Club Project #2

I loved reading everyone's stories for our first project (and remember, you can always write a story for the gallery here if you want ), but now it's time to move on to our next project.

Make Your Own Souvenir

This one was brought up by =AladdinsFan (I think), and it sounded like a lot of fun, so here it is!

The Rules

a. You can make any kind of souvenir; you can even invent one if you like. The idea is to design something that you'd like to buy on your next trip.

b. Any type of art is welcome. Drawn schematics are fine - you don't have to actually make the souvenir. You can if you want, though.

c. All work must be your own or use legitimate stock found on dA. Google images are not legitimate stock. I will report anything that breaks copyright laws as art theft.

d. All entries must be new as of August 2nd, 2008.

e. You may focus your work on Disney characters if you like - there does not have to be a specific park element in your souvenir, as long as it's clear it's a souvenir or design.

f. Due Date January 31st.

g. Everyone who participates will earn one point. One person chosen randomly will be awarded an additional 5 points. You may enter as many times as you like - you will not receive multiple points for multiple entries, but you will increase your chances at the bonus 5 points.

h. Please let us know if you require a special resource and we'll see what we can do. Postcards should be cropped to 4x6 inches (a 2:3 ratio), magic towels are square, t-shirts typically have a front and back design, frames generally conform to the most popular sizes (5x7, 8x10), plushies have a stamp of the park where it was sold on one foot, snowglobes usually have an inner and outer set of figures, pressed penny designs are elliptical, buttons are round, pins are usually square-ish, posters are often 24x36 inches, etc.

A Parkhopper's Tale

What it's about:

Personal tales from the Parks - funny stories, magical moments, tales of tourist horror... whatever strikes your fancy, as long as it's true.

If you've never been but have at least talked about going or are addicted to shows about Disney Parks and have an interesting story or two about those experiences, those will be welcome as well.

How to Participate:

1. Write up your story. There's no limit on length. Please nothing too mature. For example, congratulations if you spent your honeymoon at Disney, but we'd rather not hear about what went on in the bedroom, if you catch my drift.

2. Either post your story to your gallery or scraps and note the club, or if you'd rather not post your story to your own site, send your story to the club by note and I will post it to our gallery here. If you choose the latter and would like a preview image, please e-mail your story and the file to use to disney.parkhoppers@gmail.com

3. If you happen to have a nice picture of your tale, or would like to write it up in comic form, the Tale may be given in the deviation's description rather than as a literature deviation.

4. Although there is no upper limit on length, your tale should be at least a couple of paragraphs long. No tales that sound like, "There was this one time at Disney, I got this piece of popcorn stuck up my nose lol." and that's all it is. Your tale should read as a story and be grammatically correct. NO CHATSPEAK.

5. Poetry is welcome too, as long as it tells a true tale.

6. If your story is posted to your gallery, please remember to say in your note whether you'd like to add it to the gallery here or not.

What you get for Participating:

Everyone will be given one point for participation, and at the end, we'll hold a drawing and award the winner 5 more points. (The drawing winner will earn a total of 6 points, and everyone else will earn one point, no matter how many stories they share.) For the drawing, though, your name will be entered for each story you contribute. Confused by what all this talk of points is? Read all about them here: [link] . A Disney Storybook Voting

It's time to vote for our Storybook contest!

Please read through the instructions before sending in your votes. We do things just a bit out of the ordinary here, so please read carefully.

The Rules

1. There are in essence two contests in one here, therefore please remember that you need to vote in each one.

2. View each entry in full-view. Keep in mind a few of the digital entries are animations, and you may either need to click the download link or follow a link in the description to an off-site hosting site.

3. For each category, you have a bank of points you can assign in any way you like. For example, you could give them all to one entry, or one point to each entry, or a few points apiece to several entries. How you use your points is entirely up to you.
The Point Banks are:
For the Traditional Contest: 10 points
For the Digital Contest: 14 points

4. Send the club a NOTE entitled "Votes" (or something to that effect), with your point totals. It should look like this:
Traditional:

September 17th-19th

Last entry! We are now home again

Monday we needed to take something over for Brian and he was costuming manager for Day Parade, so we went over to the Magic Kingdom to see the parade, get some pics, ride some rides we hadn't gotten to yet, and see Spectro one more time. We got over around 2pm and took pictures on Main Street and Frontierland until it was time for step-off.

I liked the parade better with the older music and the globes, but it's still an ok parade. The princess float is back in action now too. We stood very close to Splash so we could leisurely walk over to step down after the parade to meet Brian. The sun was out, so we got lots of pics.

We headed through Adventureland, took a pit stop, took some pictures, and then cut through the Main Street shops as the parade made its way down towards Tony's Town Square. We got down to the barber shop where there were surprisingly few people standing and the parade was still half out on route, so we took some more pictures. Brian finally came out around 4 and we saw him for the last time. He looks silly in his manager suit.

We ate next, blah food because the MK is notorious for not-great food. Then it was over to Tom Sawyer Island for some pics. It's really hard for mom to get around the island, so we went slowly, and it was nice there were not a lot of people around. I got some pics of the fort with nobody there.

Country Bears and Mansion were next, then Jungle Cruise as the sun was setting. We had pretty much the best guide ever for JC. He went off script quite a lot (which he could get into major trouble for, by the way), and would do really silly stuff like launch into the boat scene from Willy Wonka as we went into the Asia tunnel. That one was complete with flickering lights. Then it was one more ride on Pirates and as it was after 8 we found a cheat spot for Spectro (by waiting for a walkway spot) across from the Country Bears. Took lots of pics. I hope they came out well, since I still haven't had the time to check them out. the new face spectromen still look weird. They really need to ditch the fake noses. Brian informed me the facepaint is actually turquoise and purple, but it looks silver/white on route.

We tried to watch Wishes from Town Square, but there were just too many adults with kids on their shoulders (very dangerous and friggin' rude, people, don't ever do it), so we decided to just catch a bus back to the resort and call it an early night. Got some food at the food court and wound down. Set the alarm for 8am so we could get up and get something done for once.

The whole day passed and it didn't rain at all. Amazing. The first day we had that it didn't rain.

Tuesday - we got up at 8 and were at Epcot and eating breakfast in the Land by 10. We got fastpasses for Soarin' at noon-ish, so with the break we went over to Mission: Space and rode the green side, only to decide that the green side is wimpy and maybe we won't do that side again . If we had done it without riding orange a bunch of times first, it would be awesome. But nope, wimpy.

Next we tried Energy, but had some issues that I won't go into, and since it hasn't changed in 10 years and is now quite factually incorrect, we decided we weren't going to go on it again until they rip it out and redo it.

By then our window was open for Soarin' so we first got a fastpass for Test Track and then headed over.

It was a nightmare in there, since it was lunch time. I wish they had a second exit from Soarin' for the people who just want to leave. And a Happy Happy Un-birthday to everyone else.

Unless it is your birthday; in that case, I hope you got lots of presents and yummy cake.

So anyhoo... I'm on my big cooshy queen bed in our suite in Atlanta. That means we're no longer at Disney.

Yesterday we did indeed go back to Epcot, but took it slow and didn't get there until about 2pm. Dad wanted kaki gori so we went straight back to Japan. He didn't even wait for the boat. We walked in from the parking lot and straight back to Japan. For those unfamiliar with Ecpot, that was more than a mile walk.

I got strawberry and mom and dad both got cherry. Cherry has always seemed like a cop-out to me; it was NOT one of the original flavors, but seemed to be added later for squeamish Americans who were afraid of 'melon' and 'tangerine'.

Ranting aside, we were in time for the drummers. I got some little movies of them and mom took pics; then we walked through the gardens before heading over to Morocco.

We walked through the bazaar and then listened to the holiday storyteller and then it was over to France for the movie, but we were early so we took a stroll through the gardens there. Dad napped a bit in the movie, even though they always say No sleeping and No snoring before it starts.

I got to thinking - Canada and China have both redone their movies. What is up with France and their 25 year old film? It's looking quite dated, even if the music is awesome.

Next was Canada to see the movie. We didn't even have to wait - the doors were open when we got there. Dad hadn't seen the new version yet. It's cute now. The beginning with all the snow is hilarious.

I wanted to see the Chinese movie, which is my favorite, so we headed back around World Showcase. Dad stopped for fries and mom and I walked through the two stores. We couldn't resist going into Mexico on the way over and ride the ride. It's one of the few rides now where you get to cut in line with the wheelchair. Not many of those left now.

After the China movie we headed back to Future world because mom and I wanted to eat at Sunshine Seasons. They've got an awesome salmon dinner there. The line for Soarin' was 130 minutes!!! (When we first got to Epcot the line for Test Track was at 180 minutes!!!!!!) So that shows you what it's like to go during the holidays.

After grub we rode the Living with the Land ride, which had a five minute wait. Everyone just wanted to go on Soarin', I guess. It was then off to Imagination, where we learned that the ride is not only lame but the queue procedure for wheelchairs was designed my morons. They don't bring the chair to you at the exit, but make you walk back to the entrance to get the chair. Mom can walk fine for short distances with her cane, but there are a ton of people who have to be carried from their chairs to the rides and back. I guess the people in Imagination just say SCREW YOU to those people.

That pavilion is a nightmare. For something called Imagination it's always had it's issues, but the current version is especially bad. I can't figure out why Disney's Imagineers can't figure out how to make a good Imagination attraction. I really miss Dreamfinder, and the stuff upstairs. Maybe if they just gutted the building and filled it with lots of interactive stuff, especially art stuff, it would be better. As is it's not even worth the time to walk through the non-existent line to ride.

Hey everyone!

I suppose I owe everyone a report for the devMeet. I haven't had time until now.

Most of us met just around 1 pm outside of the MK cast member entrance. It was sunny and hot. Intros all around made us all acquainted with one another. At the time, there was me (`Arete-Eirene-Phile / =Disney-Stock), mom (`wdwparksgal), my dad, =DisneyDaleMunk, *Neosun7, =1138grl, ~errantscarecrow, =KasK, and =ScriptorCarelus and his wife. That made three guys and 7 gals. I hope the guys didn't feel outnumbered.

~errantscarecrow had presents for everyone. He's a really sweet guy.

Anyhoo, we proceeded into the park and over to Tomorrowland, where it was clear this was an extremely busy day.

Note to self: have next devMeet at Epcot

As a party of 10 including one in a wheelchair, it was a bit hard to move around. We got fastpasses for Buzz and watched the Monsters, Inc Laugh Floor show while we waited for our window to open. After Buzz =1138grl went off to get a blue fastpass for Space Mountain (awesome thing, that was), but before we went over we noticed Stitch was doing sets over next to Carousel of Progress, and no one was waiting, so we went over for a group photo. (Dad took one but he needs to e-mail it to me from his iPhone. Anyone else get a shot of the group? ). Stitch tried to push mom around in her chair; knowing Stitch that could have ended very badly.

Only 5 of us wanted to ride Space, and with that blue pass it took about 10 minutes to walk in, ride, and walk back out. Not bad for a day from Christmas hell at the MK.

We headed over to Sleepy Hollow where were were going to meet up with =xfkirsten, but overshot the castle ramp and ended up having to backtrack around Hall of Presidents. It wouldn't have been so bad but we hit the end of the Christmas parade and got caught in a small bottleneck.

=xfkirsten was waiting for us over at Sleepy Hollow, and a bunch of the group decided it was time for funnel cakes. I think ~errantscarecrow said it was the first funnel cake he'd ever had. I got one of the ice cream sandwich cookies instead. They're made with two Nestle's Tollhouse cookies with a scoop of ice cream in the middle. Evil. Pure Evil. =DisneyDaleMunk got a wonderfully gloopy fruit funnel cake. Yay for messy American snacks.

=KasK had had to run back out to her car and met back up with us after the parade. She got to see it, which is more than we can say. We stayed over in behind Sleepy Hollow for quite some time just yabbing about the parks and being cast members. 3. Deviations must be newly posted as of October 3rd, 2009. Send the club a note with the thumb or link of your entry.

4. At the moment, entries are limited to one per person. You may change your entry at any time. Multiple deviations may be entered as one cohesive whole. Unrelated deviations will be rejected as a combined entry.

5. All work must be your own. If you use stock images, they must come from the stock galleries on dA and be properly credited. Images found on Google, Photobucket, or any other image sharing site on the internet are NOT stock. Entries that include such images will be reported to dA for art theft.

6. The contest will close on November 15th. Voting will last from November 16th-November 30th. Winners will be announced shortly after.

7. We reserve the right to adjust the rules at any time. Members will be notified of any changes through this journal.

8. This contest is open to members of *disney-parkhoppers and =DisneyDreamers.

September 12th, 2007

We had to set the alarm yesterday so we could get up with enough time to meet some friends for lunch at the ESPN Club. This meant we'd be working on about 6 hours of sleep, which is probably normal for people who come for the first time (since they want to "get their money's worth"), but not for us. We like to sleep in and stay out late, you see. No rush when you've already done everything.

Anyway... we got to the South bus-stop just about 10 with the idea of catching either the Studios or the Downtown Disney bus, since you can't really get back into World Showcase and out the International Gateway until after 11, unless you happen to have reservations. The Downtown Disney bus was the first to show up, but it turned out there were around 150 people waiting to get to Typhoon Lagoon (note to self - do not go to Typhoon Lagoon by bus at 10 am). So we took the next Studios bus, which came just a few minutes later.

Strangely enough the bus let us off in the auxiliary bus lot, where the tour buses usually drop off. So we were right at the start of the walkway to the Boardwalk, which we had never taken before. (sidewalk virgins?) So we walked over. Surprisingly it was a really short walk. Luckily the first thing you get to is the quiet pool for the Villas, so we ducked into the bathrooms.

By then we were 25 minutes early for our lunch date, so we took some pictures and shopped in the store because we were melting it was so hot. I hope the pics came out well, because there wasn't a soul out on that boardwalk.

~Soundwave78 and his hunny bunny Rose showed up a few minutes late, but it wasn't a big deal because the ESPN Club doesn't actually open until 11:30. So we chatted and were the first people in line. Christopher is a serial yakker, so conversation easy . We went through the usual process - the chef comes out for mom, and I found out that I can't eat the french fires there, because they're covered in corn starch , so we both got the mahi mahi with salad (mom plain, me Caesar). Milkshakes and juice count for the dining plan drink there.

They do a daily radio show at noon from the dining room. They guys were really funny, and Christopher got to be on national radio, because they let you ask questions. He actually asked a question for me. I no wanna be on national radio. And my voice is still funny sounding.

Well, after lunch they headed off to Downtown Disney and we to the Animal Kingdom, which was having Extra Magic Hours. We got there around 2, I think, taking the bus from the Boardwalk. Then we proceeded to die from the heat. For those of you who have never been there, the AK has a heat index far above what would be elsewhere, because of the thick vegetation. So if it feels like 98 at the Magic Kingdom, it'll be more like 108 at the AK. They basically built a rain forest with rides. I had sweat dripping from the bottom of my glasses. It wasn't pretty.

We took pictures of the Oasis and finally saw the ant-eater (finally Aubrey!). And we grumbled under out breath that people skip by all the beauty and animals in the Oasis to get to the "rides", when the AK really isn't about rides so much as seeing the animals and shows. It took us quite a while to get up to the hill into the rest of the park.

First we hit the Discovery Trails around the tree hoping to see some of the animals but the animals were smart and were sleeping or hiding from the heat, so we got more pics of the tree and the roots. We then ducked into a shop to take a break from the heat and got some pics in there as well. After that it was into the tree itself for It's Tough to be a Bug, because it's dark and cold in there. I just wanted to let everyone know we're planning on having an informal chat Friday for dA's birthday. Hopefully we can talk Disney, goof off, maybe hand out some goodies, and play a few quote and trivia games. `wdwparksgal and I will pop into #DisneyDreamersChat starting around 7pm Eastern Standard (that's midnight GMT, sorry to our European members) and we'll try to stay in there for a least a few hours. (Generally things pick up later as our west coast chatters come in, at least that's how things have been in the past.) So pop in if you have time.

5. No spamming of any sort, be it icons, thumb, emotes, links, or what-not.

6. Be courteous to the others chatting. Rude comments will not be tolerated. Those proven to be consistently rude to others will be banned.

7. Lurking is ok (albeit kind of creepy), if you simply want to read what others are talking about. Do not idle if possible, unless the room is empty and you are hoping for someone to drop by. Feel free to be in both rooms at once if you like.
