We have a question for ya!

What type of lense do YOU use for portraits? We've been using our 50mm f1.8 with our 300d a lot but are always looking for better stuff.

A little info about Serenity. It was taken last summer in Mississippi. The land formation that she was standing on actually came about because people were digging for fill dirt. It created a canyon with water in the middle. It had so many lines of texture from the way they dug it out that you (or atleast I did) would really believe it was taken in the desert.

After Katrina.. I cannot even explain to you the emotions and feelings that run through you.. It's like something you just can't really ever explain, but yet something you will never forget...

I'll never forget how I felt sitting in that hallway.. Listening to the wind howling outside.. What we heard sounded like what everyone has said a tornado sounds like.. trains lots of them... It shook the house and frankly.. It shook all of us as well. We sat there, with pillows to cover our heads with, my back against our bedroom door, my mother in law sitting in a chair.. my holding on to David just in case something would have come along and ripped us apart... Then I heard it.. Crash.. It fell behind me.. I closed my eyes, held my pillow over my head and cried.. I don't think I've ever been so scared..After the noise of hearing it fall behind me we heard water pouring into our bedroom.. Whatever had fallen had broken our window, and manged to cause water to come pouring out of the middle of our cieling fan, and our vent.. It poured down upon our bed.. Just ruined everything we had worked hard on in the past few months with re-painting our room and getting it just the way we had wanted it... At that point we couldn't see what had fallen on our house.. We didn't feel safe in the hallway anymore, because we didn't know what was already up there, and it was awfuly close to the hallway, so we didn't know if there was any damnage there.. We moved into the living room.. I grabbed a couch cushion instead of the bed pillow I was using before.. I cried and cried.. wishing it to be over soon.. You could still hear the wind battering everything in sight.. When it started to die down David opened the door a crack and tried to see what fell on our roof.. All we could see was what looked to be a big branch, he closed the door and came back to the floor and sat next to me.. I was so much more comfortable in his arms and hearing his voice than I have ever before.. He was amazing throughout it all..
When the wind was basically gone David went outside and had come back in with the news.. it wasn't just a big branch.. it was the whole top of one of the pine trees that lived in the front yard.. We were the only house on the street that had a tree hit their house the way ours did... Although a few streets over, people had gotten it worse because they had more trees around their house than we did.. When you walked out of the house.. It was like a bomb had gone off... trees in the road.. lines down.. It had caused such a mess.. You wondered would things ever be back to normal...
Well, I can't believe it's already been about 5 months now.. We are moved, and all settled up here where we don't have to worry about hurricanes as much, or tornados.. I feel safe here and much more happy...
I'm thankful for all of the support and prayers that came from our friends and family! Thank you guys for writing words of incouragement in our journal while we were in TX.... It was such an uplift... and of course.. I'm thankful for David.. He was truely my rock during the storm.., and after.. I think the aftermath of the storm was almost if not worse than the storm itself.. I truely love him with all my heart!
I'm thankful that we are safely moved back up North.. and that we are happy!

I want to wish everyone a safe and very Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year..

We're gone. Happy and blessed to be alive. Our home has a lot of damage from a pine tree falling on the roof but luckily the way it fell it didnt come across the center and crush us. No power, no phone, no nothing.. no gas, no food in Mississippi.

My uncle picked us up and brought us back to his home in Texas where we will be until things go back to normal. We feel so lucky and are still in disbelief about the coast and New Orleans.

Our prayers go out to you all. CM >> ARE YOU OKAY? I dont know how often we will be back on here for the weeks to come, but we will try.

Disbelief? Absolutely.. Cant happen to us? It did.... Could it have been worst? Fuck yes! and that is why we are not complaining..

If anyone would be interested in buying a 3/bed 1/bath house in Southern Mississippi - let us know.. We're moving!

OK. So we are convienantly 60 miles from Biloxi, 90 miles from New Orleans, and are in the projected path of Katrina.

Items have been bought, loose things put in the carport, windows are taped - now we can only wait.

Might be offline for a while.. Hope it isn't as bad as they are saying. Our hearts goes out to all from New Orleans and in the effected areas..

Too many ideas, not enough faces.. What to do? What to do?!

I need models in the New Orleans, Mobile and Jackson area's to help me get some idea's out of my head and into a photograph! It seems like the supply around here is soo thin and I don't know where to look. I've exhausted all the model sites, so now I turn to you, DA, please help me find someone

I have a model shoot coming up that I am going to do some dark idea's with, so keep an eye out for my shoot with Andrea.

The schoolhouse we did a lot of shooting at is being trashed by local kids who use it for drugs and sex.. its sad, its such a beautiful place but its almost scarey going there now.

Anyone know where to buy a ballerina outfit cheap or have one that would fit a 20 year old that they would like to sell/donate? lol.. I need one. Bad. Might have to go hit up some thrift shops!

Hey you guys!
I'm so sorry that we haven't been our normal selves.. We have been so stressed around here.. We had been waiting and waiting for a few displays to come in the mail for advertiseing and they came in a few days ago and hopefully people will start calling
The reason we haven't really even been online is because I finally talked David into helping me paint our room (well he pretty much does it all) lol We went and got the paint on Sunday night because I didn't have to watch the kids on Monday and Tuesday.. Figured that it would be a good time to just get it over with.. I have been waiting months to do our room and we actually had the time and money to get it done! Well after we put on two coats of paint on the walls it just wasn't what I was looking for... It was like purple a deep dark purple and I wanted a deep red... A romantic red ya know!? Well we ended up haveing to go to Lowes and buying two more gallons of paint.. Their paint is expensive! I almost died when David tol me it was $23.00 a gallon! We usually buy from walmart cause it's only 10.00 lol call us cheap if you wish but it is CHEAPER!!! Well it's now Thursday and we've got two coats of the deep red on there it's called "Cut Ruby" I'm a lot happier now that I see its the color I've wanted all along! Although the room STILL isn't done.. We've been sleeping in the living room me on the couch and David on the Love seat for 3 days now and I haven't been sleeping well at all! On top of that the kids I've been babysitting have been sick and I think we are comming down with it... Hopefully we will feel better after being in our own bed tomorrow night and get back into our normal habits.. and haveing the weekend to sleep it sounds nice too!

We turned on the computer and went to DA and had over 250 devations I Couldn't belive it.. You all have been super busy since we've been gone.. We have a few new photos. We wern't able to get as many as we wanted but it's okay. We didn't hit the best of weather on our way up, and in Connecticut we only had about 2 good days of good weather, and on those day's were were out and about expoloreing our little hearts out and takeing photos of the things we found..
Like I said it's good to be home and we are getting back into the swing of things.. within the next few day's we are going to be putting up some of our new stuff. Hope you like it! Like I said it's not a bunch like we thought we would have but it's good enough for us !


So much for haveing good weather when we got home.. When we got home on Wed. there were some servere weather warnings around.. It's a good thing I didn't know of them to much in the car because I probaly would have freaked out.. There were about 30 - something tornado's that day.. Talk about freaky... But.. We made it home safely and thats is all we could ask for! Now today.. another tornado watch.. People down here say this is not normal weather... Usually tornado season doesn't start until the summer time.. Weird weather is everyone now a day's..

Just giving a heads up that we are leaving tonight for Florida and should be leaving for Connecticut on Monday or Tuesday of next week and arriving there on Wed. or Thursday! I am so excited!! I can't wait to see my family and friends and to take some great photos.. (if the weather is nice)! We were supposed to leave FL on Sat. BUT the weather is being a bitch.. *Sigh* Hopefully there will be some good weather in Connecticut when we get there also, but only time will tell.. Wish us luck! I'm just praying we will be safe and have a nice trip, without a ton of rain!

It's Beautiful here today, so a great day to pack up the car for the morning (we are leaving at around 3:00 or 4:00 AM) Might be a little tired Good thing David's driving! *hehe* I'm gonna be the squished one in the back with all the bags.. wish we had a bigger car, but O'well we will make it work! It's like a puzzle right!?!

Anyways, Everyone keep up the great work, and we will be back in the middle of April! ! We are going to have a ton of things to comment on when we get back! So give us time and we WILL comment!!!

This week we put in an ad in the paper for our photography. It appeared in the paper today, so we have our fingers crossed! We have gotten a few calls so far, but hopefully they will keep comming!
We also got a phone call from "InSight" magazine wanting us to take some photos of this girl for them. So thats was pretty cool. We have that shoot on Friday. Not really our type of photography, but hey.. what the hell if it's going to pay you money and get you in a magazine (even if it's a Christian one) then you gotta take it!
Also coming up, we are going for a trip to Connecticut at the end of March and we are going to be doing a few photoshoots up that way for our portfolio. We can't wait to travel through the mountains in Virgina. We are going to stop there for a day just to take photos. We have been putting any money that we do make into our bussiness and buying things we need for the trip. We are really excited. David just is going crazy because we are going to be stoping in VA, and he gets to take as many pictures as he/or I want because we just got a laptop to bring with us :woot:! I'm excited because we get to take photos and I get to see my family and friends that I haven't seen in a year and 7 months!!!!!

Needless to say in the middle of April you will probaly be seeing a lot of new entrys from us!

Okay, yeah things are good. We got our Digital Rebel a short time ago but the weather has been HORRIBLE along the gulf for the past few weeks so we haven't used it much. We do love it though and are very anxious to see exactly what it can do - if only it would stop raining!

This business were starting is really moving along too. We've got the studio all setup. The room is painted, we put a sound system in it, threw 2 umbrella's a boom for lighting, got the greenscreen, black & white muslins, backdrop support, posing table & stool, misc. children props like the victorian fans, umbrellas and butterfly wings. WHEW.. Sounds like a lot of stuff.. It took a few months to come to this point but I think we're just about ready to have people come in.

I really want to help models build portfolios too, actors, musicians, whatever.. I was trying to find a way to reach out to them and I remember a site I heard about. It was [link] .. I know a lot of great photographers on this website (like *darkmatterzone) use it to find subjects. So I paid $10 for a year of basic subscription, posted a few pics and wrote what I wanted to do.

A few hours later I got a call from someone looking to build their portfolio. Which isnt going to be paid (it will be a time for prints deal) but hey it will build OUR portfolio.. I hope more people respond.. Shes a 16 year old girl looking to go into modeling and she will be coming down in about two weeks. I have another girl who should be coming by next week..

Looks like things will start up.. Hope the word of mouth thing really picks up!

Can't wait to advertise for children and portraits. Hopefully we'll get the same response.

Thats all the recent news over here.. lets hope the rain dries up, as everythings flooding! Damn rain makes the grass grow! I dont feel like mowing again! lol

What are friends to you? What and who could you really consider friends? People come into your life and leave as quickly as they arrived, so how do you know?

People you've known your whole life can drop out of sight.. You can try so hard to maintain a connection but sometimes it just gets severed and months go by without a word..

Is there anyone special to you that comes to mind? Why?

Just been on our minds lately.. Kind of sad.. makes you wonder why..

Its been raining, not much time for photos.. We sold our camera on ebay too..

We just ordered our Digital Rebel though! D D

Can't wait to get it, then we can do photographic services and finally use our studio.. Gonna be great! I think im going to be doing more human form type photos. Lisas going to do more stills/macros & landscapes too.. It will be a lot easier due to the amount of features on the Digital Rebel compared to the kodak we had before..

We just wanted to thank everyone for their response to the new photos of Kristen & John that we submitted. Its a new area for us but are very pleased with what we've covered thus far - and look forward to doing more!

Tonight we may be doing another shoot with them and are really hoping to get the same results or better. DA has some extremely talented photographers that feed our inspiration. Not to copy - but to admire and stride toward. Its always been a resource for new and brillant ideas ever since we joined.

The diversity and beauty from all of you on on friends list is the reason why we're here. We try to comment as much as we can but if we don't get around to it for a while just know that we are seeing your art and enjoying it nonetheless. You all have been very helpful to us and we hope we give back to you in a way you've given to us.

Im sorry for my lack of community involvement lately.. The past few weeks I have been planning with my brother in law to open up a Internet Cafe/Portrait studio & Gallery here in town.. Great building, nice and big with loads of parking in the dead center of town.. To make a long story short I backed out. Why? The rent would be close to $450 alone on my part plus I would have had to run the Cafe at times and I needed time to concentrate primarely on photography. I dont regret it, I am actually setting up a studio in the house here. We've got some backdrops, the studio lights, the blue screen and heaps of digital backgrounds on CD. We went on a eBay rampage last night and spent close to $500 on props for the business.. I really hope this works. I know I need a lot of practice with portraits but I need to find people to practice on, and I know we can do it.. I need to get out and shoot more.. I need to build a portfolio.. It just seems like there is so much to do with not enough money or motivation.. Have you ever felt like that? Ah well, if your in the Mobile/New Orleans/Jackson area, come over and let us practice on you? Okay?

Hello friends!

We received a new toy to add to the arsenal today. A Olympus OM-10 we got off of eBay for $165. It came with the OM-10 body, a 35-70mm macro lense, 85-210mm zoom lense, OM-2 Winder (it lets you take sequential photos without pauses) and one hell of a flash unit. Its from the late 70s and from what I see on the net takes some pretty good pics.

Its 100% manual as well as automatic. We've got a lot of learning to do.. I mean hell we never actually had to LOAD and WIND film before.. So we gave our Minolta Maxxum SLR to our neice who is 12 and is showing a great interest in photography.. She went nuts when we gave it to her.. We know she will put it to good use!

So I guess we have to go take some test pics. I just hope I loaded the film right and we're not wasting a whole roll of film because it wasnt put in wrong, etc..
