JUSTICE LEAGUE BEYOND (aka BATMAN BEYOND UNLIMITED)

Batman Beyond Unlimited is set to debut both at the start and end of February. Wait…what…how's that? The Justice League Beyond story that Dustin Nguyen and I are working on will debut first digitally at the beginning of February. One 10 page chapter a week. And then it will be collected along with stories from Batman Beyond (and later Superman Beyond) into the print comic called "Batman Beyond Unlimited" towards the end of the month.

A good friend of mine in town runs his own gaming podcast "Who Burned My Toast" with a buddy of his, and week-to-week they cover various game releases as well as game music. It's been a fun ride, and the longest run I've ever had working on one title…20 issues, although it feels much longer with the Detective Comics and Batgirl stuff in between and before. Years spent in Gotham, and yet I feel we've barely scratched the surface. So many more dark alleys to go down, so many more demented criminals to be brought to justice. So much more black ink to buy and use to keep the local art store in business.

I'm never really the new year resolution type, but at the start of last year after having a couple short stories I wrote that were published, I wanted this year to get some more writing and a full issue story published. Each year is baby steps, as I hope to continue to grow, reach, and improve. So having the chance to script a couple Streets issues and write a Catwoman issue, helped to scratch that itch for 2010.

On Streets, Dustin and I co-scripted the issue, with the usual Dustin on pencils and sloppy inks, and me trying to pretty things up with the rest of the inks. I'm helping co-write the next two issues of Streets Of Gotham starting with issue 12.  It's based on a Paul Dini story/outline and I come in to plot and script it out. It's some of the most fun I've had being involved on this title with this group of people.

Richard is a good friend, and can boast (ha) as one of the first people I ever put pen to paper way back in the day. This was when a bunch of local artists (mostly pencilers) needed an inker, and I got the job by default. Of course I didn't know what I was doing, and proceeded to ink poor Rich with crappy pens that bled and ruined his pencils. But he was a champ and put up with me as I found my way while getting high on sharpie fumes. Ahhh many a brain cell were lost.

Seemed as busy a turnout as all the ones in the past, and maybe even more. When the doors opened at 10am, I had my head down drawing the whole time and didn't finish my line of people until 4pm. That's crazy but nice to see so many people come out for the event.

I wanted to add this info for anyone in the Central California area. I'll be appearing at HEROES COMICS in Fresno, for FCBD on Saturday, May 2.  I've done this for a few years now, and it's always a lot of fun seeing all the people that come out to it....from the die-hard fans to the families with kids that are new to comics. Joseph Lee currently works on Family Guy, juggling all sorts of responsibilities including directing. Before that, he worked for a number of years on King Of The Hill. I met him back during my brief time going to art school in LA in '99. His portfolio of work was solid, and after some nudging, he sent it off and got tested for work. And just like that, his first time out, began his career in animation. I took the separate path into comics.
