Diamondfox is a Porn Star?

So it turns out that the name Diamondfox has already been taken... and by a porn star no less (however she spells it oh so charmingly as Diamond Foxxx... nice). So if I want to do this art business thing properly, well I'm going to need to shake the not so professional (or artistic) association. I'm currently in the middle of a name overhaul... that means changing a lot, as I only just realised. I'll keep this account, but make sure its obvious I'm called Fox & Hound now. Yup, Fox & Hound Fine Art - the business name and ABN are now registered... I'm all above board and ready to make some cash (and pay some taxes)!!

Finished uni for the year, thank fuck. Not back until February, I think... I really needed a break from it all. In the meantime I'm taking commissions if anyone's interested. Send me a photo and I can make an oil painting for you!

And sure, it probably sounds like I'm bitter merely because my work isn't popular, there's some truth in that, but mostly its because I see the utter bile that some people are uploading here getting millilons of hits, and thousands of favs. Why waste my time if that's the crap I'm competing with. I get nothing from this place, no worthwhile critiques, no sales, no publicity. Again, what is the point!?

I'll give myself a week to calm the fuck down before I make a decision.

I have an exhibition coming up, a collaboration with some other students called 'Intallation Grids', its an exhibition put together by one of the tutors, who is also doing her PHD (and the exhibition is part of her thesis, I believe). We've each been given a space in the gallery and asked to work with a medium we haven't used before. I'm doing sound. I need some people to interview, so if you're local and interested, I need to meet up with you to record your voice - its really just a casual chat about what you know about your family history in Australia. I'm basing my piece around oral traditions - how we pass our family history down from generation to generation, in contrast to an academic discourse. History is only ever written by the winners, I feel there must be so much we don't know from perspectives we've never had a chance to hear.

I've come to terms with my art making process - I make a lot of different stuff, not all of it linked, and not all of it aesthetically similar... I've been so worried about not having a 'Kate' aesthetic, that I overlooked the glaringly obvious fact that I'm yet to create one. The more work I make, no matter the medium, the more likely I am to develop an aesthetic that is intrinsically my own, regardless of what I'm making. I have my fingers in so many pies, that its no wonder I haven't got my own style. I'll find it... and if I don't, who cares - conceptually my work is sound.

So I've made some new stuff, slowly gathering some momentum for 2009... I'm feeling very inspired, ready to conquer my artistic insecurities and starting making some awesome shit.

I've almost finished what has been a rather forgettable 2nd semester of my 2nd Year Fine Art Degree, as a result I'm free as of November, so if you're in the area and would like to collaborate on some conceptual (in the post-modern, concept-informs-the-aesthetic sense of the word) work with me, please let me know! I've got a few crazy ideas kicking around, but would love to work with someone over the break so I can push myself to do things outside of my comfort zone, or simply just a little bit different to what I normally do.

I plan on making my 3rd and final year one to remember, so I'll be updating throughout the year with some amazing stuff... hopefully!

I've decided to do an art piece central to what contemporary perceptions of feminism are... right now I have no idea how it will end up - hopefully the responses to my question will inform the aesthetic...

BUT in order to get to that stage I need some viewpoints - I need you, in 500 words or much less to rant your arses off - tell me exactly what you feel about feminism, whatever it means to you... I want to know if you have no idea what feminism is, if you hate feminism, if you're a proud feminist... etc. The key is to elaborate, if you can.

I am NOT going to argue with you, nor is this journal entry here for argument on the topic - if you want to fight, start your own entry... its a very contentious subject, so I understand (and totally expect) different viewpoints. All I need is an answer to the question.

No skipping off to wikipedia, I want to hear unadulterated, honest responses to the question, free from someone else's academic bias.

OH, and if you would would like to answer the question privately, feel free to note me your response. Also, I will not be publishing any names, ages, genders, or even aliases... if that makes a difference.

HALP! Ok, so I have sent a 300dpi 210mm x 297mm (A4) image through to a magazine for publication, and apparently it's too small, even though those are the specs they have, uh, specified... everything looks okay on Photoshop before and after I save it (as both a PSD and a PDF) but everytime I've sent it, the guy on the other end has told me it's a web sized image, and that the resolution is too low... which seems impossible, as I haven't changed anything from the initial 300dpi! As far as I can tell I'm saving the image properly, and the image is the correct size when I save it!

Can anyone tell me why this might be happening? What I might be overlooking?

I considered that perhaps hotmail might be compressing the image, but the guy on the other end seems to think that's impossible. Hotmail will not let me send a PDF file, it has a fit and goes all 'this page cannot be displayed' on me... instead I have to send it as a picture file as a PSD or a JPEG.

If anyone could help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it. I've never had this problem before, and I've had heaps of my files printed as posters, fliers etc.

[In life] V. confused. I need someone to tell me exactly what to do, it would make life so much easier!

[In art] Assessment over... thank god! Pretty damn happy with how my studio ended up looking, but I won't get my results for another couple of weeks!

ah well.

I had to take down the entireity of the Golden Age series from DA, because... well because I'm going to show it in my very own, very first, real, grown up Exhibition!!! That's right! Well it's not 100% definite, but it may as well be... I'll post more details as they come to me.

Well May is almost over, and so is another semester... goodbye summer, it's getting damn cold! SHIT day at work today, so I've polished off a long neck of Dutch beer and half a block of white chocolate... who needs therapy when you have booze and chocolate? *twitch*

[In life] Nothing to report... all is well. Bing and I went for a walk this evening, after sunset... that was nice, but cold.

[In art] Finally got through all the editing needed for the Golden Age series!! I'm going to print a handful off for assessment at school (next week!!) - providing my finances are in order *eep* ...prints are just retardedly expensive... art is such a luxury, I tells ya. The reactions from teachers towards the first couple of shots I've put up in my studio have been positive... here's hoping they like the concept as a whole! Regardless, I'm quite happy with the results. I'll also submit the Subjectivity series, which will pad out my studio space nicely, methinks...

also... I've been offered two SFX makeup gigs for weekend-week (is that the correct term?), Zombies with Kimothy on the Saturday and a murder scene on the sunday! Can't wait!!

Also, I got a role in a short film with (and thanks to) the beautiful and talented

imagine 'Faster Pussycat, Kill, Kill' meets 'Jaws'... or something. Apparently filming starts later in the year... I'm going to be in a mooooovie

...aaaaaaaaaand by god have I done a lot of editing recently... so glad I've been pumping it out, productivity makes me happy... in the pants... especially when I have these awesome models to publish!! ta da!

[In life] Nan's funeral was beautiful. It was a lovely way to say goodbye, and an honor to her memory.

In much happier news... CABARET NOCTURNE TONIGHT! HOORAY! PAAAAAAAARTY!

[In art] Just finished and submitted a shoot for school. I find whenever I have to submit a piece within certain parametres I'm rarely 100% happy with the results; I hate to be restricted when creating a work, so school projects are usually kind of annoying for me. This one is no exception - it's ok, and it fits the criteria and I know I'll pass the grade... which I guess is the main thing. If you're interested in philosophy on subjectivity then give the essay a read. If the images don't make any sense to you whatsoever, then again, I suggest the essay, kinda ties it all together - however your initial conceptions about the work may be different to what you read in the essay, if you don't mind that, then go for it.
**Please note that these works are to be viewed as a series.** On their own they really don't say much at all. Enjoy!

Also I finally finished the latest Cabaret Nocturne Flier (slapper)... only took me like 8 HOURS! Tips, hints and criticism are encouraged! I need to get better with this PS thingy.

I NEED A CAMERA, ALREADY

I have an analog which has given me some beauitful images over the past couple of years, but is technologically lacking... I want a digital SLR damnit!!! Or even just a good semi-pro digital would be awesome right now, nothing fancy (but nothing shit either)... it really sucks having to borrow my sister's camera (which is not an SLR but still does a great job... *jealous*), because she's not so great with the sharing. Photography is a major focus at school at the moment (I have a massive shoot lined up and I'd like to take the analog and a digital along with me), and where it's not, I'd like to be able to take photos of my non-digital work ie. installations, collages, paintings etc. *le sigh* ah wellz... I should actually start saving some money and quit complaining, ey?!
Can anyone suggest a good digital SLR, suitable for someone well versed in analog photography, but not so much digital, working mostly without artificial lighting and on a low budget? Something with a flash and maybe the potential for adding a wide angle lens in the future? kthx.

Kinda sad and lonely lately, but I'm sure it will pass.

Started a new painting to add to the 'Film Still' series, woohoo! That should well keep me busy when I have nothing to do.

Been a bit sick today and last night, most likely because I totally burned the candle at both ends Saturday at Sunday. Much drinking and dancing, all day, both days. V-Fest went off, the Jesus and Mary Chain and Air being highlights for me.

Okay, so here's the deal... before you commit to this, and get my hopes up, please consider that I need the following from my models (I has a vision, and I will need people willing to support it... please be open minded ^_^):
1. possibly around 2 hours travel time to the location and back, 1 hour setup (indefintely), and about 3 hours of shooting time (indefinitely) - so a total of around 6 hours commitment on the day of the shoot (I will provide transport, food etc)
2. the posibility* of bearing a bit of flesh - boobs, bums... most likely no front-bums - (it will be a private location, no one will see you)
3. commitment and reliability - once you're in you're in!!
4. a willingness to get down and dirty, and act the part -- here it comes, my 'vision': you're going to be an isolated group of social outcasts (retards, criminals, social drop-outs), who have lived in the Tasmanian bush since the mid Victorian era, cut off from the rest of society - I'm basing this shoot faithfully on a play called 'Golden Age' which is set in the 1930s - so you're 3rd or 4th generation ferals... if it sounds far out, that's because it is
5. an ability to look (aesthetically) cut off from society... I want this to be fairly authentic, so if you can't go without your makeup, or you have hair or a look that's a little too obviously goth or whatever (that can't be photoshopped or styled to be 'victorian-feral'

and/or don't like the idea of looking 'feral', then this probably aint for you (but I will want you in the future, I promise!)
6. trusting me with your hair, makeup and costume
7. an ability to take direction and do things that will most likely feel stupid or uncomfortable (sounds awesome, hey?!)
8. happy to help without pay (not sure if that goes without saying or not)... yup, I'm a starving art student... but i will feed you on the day... that much is certain... and if I make it big, then you'll be famous!!

If the above hasn't scared you off and you'd like to help me out then please let me know ASAP in whatever way, if you don't want to model ie. costumes, makeup, lighting, set up, transport etc... likewise if you know anyone who would be interested, under the same conditions. I'll work around availability en masse, so I'll try to make sure everyone is happy with the chosen date. I need a total of around 8 people, male and female, so please spread the word.

*NB - if you can commit to everything else, but don't want to get nakie, then that's ok, I understand some people are cool with it, others aren't. I will be supplying legally binding model release forms which I use when I'm modelling, so they're in favor of the model and photographer equally, not one or the other. Keep in mind this shoot is for my school practice, not for commercial use... but more about that if you decide you'd like to help.

School starts on the 18th of February, and I can't wait.

The past weekend was just lovely. Saturday night was spent with all my closest friends at Polly for birthday cocktails... I'm now 23, and don't feel a day over 16 (and proved such with 3 hours of drunken dancing at DV8 after Polly). Big love to MiserysMalice for helping make it such a wondeful and memorable evening.
