have any respect for me as a human being at all) I have updated Stickfield, Kansas for the first time in a long time. You see, recently my scanner broke, and now all I've got are my back-logged Stickfield, Kansas comics. Not that I'm complaining. I have been meaning to get on with that series for some time.
I've got to come up with some kind of schedule. Mondays and Wednesdays? Saturdays? Sundays? If I did a daily, I could keep it up (potentially) for 636 days before running aground.
Seriously. Stick figure comics are efficient like you wouldn't believe.
I've got to do more than that, obviously. Maybe one whole plot line every week? I like that.
In any case, I'm going on vacation to Disneyland this Thursday and won't be back 'til the 14th. As I have learned, cruise internet isn't worth it.
So you won't hear a thing from me for the duration.
Better get your fill now!

People will tell you it's a bad idea to talk about Politics and Religion. In the wrong company, that's good advice, but in the modern age--and age in which Freedom of Speech is so very important--the sentiment loses all value.

Let's talk about politics.

I'm a Republican, generally speaking. You can see the results of my polictical test on Facebook if you want more information. I might also be called a Moderate Conservative Libertarian, if that makes any sense to you. In philosophy, I tend to agree with the person supporting human rights. Power to the people and all that jazz. But, I don't want to change things that don't need changing. Fix it if you can before going out to buy a new one. "Drive it 'til it quits" is a phrase that comes to mind.

Nevertheless, I am also a logical man. I recognize that with the controversy around Guliani and the lack-luster campaign of Senator John McCain, my party hasn't much of a chance in 2008. Besides: we need change. The Democrats are assuming that position, so they have that going for them. No, the odds are stacked against the GOP.

Unless something else goes wrong in Congress (or nothing happens at all), the Democratic party canditate will win in '08. I hope to God it's Barack Obama.
There certainly is a lot of hype around that man, isn't there? Especially in our vast internet community. From watching just ten or so minutes of "This Week" on ABC this morning, I learned why.
To put it simply: he's different. The proctor asked him a direct question. Something along the lines of "Why do you think you can win against Hillary Clinton?" The moderator had invited him to step all over Hillary. He could have picked any number of issues to attack her with. A few minutes later Sen. John Edwards would bring up lobbyists. Clinton would subsequently dodge this by talking about other forms of campaign contributions.
But instead of talking everyone else down, Obama talked himself up. And he did so without mentioning his party as the party of anything. He did not attack the Republicans, and he did not build up the Democrats. He described the challenges facing the nation--how they go beyond any party--and then added that he thought he was the best person for the job. Simple, right?

Obama doesn't draw lines in the sand. He cleans up the beach. They say he's weak on foreign policy, but right now we only need someone who can shift the country's focus back onto itself. With a compitant cabinet and the right advisors, Mr. Obama could make up for any minor lack of experience.

I believe in Barack Obama, and hope he will be nominated. Obama is the man of change.

1. I have a record collection. Mostly, they're records I bought or that my aunt gave me. Notably, I have Steve Martin's "Let's Get Small" and Elvis's only grammy winner.

2. I have an odd tendancy to come in at the worst possible time to a conversation. Mostly when someone says something that's dirty out of context.
3. I don't hate any human being. We're all people, people.
4. I'm currently making a list of everything I own. I've used two and a half single-lined pages and I haven't even gotten off my desk. A pencil is only one item, you see.

5. I would be totally fine with a meaningless job, because I'm am very gifted at the human art of rationalization. Honestly, I would be able to convince myself that holding a door every morning meant something. Because it does.

6. Beethoven's Symphony #9, the "Ode to Joy" it the best piece of music ever composed by man. The second is his "Moonlight Sonata". But my personal favorite piece of Classical/Romantic music is Franz Liszt's "Hungarian Rhapsody #2", which has been in at least two famous cartoons.

7. Yes, I really expect you to know what I'm talking about. A person should be able to talk about Clone High, the Pillows, Steely Dan, Bugs Bunny, Dirk Gently, Barack Obama, Jerry Lee Lewis, Homer Jay Simpson, breeds of dog, farmer's tans, Superman, dilution, and immigration reform.
Everything was vintage. The soaps, the razors, the furniture, the canned goods, and the cleaning supplies were all dated 1970 or previous.

Needless to say, I was like a kid in a candy store. I found a pen/pencil set (which, upon futher inspection, had the couple's names engraved on them), a solid metal Swingline stapler, and my new pride and joy:
A c. 1948 fully-functional Underwood typewriter. Complete with traveling box and manual.

Ever since I bought a "The Doors" compilation album yesterday around noon, I have been trying to define our generation and the times we live in.
I looked at our art, our humor, our music, and the way we conduct our everyday lives.
I have concluded that our generation is concerned with simplicity.
This is my first impression. I need more information than just what I've absorbed from pop-culture. And I know it's going to be more complicated than a single word.
Yes. Our simplicity is compicated. Maybe we seek simplicity as a way to escape the compicated nature of our lives? Things that are easy to digest. Songs that are easy to understand.
A "back to nature" sort of deal, but without the nature. Hmm.
The whole thing's confused.

It's like, we don't want to think, but can't help it. There are too many issues that we have to face for us to just be kids. That's how I feel, anyway.
Widely over-whelmed by the world. Almost like I can't rise to the challenge, but know that I have to. It must be done.

Maybe I'm using the world's problems, as an excuse not to focus on my own.
Do other people do that? You certainly can get lost in them.
Perhaps all the world's ills are an extension of some massive personal problem. That fits very well.
And that would explain why the world needs problems. Without them, we could only focus on our own issues, and that would certainly drive us mad.

Can I stop there? OK, thank you.

The first ten people who reply to this journal get put up here, along with three of my favorite deviations by them.

But you have to put this in your journal as well, so no cheating!

1. ~ZacksSisterEmma
Sleepy Train, poem-- [link]
Being a fan of Johnny Cash, I'm a sucker for train poetry.

His Eyes, poem-- [link]
This poem sort of rambles a little about getting lost in someone's eyes, and it works.

God, poem-- [link]
My sister will tell you she's not emo, but for a time she really was. This poem reminds us that party people are usually broken inside.

2. =Itti
Heart Rending, drawing-- [link]
Freedom is worthless if you don't free your soul.

Dismissal, portrait-- [link]
Any artist wil tell you that hands are hard, but =Itti grew bold and made a hand the center of this piece, succeeding in my book.

Luck of the Dice, Drawings-- [link]
Beautifully simple with a profound message underneath. What more could you ask for?

3. ~Queen-of-Duct-Tape
Evil Cheeseballs' New Year, fiction-- [link]
My dislike of reading online has kept me from enjoying all of this story, but the first three paragraphs are absolute comic gold.

History Notes, snippet-- [link]
This would work very well as a play, with some adaptation.

II. Theme 98 - Puzzle, fiction-- [link]
I should have read this months ago! It's brilliant! The concept, the characters, and the conclusion are all witty and complex.

4. ~DSL-Devin
Theme 70, drawing-- [link]
This demonstrates a really cool form of drawing Devin got into recently. It exposes how very little we actually use when we see something.

Fairy, fantasy-- [link]
This, to me, harkens back to the illustrations you could find in children's novels during the 1920s. Her expression, however, is a very familiar one.

Blue Hawaii, drawing-- [link]
I like this one because the horse is actually looking somewhere. You can see its focus, and that is so often lost. Plus, Blue Hawaii reminds me of Elvis.

5. ~angelascarlett
Shuuuuuuunnnnnnnnn, icon-- [link]
Because you can't get enough of those creepy horses.

Throw the Paint, poetry-- [link]
This could serve to show how poetic everyday speech truely is. Or it could be a fun anecdote.

Valentine's Day is Dumb, icon-- [link]
This is very clever joke delivered well.

6. ~zeekkers
UYS Cover, fantasy-- [link]
This stands out because it's exciting! The lightning effects and yellow lights make it GO somewhere, which is a really cool thing to have in a still picture.

The Moonmen, Sci-fi-- <a href="http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/27794390/?qo=58&q=by%3Azeekkers&qh=...

This thing, really works.
Except for my views on education, it's spot-on.

Your view on yourself:

Other people find you very interesting, but you are really hiding your true self. Your friends love you because you are a good listener. They'll probably still love you if you learn to be yourself with them.

The type of girlfriend/boyfriend you are looking for:

You like serious, smart and determined people. You don't judge a book by its cover, so good-looking people aren't necessarily your style. This makes you an attractive person in many people's eyes.

Your readiness to commit to a relationship:

You are ready to commit as soon as you meet the right person. And you believe you will pretty much know as soon as you might that person.

The seriousness of your love:

Your have very sensible tactics when approaching the opposite sex. In many ways people find your straightforwardness attractive, so you will find yourself with plenty of dates.

Your views on education

Education is less important than the real world out there, away from the classroom. Deep inside you want to start working, earning money and living on your own.

The right job for you:

You're a practical person and will choose a secure job with a steady income. Knowing what you like to do is important. Find a regular job doing just that and you'll be set for life.

How do you view success:

You are afraid of failure and scared to have a go at the career you would like to have in case you don't succeed. Don't give up when you haven't yet even started! Be courageous.

What are you most afraid of:

You are afraid of having no one to rely on in times of trouble. You don't ever want to be unable to take care of yourself. Independence is important to you.

Who is your true self:

You are full of energy and confidence. You are unpredictable, with moods changing as quickly as an ocean. You might occasionally be calm and still, but never for long.

Hornbeam Beta of the Planet Gleck woke one morning, prepared his breakfast of gurgle chips and Slurm, and sat down to check his e-mail. Even by intergalactic standards he was undoubtably a slob. His apartment was littered with half-eaten this and partially-decayed that. It was all the same to him, and it was not as though he was expecting anybody. So when he leand back in his chair and started clicking his way through cyberspace he felt no shame in allowing his bloated stomach to show from beneath his old t-shirt. In his inbox, he found several letters about joining this website or that, two chain letters and a message from his friend Yorp about the rock concert he'd seen. Moving on to his spam folder, he instantly deleted the whole cotent of it. There was was nothing of importance, just two messages about enlarging your gregzic, three from Rabul Abder telling him about African accounts full of his money, and one little message from something called the "Discovery Channel" announcing that is would be running advertisments for a planet called Earth all spring. Whatever, man.

The first ten people who reply to this journal get put up here, along with three of my favorite deviations by them.
But you have to put this in your journal as well, so no cheating!
